Tip 0 😂
Although it's hard, but stay true to your self, a lot of times, self validation and financial pressure can really lead people to make the wrong career decisions. It is not easy, but once you figure out a way to stay true to yourself, it doesn't matter what you do and what other people thinks as things will fall in place
simple words, gave me goosebumps. Needed to hear that
How self validation can lead people to make wrong decision
I didn't understand !! 😅
As a data scientist who also does "traditional" IT, I would say tech is the new rat race and you really need to think if constantly upgrading just to be employable is what you want in the long run.
It is heavily reliant on your ability to keep learning and demonstrating a good attitude.
Java and Cybersecurity roles along with, network engineer, VLSI, and networking roles are always hiring. So are, product management, Salesforce, and PPM type of roles. Core fields are great but they just aren't that much in demand. Always choose IT or CS or Electrical/Networking and learn to code in Java or Javascript. You are pretty much guaranteed to get a high-paying job. Data/Machine learning/Crypto was also up and coming but the pay, career growth, job opportunities, competition and work-life are much worse than traditional coding roles. If you like data and math, try for quant roles and keep C++ as a backup.
@@mohit4902 hey , I am a student / beginner in tech field and I know programming languages(java, c++,c) and DSA . I am confused about which technology to choose, as there are so many things nowadays , I don't even know which technologies I should check out . Can you guys please help and recommend some tech which I should try to find my interest . I am also interested to contribute in open source in future so which technologies should I try???
you really couldn't have come with a better time to upload this
I gotchu
I follow my gut and talk to someone who knows my goal and who isn't directly affected by the decision aka unbiased feedback
That's legit a super great tip ☝️
Self awareness is key
One thing I count a lot to enter I the company is the team that I will work with are friendly and the people in the team respect each other. Because when I did my internship during the college, my colleagues was so stressful with each other and they scream with each other. For me, I saw that and I didn't want that for my life.
I appreciate the insight especially since I’m trying to plan out my transition after college into my profession. I still don’t really know what field I want to get into but I do know I have to just wait and see what opportunities open up
Hey I'm a front end developer from Scotland. Just started watching your videos as I stumbled across one on my recommended page. Did not realise you made if/else, love that podcast! Need a new series of it! Haha. Loving the videos.
I loved the video!!! I think it's very important to feel excited about our job because we spend so much time there and we deserve to feel happy and valued.
I love the if else podcast I'm looking forward to the next one. Each episode is better than the last one. It's the right balance between entertaining and informative.
Yay!! Aw thanks for the kind words on both the video and the podcast. So happy you like it!
I like your last tip! Being excited about a potential career opportunity is so important. I don’t think I’d pursue an opportunity if I wasn’t excited for it. Thanks for the tips!
Hi Mayuko, thank you for the great video! You are so right about the importance of both being and feeling valued by your company and your team.
I would also add that, especially if you are new to the workforce and/or starting a new career (in tech or otherwise): It's ok if you make a "mistake" and pick a company/organization that doesn't work out for you the first time.
It's more important that you find a company that you enjoy working for, and a job that offers you growth, rather than just trying to "stick it out".
A few weeks, or even a couple months, of "gap time" on your resume won't hurt you as much as years of stagnation and misery in a job you that doesn't challenge you in a company that doesn't value you.
1000%. Thanks for adding this insight.
Thank you for this. I really needed to hear these words today as I am considering my next career path and thinking about how my current job leaves me unfulfilled and without any growth.
Great points. These questions are especially relevant as future roles become more specialized, or you discover you prefer optimizing on different parts of your job/career (product, engineering, leadership, biz dev, etc.).
For me iam IT fresh graduate i want to apply a job in the tech industry but i dont have that confidence that my knowledge and skills is not enough for me to have a job. I'll be honest i didnt focus on my programming classes in college so now i am restudying some programming languages specially front end which my dream job.
Sorry for my grammar!
This year took myself through the door of becoming a developer (Analyst Programmer) from previously being a Business Analyst and somewhat Project Coordinator. Loving the challenge and the passion that has come alive. Will be checking out your podcast, thanks for sharing! :)
Mayuko. Thank you for these. Honestly they don't rly talk about these things in school
This video will help in the future, getting the first Internship is the first step.
When I quit my job a few days while back, I was totally thinking about what you said --- "Do I still learn in this position ?" and "Do I get enough pay?”
. Now I am determined, doing leetcode and redo my resume for interviews! Hope I can get my dream company
If you’re not happy, quit before you lose your self confidence
Makes a looooooot sense!
Hey Mayuko, Thank you for these great tips! I have some questions if you have time c:
1. how important is the first job after college, just get some experience? study for months until I land the right one?
2. How hard is it to switch fields in the tech world if each field uses different technology ? eg. iOS vs javascript
Thank you !! :3

