    What great information, its always a mystery on how to improve double bass speed. I am going to start using these exercises immediately. I know a simple thanks is not enough but I know I speak for a lot of us, we do really appreciate your expertise that you share freely with the rest of us.

      I know it's late now, but I would like to thank you for each of your videos, your shorts, your great contribution to this beautiful world of drums and double bass drums. I would love to take classes with you, but I'm from Argentina and I don't know how to communicate fluently in English, and without the Google translator (like right now). Any advice, are there subtitles in the classes? .

    I gave up so much, and still mid tempo’s are my wordt nightmare. Going to the studio in 2 months and i have put myself in a really difficult situation. It feels like how more i practise how worse my footwork developes. And at the end of a workout i cant even play 120bpm anymore. Every day is different. And again i’ll start again with these detailed tips. Thanks for that! And i love the emailing of the Bdm mastery. It gives me the motivation i need weekly!!

    Surprisingly, it only took several hours to tune in the desirable spring tension.
    I does help to increase the speed drastically after we can feel the beater trajectory.
    Some might say all of this just a common sense but why they're not think of it before.
    I will always feel grateful to know this.
    Thank you. 🙏🏽🙂

    No need for maxed spring tension, which I learnt from Dennis at ACD pedals and martin has also confirmed that in this video!......I can hit easily 180-200bpm with this set up on my Darwin pedals and have my coffee too 😉

    Hey Martin, thanks for your great videos! I got a question, which is bothering me for quite some time now. When you say "quick contraction of the calf muscle" do you mean intentional and concious contractions or is that the twitching motion everybody does unintentionally when being either bored or nervous when sitting.
    When I raise my heel by contracting my calf, it automatically starts twitching and I can pull off something like 190-200 with each foot seperately for longer periods of time. I would like to know if I'm going in the right direction with this motion. Thanks!

    There's always infinite ways to combine an adjustment that go along with the leg weight and help to improve speed and accuracy overall. I see it like that clutch pedal middle point in a shifter car, once you find it, you are all set.🤘🏻🥁🤘🏻

    mnn... I'm giving this a try! would it work for speeds beyond 210? that's where I start to have trouble, as I feel the footplate and the pedal in general doesn't come back as fast as feel it needs!

    Marthyn, or anyone, I have Axis A Longboard pedals. It seems that the beater angle adjustment is very limited due to the non-round shape of the cam. I can't get the beater to sit at 45 deg...only much less or much more. Can you offer any advice? (perhaps buy different pedals :) ) Great Video!

    Is okay that I need to swivel tol keep the momentum up or would this be fighting the natural swing?

    I managed to hack this technique myself. But maybe because my legs are heavy i cant do this movement right away. I cant lift my legs in the beginning so i start by placing ball of my foot at the root of the pedal and with great effort somehow get the beater swinging which takes aprox half hour. After that when i feel a bit more comfortable i start to gradually climb my foot towards the middle of the footboard and can pull around 180-190 for about 10 minutes or so before my legs get tired

    when i do this swinging exercise without bass drum i swing it very stable and very fast without feeling any effor but once i add bass drum it easily goes out of control what could be the reason? i tried different beater angles but with bass drum added i never feel comfortable as swinging pedal only

    Hey Marthyn, I' ve also been stuck at 140 bpm with my left foot and haven't been able to improve for years now and it seems that this is because I can't seem to get that bouncing motion down with my left foot. Do you have any tips that could help me develop this bouncing motion with my left foot ? I can actually play a bit of faster and powerful double bass with both my feet combined but it's not very controlled and from my experience with my right foot I can just tell that my left foot is not up to scruff :(

    • @drumtechniqueacademy
      @drumtechniqueacademy  Рік тому +2

      yes it's really important that you can do this with each foot separately...and after that combine both feet.
      One thing that I see quite often (with our students at the Academy) is that they have a hard time getting this down in the first week because they incorporate their upper leg too much (static contraction of their hip flexor). The weight of your leg has to be on the pedal, otherwise this can be quite difficult to get down...

    Will the same exercise work with the springs removed but without removing the pedals from the bass drum? I don't have spare pedals and don't want to keep removing and replacing my pedals as this would eat into my little available time too much. Also how to control tension in the feet? For some reason my lead right foot tenses up above about 160 bpm and I find myself fighting to keep my heel down, while I don't seem to have that problem with my weaker left foot/ankle. Thanks!

    • @drumtechniqueacademy
      @drumtechniqueacademy  Рік тому

      nope - if you remove the springs you'll have to actively lift your foot after you the beater hits the bd head... different muscle group, different technique => different result

      I have your exact same issue. Been playing for 15 years, have yet to reach greater speeds than 120bpm. Been working pretty heavy on ankle stuff for about 5 months and still have zero control of my ankle. It's just a large nervous twitch.
