    Bought one of these exact models brand new a few weeks ago. It's a blast. I live in an area with a lot of 25 mph - 35 mph roads, and it does very well. I feel like I'm driving something from a Mario Kart game when I ride. It scales the two-wheel experience down.

    I love my 2017 purchased new Ruckus, classic red and white Honda scooter! I have kept some items stock and made minor cosmetic changes. Added a set of plastic bags. To do that, I purchased a larger aftermarket rear rack, spray painted it white, bags are white, had lights on bags converted to turn signals as I did not like the small turn signals on the back of the Ruckus. Under the seat option is a new wire french fry basket that fit perfectly! So I can carry lock and chain, first aid kit, etc. Bags are small but I carry 1 gallon gas can on one side, poncho and tire plug kit on the other side. Added a water bottle holder on the handle bars, and a barrel bag above the lights on that tiny rack, to carry my sunglasses, gloves, towel, etc. Also added a small black bag on handlebars on the side opposite the water bottle holder, for chapstick and a pair of fingerless gloves. I call it my "white bumblebee" Ruckus! HA HA I get 90 mpg on regular gas, full throttle in town at 35-37 mph. I will never buy an ev bicycle, scooter, or car! I have had had Honda 750s and an 1800 Goldwing, and this thing is more fun than all of them put together! BTW, I am 73 years old and living life large! LOL

    • @mikeh8228

      I forgot to mention, with that larger rack, I found a folding plastic crate on eBay, fits perfect so it is flat when I just ride but if I need to carry groceries, gear, etc., I can pop that thing up and have a carrier...I used heavy duty zip ties to put it on the rack!

    the ruckus model hasn’t changed because it’s designed with a classic style, and customization in mind all while maintaining an easy to use, minimalist base upon purchase.
    they have a perfect moped to give owners endless personalizing options.
    since it’s release, the ruckus has created a following of die hards most of which have a truly personal relationship with their bike, because it is “THEIR” bike that no one else has.

      Yeah I bought mine brand new in 2009, I'm pretty sure it was 1500 but it mighta been 1800. Anyways, I went through 4 engines and countless modifications. I built a new exhaust for every new engine. I built all my mods from scratch or outta stuff I already had. I built my own 150cc engine mount that was short enough to retain good handling and put a second swing arm and shock on for a really stable ride. Hand turned delrin motor mount bushings and a ton of other stuff. I sold and bought it back 3 times then finally sold it for good in 2017. Now I want another one. Sorry for my rambling but yer comment hit home with me.

      @@forrestcrabbe You are as bad as I am. I have taken the 49cc to the absolute limit & am considering boring to 58cc but really do not need to because I have the Ruck averaging 45mph cruise speed now & am getting right at 100/106mpg. This is my town errand ride & don't need what some refer to as a "Real" motorcycle. Also have an HD Ultra Classic & a Spyder RTS. Have owned a Harley for right around 50 years. The Ruck is pure fun, I even use it grocery shopping strapping down a 14 gallon HTC plastic box on top of the rear carrier.

    I bought my Ruck new in 2017. Have done no major mods to it but it is customized to my needs! I installed after market big rack on the back, kinda like the old Honda Trail 90. Purchased plastic saddlebags off of eBay and a friend installed them and wired the rear turn signals into the bags, along with using the stock signals, so folks can see that I am planning on turning. Mounted a water bottle carrier on the left side of the handle bars. Put rock guards on the front headlights, a Chase Harper red tubular tool bag on the small front rack, and a red Chase Harper under the seat storage bag, both easy installs. That under-seat bag is great as I have room to store a toolkit, my rain poncho, my cable and lock system, and more! Seat is red, bags are red, wrapped the Speedo with red tape, added red foam grip covers and lever covers, so the basic color scheme is red and white with some black trim. Needed more room to carry groceries so I found a folding plastic red and black crate that I zip tied to the oversized rear rack. It works great, up when I need it and only 1.5 inches thick when folded down. I also put a hook to carry a plastic bag on the white front battery cover. Though I have not altered any of the running gear, I have still made it my own style.