Hi Mayuko, many thanks for uploading this video :)
I am a software developer for almost two years and actually, for some time I was wondering what to do with my career
Your tips helped me a lot to pick up a decision (I hope that proper one :) )

I think these tips are also very applicable when making education choices
I'm a software engineer, I really love your channel. Thank you so much for sharing.
I'd love to know more about the different tech jobs in all the industries and the pace of work. Like you mentioned, it moves fast especially if the company is tech product based. Comparing startups, banks, government, mid size, large size - what are all the choices and what's the inside scoop? I think I just joined a team/department in a large size company that feels like a startup and I'm drowning
Keep it up Mayuko. We wanna watch more of your videos :D

Thanks for sharing your personal experience. I will start listening to your podcast too. Good luck on your new projects
I recommend the book 5 patterns of extraordinary careers.
mayuko you're blooming! missing your videos
Can u please make a video of how u started as software developer and how much you put your efforts and what skills u had before joining the job.??
Hi mayuko, any interest in having a legally blind software developer on your podcast?
Wow the podcast if/else is pretty interesting and sounds so crisp
Amazing video! This helped me out a lot!!!
During and prior all the career changes has a :

to continue deliver and learn as much as possible to complement your objectives.
I always ask about risk appetites and resistance to change. Just trying to avoid "we have always done it this way." & "Too hard, too much work, lets just leave it that way." I just like the ever changing nature of tech.
Do check out her podcast! It is exceptionally well done!
Mayuko please make a video that explains about the role, job opportunities about software systems engineer.
Congra ! Hope you can share more.
i was talking to Singaporean lady years back, got good information on telecom industry..
I studied a bachelor of law degree, but decided to go into tech. Im about to graduate with 2nd bachelor in June, in business informatics
and guess what, it was STRESSFUL. The years of classes didnt feel anything close to "exciting", but I saw it through till the end because I had to "make the 2nd chance work out", as I was on scholarship abroad in Germany, graduated with 3.6 GPA.
Coming from South Africa, it was a good opportunity for me.
But after all that, ive decided my first option is Tax consultancy and accounting.
Yes i know, boring, but the numbers dont move, and they make sense.
8 years, 3 countries, 2 degrees and 3 languages later, calculator and spreadsheets, tax legislation...the only "peace" i can imagine;that and a book by the lake on weekends. No more big cities for me.
Never thought id think this way at this age.
...let me get back to debugging this code.
Shoot me.

