Earlier this year, the bestselling author and Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman joined the ranks of the Dalai Lama, Michael Jackson, Albert Einstein and Kermit The Frog when he spoke at Oxford. In this in-depth and wide-ranging talk, Corey discusses his music, his book, and his philosophical approach to art, success, and life in general.

He's got his "I am smart" glasses.
6:05 "all hope is good" Corey's like "sigh"
Dan HomePhysique genius eye roll XD
Lol.
A little after 6:00 - she definitely says "All Hope Is Good" and you can see Corey roll his eye balls because she got it WRONG!!! LMAO.
"WE'LL FIND A WAY WHEN ALL HOPE IS GOOD!"
*Phone rings* "No, no, go ahead! You take that." (long pause) "Fair enough..."
Hahah, best moment of my day xD
+Viktor Eliasson (MisledSwede99) best moment in this part
Despite not graduating and graduating from high school nor going to college, Corey Taylor is very smart. Common sense and street smarts are strong in this one!!!
Very smart
yeah its still sad that people believe your education has to define who you are going to be forever, ive had over 20 years of schooling, 2 different colleges and university. I think i do okay in life personally but i have known many many people who had no time or interest for education outside of what was manditory to them and alot of them are a hell of a lot more smarter then me with no degrees behind them. You make the person you become people.
Awesome speech
Laughed at the part he said
Gotta take a piss, a quick smoke and piss off
Haha
"I wasn't built for the school system" truest words ever spoken!
I kinda laughed when she mentioned him being approached to joining Slipknot at his "night job"
TheWeekendarz the sex shop
I feel like we know everything about Corey at this point lol
You could tell how nervous he was at first haha
She defo says "all hope is good", im from england and there is no way she said "all hope is gone."
Except that she is Scottish.
if you watch you can see corey roll his eyes when she says it lol
Lol Corey's smile when she said all hope is good! XD
'All Hope Is Good'
Just think on that for a sec.
"All hope is good" anyone else see him roll his eyes when she said that? Come on woman.
Corey, you inspire me so much more than any other person I've ever had the privilege of listening to. Because of you I work hard to make the music I know and love and push myself to get better every single day. No matter where life leads either of us, I want you to know that I will always respect and admire the things you've done, and will do, and will continue to follow your career until I'm in the ground.
Watching this changed my life in 2011.
I wanted to be a musician so badly, nothing else appealed to me in the slightest.
I tried and tried and it just never worked out.
Looking back now, i realised i had the passion for it, but I honestly wasn't that good.
But I soon realised I was good at talking to people and demonstrating new ideas to others.
So I became a salesman, and have gone on to make a successful career out of it.
If i hadn't watched this, and continued to follow my passion instead of what I was actually good at, I would not have been successful and be in a much worse position than I am today.
Thank you Corey.
Corey, you are amazing! Your work is awesome!!
the opportunity I had to meet you here at the hotel in rio was unforgettable, thank you!
Corey is one of the most down to earth, smart, in touch with mankind people I've ever heard. He's a genius in music and life and should be heard. I'd love to talk to him one day
He is an awesome speaker. if Corey was my high school teacher, I would attend all his classes, finish up assignment and projects and passed the exams and maybe right now im studying medicine in Oxford.
I can't wait for part 2!
I wish this video was out when I was in college. I received my AA (2 year degree) with mostly music classes. I loved playing and always wanted to play in an orchestra, or some band that played in packed stadiums. I never could get good enough to go into the symphonic band at my college. Only beginning jazz class. I poured most of my life into practicing and never seemed to get past a certain point. Several jobs later, I'm working for a pest prevention company and love it. I'm pretty good at it too.
All hope is good, Amazing album
I'm 33 and received my Bachelor's a little over 4 years ago. I would not change having the degree for anything but not because I'm truly passionate about the field. The people I met while getting my degree are some of the best people I've even known and I would not give them up for anything, especially my professors. That said my degree is in a field that I honestly couldn't care less about. I thought it was going to be something I could be good at and although I'm competent in the field I have absolutely no interest in it whatsoever. If you are going to college or feel you have to go to college all I can tell you is pursue something you love and are good at. Don't let anyone tell you that in order to be successful you must go to college first; some of the richest men on this planet never went to college , or never finished their degrees.
if you don't chase your dreams what's the point of life.
