Try contact the authorities about the situation. And scam are what thieves always do and steal and rob people. They are indeed corrupted by lust, pride and greed for power and money.
After reading the title I can't help but think "welcome to the Chinese National business model" I bought a "Made in America, 100% wool shirt" what I got was an acrylic piece of garbage that looked like what I bought. When I saw the shipping label was from inland China & they said my only recourse was to "give it to someone as a gift" I was furious. Being allergic to most synthetic fabrics & a huge proponent of wool really exacerbated things. I discovered their ruse when I read through their "about" page line by line & fact checked it.
you have a typo :p

Hi my heart goes out to you
Facebook has NO interest in removing misleading or unethical ads - they make too much money from them.
At this point, I think it is more than that. I am becoming of the opinion that they are actively working against American interests. It isn't just naked greed... it is malevolence.
Facebook is currently getting sued for profiting off of human trafficking, of course they won't care about unethical ads. They'd never go against China and risk losing all that slave labor money.
This is why I’m not involved in Facebook or Twitter or (well whatever)! If you haven’t seen the Social Dilemma, it’s worth a watch.
@Dajuan Washington lmao yes
Facebook is full of Elon Musk sponsored scam ads yet they have something called 'community standards'.
My content gets used in Chinese adverts all the time. Including my voice overs. One of my most popular videos kept doing viral sweeps on Facebook and they really don't care about copyright breaches at all.
This is why it's really important to have your channel name in shot in every video. (Although they still use the content with the channel name in view!)

How is this hurting you if at all? They made your vids go viral, thanks for free promotion, no?

Facebook is extracting money from China with those ads. They remove them when there is a complain, but I agree they should do better. Apple is sending billions of our dollars to China and yet people think they are the best. What kind of logic is that. Apple is the worst by far not Facebook. It's not really a "scam". Everything you buy is a cheap Chinese clone of something that used to be made in the USA. People are cheap so they could spend $30 for the original or probably less than $10 for some copy.
If only China was conservative. Social media would shut them down in minutes.
I stopped doing business with Amazon for reasons similar to this a long time ago with only one or two exceptions when I got cornered. They clearly don't care about the consumer they only care about money for themselves they have monopolies on so many products it makes me sick. I asked for a refund from the seller on an eBay purchase when I found out he was just a middleman for a Chinese purchase. I always limit my purchases to North America on eBay so it was definitely a sneaky rule breaking game that many Sellers play. I got a refund immediately. I hope somehow the Lord rewards that young man through your video.
Well said. I say, Made in USA is a good brand. 🇬🇧
This is why science channels watermark all their videos
You need to have stickers or something to put on the stuff you are testing
the stickers are actually much appealing versus a digital watermark. even just wrap the buckets or near the doors.
Even worse that the companies will fork over money without doing a background check. They don't care about quality, they only want cheap supply.

Same with UA-cam. It went well with UA-cam for this special case. But UA-cam are just as unethical. They often demonitize videos - and then presnet the videos with *own* ads the video owner foesn't get any money for.
Ethics isn't exactly at the top of the priorities for yhe bigger companies. Their main goal is making the companies selling the ads happy. Not the content creators.
while true, companies are made of people. Not all of which are likely to be unethical, so with enough pressure they will either adapt to their customers, or go under. UA-cam has changed many times. the most recent was the uptick in listening more to content creators. Which imo is a good thing. Enough people demanded a reasonable change and it happened. Have a nice day. :)

He should even put stickers on the mice and rats, for good measure.

Bigclive does this and it's great.
by using stickers/writing/other physical things rather than just editing a watermark in, it becomes a part of the video itself, and doesn't annoy me.
I met the owner who made Bunch o Balloons. He is an inventor and developed it with his family, this is his main source of income. He spent years in legal battles fighting fakes, he didn't make any money on it. The fault is not just in China, people in the US knowingly buy chinese fakes because they're cheaper.
Big this! People will always want the cheapest product available and that is available as quickly as possible. Morality and supporting your own community/country goes out the window when money is involved.

I would hope and believe that there are lawyers out there willing to represent Shawn and RinneTraps. I think there would be great interest out there if Shawn would video document this legal process as thousands of others out there have dealt with similar frustrations. Meanwhile, RinneTraps should immediately apply some distinctive branding with the Made In America flag directly onto the product, even it's just a decal to distinguish it more.

copying is not the worse, counterfeiting without quality, or even worse out right scamming.
In Chinese Communism there is no copyright law - only profits :P Ironic isn't it
Oh they care, but only when you do it to them
You mean, like if someone had a mini ''great wall of china'' that they marketed as great American border idea ? That kind of copying ?

