I followed the instructions with same tools etc and can confirm this works and is easy to do. Only thing with mine I switched ignition on and off 4 times to prime the fuel system before starting the engine. I don't know if this works on the Mondeo but that's how I have done it in the past. Anyway, the car started first time and continued running with no problems. Thanks for the video
Switching the ignition on only works if the car has an electric pump in the fuel tank. Some models of Mondeo do, mk3 and mk5 do I think, but the mk4 doesn't.
Great tip, thanks. I used a 90 degree shrader valve extension, the type used on motorbikes, and a brake bleeder that is powered from an air line that draws fluid into a plastic bottle. This worked a treat.
It saved me. I recently changed the fuel filter, but the bleeding was not a success. On this valve (what the guy shows) was an instant succes and the car started nicely.
You can also do it by putting a hand vacuum pump inline on the return to the tank ( a quick disconnect in the engine bay) cheaper than buying an extraction pump but not as quick, fill the filter housing with clean diesel before you screw it back up and it will reduce the amount of air you have to draw through
Brilliant video. Straight to the point and very clear. You even had someone in the background using a grinder lol. Seriously though, one of the better instructional videos out there 👍
great idea with the valve extension! Just changed my Diesel filter und primed the system using a small hand pump connected to the extension. Mine startet "first time"! Thank you!!
Great vid mate good tip on valve extension stupid place for diesel filter those extractor pumps are brilliant i have 3 of them would be lost without them as specially on the new vw's with plastic sumps
Hi great video. I struggle to bleed the same car..... Connection to the schreader valbe must be tight or just to open valve to suck fuel. I discover if the valve is tight fit handheld pump canot suck out fuel
Cool videos they are all the better for leaving in bits where jobs don't go perfect. I have this car and need to change the sender unit in the tank. As tank is nearly full need to empty. On my old 406 I could disconnect the pipe at engine and pump must have been at back. Does the Mondeo pull fuel from engine rather than push from tank. ?
you had me going out to check my car. No valve on the later cars. My 2012 doesn't have one, you have to put a pump on the return line (I did a vid on that). That key on and off procedure is dumb, there's no low pressure pump so it doesn't work. Good work mate
Badgertronix thanks mate I know on some of them the little about is hiding but I also know depending on where the car was manufactured there in different places or not even there in some cases
brilliant video 😎 what if I've already started it and it's run out of fuel 😱 when you said it's never done that before, that's what I said the third time my dog chased neighbors cat🤣
HA HA mate I did the exact same thing when I did mine it started first time all full of myself then it died, great vid when I did mine I used a vacuum pump but I used the fuel return on the other side of the engine I didn’t know about the shrader valve I will definitely use that next time
ha ha your face was a picture mate when it cut out. But well done in the 2nd attempt lol.. I am about to attempt fuel filter change on my 2013 1.7 diesel kia sportage, any tips on bleeding this mate ? Cheers
another great video, nice to see you using poor mans tools lol (rolson ) haha I have had a set of those spanners for years and they are still going strong, no need for overpriced snapon
Thanks, I’ve taken your advice and it worked perfectly on my 2008 Mondeo last time I serviced it. Great solution. Could this method also be used to syphon all the diesel out of the tank as my Mondeo was T-boned this week and I have about 60 litres of diesel I need to remove before it goes off to salvage. I don’t want to drill a hole in the tank causing mess & spills. Cheers
The all new 2020 Ford Mondeo now with sticker where the bonnet release lever was, Sticker reads "No user Serviceable Parts Inside" please see your main dealer.
Hi All, i have searched the forums and cant seem to find anything similar to the issue I'm having although I'm sure its very common. the interior lights in my Mondeo don't seam to come on when the car is unlocked or the doors are opened, the button for turning all the lights on and the button for the open door function seam to work but when you turn on the reading lights they work front and back. i was wondering is this a fuse or is it a case of needing a new light module in the front. any help would be great thanks.
Funny! I just bought a 1.8tdci 2008 mk4 mondeo, my fuel filter is absolutley black! compared to that al least. On the 1.8 my fuel filter is located under the bonnet, and I dont have schrader valve but ive got a little plastic style valve on the top of it :s
Grumble I have a love hate relationship with diesels, love the way they drive hate glow plugs that get stuck and these damn filter peculiarities my vag product needs you to run the transfer pump when you change the fuel filter, which when done makes it spot on, if you don’t I’ve found its pot luck with topping off and just putting back together when you then run the risk of ruining the high pressure pump with no lubricant from the diesel 😤 bleeding ridiculous - get it 🤣
Hi mate I've been having issues with mk7 transit 2.4. I've had fuel filter changed but having starting problems.ive noticed the priming button doesn't really return out while pumping. Could this be a issue? Possibly need to change fuel filter housing ?
my mechanic did this and it still didnt start, he then did something with the injectors and fuel poured out, but it still didnt start, he then had to use a can of easy start with my help to get it started. a day later i can smell fuel through the air vents and its leaking on ground. Anyone have any ideas on what the issue is?
One thing that always puzzles me is why don't the Manufacturers Employ a Mechanic who isn't scared of getting his hands dirty to advise them on how to build cars etc that can be fixed easy instead of leaving it to a stupid design cad engineer who only ever pushes buttons and clicks a mouse....they do put things if ferkin stupid stupid places...whoever thought of putting a pump onto the back of an Alternator and a starter motor righ up the backside of an engine Astra Diesels wants shooting LORL...
you're 6 months too late with this video - my local F1 Auto Centre took 1.5 days to sort out mine, they couldn't bleed the fucker for love nor money! :(
I followed the instructions with same tools etc and can confirm this works and is easy to do. Did this today with my old man's mondeo worked a treat
Sorted glad it helped you out mate
Great vid mate good tip on valve extension stupid place for diesel filter those extractor pumps are brilliant i have 3 of them would be lost without them as specially on the new vw's with plastic sumps
VWDiagnostics 60 oh yes them beautiful plastic sumps German engineering lol
Brilliant. Just superb. Straight to point, funny, just great.

