Several years ago, we spent a week boondocking in a remote and beautiful spot near Canyonlands National Park in southern Utah. We were sitting in the RV one night with the lights down low, when we thought we spotted something moving up near the driver's seat.
Sure enough, a little field mouse had gotten on board.
We'd never had a mouse on the RV before, so we didn't keep any mousetraps around. Even if we had been anywhere near a store, they'd already be closed this late at night. But we were eager to catch him before he could do any damage, so we had to figure out how to make a mousetrap with items we had around the RV.
Here's a re-creation of the exact method we used to make a homemade (humane, no-kill) mousetrap and get the little rodent off our RV.
The piano music is my own performance of Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag from 1899.

Good tip. I have a story about no kill traps. I lived in a log home on some land, local field mice would look for a warm place to spend the winter, that place happened to be my place. So I set no kill traps, after all I was on their land. I would catch them and take them about a mile away to an area that had running water. After several months of catching mice once a week, I started looking more closely at the individuals, they looked familiar. So I painted a little red dot on the top of their heads when caught, before release. Low and behold turns out about 80 percent of the captures were return customers. One mile turns out to be a pretty long walk for a mouse, but not too long it would seem.
thats literally the cutest this ever
@@inkysquidd9585 not when they food poison you
@@realheckertrustmebro 😔 it wasnt on purpose tho
You guys crack me up! Great idea!
Troy Reeves We've seen that commercial before and love it! lol
lol loved the end, cute mouse
omg the end 😂😂😂😂😂
Great video! I love trying to outsmart rodents. That breed of mouse tends to have a higher survival rate and deserves preservation. The less resilient cordless breed, however, tend to die unexpectedly anyway and are harder to catch...unless you grab them by the dongle.
Ahahaha last part I cracked up
Good stuff, thanks for sharing. Utah is beautiful.
I was like " is he really gonna put his hand in there? it's this man crazy!" 😂😂
Better watch out for those LASER mice....they are evolving....and they'll get you every time....
LMAO, good one! Thanks for the laugh, but it is a very good idea.
Ha ha ha ha I never expect that it was a computer mouse. Hahahahahahah, but in reality it'l work for sure.
***** lol
great idea
LOL Love the computer mouse at the end.
2:23 That made me giggle. Very creative use of a computer mouse.
Don't lift it by the tail. That can harm a mouse.
;-)
Brilliant ending!
I laughed WAY TOO hard at the end. NICE!
Love it! How did you guys think up this one?
Between the two of us, we have one good brain! lol
Wait,....I recognize that mouse in the final shot! That's one heck of a tail he has.
how much for the jumping computer mouse?
Loved it
Ah, ha, ha, ha!!! Great idea, but my mousetrap weighs 16 pounds. By the time I know there's a mouse about (or bug or bee or whatever), my kitty is proudly guarding its corpse.
Nice dude
You got me,good one 😂
Good video. Thank you for the great tip...and the good-natured chuckle! ;)
What a great idea. Very funny video too !!!!!
I love your stuff. Thanks
Genius !! Why does this video have so many dislikes ???? Weird.....
+raybbj Maybe because it's not "RV exclusive" type of content, which seems to attract more trolls than usual? Either that or they were mad that we didn't kill it. 😉
Your sight gag was cute
As long as you are monitoring the trap , then some water or vegetable oil in the bowl should help so the mouse doesn't escape. Then release it when you see it.
Water or oil will kill them, which is of course what some people choose to do. For this video, we specifically showed how to do the "no kill" method. They can indeed jump out of that bowl, so being nearby and ready for it was required in this case.
Welllllll dang...you DID it! (a better mousetrap)!
Very clever - thanks! Jim@MidOhio
THANK-YOU
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Totally taken in. Enjoyed.
i love that mouse!
LOLLLLL computer mouse in the end

Funny Ending
what is you have a wireless mouse problem?
Oh yeah... a virtual infestation! :-P
he's learning how to be Sans
***** he made a pun fyi a joke
lol i love it
2:27 minutes: Yep, I knew this. This would be the only way you could react fast enough in order to cover the bowl. That new shining hygienic looking bowl would need to have been thrown away if it were a real mouse prancing around in it.
Very cute demonstration, but there is no way I let those things live. I guarantee if you only walked that mouse away, it's sure to come running right back.
The nice thing about catching them this way is that you can decide how to dispose of them afterwards. ;-)
Dear (hee hee) NoProGoPronto,
I can't agree with you more. Just the fact that I don't want to waste my time is going to make sure the targeted miserable seriously diseased germ ridden rodent, a threat to us all doesn't live is going to have me using the very best trap I can conjur up. I can't believe it.
PEOPLE PLEASE NOTE: Rats LOVE flouride. Regardless of what theorists say it is and does to you, rats LOVE IT! and will lick your tooth brush sparkling clean. Anyway, please put your toothbrush in a container so the rat that so many people don't think they have doesn't compromise your toothbrush.
Get a good mousetrap baited with peanut butter and anchored down to a rafter in your attic. It the trap snaps shut on him and it wiggles to get loose he could fall between the walls and decompose for months if not half a year or more. I've experienced this at more than one business location. P U.
nice mouse....
I sometimes connect the tail of my pet mouse to my computer. Is that animal abuse?

+sherry johnson The computer mouse was a stunt double. 😉