What I think it, sadly, comes down to is that you have to strike with a lawyer. Fb has to take those seriously. Well, as long as the case per se holds water on the strikers part.
One reason I don't like FB..
Who still uses Facebook anyway honestly...
I bought one of these traps and I think it works great! The inventor came up with a wonderful idea and he should get credit for everything he did.
chinese businesses are doing such practices across all kinds of product categories... glad someone realized it
Even shitty Amazon rips off popular products and sells them under their own 'amazon basics' brand name. I'm sure the commissions they make on pirated goods is incentive enough to keep them from taking it more seriously.
okay let's delete the chinese word from my comment
I canceled my Facebook long time ago. The world will never do it.
only reason i still have my facebook account is because of different racing stuff and my Spotify account were linked to it lol
Shawn, we should all report the fraudulent listings and push back on these companies to not support the thieves
Do you know which categories to select when reporting? I'm not seeing an option for counterfeit product
Good idea! Thank you!
Don't waste your time. I did exactly that here in the UK and Amazon refused to allow me to post an exposing review.
Amazon claims that there are too many "reports" form non-purchasers and ceased reporting of the counterfeit traps.
A few years ago I came up with a fishing lure design. To get a patient was $3,000.00 dollars. That was 5 years ago. Now it’s $7,000.00. I was thinking; “ what’s the point?” Spending all that money and effort, and have China steal my idea.
I'm considering buying this just to help the real owner.

Not just this mouse trap, too many products around the world had suffered this. Mainland Chinese businessmen doesn't respect copyrights. Amazon and the social media giants should take this responsibility to detect this.
I apologise on behalf on Chinese, my nation businessmen lost moral.

This video seriously boils my blood. I hate shady Chinese business and big tech. So this hits both buttons
Just the Chinese business and big tech? Not all the others that constantly rip people off, like Chrysler, Ford, Apple, Amazon, GM, Microsoft, Alphabet (parent company UA-cam and Google) nearly every real estate business and used car lot on the planet, most banks, and insurance companies, Politicians (of every party or affiliation) pharmaceutical companies.
Basically any entity that chases profit.

Nothing is more uneducated as believing a single country is exclusive to fraud and rip offs. Intelligent people focus on the issue not the scape goating
Lesson learned: If you are doing a video to promote your product, WATERMARK IT. Put several watermarks on it in several locations and display them ALL THE TIME. Be sure that watermark includes your site or name, and your copyright notice. They may still rip off your product, but they'll have to make their own demo video.
With Facebook & Amazon they'll only listen to lawyers, and shun the rest because lawyers have enough power to truly have a effect to their bottom line.
Walmart has done this since 1990s... Buying items from local craftsmen/women during craft shows. Sending those items "overseas" to be made in large production.
That's why Hobby Lobby is much better for craft materials. Most of their products are actually made in the USA.
This is why I stopped buying on Amazon or Facebook years ago. Support small business here in the US
And I support businesses in my homeland México
The only place they sell the trap is Amazon.
Kudos, I do the same in my country. 🇿🇦🇿🇦

Good job UA-cam for dealing with the stolen video. Keep up the good work Shawn and great job RinneTraps.
Time to start crowd funding for lawyers to sue these companies!
And Facebook
Impossible in other countries
If they have the patent for this trap, then why not sue facebook, amazon, twitter, and other websites promoting the stolen product? Those websites are making money from it as well, they should be held accountable. I know it's easier said than done, however it might be worth a shot.
amazon would be protected under safe harbor because they took measures but facebook probably isnt
Face book? Definitely, they eve promote unoriginal creators that stole from UA-cam videos!
Just ordered mine from the link below with PayPal! Thanks for keeping companies honest.
I went and reported like 10 listings on Amazon... There are just too many. ugh.

I think in the future you should put a watermark on all footage showing new mouse trap designs. Should be placed right across the footage, so it cannot be cropped out. Your viewers will understand, and actually appreciate it :)
Amen
@Troy johnson that is what I meant. On all video clips showing off new trap designs and products in action. Him talking, nature and antique traps probably don't need it. Although there is an argument to be made to have all "steal worthy" footage watermarked

Similar thing happened to "Aquachigger" a metal detecting website. Some guy in Saudi Arabia stole a couple of his videos and was making money off them. Chigg complained to UA-cam and their response was they were considering terminating his channel for filing a false claim. Aquachigger has more then a million subscribers but the other guy has over 4 million. You know who was making the most money for UA-cam. It very common to see a product from some small company to be copied and sold by another company (unless you patent your idea, which would give you a little protection). I wouldn't be surprised if you where able to research the path from original to copy that it goes through some American (person/company) that sent it off to China to have it made at a lower cost and they (the American) is raking in a percentage of the sale!
Need to pass new law to confiscate all the proceeds from the counterfeit sellers from Amazon and eBay, plus penalties to the sellers and Amazon and eBay. Let's brainstorm of any other ways possible to stop the thieves.

Not surprised. I had 6 years in manufacturing, as an engineer. One company I worked for partnered with a plant in China. We sent our QC staff and the VP of manufacturing over to inspect the plant. They returned and said "We were told things would go better if we send over the design drawings".
I objected because I had worked for a previous company and we knew "Intellectual property" and "Proprietary property" does not exist over there. I was ignored and the drawings were sent. 6 months later a colleague in the Philippines called me and asked when did we expand into the Pacific market. We hadn't but our products had magically appeared there.
