I am sorry you did as you are better off without any guide. Singapore food is derivative of mainland Malaysia as the residents of Singapore originally came from Peninsula Malaysia before they break away in 1967.
@@hangtuah888 i beg to differ. I think the guide did a wonderful job and probably beyond what we could see behind the camera with the stories and history of Singapore. He also introduced alot of different foods that are not commonly featured in UA-cam / blogs. Your claims that residents of singapore originally came from Peninsula Malaysia is already factually wrong. Singapore became 1 with Malaysia (then known as Malaya) in 1963 and it only lasted two years till 1965 before Singapore broke away from Malaysia.
Without a doubt this is one of the best food tours of Singapore. The otak otak, popiah... aren't something Westerners would order on their own but more importantly, whether they like it or not, they tasted something locals love.
Glad you guys enjoy the singapore food and trip...its always helpful to have a local guide especially well verse on food to explain things, you will know the food better instead of checking out on your own...hope you guys come back for more...
Fun fact: Despite the name "Hainanese Chicken Rice" it's actually made very differently in Hainan. It originated from Hainanese immigrants which then adopted local ingredients and evolved over time. In Hainan it's called Wenchang chicken. The difference is in the cooking method and the sauces used. In Singapore, the chicken is shocked in an ice bath after being boiled to stop overcooking hence why it's sometimes cold and you can taste a gelatinous layer in between the skin and meat, that is the fat. In Hainan, they also use white rice but in Singapore we use rice that is cooked in chicken fat and pandan leaf. I have heard that in Hainan now they also adopt this method and cook their rice in chicken fat too. The current version is popularised by a Singaporean by the name of Moh Lee Twee.
Hey guys - we just returned from Singapore and while there we booked this food tour with Arthur. He was even more amazing in person than he was on camera. We loved every minute with him and learned a ton. Like you, we were stuffed full about the time her said we were at 60%. Thanks for featuring him in your video - we never would have found him otherwise!
These tour guides are very well educated in the history of Singapore n the stalls they bring tourists to are good. No they do not get commissions from the stalls. And… don’t forget to leave a tip for the guide. 😃
Very nice video you two always uplift my spirit. I really like the idea of having a guide it just seems a lot easier to have some who’s familiar with everything.
Welcome to Singapore. I loved your vlog. It was amazing. Thank you for visiting our local hawker centres and enjoy the varieties of food. Hope to see you guys u guys back to Singapore.
Nice to see that they are introduced to all the 3 major Singapore races food. Because i do see quite a lot of times Malay food quite under represented with the exception of Nasi Lemak.
There r so much similarities between d food in Malaysia n Singapore. D food u guys had at Kampung Glam r all Malay traditional food like nasi lemak, karipap n seri muka.
WOW having a food tour guide really helpls a ton in Singapore. He did an amazing job with the little time he had. Still this is only like probably 5-10% of what SG has to offer on food.
