M. Shawn Crahan "Clown" from Slipknot at Drake University: Pausing Selfishness Two Hours a Day

- In the 1990s, Shawn Crahan and Paul Gray founded Slipknot, a nine-member band that performs aggressive hard rock while wearing foreboding masks. As Slipknot's fame escalated, Crahan faced personal tragedy when he lost both parents. In 2010, six months after Slipknot completed a 153-stop tour at some of the largest venues in the world, Paul Gray died, leaving an open wound for the surviving eight members. During a lecture at Drake University, Crahan shares stories about the origins of the band, success, and how he is healing from the loss of those close to him.

Well, to be fair only like 2-3 songs on the album are actually about Paul.

Personally, when Clown talks, his ego is extremely high and behaves horrible. When Shawn talks, it's a whole different story.

I'm not a ridiculously huge fan but I love how chill the guys of this band are and how personable they are. They aren't your typical Hollywood douchey rock star that thinks they're better than everyone else. I really feel as though these guys keep themselves at a normal person's level even though they're so big. At least that's the vibes that I get from them.
My dad died a little over a year ago, and I feel exactly the same way Clown does in this video...what he is saying is completely true, spend time with your loved ones, don't put it off, don't be selfish, just fucking do it, now if you will excuse me i am going to go hangout with my mom!

I love videos like this that disproves the idea that "metalheads" all fall into a basket of stereotypical cliches when really most of them are the most real individuals you will ever cross paths with.

He was right, .5 The Gray Chapter is probably their best album yet, and most of the songs are about Paul. For a guy in a metal band who is known for going insane on stage, he's pretty smart. Talking about art and how he visits churches, it really puts a new perspective on everything.
Agreed!... watching their persona on stage will have most people think they are arses.. when in fact .. its just exactly that.. a persona

Damn this really put things into perspective for me.. I'm 29 my dad is 80 and my mom is 70, I can start to see them slowing down and missing a beat every now and then. I just came to the realization I'm always too busy to spend time with them, even when I'm in the same house I'm in my room playing video games or watching a movie I can't even be bothered to go into the living room and just sit down next to my dad and watch TV and talk about how our day has been going. With all that said, things are about to change I am vowing to spend two hours a day with my family from now on. Thank you so much to whoever posted this. It has truly opened my eyes to something that I need to see before it's too late. Cheers everyone and good night.
Ironically, Clown is one of the wisest people on the face of the earth. HUGE inspiration.

Such a Brilliant video, he is one of the craziest members of the band and has such intelligence also. You would never see Miley Cyrus or Nikki Minaj given talks like this to young people. When someone passes away it's always we should have called more, call now when you can.

Seriously. Who the fuck can take 9 members of a band and make sick ass music? No one! They did the impossible. Slipknot was one of the best metal bands in history!!!
Don't freak on me please cause I'm a Filthy Handed Maggot but Mushroomhead has been doing it for about as long as Slipknot. But hey they are both incredible bands that have lost a lot and have a lot to give :)

I did not know that Paul and Shawn started slipknot. My heart just skipped a beat knowing Shawn is feeling pain that intense. I got a feeling the next Slipknot album will not come soon but when it dose, I don't want to be ready for it. I want it to run me over like a Mac truck and I want it to drag me several feet until my limbs are ripped off.

I'm always left saying "wow that was Amazing" when I hear Clown talk.
I'm about to lose my dad but there's nothing I can do I'm to young to drive to see him and he never comes to get me I'm home schooled and he works only 3 days a week I can't drive my mom can't take me she works 7 days a week and I don't know what to do.......

slipknot guys, dont give a fuck in so many ways that their awsome. they dont give a shit what people think.. of their music, of the way they dress ( mask, overalls..) their agresive performance. I mean whaterver, they even give a fuck opening their hearts in universities ( corey Taylor Harvar and clown in Drake) They tell their story, and that's what really matters.

i am so guilty of this...i finally moved out of my rents house...and now i barely even call. and its only when i need something...i have 2 family tattoo's on me, and a slipknot tattoo...i praise family being so important to me, yet i go out and get hammard drunk all the time, smoke pot, and live in a world of me me me...and it ends today.
