What do you guys think Honda needs to change on the 2023 Metropolitan and 2023 Ruckus scooters?
Learn more about the 2022 Metropolitan at www.hondaprokevin.com/2022-honda-metropolitan-scooter-review-specs-ncw50 and check out some accessories over at www.Amazon.com/shop/HondaProKevin while helping support the blog in the process.
Last but not least, thanks again to the guys at Southern Honda Powersports for letting me come by and pick through their showroom for these videos. Check them out over at www.SouthernHonda.com
I think they should put a 12 volt power supply on them or make a wireless charging area for phones.
Drum brakes in 2022 this is nonsense there should be disc brakes plus there should be a socket for charging the phone and ABS and a laser headlight. Well, or at least LED.
Get rid of the drum brakes on both models, and fuel inject the Ruckus.
@@michaelelder5432 Thought the Ruckus had the same exact engine as the Metropolitan?
@@BluesCat1980 according to this video, the Metropolitan got fuel injection. Other videos I've seen state that the 22' Ruckus is still carbureted.
I bought one for my wife as a birthday gift and she absolutely loves it. Friends will ride it and immediately fall in love; even the Harley guys around the block think its a fun little machine. It's perfect for trips around town to pick up groceries or visit a friend. I highly recommend it as a neat addition to your collection or for someone who wants to ride on 2 wheels without the complexity of a standard motorcycle.
lol that's awesome! My experience has been the same too, once someone hops on one and takes it for a spin they've got a smile on their face. You can't ride one without having fun and that's what it's all about!
What a great gift! I'm trying to decide between Honda Super Cab 125, PCX150 and this beauty. Intended use is for potential food delivery jobs, errands around town(grocery, bank, gym). I live in a city that gets a good amount of rain- value, safety, ease of use are most important to me... would u recommend this versus the other models? Petite femals here, no desire for speed. lol
@@Maybelove88 I ride an old 150cc , it is comfortable at 45 mph speed limits so I'm not in the way of traffic, plenty of power up hills and just practical fun.
@@johnengland8619 hey thanks for your feedback! I just learned that ubereats only allow certain cc on scooters(ironically, less power). So that gives me a better idea. :)
What's the top speed???
I absolutely adore my Honda Metro. I have a 2017 that I bought in 2020 in a beautiful shade of blue. I’m a scooter aficionado and I currently have 4 including a Vespa and a Buddy 170i. My Honda at only 50cc s is still one of my favorites. It’s rock solid, very quiet, and reliable. It’s a wonderful scoot, and the styling can’t be beat!
love the shape as it look more old style scooter unlike nowadays design
Oh yeah, not many are doing the retro style anymore so it makes this one stand out even more with the others going adventure style or more sport bike'ish looks etc.
Just bought one at 3200 miles and it is a blast. Had a 2002 and it was fun to ride but this thing is more better.
This scooter went totally under my radar. And the entry price is more than reasonable. Will visit my local Honda dealer to see it in person. Good review. 👍
It's definitely one worth checking out and with their resale value, you'll be able to get your money back out of it when the time comes to move onto something else.
Thank you, appreciate the kind words!
Best metro walk thru I've seen!! THANK YOU
No no no, thank you ;)
I’m impressed by how your channel has continued to improve and grow👍
Thanks a million for taking the time to post that Paul... I've been trying my best to improve every aspect of these videos and now I look back and think "man, did I really put out that crappy video" lol! It means a lot to see that someone has noticed so I really appreciate not only the kind words but the support too...
I adore scooters. And I'm a big fan of this classic look. I do wish Honda made a scooter that LOOKED like this, but had a 125 or 150 cc engine instead. I had a Yamaha Vino 125 and a Kymco Like 150 and loved both of those. But I don't know that that'll ever happen in the USA because that would potentially steal sales of their own Super Cub. Either way, I miss having a scooter. A lot.
I'm with you 100%! They need to throw one of their many 125-160 engines in the Metropolitan as an option to the 49cc setup and they'd sell like hot cakes.
@@HondaProKevin
I have always said that! Just bump it up to 125cc. It would be even more versatile than it already is!
I know this thread is kind of old but the fact is 49 cc means that you don’t Need a motorcycle license to ride it
Thank you ; Keep the videos coming !
Naaaah, thank you for the support... I really appreciate it!