Excellent demonstration and VERY useful.
thx mate
brilliant video 😎
what if I've already started it and it's run out of fuel 😱
when you said
it's never done that before,
that's what I said the third time my dog chased neighbors cat🤣
That was a clean looking filter! Better early than late.
this guy doesn't like everybody should does it like mean every 5000 miles change everything the only way to do it in my opinion
Cheers bro, your a champion this has helped me no end !
strake750 glad to hear it mate it truly means a lot that's why I do these videos
HA HA mate I did the exact same thing when I did mine it started first time all full of myself then it died, great vid when I did mine I used a vacuum pump but I used the fuel return on the other side of the engine I didn’t know about the shrader valve I will definitely use that next time
Brian 22640 if you have one on your engine it will save you a lot of time even if you have to do it twice lol
59 plate 2.0ltr diesel don't they all have them i have not looked
Brian 22640 the newer ones I don't believe they do some are hidden and difficult to find it all depends on where they were manufactured
I will have to have a look and get my hands dirty cheers
ha ha your face was a picture mate when it cut out. But well done in the 2nd attempt lol.. I am about to attempt fuel filter change on my 2013 1.7 diesel kia sportage, any tips on bleeding this mate ? Cheers
best explained and filmed on youtube tks
daniel o donnell thanks mate
lol, how did the car know it was being filmed. classic!
Thanks for the info!
So..i could use a bike pump valve? I just need to fing summit to pump it with!
does this work on 2lt ecoboost mondo 2010
I’ve got a Ford Smax 2008 can the same procedure be done with the bleed valve? different being filter at the front
*thumbs up*
*engine cuts out*
Fucking classic mate. Thanks for not editing it out!
BigGoucho I like to be honest in my videos and not edit out the mistakes thanks for watching mate
Thank you. You saved my nerves.
Hi is the bleeding a fuel.line done the same on a ford fiesta 1.4 diesel ? Thanks
another great video, nice to see you using poor mans tools lol (rolson ) haha I have had a set of those spanners for years and they are still going strong, no need for overpriced snapon
Irwin Mcevoy I have to say then spanners have served me well
think starting the car before you took the extension off might be a good idea,
Murphy’s law 😂 great idea with the extender 👍
thanks mate

Hi mate there's loads of different ways of doing it you can put an inspection camera down disconnect one of the pipes and take a sample of diesel
bodgit and leggit garage Thank you. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your videos. 👍🏻
Same on the Vauxhll Astra J and insignia shite design/idea. Can't even pre fill when like this either!😤
HaveAgo Harry don't you just love car designers
You can pre fill the housing before you put it back and it will help a little with the bleeding process
The all new 2020 Ford Mondeo now with sticker where the bonnet release lever was, Sticker reads "No user Serviceable Parts Inside" please see your main dealer.
ZanderKaneUK that's going to be fun sounds like a challenge to me lol

Like the spring inside doesn't push out the button rite out.
HAHA Bloody Diesels!! Good Idea with the valve extension.
One Auto, lol thanks mate it certainly save me a lot of time using it
Those extraction pumps are the best you can buy
Boom
Great video Leon
Paul Mayou thanks mate

Good lad
thanks mate
The new transit fuel filters are a tight bitch to do they stress me out plastic shit
Michael Coode but all they have for them makes it a lot easier but yes they are stupid
haha, it's always a bloody pain this job
you're 6 months too late with this video - my local F1 Auto Centre took 1.5 days to sort out mine, they couldn't bleed the fucker for love nor money! :(
wow
wot a stupid place to put that filler. rite above a cross member. and wots wrong with a car being built with a primer bulb bad design
Simon Rawle couldn't agree with you more mate
Unfortunately, that's how pretty much all modern diesels are designed these days.
