Hey guys, a few corrections, as per usual:
1- I just spent a bit of time testing Timerra's Sandstorm and I can CONFIRM it is NOT True Damage. The way the skill works is that her defense is multiplied by 1.5 and then replaces her strength stat entirely. After that, you can add her weapon might on TOP of that strength, and that's how the damage calculation works. The way it's explained in the video is CORRECT. If Timerra has 20 defense, her strength becomes 30, and if using a 5 might weapon then her overall physical attack becomes 35 and then it's compared against the enemy's defense stat.
2- Diamant's Build growth in the video should be 20%, no idea why it's showing as 0, I think that might have been an export error, my bad! Looks like this also happened to Alcryst and Fogado as well, they both have a build growth of 10%.
3- I'm aware Alear's divine dragon class has Engage perks, I didn't go through each one because there are a TON of engage rings, and then 5 bracelets too so that would've taken years, but yes, he gets nicer effects with each ring if you want to explore than option. I'm not saying the class is BAD, just that there ARE alternative side grades to it!

It may just be Fogado just counter attacking, and deleting enemies since I skip alot of combat, but I think he still triggers 'Back at You' damage even if he dodges, can't confirm

Timerra is really a weird unit because her design, appearance, personality, background, growths and even class; none of them lend themselves to her being a tank. I honestly don't know what Intsys was trying to do here. Like you, I was also really disappointed, but after disliking Fogado on the spot, I decided to try and make at least 1 Solm royal work. I snatched that Ike ring off immediately for Diamant and gave her Eirika. No stat items or anything and *somehow* she is doing great? I have her as some sort of doubling tank. Sandstorm basically, like most of these unique skills except Luna, doesn't matter 90% of the time. She's basically a better Alfred with 1 less mov.
Note: something I learnt recently, skills like Sword Power and Bow Focus do NOT apply when a ring is equipped. They *must* be inherited. It's a real shame since they cost soo much SP to unlock. I'm confused by that IntSys decision

@@degreeskelvin3025 Given how easy it is to reach level 5 of the power skills through bond training, +10 damage to your 3 already strong melee units using already strong emblems, by mid-game, would be broken as hell. As much as that would be kinda awesome, it's also pretty ridiculous when you think about it.

A thing you didn't mention in the bios are the class types. For example Céline class is mystic which ignore terrain when using magic which is something that Ivy and Hortensia' personal classes as well as mage knight lacks.
Also I do believe the Levin Sword ignores terrain when Céline uses it since since it's a magic weapon as well as certain engage weapons like Blutgang

I hear a lot about Timerra and Ike, but personally I like pairing Timerra with Eirika and an evasion-engraved Killer Lance. She dodges everything, and will proc a crit/Sandstorm frequently enough that she becomes a wonder enemy-phase unit. Just throw her out there, especially on pillars/forest/whatever, and enemies will flock to her. What doesn't die can be swept up next turn.

    • @gaspardp7314
      @gaspardp7314 Рік тому +2

I use a similar strategy! I gave her lance agility +5 since her crits are much less reliable than Sandstorm, and gave her both a slim lance +5 and the S level lance. She's a sort of "omni-tank". She has more or less equal speed and defence so she tanks what she doesn't avoid and avoids what she doesn't tank. Her res is okay enough to not get killed too fast by magic, and she doesn't get doubled too often. She's the rare case of a GOOD balanced unit

For the [REDACTED] last unique class you missed a lot of things. Ditch their unique tome as it weighs them down so much and stick to their unique dagger because it does magic damage and pairs well with their monstrous magic stat. Also, because it's a Dragon class you can do stuff like throw Corrin or Camilla on them to have access to every Dragon Vein ability at once and turn them into the ultimate support unit that isn't everyone's favorite dancer.

I think some of these classes have weird stats because they expect you to be using emblem rings to increase their strengths. They basically account for stat differences from common emblem rings you would use for each respective character. Like Ivy, she is super slow but Lynn is meant to make a character faster. Nothing else really complements between the two, but I think that's the direction they were taking these wonky growths. Same with Timerra, she gets Ike who gets defense boosts and gets raised defenses as the character takes damage.