We really like this little Honda. Thanks for the video.
I want one now, can't wait .
Funny, I drove bigger cousin of this bike, also from Honda. It's called Scoopy, 110cc, 9 hp. Disc brake, electric starter. Easy to navigate in traffic, cheap to ride, my daily 60 kilometer ride to office usually spent USD 56 cents for gas. Love that scooter.
Heck yeah! The Scoopy is a cool little scooter and quite the upgrade from the Metro that a lot of people over here aren't familiar with. It really is amazing how many scooter models Honda pumps out that never make it to our shores!
@@HondaProKevin 50cc japanese bikes are rarity here though. Would be nice if we also had those.
I have 2 honda metropolitan scooters. They are both 2009 models. I gave them both to my daughter so her and her husband can both enjoy them. They live in town so they really like them. You can't beat them for durability. They are so much fun! I'm gonna get another one for myself. Geeze, I'll own 3 of them! You can't go wrong with the metropolitan. If you can ride a bicycle you can ride a metropolitan. They are that easy.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing and you hit the nail on the head, if you can ride a bicycle then you can ride a Metropolitan! It's funny how that works, once you get one then it's even easier to get another and then another lol. I've had so many customers over the years in the same situation as you, hand them down to a family member and then they end up missing it and come back for another haha!
I have a '13 ruckus, love it. Would want to put the suspension from this on it!
Good review. I had two of these and plan to get another. Fun and practical. Reliable. Wish It had a charging port and backrest option. Subscribed.
Thanks for the support... Oh yeah, they are a blast! A lot of people knock them because of how they look and think they're too slow etc so they just write them off without giving them a try. Those are the people I love to watch change their mind though after tooling around on one for a little bit lol.
100% agree on the charging port. Thankfully that's starting to make its way to more and more models so I'd say we'll see that added to the next refresh of the Metropolitan. You could always throw a trunk on one and a trunk pad as a backrest but then you've got to do the whole "gangsta lean" lol unless you're a giant and slide all the way back. I wish Honda would play around more with backrests like they did on the Big Ruckus, that was super cool being able to slide it up for yourself and then if you wanted to carry a passenger just fold it down and you're good to go.
There is a group of us guys that have them. We all take them out and people get a charge out of it. We pull up to this bar and park them side by side. Harleys in one row Mets in the next row. We have had as many as seven of us tearing up the road. Lol. Great fun.
@@jimbobaggans1564 See now that's cool. Love your thinking . We call them Mo-pagans . Like the bikers club Pagans . We saw like 30 Mo-pagans out for a ride , all the people were honking to them it was cool. Like a mini-biker gang .
Awesome really i love it so much 😍
My daughter will love this...
Lovely!
These are so cool
what a great looking design
It’s a great classic looking scooter! I’d love to get one just to ride around town.
That's where you really have fun on these, just tooling around town exploring!
Yes! And you can park them anywhere!
That is what’s drawing me to purchase one of these as soon as possible. I love the classic, European look. I’ve been debating on this style or a buddy but I think I’m gearing towards this because of this video. Very well-made.
Bought one for my daughter
..and she loves it
Heck yeah! These things are a blast and you better be careful if you hop on it, you might have more fun than you thought lol ;)
This scooter is awesome!
It's adorable!
very nice
Welcome to Thailand!!!
Today's 50 cc scooter technology is sufficient and developed to offer a pleasant ride in the city and suburban! Beautiful classic injected 3V scooter
have they come out with any performance mods for the 2022 yet? my buddy just bought one. do they have a normal CVT? can he do roller weights and possibly stuffer clutch springs and center spring?
Back up kick start- nice.
Yeah buddy! Sadly, it's one of only a couple models left with a back-up kick.
I own myself a 2017 scooter it's a wolf lender I haven't for over a year and it's great
It is lovely 😍
100%!
There don't appear to be many differences between the 2022 model and my 2016 model. I bought mine new in 2017 and I love it. I would like a higher top speed but I knew going in that I can only get so much power from 49cc. For local trips it's perfect.
Very nice.
Super look
I like this video a lot and at 75 years of age and with the honda badge i am very interested i would like to see a video on a road trip .mentioning top speeds etc, thanks
I’m thinking of getting one just as a ride to and from work because buying a used car is ridiculous right now and waiting for a new one is inane as well
Love the classic moped look of these. If you want manly, get a Harley, lol.