Hi Mayuko your videos are great.
This might sound dumb but what IT careers doesn’t require math cause I hate math but I still would like to work in IT
omg i really needed this.. thanks so much :)
Great episode!
Perfect video... thank you Mayuko
The most inspirational channel
It is so adorable to watch her talk. Really helpful as well. Love watching your videos.
thanks for the tips! helps a bunch!
going through this right now as i'm switching careers
Mayuko is just the sweerheart
Great tips, as a fellow Silicon Valley techie, I can say she’s spot on, and side note she is super duper pretty ❤️
So, I want to get into something with tech, or at least getting into something like computer science and something like this. But I don't know where to go about it, or have any thought about what I am able to do.
Thanks for reading!
excellent video, thanks for the mental help !!! 🇲🇽
great thanks mayuko ✔😉
nice video ... looking forward your next video ...
I love all your videos.
I like this girl's program very much.
Where do you think a new grad should work in to maximize growth - Silicon Valley or Seattle? I have an offer from a company that have offices in both area and the pay is the same. The HQ is in the valley. Are the opportunities in the valley worth the high COL? Is it better to choose Seattle since the tech scene is huge and it have a low COL? What are your thoughts?
I love your videos ~~ you are the best!
mayukoo miss watching your vids!
What dose it take to be what your dreams would be and how do you persue them
hey, I'm a computer science student and i've been really thinking this for a long time, I'm a 2nd year, I part time as a fullstack-ish at a mid sized company, I'd love to migrate to big size companies, but I fear that a degree would dictate whether I'd be accepted or not, Umm my soft skills are also not on point :( so need help on that too.. May the algorithm finds this content-worthy ^^
Not sure where you're based, but in my experience in the US, experience is more important than anything else. My experience in Korea, however, is different. Here, the school you went to matters and potentially any certificates you've acquired. It varies from place to place.
That said, maybe try to find a mentor at your part time job. Specifically look for a mentor that could help you with soft skills. Communication is key. Bad communication leads to be understanding of requirements leads to a bad product.
The fact that you're thinking about these sorts of things and seeking help suggests you're on the right track. Whatever the path ends up being, I'm sure you'll figure it out :) Good luck
@@DictatorDraco yeah, i'm from Philippines, a southeast asian country where degree and certificates could also mean a lot part of the reason is that state colleges here is free so, there's no reason to not have one, but I just don't really feel it being useful, and i actually have a mentor he taught me how to create web apps using node js and react, and got hired as a junior half-way through enjoy doing it ,being paid(minimum T.T), buttt i could tell he also don't have good soft skills, I've asked our product manager to teach me but i think he is just a natural in communicating and couldn't really boil his skills down to what i could understand.
andd just realized that exploring the industry and improving my skills while in college is actually the way to go,
@@romanmunar Nice! Sounds like you're doing a damn good job of figuring things out. If you need any other tips or anything, feel free to add me on LinkedIn. Just search for "beege", and I'll show up. Best of luck!
@@DictatorDraco Such a solid profile, i don't use linked in, but i do have an account(for stalking purposes in the industry). I'm more of a frontend person, but i'll do reach you out for backend/deploy stuffs... , speaking of which, could you give me tips/resources on learning devops, Best of luck too
@@romanmunar Sounds good~
Hmm, devops is pretty broad. I guess it depends on what specifically you want to get into. It also depends on your learning style. I'm usually a read documentation + play with something kinda guy, so I usually just try to figure out what kinds of documentation or blogs to search for. You may want to start with CI/CD - Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. You can find pretty good definitions of each on Wikipedia, and there are blogs to help distinguish the two, if needed. Before that, you'll need a solid foundation in git branching strategies and shell scripting. There's lots of blogs about branching strategies, and shell scripting has been around long enough that you can find all sorts of resources. Next, you'll want to learn about testing. You'll want to learn about the different kinds of testing - unit, integration, functional, smoke, regression. Since you're doing Node, you'll want to read up on Chai / Mocha / Jasmine / Jest. Personally, I use Jest, but all of those testing systems are excellent. Pick whichever seems most appealing to you. They can also be used for front-end testing. Once you've got branching, shell, and testing down, you can dive into CI itself. The unfortunate bit is that CI isn't really a unified thing in terms of technology. Travis CI and Circle CI are two of the biggest, but I'm a fan of Gitlab CI. You can install a Gitlab server with its CI component on your machine for free, and Gitlab CI isn't too terribly different from Travis or Circle. CD is kind of an extension of CI, but you'll want to read up on packaging and delivery systems. For example at my company, we create our own Debian packages for deployment. We have a (in-house built) centralized command and control server for sending commands to all of our client hardware. The CI builds our software, creates the Debian packages, puts them up on Google Cloud Storage, generates a temporary download URL, sends it to the command and control server, and the command and control server tells all of our client hardware systems to download the package from the download URL and install it. It's smooth~ It feels really cool seeing it all work.
Damn i’m early. good video 👍🏻
I miss your videos, make more no stresssss
if you don't mind me asking, what hair products do you use?
Great video!
If I’m not sure about computer science does that mean it’s not for me? It’s been tough picking a major/career. I feel like I don’t know myself.
I love ur hair :)
Very good learning platform
Thank you for this mayukoo I am fresh grad and I feel like a little bit lost I don't still know what should I do what should I focus web development? IT support? this help me a lot :)
im kind of in the same boat. Graduating in 2 months, business informatics, but still feel kind of lost.
But the last 2 months ive been doing some courses on coursera to try figure some things out.
What did you study, if i may ask

How do you get out of a dead end job
ummm hello im a new subscriber here a 17 years old whose choosing software engineering for college what should i expect in this field or what should i do what would happen?(i really love engagging with technology but don't if it will work out) from the 🇵🇭Philippines
mayuko has great hair
I know all but still I don't know myself and unable find what I really want ... life is f..k off...
These are additional questions that might prove useful: Is this company's technology/intellectual property actually interesting/exciting? Is that interest/excitement going to be enough to motivate me for years? Is this company's main business that of developing software products for its customers? Or is software development a secondary function? Does this company's technology help thousands/millions of people? If I create features/products in this company will my work be beneficial to large numbers of people (or will they benefit a sector that I personally care about)?
Welcome back
Is that okey if I email you and ask something?
thank you :))