    • @neog8029
      @neog8029 Рік тому

That would make sense. Although it leaves Diamont with Roy as a strange outlier since Roy does nothing to patch up Diamont's skill. I guess if I stretched my mind, Roy gives more damage and more damage means healing more from Sol? It be a better roundabout justification.

    • @scottserage9022
      @scottserage9022 Рік тому

@@neog8029 Yeah, not going to perfectly shore up weaknesses for everyone. Roy helps keep Diamont alive until he can get off a Sol with Hold Out. As you said, being stronger means a better heal from Sol but overall Roy doesn't help Diamont statwise; I'd say the pairing is just to help Diamont hit harder and survive an attack until he can get a lucky Sol.

There is a viable Timerra crit build that leans into Sandstorm hard with an upgraded Brave Lance. You can get both Sandstorm and Crit to proc at the same time. But even if you don't, quadding something gives you lots of proc chances such that her damage output becomes pretty damn consistent. Give her Sigurd for more Dex + Momentum and Canter for good times.

I'm surprised you have such mixed feelings on Timera's class. Sandstorm IMO is the 2nd best unique class skill behind Luna. It adds True Damage and 150% of her Def is massive. I paired her up with Ike who passively grant a ton of Defense as well. One time I was enemy phasing with her and she was facing an armor knight using a non-refined killer lance. She was gonna do a pathetic 3 damage, however, she did proc a crit. Now normally that would do a measly 9 damage but Sandstorm triggered and that true damage is also calc'd into criticals, so it went from a projected 3 to in the 90s. The only drawback I can see is its fairly infrequent proc rate. This is all coming from my maddening run, so I recommend giving Emblems like Ike or Hector which really bolster's her Def stat.
Also, can we all just say Ivy's Grasping Void skill is the most useless thing to have happened. Why didn't they make it based off her own Magic rip

I've had Ike glued on Timerra even since her recruitment chapter and it works fairly well. Ike gives a lot of Defense (and Resistance), which makes Sandstorm hurt a lot. Add access to axes and swords and Great Aether and she can sweep many crowds while taking minimal damage (which hey, it's free crit chance with Wrath) and perhaps breaking or oneshotting someone.

Use Chrom S bond ring for additional 5% (making potentially her trigger rate up to 60%) and have her Killer Lance +5 with + Crit engraving and you have a killer machine
Using skills to boost her Def stat also allows her to be a mini tank to hold a line alongside with other tankers.

I would also like to say that Liberation +5 isn't that bad of an investment early as it has 11mt which is only 1 less then a silver sword, it's super cheap to upgrade, and it ways way less (4wt compared to SS 11). So it can even help fish for faster engage bar gain.

no, just because Fists uses both doesn't mean it's better to go into that class. if it used both stats additively, maybe, but since it's only the average of the two, there's no advantage to Fists in terms of stats. just compared to Vidame, Base Mag will drop 4 pts and you now have to average her Str and Mag, which is lower than just the raw Mag. the 5% Mag Growth she'd gain as Martial Master won't make up for that difference. on top of that, Martial Master has 4 less base Speed... the skill doesn't contribute to damage either and locked to one range. and lastly, there's far more enemies with higher Def than Res, so it's better to be hitting Res more often than not

Ike's resolve (especially if you can get resolve+) is a beast on her since that's 11 more damage on her sandstorm procs as well as making her harder to kill. Another idea I would recommend would be to make her a General for a while which can help her a lot by giving her a bit better strength growth and jacking up her defense to ensure the sandstorms when she goes back to picket hit like trucks.

Couple of things that weren't mentioned: Celine - Vidame is one of the two classes in the game that lets you access to 3 weapons, with the other one being high priest. Swords can be quite valuable to utilize the break mechanic with and set up kills for others and this game has no shortage of axe enemies/bosses. Overall my experience with Celine on Maddening fixed growth was that she's a very flexible unit and she's really good at either setting up kills (because a lot of enemies in this game have low res compared to def) or just kill with Ignis proc while also balanced enough to not get one shot'd compared to some of the other mages in this game. Alear and Veyle are the only 2 units who can utilize Corrin's Dragon Vein to whatever extent they want and having the ability to set up the map by setting 10 tiles on fire while also create 9 tiles of fog or 6 tiles of ice pillars can alleviate a lot of pain during the enemy phase. I feel like the devs made these skills to proc off dex is to balance out the game in a way where you won't be completely relying grinding and unit skills to succeed. In retrospect, some of these skills can easily break the game if the proc rate is too high just like how you could break Awakening with Galeforce and Lifetaker etc.