...or get a Grom lol!
I have a Harley Fat Boy but in town, I take the metropolitan. The metropolitan is just to easy to monuever and park. If I am going to get on the interstate it's the Harley for sure. But around town, do yourself a favor and get a met. No way I'm breaking out the Harley just to run to wal*mart, or the coffee shop.
"Manly" aka Small PP
@@Mr.Classic91 as a Harley owner, I concur. Hahaha
I've owned Harley's since 1968 & rode hard for a number of years. I'm 69 now, gave the Ultra to my 42 year old former MC cop son yesterday & will be buying a little 49cc scooter to ride for fun around town. Am going to add the trunk accessory so I can pick up a few grocery's or a 12 pack.
Manly ? I'm a known person, won't be anyone serious throwing grief with any sense to them.
Back when I was 15, I had a little Honda 50 & the fun I had riding it set the stage for a lifetime of riding. Now retired & no longer a distance A to B rider, having fun like a kid again on a little Vespa style bike sounds like the thing to do. I may even pull it up to a few "Biker" bars & strut inside. Its amazing how opinions can change when a known person rides 1 for fun & games.
Thanks
Looks cool, kind of want.
I have a Yamaha R1 but I'm not gonna lie. I would love to have this cute-looking scooter to ride around the neighborhood. I wish it has an extra 50cc though
lol same here man and I'm a sportbike guy too. Way too many people get caught up on their image and trying to look cool that they don't give these a shot. I can't tell you how many of these I've sold over the years to people that finally gave in and were shocked at how much fun they had on smaller bikes like these and then the Grom, Monkey etc. But oh yes, it could definitely stand to gain a few more cc's though so you can get out on roads with a 45 mph speed limit and not get ran over.
@@HondaProKevin @HondaPro Kevin Just an update I'd like to share with you. After watching this video some time last month, I've been on a month long quest to look for a scooter to buy, and I finally did yesterday. Drove all the way to FL from TX just to pick it up. However, I did not get the Metropolitan due to its small engine size so I got a 2010 Honda SH 150i with 153cc, which I think has more than enough oomph to get around without getting ran off the streets by cars. Even though I've only had it for a day, I already know this thing is gonna be a blast to ride and I'm sure my R1 will just sit there and collect dust for awhile, haha. You, sir, have convinced me to get a scooter 🛵, something I never even thought of buying, ever. 👏
@@HTX-pk6mu lol that is awesome man! Thanks for sharing... after 15 years of getting to hear firsthand experiences like this from customers, I don't get to anymore and I miss it so thank you! Funny story, I had a memory pop up on Facebook the other day from when the SH150i first released and I was playing around on one full tuck for a picture lol. The only thing that killed that scooter here in the states was its price tag. If my memory is correct, it was around $4,500 and people just didn't want to pay that for a 150 here in the states whereas overseas it was a massive hit. That's why the PCX was such a hit when it first released as it gave you the SH model's performance but $1,000 cheaper when new back in the day. That little thing will fly for what it is too, you did well on picking one that you'll actually be able to use on the streets and not worry about getting ran over. You got a good one bud, take care of it and it'll last for decades without having to sink money into it. Ride safe and thanks again for touching base with the update, as cheesy as it sounds, you made my day lol ;)
If honda metropolitan uses the same rim that all new honda scoopy uses, it will be cool
Problem: 2018 with 700 miles. Acceleration is normal up to about 20mph then it struggles to hit its 38mph top speed. Air filter is clean, oil changed and it was worse before I put fuel system cleaner in it. Any ideas on what to check? Could it be just bad gas? Thanks!
Huh I want this, I wish I could get one here in the south sighs .
The flat floorboard is extremely important as it allows the rider to put a couple of grocery bags between one's feet on the way home.
Exactly!
It would be nice to have a higher cc metro model, led headlights, and disc brakes
Great little scooter I bought one about 10 years ago 49cc is just inadequate I wish they would put a bigger motor
100%! They need to cram a slightly larger engine into one around the 110-150cc mark and still offer the 49cc option too as they do well in certain areas but a LOT of people need just a little more power to make it feasible to own one of these things.
all led lights and a bolt roll cage option that is sold separately
Any idea why this gorgeous little rig isn’t available for purchase in Canada? May be worth it to drive to a Maine. We do have vespas available…any input on vespas!
