  • Day 15 Progress :
Downhill is a whole different story for me. This feels like I'm back to Day 1 progress with the amount of fails :(
I'm trying my best! I've watched inertia drift guides, grip lines guide, downshifting, left foot braking etc but it will take time, as during the driving, its very hard for me to maintain all aspects while trying not to slid or crash :(
Should I practice inertia during downhill while clutch kicking during uphill? I feel like I need to practice more on throttle control and proper drifts first to get the feel, I dont even know how to properly get the car to exit a drift, or I cant even do donuts properly :( I understand my corners pins this run is bad, im not used to the power to weight ratio yet and end up braking too hard as I felt im coming into the corner too fast but we need to be fast otherwise it wont drift :( ends up understeering alot!
Thank you so much for the amount of comments and subscribes I get, to follow on my journey to learn this, one day we will try it on mount Akina for real~ I read every comments and taking all advices to thoughts and it motivates me to keep trying my best! I didnt expect I'd get this much support and subs ~
    Hey everyone
in this series, I'll be driving on Mt Akina everyday until I learn to do it smoothly, and eventually drift. I'll be posting my timelaps until I improve myself, and go to the real Mt Akina and properly drift there, and become a professional racer!
I'm new to sim racing, as its slippery for me compared to IRL
all these videos are for my self improvement, so advices are welcomed!
hoping one day I can race fellow racers too, make friends and race on these mountain pass :)
Even if I dont upload everyday, I try to do a lap of Akina before I sleep!
I work double shifts on 3 -4 days so I get tired when I get home but Im dedicated to learn how to drift!
Apologies if my English isn't the best~
    Setup :
    Logitech G293 + H shifter manual, Ebay handbrake ;-;
let me know where I can improve, downshifting, upshifting etc!~

I think the best advice if you want to improve is to just drive. Don't overthink it with all these tips like "you should clutch kick on uphill and scandi flick on downhill !!", that will just confuse you even more. Just drive smooth (slow is smooth and smooth is fast), don't drift and you'll see improvement overtime. (I mean look at how Bunta taught his son, bro just gave him a water cup and that's about it)

Takumi prolly did this thousands of times.
It's a huge commitment to do this everyday and you might die of old age before ever being able to complete it smoothly.
But honestly i see hope at around day 30,50, 70-85 and maybe after 200 tries. You could get atleast half the tricks down. Don't get discouraged though! Keep it up

Youre right! Thank you for the encouragement :") i dont expect myself to master the course anytime soon too but one day it will !

    Alright, where to begin...
First of all, it's important to know how to steer to turn your car. You steer way too much, and go full lock a lot of the time. This will make you understeer hardcore. Imagine this hypothetical scenario:
You're at 60Kph, and you want to turn left. You turn your wheel 45 degrees, and your car turns! You want to turn more, so you turn the wheel 90 degrees. The car turns harder! Now, you want to turn even more, so you rotate the wheel further, but all you hear is tyres screeching and you're not actually turning any better. You've now surpassed your tyre's ability to rotate your car at 60Kph. You're now understeering. What does turning the wheel more do here? Yes, it makes you understeer *harder*, you're not turning better, or turning the same, you're turning even worse.
This is a big issue I see with a lot of beginners who just started driving in general. They understeer, so they turn the steering wheel more. This is very wrong, and you're asking the car to understeer. In most cases, your car can take that corner just fine, but the way you drive takes that away from you.
Second of all, you can't practice 2 hours practicing "power to weight ratio". Power to weight is a stat. It's a number based on how much power you've got relative to your weight. It's like saying you spent two hours practicing Toe Angle.
Third of all, when you slide I notice you just get off the gas completely. You have to stay on throttle, control the gas pedal, and carry yourself through the slide. You "sliding" but slowing down regardless and not carrying it through just makes you lose momentum.
    4. Take Initial D out of your mind, and throw it in the furnace. Stop thinking about things you don't understand and can't execute. Focus on the basics. Left Food Braking, "Inertia Drifting", Scandi-Flicks, etc. are a nothing burger if you don't know how to steer, take a corner, take a basic racing line, or control your pedals. They mean nothing to you, and currently will not benefit you, because you cannot understand them let alone perform them in a meaningful way that would positively impact your times. Instead, they'll distract you from learning the things that truly matter at your current level.
If you really think that these are the things you lack, then look at the other people, including myself, who are pretty decent at Akina and don't really need to do any left-foot-braking at all. All of us instead have something we share - a solid foundation and a good understanding of driving mechanics. *That's* what you really need. A big issue I see all the time is people thinking about things that aren't applicable to them at their level at all, and it's largely because of the nothing burgers and the cringe stuff people post online about driving well when they don't know much themselves and end up spreading false information. This hinders the learning for new drivers because not only do they have to brute-force and learn things the long and hard way, but some just end up quitting. Focus on the essentials, and not the supplements. You could really use some live feedback *from people who know what they're doing* so you can get corrected whenever you do something sussy. You could also just learn on your own like the rest of us, but using the resources available to you is an important part of learning. Be efficient. Time is something you never get back.
Last but not least, never be disappointed as long as you're making progress, and you're not really disappointing anyone either. Moreover, you shouldn't care about disappointing anyone other than yourself. It's *your* driving. Who cares how slow you are? It doesn't affect anyone. The only person you should care about being happy with your progression is yourself.
Now for the most important advice: DRIVE. Keep Driving.

thank you for the encouragement! yes i go with my own pace too, its all for my progress too :) I realise I'm trying to learn so much at once when I havent even mastered the basics. Understeering is an issue for me still and i will need to get used to it, and me releasing the gas too is something I realize and need to fix! I have this habit now that when my car starts to slide, i release the gas to avoid spinning out :( but yes I will take it slowly and learn the basic too, always appreciate feedbacks from you!

HAHAH yess because i thought im not building enough speed for the corners, my car wont slide properly. also i didnt think about handbrakes at all. is it fine to start using handbrake at this early stage?

@@realTakumifujiwara It's good to learn how to drift without it so it's not a crutch, but you should still learn how to use handbrake to correct mistakes. imo not crashing is more important than not pulling the handbrake
