Just did this on a 2016 ford escape. Very simple detailed instructions. I had six 10mm bolts instead of the 4 you reported. Very simple need t20 nutdriver, 10mm nutdriver with extension, trim clip plastic tool, phillips screwdriver. Replaced with a $40 ebay camera works like new. Took me 30 minutes and I really took my time.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I just used it to install a new backup camera in my 2014 Escape. One additional thing I did was use Diolectric grease on the tiny pins in the connector. I noticed on the old camera, those pins were ever so slightly corroded. Camera works every time I hit "reverse" now. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video. The camera on my wife’s 2015 Escape had been working intermittently since we bought the car about a year ago. We would get a black screen, and the “camera not available, contact your dealer” message. The last month or so it hasn’t worked at all. Was able to replace the camera easily from these instructions. Working great so far.
A year since you posted this and it's still helping people. I just replaced the camera in my daughter's 2015 Escape and it was just as you described. Based on a couple of comments, I tried removing the black frame of the camera, but I was afraid if I kept trying I'd damage it or the surrounding car paint. I decided to do it the "hard" way. Except for a quick trip to buy a 10mm deep socket (yeah we all haven 'em someplace) and watching key parts of your vid a couple times, it took maybe an hour or so. My daughter's Ford dealer told her it would be $600-$700 and a local car stereo installation shop said about the same. price. Thank you!
Thank you so much! With the right tools and the help of this video it took us less than 30 minutes to remove and replace the camera. What the dealer wanted to do the job was ridiculous. Ended up costing less than 1/7th of what they wanted. THANK YOU again for sharing ❤
thanks!! I hang out on the Ford Escape forum. Seem to be a consensus about the camera issue being the camera itself.!! So hopefully with your video ebay I can fix our chariot when it comes to backing up!
Scan the car and see if you have any dtc's for something called Image processing module A or B (IMPA or IMPB). If you see codes for one of the 2, or both, its probably the camera. If not, its probably the touch screen. FCIM (front controls interface module). If you end up replacing the camera, it needs to be calibrated with a scan tool. If you're not sure, put the car in reverse and turn the steering wheel back in forth while looking at the screen. If the 2 lines on the screen bend when doing this, its calibrated. If the lines stay straight, its not.
The black housing that holds the camera will pop off from the outside. Just pry it up with a flat head. You can swap the camera out in less than 2 minutes.
Worked perfectly on my 2014. Ironically I had the same screw loose on the handle 😂 someone screwed up and one of the nuts on that rear flange was on the plastic guide instead of the bolt but everything else went as planned 👍👍👍
Remove license plate. Pop out plastic plate holding camera. Use then screw driver or thin hard plastic to push in two tabs on left side of plate. This take 30 seconds including removing plate. Much easier
no, but its so easy you don't need a video. Literally remove the license plate, take a small screw driver and pop out the plastic plate that holds the camera. Its not complicated or difficult.@@hilo5831
I just replaced mine, out here in Taiwan. The plastic plate fitting is tight, but I took a chance and figured I may snap the clips. I used a flat bladed screwdriver to prise up the plate, but, yes, the clips snapped pretty easily. Having removed and replaced the camera, I looked at what was there to work with and I came up with a simple and effective fix: ua-cam.com/video/viI7Rvvf_74/v-deo.html

Turns out we only needed the camera. Bought just the camera on ebay for $45. The dealer originally quoted us nearly $700 to do the job which probably included that harness I mentioned. In total, I easily did it in less than 30 minutes. Thanks so much for posting this @OneTrickTech !
Great video! My mom's camera is doing the black screen thing. Are the oem equivalent parts ok to use or would you recommend the 3 times as expensive oem dealer part?
Im not sure, probably called a molding for the license plate light/ rear camera. To get the exact name, you would have to call the Ford dealer so they can identify it for you

Thank you! Great video. Replaced my camera easily and solved the problem in my 2014 Escape.
Thank you!!!!! Only took me about 30 min to replace the camera on my 2013 Escape. Save me a lot of money!
Thanks!
Thank you for the great instructions giving me the confidence to successfully do this replacement myself.
Well done. I would definitely test that camera before going to all the work of putting all that back together again.
Thank you so so much. Your advice worked like a charm. You are the man!

I don't think it's designed to do that.
@@dmoro6 It's probably not, but it's held in place with 4 push tabs just under its lip. Pops right off.
@@dmoro6 It is designed to do exactly that

Is there a video on this just want to make sure I’m doing it right
You just saved me a lot of time. Thank you so much! Nice video.
Great video, I ordered a camera from Amazon and will give it a try on replacement👍👍👍

nice video. Can you post a link of what type of camera was used in this video.?

Thanks for showing us !!!
Going to have to try. 2013 Ford Escape Titanium. 134k miles. Camera working intermittently.
Top notch video. Thank you. A lot of eBay/amazon cameras out there. Which oem brand did you use?
I used an after market off of rockauto.com, the oem one from Ford is around 700$.
@@OneTrickTech do you recall which one from rock auto you selected? And how much? Thanks.
I don't remember but just avoid the dorman ones
I have 2013 Ford Escape SE with 8 inch Screen . It is SYNC 2. Can I able to connect back up camera to the existing screen 8 inch (OEM)
Thanks for the video! Our dealer tells us we also need the pigtail harness for the camera due to corrosion. Do you know what part# that would be?
Don't know the part #. They might just sell you the connector for it from their universal kit
@@OneTrickTech thanks for getting back to me

Great video .
I am one of your followers from Saudi Arabia.
Is it possible to know the wire extensions from the beginning to the camera?
you will need a wiring diagram for that.
@@OneTrickTech Thanks for the answer . If you can help me to get it or how to get it
you can search "ford escape wiring diagrams" on google but you will have to buy it. Its hard to find them for free.
Nice job
Great video! My mom's camera is doing the black screen thing. Are the oem equivalent parts ok to use or would you recommend the 3 times as expensive oem dealer part?
OEM equivalent is good. That's the one I used in the video. Ford wanted 700$ for the OEM camera.
@OllieKramer - The one I replaced in our 2014 was made in China, by $50.00 one off of eBay or Amazon.
Is there any way to adjust the camera angle. Mine is looking to much down i see reg plate . Was not like this before
It needs to be calibrated with a scan tool.
Where did you find a replacement camera? Best price?
rockauto.com
All i did was bend back some on the right side of plastic around the camera and pulled out camera. On the outside of car. That easy
My camera is fine, but the housing piece the camera sits in is broken. Whats the name of that rectangular piece that you fit the camera into?
Im not sure, probably called a molding for the license plate light/ rear camera. To get the exact name, you would have to call the Ford dealer so they can identify it for you
My 2013 doesn't have one, is the wiring still in the door tho?
are you trying to install a aftermarket one?
I’m just going to trade it in I’m almost done with the payments. I want a Toyota grand highlander hybrid. 😂
can someone provide me a link on where to buy the camera?

My camera works intermittently will this fix it.
Yes, that's initial why I replaced this one. Works intermittently/black screen etc.
Ditto, I just replaced mine, not much to it if you're a DIYer.
Actually T20 on the handle screws…
Just replaced my very easy just 15 minutes start to finish
Thanks for using basic tools. I hate when videos are using shop tools, like everyone has an air compressor.
I don’t have the tools
Thanks!