    I rode the hell out of mine for several years and sold it when I moved to a less practical place for this and my landlord at the time bought it and is still running it. I did modify the intake and exhaust to give it more breathing ability for hills and jetted the carb. Never went over 30 mph but whatever. And it took a lot of off-road riding too. Not my style but dirt road blasting along. Now I wish I’d kept it. Bobbed the rear fender and a small modification to a set of sportster saddlebags fit right on it.

    the ruckus also has the unique feature of having electric start, but doesn't have a starter motor! it sends power to the stator of the charging system and that spins the engine over.

      To me It look like Ruckus was made to be for under developed/developing countries but launched it in USA were it is hyped by tinkering enthusiasts. Now demand and profit is so much that they can’t sell this in developing countries at this price and this design. Add this 5-10 gallon tank and bike packing cargo room and this would be a hit for global travelers on budget. Honda launched a scooter model in Australia with large capacity tank and cargo space for delivery business. But it look like a larger clone of metropolitan and trail.

    Great vid, thanks for your effort.
    You mention it in the vid, "Honda has been making carburetors a while". I totally agree Kevin, not just the carburetors tho. Honda has been around a really long tome, engineering great products throughout the years. The Ruckus is a fine example. Honda has engineered an awesome little machine that is simple, no nonsense, easy to maintain and ride. I so enjoy my stock Ruckus and have no desire to "mod" it. Of course to each his own, not mad at those that do but for me, I certainly didn't buy it to go 70 mph! I love it's 40 mph top speed and totally utilitarian look and feel. Honda knows a thing or two about designing and building scooters and motorcycles,.The Ruckus does exactly what it was designed to do, and does it well!

    • @HondaProKevin

      Thanks for the support! Oh yeah, it's pretty crazy to think about just how long they've been in the game and how far their technology has came over the decades. It's cool to see models like the Ruckus that hit different corners of the market, you have people that don't want to modify them and bought it because of what it is in stock form. Then you have the flipside which are guys that buy them solely to modify and won't blink twice about dropping $10,000 bucks into one lol. That's what it takes for these legendary models that will always be remembered, similar to the Grom now. It's rare to see models like these that hit close to home with people from all walks of life.

    I really like scooters, but the 50cc market is never taking off here in the States. For one we are too big for 50cc, on average. Our roads are built for larger vehicles. And vehicles are getting bigger which leaves scooter riders even more disadvantaged in traffic. Yes, they are fun, but just not practical for daily use for the majority of people.

    • @pleasedontwatchthese9593
      @pleasedontwatchthese9593 2 роки тому +13

      Its true that they are not for everyone. The reason why 50cc is around is because there are many states where you can have one without getting a motorcycle endorsement on your licenses, and some states where you don't need to have a licenses at all. These are mostly used for collage towns, as a toy, at the beach or a uptown neighborhood, or something they keep on the back of their RV

    • @pleasedontwatchthese9593
      @pleasedontwatchthese9593 2 роки тому +4

      @@lukelarssen7072 A used car is best in most cases for safety, space and being inside. But with a scooter the insurance is often 1/2 to 1/4 the price and it gets 2 to 4 better gas mileage than a used car, this can be helpful to a small number of people depending on their transportation needs.

As for storage - there's a helmet lock and with a few bungees I've transported groceries, old car batteries, cans of engine oil, bundles of 10' canes, and occasionally a pillion - the thing's a workhorse! I've got to say though it's no good on hills, does 35mph max., and you wouldn't want to ride it too far.

    When I lived in town, I loved to ride my Ruckus for any short trips. The only place I didn't ride it was out by Walmart, those people are crazy. Fuel injection would be the best thing, a side stand and a new instrument cluster wouldn't hurt. South Carolina no longer considers a Ruckus as a moped, so you have to have a tag, insurance and a license. That means you might as well move up to a bigger bike, but not bigger fun.