CaptureTonight Don’t you get what he’s saying? If you focus on what you’re naturally good at you will reshape your dreams in accordance with your talents.
Jacques Dufeal Maurier What if the person is naturally bad at everything like myself? I agree with corey, but i think becoming good at something you admire is another option as well.
Roughshark, angular You are not naturally bad at everything, no one is. You have the depth of thought and the skill in language you have just demonstrated, so start there in your journey to discover your own talents.
Chasing your reality...you Chase dreams you wake up eventually and everything you chased slips away...life is for living dreams are just temporary escapes for the mind
All Hope is good? YOU HAD ONE JOB
and this is from a man that sings songs like Wait And Bleed, Surfacing...etc etc...oh Corey you sir are SUCH a inspiration :')
he is my hero! \m/ can't wait for other parts of the speeches
At the begining it looks like hes trying not to swear. I could listen to him all day talking i love his voice
God, I can listen to him talk all day.
All hope is good sounds like a cover album done by a Christian band
😂😂😂
I just thought the same thing
10:08 ...I really needed to hear this speech right now. I'm so glad I watched this video today.
i wish corey would do things like this more often. speeches and Q/A
His vocabulary is definitely impressive...I'm really proud to call him my Idol.
Ya I heard the boo boo from the chick, but ...... holy crap what an awesome talk from Corey. So approachable, so down to earth and so full of wisdom. He has lived more of a life than many of us put together due to the nature of his work, and we can all learn so much from this dude and vice versa. Totally loved this, can’t wait for the next parts 💜
His speech is amazing but I wish the camera man would chill out on the zooming and stuff.. kinda gives me a head ache. But I truly felt Coreys words and I think he had alot of valid points within this speech. Rock on Corey
I was following him up until the end of this video. When I was 16-21, I wanted more than anything to be a musician. A guitarist, songwriter, etc. After taking a few acting classes in college, I learned that I was more naturally talented at acting and theatrical performance. So according to Corey Taylor, I should be pursuing acting. But what about music? I still jam out in my basement and feel I'm God when I play. He says do what you enjoy at the end of this video. Contradicting his thesis.
And this... is why you are my idol corey ^.^
Can't wait to get your book for christmas, and can't wait to see slipknot live next year!
Corey, you are just.. so many types of awesome! And inspire me to actually want to do things in life instead of be depressed every damn day. Thank you corey!
I think I know what he means. I have a passion for music and when I was a teenager, I tried so hard to learn and master the guitar. I know my way around a guitar, but I couldn't master it... just wasn't me. Then I started drumming and found that it came naturally to me. 10 years of drumming and I haven't looked back.
This is a really good message he is trying to send to all of you, and all you care about is who's better than him and who's not. Why not actually watch the video and think about what he says because he's right.
i love coreys little laugh when she said all hope is good :P
I had to frewakout like a fangirl for five minutes and then five more minutes over the fact this was on YT and we're lucky
to see it
I love how he start off with : members of the jury i stand here accused...wait wrong speech XD
did she just say "all hope is good" nice work with the research
there
I know that thing he's holding is a microphone, but it looks like a flashlight.
Damm ! Corey motivates me to study ten times more than my mom !
Corey's eye roll at that had me in stitches :')
hes like a friend to me
This guy can do anything. I love this guy, he's deff an idol of mine.
This man gas been such an inspiration to me. A true fucking genius. Not only a musical mastermind but a very smart and intellectual man. Corey, you rock! \m/
She said all hope is good
This is great stuff !
0:25 - 'Thank you so much' - that is me ahah! Great speech an top bloke!
very inspirational and intelligent guy, love him and slipknot
read his book man. Its great.
all hope is good
Great lecture, can't wait to see the rest. I started university this year at Imperial College London, and everyone thinks Oxford is the best cos of it's history and shit, but when it comes to employability Imperial is no. 1.
most of time thing your good at, will be your hobby. So you still have to do something which you love, even if you dont love you must do it.
Damn. This is Amazing 🖤🤘
the way he started his speech was great XD
All hope is good
This is the most inspiring thing i've heard in a very long time!! Great man!