Better than any ev out there.
I love honda.
A nice little commute vehicle for men and woman. Also, just to run around with. You can always use more power, though.
Midnight blue would be a good color.
USB charging, cup holder and better mirrors. I like my 2017 metropolitan in baby blue
It’s so cute 🥰
lol yes indeed!
I would buy it
Kevin one last thing. Do you think the nee metro would do ok in light trails , mountain fire trails by maybe replacing the tires to a more aggressive tire?
Technically, they would be close if we're not counting tires. The Ruckus has 1.93 in. of suspension travel up front and the Metro has 2.72 in. of travel whereas the Ruckus has 2.56 in. of travel in the rear compared to the Metro at 2.36 in. of travel. So it's give and take, the Metro has more front suspension travel but the Ruckus has more in the rear. The wider wheel on the Ruckus allows for a wider tire so even if you were to change tires you're not going to be able to get something exactly like the Ruckus without more modifications. However, you could still change the tire and be better off-road than it was with the stock tires but it could be negligible depending on the terrain etc. Just keep in mind that dropping the Metro will start adding to the repair bill as you have more to crack, break etc than you do on the Ruckus if you're wanting to hop off-road.
We do that with our ruckus' a metro is doable.
I'm interested in knowing what the white vehicle is in the background. Looks like its parked beside a black BMW motorcycle. Kinda looks like an old Triumph TR4 mixed with a golf cart. Any idea what that is?
Just bring the ADV 750X or Forza 750 for our market!
I'm 16 years old and I was thinking about riding a bike to my job when I get one and saving up for this because I've always wanted a moped and because it'd be less expensive than a car. The thing is there's a hill/ highway that you have to go up to get to the restaurants/stores area of my town, will it make it up? I'm 5'9 and 132lbs
What's preventing someone from stealing stuff from the compartments?
handsome scooter HoNDA! would consider to purchase if the cc's at least doubled.
I agree, we need a slightly larger Metropolitan. They need to cram one of their 125-160 engines in there and call it a day, plus they could still sell this 49cc setup too.
I bought my metropolitans at a dealership that sold both Harley Davidson and Honda. When I bought the first metropolitan I pushed it out and put it up on the center stand. A few Harley ladies were standing there having a cigarette. They looked at the metropolitan with disdain. I said, I getting a hog tire on it tomorrow. They got a good laugh out of that.
This is by far the best review of a Honda metropolitan that I have seen to date awesome job keep up the good work I would like to see the addition of all exterior LED lighting the price of LED lighting has come down enough That it would only cost Honda a couple of extra dollars to make all the exterior lighting LEDs
Thanks a million for the kind words, I really appreciate it! I look back at this video now and cringe at how crappy it is compared to what I'm doing now lol but hey, we all have to start somewhere and improvement is key!
I agree 100%! It wouldn't take Honda that much money to update these with LED lighting, it'd help bring it into the 21st century so-to-say.
I just replaced the halogen headlight in my 2013 Honda metropolitan today to a LED headlight. I'll be testing out the light tonight.
Would love to see it coming to INDIAN market
Hopefully soon!
How good of a scooter is this for commuting? I currently walk a mile every day for work and have been looking for an E bike or moped.
Also how well does this do on speed bumps?
I just got scooter today I was riding e bike 10 miles to work. E bike is lower price and will do job and FUN but in bad weather and stuff maybe scooter idk yet. Just be prepared to air up tires and bike maintenance on ebike. They both are fun 😎
Nice comuter bike.money saving.everyday drive going to work.make it globally.i you honda
Good quality motor bike
My only hesitation in getting one of these is if it will go up fairly steep hills. I only want to use this to ride to the beach in Kona, but the hills around me are pretty decent. sea level t0 600ft in a mile and then up to 1200ft in 3 miles. I don't need to go fast, but still need to get there and back. Anyone have any data on grade % it can handle?
I don't have any exact numbers on percentage grades in comparison to how fast you'll be able to go up it etc but I've taken these up some pretty steep hills so I have a little experience there. Depending on your weight of course, you won't have a problem making it up what you mentioned but you won't be doing it at 30-35mph, it'll slow down a touch but you'll definitely get pulled up without a problem. Hopefully someone with more experience on actual grades can chime in though, wish I had a more scientific answer for you on that one bud lol ;)
im 5’9 165lbs going up steep hills were not an issue at all.
