Yay. Thank you. This sounds absolutely perfect. I'm trying not to freeze everything any more and hadn't even thought of herb salt. Garlic scape salt sounds amazing for lamb. Xxoo
Enjoyed your new music/graphics opening for the video. You look radiant with this hair color. Excited to try this salt preservation.
Thank you so much! What a great video and just what I was looking for for my herb abundance!
I can have an idea of you being young, but can't imagine you being stupid. For easier and faster processing, put herbs in first. The salt is heavy and will help process the herbs better.
Just what I was going to write :)
Great tip thanks
Genius
I guess she missed the first day of culinary school. That was painful to watch her blame her 'old and senile' processor for not chopping the herbs while the blades were drowning in salt.
You can use the different mints, lemon zest, vanilla bean and sugar in the same respect and make flavored sugars. Loved this video.
that’s brilliant! i am a big fan of apple mint and grow quite a bit for tea. i have done vanilla beans in sugar as well. i will have to experiment.
Cardamon and Rose sugars are personal favorites besides the already mentioned.
@@kingdomcome8697 apple mint? where do you get that lol I want some!
Rebecca Krebel i don’t recall where i ever originally got it from! throughout the last 15 years or so my mom took some from me and i moved so i had to get some back from her. i just got some more this year and began to recultivate it. it is the best mint imo. very strong, sweet with large lush foliage.
@@rebeccakrebel7413 I'd be happy to dig some bare root starts for you. I've mailed plenty and they do well
If you process the herbs first before adding the salt, it would blend easier. Personally, I would process the herb and salt separately: sage salt, tarragon salt, rosemary salt, bay leaf salt, etc., and keep them in separate jars. Then you could mix the herbs based upon the dish you're preparing.
Didn't know this was an option. What a wonderful idea! And thanks for not editing out the different steps like others would. It's nice to watch the whole thing!
I agree! It is so helpful!:)
Tarragon salt is AMAZING on sauteed Mushroos too. That's my families favorite way to use it.
Helpful hint for old processors, put the salt in last.
This spring I did this with spruce tips. Such a lovely addition to the pantry
Hey Shay, loved this salt and herb idea. I've already made a couple and took it a little further by making an herbal sugar! YUM! Took my mint and some sugar along with some vanilla powder. Processed as you showed and now I have the most amazing sugar for tea or baking or whatever. Oh lemons were on sale so yup, mint infused lemonade. The mint is very subtle but you know it's not your normal run of the mill drink. My family loved it! Thanks. Hi to Stu. Be well.💚
Love this idea! 🥰
@@hoopnfarm thank you😉
Great idea! Can't wait to try it
Your channel is so relaxing and your voice is so soothing. Thank you for sharing what you know
love your hair!!!
She looks stunning!!!!!
I love the color! Do you do it yourself? I liked the platinum blond too. This looks healthy and natural. That’s how I like to do my hair in the fall.
I love this color too, she looks every pretty.
I wish I had Smell-o-Vision today! Great idea, Shaye.
♥️. I'll be making this for Christmas gifts this year ! Thanks
I have never thought about doing this. Where has my head been all these years. By the way love the new color the hair it’s so flattering.
I'm so making this. Thank you. And love your warmer hair color.
I love rosemary. I’m so happy that I found a little alcove again my house where my rosemary and lavender happily survive the winter in zone 6a
Love your hair...color is so pretty!
Your hair looks so good! I love the salted herb idea.. I’m definitely trying this
I was looking for a birthday present for my sister. A few yars of different homemade salts... perfect idea
"Rosemary can have a real soapy taste if you use too much of it."
NOW YOU KNOW HOW THOSE OF US WHO CAN"T EAT CILANTRO FEEL WHEN WE ARE SERVED JUST ONE LEAF.
Right?! One tiny tiny little piece and im gagging
RIP
Learned that liking cilantro is actually a DNA trait. Some people have the gene to love it, some have the gene to hate it. So if you hate it, blame your DNA 😉
I learned that disliking cilantro is a DNA thing. Mine showed an aversion to cilantro which I have !!! Tastes like pure soap to me 🤮
@@TheRayjane I used to feel exactly the same...I hated cilantro....but after being served it in salsa that I still wanted to eat, it didn't take me long and now I love cilantro and it never tastes like soap anymore 🤔👍👍 Go figure....so don't give up ☺️
Love the hair! I also have gone back to my natural colour after dying it regularly for 20+ years (I'm 37).
Love love the hair.. looks very warm and natural on you❤️❤️❤️
Best idea for herbs ever! I love growing herbs, favorite part of my garden. So excited to try different blends. Thanks Shay.
Thank you ! I’ve been drying mine but I’m doing this for sure! 😍
Thank you for this. I as well do not like hanging up my herbs to dry. This is a fantastic way to save our bounty.
Ooooo, this is a great idea! I do freeze my cilantro though. My husband is Puerto Rican and the basis for all of their cooking is sofrito. Very simply put it’s onion, garlic, a pepper, and cilantro and everyone makes it a little different. Anyways, I make big batches of it and freeze it in an ice cube tray and it works like a dream. Seriously, everyone needs to try sofrito, it’s amazing on practically everything. But yes, herb salt! I will have to give it a try.
Do you chop the sofrito ingredients and freeze raw? Does cilantro freeze well? I have to try this!
I just saw sofrito somewhere. I now know what it is! Do you mix it in olive oil to freeze it?