Do you think she got it wrong on purpose? I mean she is stood in Oxford saying "all hope is gone" which is very grim (such is slipknot) or "all hope is good" (which is what education is kind of roughly aiming for)?
@TheSankapan not alone... i am interested in my major in college but im terrible at it so im switching my major to something i know I can do... and do well... and by doing well i have no doubt that i will gain love for it
i have feeling thats what corey is trying to say... that doing something youre good at will give you success and a sense of accomplishment that will make you love what you do
You're so right Corey! you're a wise man just by saying what you just said. And it's all simple, it's basic stuff, but reality is simple
Corey rolled his eyes when she said 'all hope is good'
"All hope is good" omg
I caught that too, but his overall point is good. Too many people focus on improving their negatives instead of promoting their positives. It was kinda funny to hear him say "I do it because I love it" after saying the talent comes first, and love comes after.
6:07 Corey: You gotta be freaking kidding me.
LEGEND i remember the first time i ever heard slipknot they were on tfi friday 2000 or something it was liek nothing i had ever heard or seen since then i was hooked on them :D
All hope is good lawl
Yeah, I was thinking about it as he was talking. But it's still good.
I hope the people filming this take his words to heart...
All Hope Is good
Come to Wolverhampton University!!!
@Noxas4 Your comment is exactly right. What he chose as a premise was flawed because it's not consistent. I understood what he meant however. He was trying to get across that you need to evaluate your situation and do what you're good at rather than love at first. He made it pretty clear that he didn't graduate HS so I wasn't expecting a scholar here. He is really trying to help people.
6:05 did she say All hope is good
Haha exactly what I was thinking
wow you guys would rather discuss a random lady getting one word wrong, than the amazing speech Corey Taylor gave, kind of an insult to the video
I was about to comment on the whole, "All Hope Is Good", comment, but it looks like y'all handled it for me, lol.
dude he was at oxford awsome
corey's smirk when she says 'all hope is good' haha
6:04 "And their last release 'All Hope is Good'" 6:07 *Corey looks up in discust*
He's successful and has something important to say. Plenty of people go to Oxford and Cambridge and don't end up being successful...
"All Hope is Goooodnne~" 6:06
man This really impressed me, corey was so elocuent, this guy is incredible, and in the beginning was so funny xd
Off topic, however I just finished watching 'Rock of Ages' and couldn’t help but feel that perhaps as Corey’s film debut he could do a musical. I know that sounds insane at first, but think about it-every musical we have ever seen has been geared towards women. I imagine a massive musical that pulls in as many well know actors as 'Rock of Ages’ but includes the music of Stone Sour, Slipknot, and Corey Taylor!! How sick would that be! The first man’s musical-with a wicked story of course!
wow, what an intelligent man. corey rules! \m/
whens part 2 coming out?
ALLL HOOOPE IS GOOOOOOOOOD
she definetly said all hope is good
@NightmareCinemaChild The passion grew because he knew he was good at it, and he enjoyed and loved doing something that he knew he did well. My take on it at least.
All Hope is Good. Ooooh yeaaaa...
all hope is good......
I had to re listen to 'All Hope is Good' twice to make sure that I heard that mistake.
That's what I'm talking about though, being able to write lyric after lyric song after song. It's so hard if it's not your strong point, which is were the talent comes in.
I've writen lyrics for 2 bits of 2 songs I wrote, both in my uploads, Butterfly, and Lost and Found. Both one off's but I can't do it at the click of a finger like a lyricist can. THAT's where the talent comes in. Some people can, some poeple can't so that to me is, what a talent is.
thank you Corey. And fy to the all hope is good lady x
his t-shirt has my name on it
Wise words smart man .
"…and their last release, All Hope is Good." -Corey smiles, rolls eyes-
XD
@NightmareCinemaChild i actually agree with you bro, is it easier to learn to love what you're good at ? or get good at something you love ? and he said something alone the lines of "i would eventually play music anyway, because i love it so much" which is not the same as "even if i hated it, i would still do it because im good at it" Corey's still the friggin man though, i wonder how the rest of this pans out!
@NightmareCinemaChild he developed a love for he, which he speaks about. he said if you continue to do what you are good at, you will eventually grow to love it and have a passion for it. he had a talent of music and he grew to love it. no contradiction