My Metro on REALLY steep hills will slow down to about 20-25 mph, but has not had a problem topping any hills.
it's cool
These things crack me the hell up (:
I have a Ruckus
What is the weight capacity? Honda doesn't seem to publish that spec.
I want one.
What is the rider weight capacity oh this sweet little ride?
I think some more power would be good. Also being capable of utilizing convention handlebars.
Definitely!
Sometimes a person gets on a higher speed limit road, for a short distance. A 125cc metropolitan would really be nice.
They are under a certain CC so you don't have to get your motorcycle license to ride them
Needing a Honda 😝
Everybody needs one ;)
The fuel-injected Metro seems more responsive and smoother than the carbureted Ruckus.
Yessir, you're spot on there!
Hi, can I install the kickstand on it??
Blue would be a nice color for male or female but not a light blue. Blackcherry would be great as well just my thought.
This is only a single seater sir?
question sir.. is there like a turn on/off button for the headlight? mine is always on even on day time.
That's correct, it's always on for "safety" ;)
On all the time to be seen better during the day.
Suuuuuuuper CUTE!!! I'm torn between this one and the Vespa Primavera. I love the 2 colors, but Honda should make a few more colors that would appeal to guys as well.
100%! I've been saying it for years, they need to make some more color options that are a bit more appealing to guys! They've gotten a little better lately and they aren't as feminine but it'd be nice to see them play with their color palette a bit more.
The Primavera is a good little scooter, no doubt about it but for the money they want for it... you could put fuel in a Metropolitan for years or get a larger cc Honda scooter and go even more places. Either way though, it's hard to pick a bad scooter out of those two options - it's all in what makes you happiest at the end of the day ;)
We have extra two tyres for safety balance
Needs more range. Everything in the western states can be far away yet down secondary roads.
Can two person (140 lb each) ride on it?
I love them. However, a bicycle can go uphill faster, they drift really bad in corners and I have actually flown one a significant distance after hitting a manhole cover traveling down said hill.
Does it feel heavy when you are sitting on it? Like it might topple over when you stop? I looked it up and it said it weighed close to 300 pounds. I wonder if an average size woman could hold it steady at a stop light. Any thoughts?
It's actually a little under 200lb. I ride a 240lb electric, and while it's upright it really doesn't pull to either side.
A couple of big high-quality leather saddle bags would make it look more manly.
I like it even it isn't a Harley.
Can you fit two people on one of these? Is there a weight limit?
Technically, you're not supposed to carry a passenger but as with most things, people do it anyways lol. The weight capacity is 278 lbs on these.
Popular in ASIA is ADV AND PCX like in philippines
Honestly, if Honda would just build the Ruckus with under seat storage, I'd be sold. The Ruckus reminds me of my old Yamaha BWS50 I had after high school, I miss it, and the Ruckus really has similar design queues I like. This just doesn't do it for me design wise...
I might see about trading or selling my 2006 Metropolitan for a new one.
2019 WHITE
408 RED
410 BLUE 1610
100 YELLOW
Good I like 49cc moped When launch INDIA
I think it's great! A good city/around town ride! If I didn't already own a scooter I'd get one! The only place scooters aren't manly is the US/UK!
I don't care if it ain't manly . My gun is manly enough 👉💨💨💨
I am in California. Do I need motorcycle license to buy ride this scooter? I have regular class c driver license. Please let me know what kind of license do I need to ride this scooter.
Is this available in the PHILIPPINES market?
Not the Metropolitan, their models are quite a bit different from ours.
How many km mileage per litre ⛽?.
How purchase this bike?
*It barely looks any different than my 'mint '08...except for the small panels behind the fairing*
( *I have the 'metal-basket' that Honda offered for 'behind the fairing' mounting that can hold damn near anything and I've never lost anything from it in almost 5-yrs. now* )
*I also have a 'wind-screen' installed that rises 14'-inches above the speedo-housing that permanently raises 'top-end' 1.5 mph and keeps 'wind-blasts' from hitting the rider in the chest...and unfortunately the new 'covered bars' won't allow any wind-screen at all, a mistake from Honda, I think*