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  3 роки тому +1

      lol you hit the nail on the head with the "but not bigger fun"! Oh yeah, the Ruckus is a blast on those short trips that you can just monkey around on and do some exploring etc if you're out away from the crazy people. I forgot about the side stand too, that's one thing I've been griping about for years. Once you get the hand of a centerstand, it's easy but nobody can deny the fact that a side stand is just easier when you're hopping on and off. Ahh, I didn't know that on SC. More and more states seem to be going that route with 49cc units.

      @@HondaProKevin South Carolina classifies the Ruckus as a motorcycle because of it's HP not the cc. Of course, no one would know unless they consult the list SC has. Law enforcement is very familiar with the Ruckus. They've seen too many teenagers flying by at 45 mph. I've heard you can put a restrictor in the carb to limit power and still register it as a moped, but that is up to the dealer. We used to have a lot of 150 cc "mopeds". Seldom see a moped now.

    Really cool! Currently riding an Ultra-Classic Harley, but I didn't always ride big, started small. These are ultra cool! There is enough "naked" space on it for one to think outside the box and create your own storage mechanism. For a scooter it is fairly athletic. If one wants something more powerful or more sporty, then purchase another bike and quit whining about how this doesn't do all of that. It is what it is. The scooter is perfect for what it is and what it does. Some more colors and a kick starter I think would be legitimate additions. Other than those, Honda just needs to keep making them just like they are.

These smaller bikes bring back the fun of riding for me to where it's not about getting the next bike because it's faster than this one etc. It's all about having fun again and that's what we move away from over the years it seems like.

Best part is that I can park it pretty much anywhere, even sidewalks and bike racks as it's that small. What would I like to see... I can only hit 40mph downhill, 36mph on a straight, and I'm in the bike line climbing any hill. So how about putting a 125CC in this and maybe call it the Ruckus Type-R?!

If they built a 150cc Big Ruckus today that kept the styling and openness of the regular Ruckus it would probably sell like hot cakes. The range is also given for a specific speed (usually 20mph) which means drive it faster and the already short range of a fully charged battery is even less. Lack of maintenance also translates into parts of the scooter that cannot be serviced by the home mechanic. I prefer to be able to do ALL repairs on my bikes and keep them going no matter what. I'll never embrace EVs no matter how well they perform because I despise the concept of batteries. EVs don't make power, the only consume it, and it has to come from somewhere else and be stored in the battery. If you are young enough perhaps you'll live long enough to see acceptable battery technology, but that is not likely in my lifetime. I'm going to get stuck in the problematic transition period where I will be disappointed in it all, plus having to deal with the fact that one of the few passions I have in my life (internal combustion engines) will no longer be a viable option. If your ruckus has been sitting for a while and your battery is completely flat it’s not gonna be very easy to kickstart it it has an electronic choke you need to put just enough power through that battery to operate the electric choke you could do that maybe by hooking up a small trickle charger for five or 10 minutes you’ve got to have that electronic choke especially if it’s been sitting for a while it’s a real bear to start

    The Ruckus is way overpriced! DRUM brakes, no fuel injection, 10" wheels in 2021??? For only $700 more you can have a Zuma that is 125cc, 12" wheels, full hydraulic disc brakes and fuel injection.

      The big differences between the Zuma and the Ruckus is the Zoomer requires a motorcycle license no matter where you are in the world pretty much except for India and China where is the Ruckus does not require a motorcycle license that is why Honda makes the Ruckus as a 50cc and not a 125CC there was talk of a super Ruckus that just use the same engine and transmission as the Grom or maybe the automatic transmission instead of manual transmission but same engine as the ground for the super Ruckus but they're not going to do it because that looks for a whole different demographic and crowd of people looking to get into motorcycling as well plus to make the Ruckus chassis stable enough they would have to bump up the tires to 12in to bring the stability back for handling the speeds of a 125cc engine