Sounds amazing. Now I have to try TWO new recipes 😉
Typically I throw an onion, several cloves of garlic, a bell pepper, and an entire bunch of cilantro (stems and all) into a food processor and chop it up pretty fine because it goes nicely into the ice cube tray. And yeah, just freeze it like that. Sometimes I add olive oil, sometimes not. Yes, it does freeze very well. After they’re frozen I’ll pop out the cubes and store them in a bag or container. Other things that are common in sofrito are celery, green olives, tomato tomato paste. Great on a roast chicken or pork.. or beef, aaaand it makes great beans. Thaw a cube and put it in some yogurt for a veggie dip, I even put it in potato salad. Probably more than you wanted to know, but I hope it helps!
That’s a fabulous idea to freeze it!:)
Why have I never done this before!! Thanks for the inspiration 💛
Thank you for the amazing idea. I grew way too many herbs this year and wanted something to do with them.
Well that was fun and easy - I was able to make it right along with you with herbs in my window box. Glad I did - there’s no way to imagine how incredible it smells!
I have been searching for a great way to use herbs besides drying!! Thank you for the inspiration, sweet Shaye!
I must say your hair looks beautiful, healthy and natural!
Awesome idea! I just grabbed a whole bunch of herbs from my yard and did this today, and it smells amazing in my house right now.
Thank you for this tutorial! I can grown rosemary, oregano and thyme nearly year-round here in Texas, but love having this method to preserve my cold-tender basil. Already freezing some, but the salt method will be so much better for daily use. I need to remember to do this with my cilantro too (once it's cooler here & I can grow some more).
Rosemary is hands down my favorite herb too! I’ve got mine in the greenhouse because they used to die in my zone-7a. That was before I realized there might be hardier varieties 🥂
I can’t wait to try these with my herbs! Thank you!
Wow I didn’t know I could do that with my herbs. Learn something new every day. Thank you.
I love this ♡ Your hair is beautiful! So flattering! ♡
I just made this 🥰 it’s smelled just like you said mmmmmm.... thank you had was drying herbs and now this looks so much better!
Wow! I so wish I had saw this 2 months ago! This seems like the best way ever to preserve herbs! This year this tip is one of the best ones! Thanks!
Thank you for the super ideas! Growing older I surprisingly require strong flavors, so rosemary is my favorite herb.(also the name of my yellow cat) Learning how to grow herbs here in Nevada. Must have. D.
What a wonderful recipe I am making this. So beautiful
Thank you for posting this! I always wondered how I could preserve my herbs. Sounds like a perfect idea!
Your hair looks so good! Loved this idea of preservation! I will definitely try it!
Great idea! I love learning different ways to preserve
Okay Shaye...I can think of so many things to make with these salts!!! Going outside to my herb garden now!!
This idea has never even crossed my mind before. I’m making jars of this as Christmas gifts!:) ❤️
@@BecauseitMatters that would be an amazing gift!!
You came onto my feed just at the right time, my harvest is substantial for me and tried other ways but this is fabulous. Loving it. X
Very nice Shaye! I do versions of this myself. Thanks for reminding me that it's time again! My old Cuisinart is old and senile too!
I was just looking at my sage and wonder how to preserve! Now I have it thanks Shay !
Can't wait to make some, i rarely use my herbs as well, but this i would, you are so right.
Never would’ve thought to do this! Such a unique and useful way of storing. 😄
I totally agree!:)

I made loads of this amazing salt this summer, so tasty! And an easy way to preserve herbs. We just butchered our turkeys yesterday and I made a brine with this Tuscan salt and added it to the bag. Hopefully it makes our heritage turkey tender and tasty!
Wow ! Incredible- this is so special- I am doing this 🌸 Thank YOU 💕
I will do this!!!!! We use so many herbs in cooking and baking, this will add to our collection. Thank you so much for showing us how to do this. We do this with sugar because we drink so much tea and coffee. For example a Green tea base then we add a herb flavored sugar. Yum! My daughter makes a lemon tea then adds chamomile flavored sugar to taste. We do use raw sugar, so it has a tan color to it. GOD bless you all. Love from south Texas!
This is genius! So simple and so smart!
YAY so excited to try this with all my herbs this summer--what an awesome idea!
Thaaaank you! Love this. No freezer space needed. 👏🏻🙌🏻👌🏼
Great tips! I too have herbs hanging in the kitchen that I don't use. I'm harvesting some herbs tomorrow and doing this!
That rosemary looks glorious! What a great video. I've been a professional cook for years, but don't really have a lot of experience with for preservation. Never lasts long enough at the restaurant lol. I'm getting into the prepper mentality and I can't wait to make some herb salt!
Fabulous. I am really excited to get cracking in the kitchen tomorrow.
Love the salt and herb mixes. Will be trying. Thanks
Definitely excited about doing this!
Cant wait to try this & sprinkle over hot popcorn! Thank you for the great recipe 😊
Add a little jalepeno powder... It's our family go to....
This is an example of when 'it's only common sense, when you know how'!
I really only have these herbs growing in my garden because they are my favourites. Now I'm inspired in a new direction that I know will last a life time. Thank you!! xx
Looks scrumptious! I can’t wait to make some. 🌱
Genius! I have been drying and storing my herbs in jars bc I don’t want to let any go to waste... but this looks amazing! I’m so excited to try this!
Such a clever idea! I’m doing this for Christmas gifts!:)
Another great recipe to join my pickled cucumbers. My Welsh kitchen has seen some serious action recently thanks to you Shaye.

Running the stem of the rosemary through a colander is a quick way to get the leaves off without the stem pieces
Love love love the idea.
❤️Zone 7!!! I've been green with envy over your flowers here my zone 3. We can't even grow zucchini outside...we have greenhouses. I'm a homeschooling homesteading mom of 4 and love watching your videos, thank you.