They're the only classes that get an Omni boost with Byleth, they're the only classes that get to pick their terrain with Corrin and Camilla. [REDACTED]'s unique class skill also means if they have Byleth or Micaiah's rings then they can refresh their engage meter without an emblem tile, combat, or a skill slot for favorite food. I realized something huge that dramatically changed how powerful Alfred can be. That is the fact that Lunar Brace can transform to Solar Brace and Eclipse Brace when inherited on other characters outside of Eirika. So long as Eirika changes to day or is engaged. The reason why this is important for Alfred is because healing and health are both incredibly important for his Golden Lotus skill to be useful.
A very similarly functioning Laguz Fiend synergizes with health and healing in the same way, but it has self-synergy with Great Aether since it is a healing skill. Everyone knows the efficacy of Laguz Fiend and while Golden Lotus has a dramatically lower proc rate and doesn't even activate off of magic damage, the concept is still identical. That being said, there aren't many healing skills. Unyielding is useful, but it is clutch if you use it by itself as Alfred can very well just die before he can get any healing from it. I always thought Solar Brace was inaccessible since you could only inherit Lunar Brace, but once I realized it was actually possible to very easily switch Lunar Brace over to Solar Brace, a ton of strategies just open up.

This means it's basically Luna, which you've already said was good, except you have a better chance of buffing it and it's on a melee unit. What i did with timerra was to give her an engraved brave lance withthe roy ring for more consistent attack.
If you take into account her pretty high speed then you can consistently quad hit and proc sandstorm at least twice. Felt great as a kind of bruiser with her good defence stats

It's worth noting that Alear's unique class skill stacks with the engage meter reduction you get with any given ring you have a high enough bond level with allowing you to re-engage even faster -- but even then you have to kill about four units and you can only charge the meter whole not engaged. so if you start the mission, pop your engage, no matter how much devastation you visit upon your enemies you won't gain any charge while the ring is actually active. Meaning it will still be about seven turns before you can use it again. Three for the engage time and four for the number of enemies you have to kill after that. You might get some more kills off of counterattacks, but this is harder to control and if you're getting focus-fired hard enough to charge your engage meter back up again, you'll probably just die anyway.
Overall, even with Alear's unique skill charging up your engage meter simply takes too damn long to be useful and if a fight isn't decided after you've engaged the first time, it's probably an extended map with tiles that will let you reset your meter for free anyway.

I don't if it's just or I have insane that I don't know about but in my run Timerra's Sandstorm kept activating for me which instantly earned her a permanent spot on my main team. I paired her with Ike, gave her a Killing Lance +5, and a +3 defense skill, she basically became a crit talk and was averaging about 200 damage every 2 out three fights.

Ivy's Grasping Void helped me beat that level 20 sage during Sigurd's Paralogue. I had her paired with Corrin, lured that sage to a corner just below the castle, and locked that sage's movement down over the course of several turns (the corner also had one of those Engage meter recharge spots, so I had several turns to work with).
And that sage had a huge Magic stat, so Grasping Void actually did something.
But that fight was definitely reminiscent of when Julius + Ishtar show up in that one chapter in Genealogy.

My Timerra is amazing, I gave her the Lyn ring so she could proc Sandstorm on Astra Storm and I ended up with a physical tank that always doubles. I'm running her with Build +4 and a Brave Lance, that way she has four chances to proc sandstorm in a row thanks to Alacrity. She's definitely one of my best units.

I used Timerra kind of successfully as a tank dodger with Eirika, who has the avoid lance skill. Then you can inherit avoid or build and speed is really good so she doubles with Brionac.

Cast in point, as a magic base class, she makes better use of Celica and Micaiah. Celica will boost Veyle’s Magic and give Tome Precision. Micaiah will also give Veyle more utility if you don’t plan to use her on the frontlines.

For lols give Alcryst a +5 mini bow and just use him as an avoid tank vs fliers.
Also flame lance timerra is the way to go. Sandstorm goes off of def 150%. the attack is magic and thats vs res instead of def which on average is lower than def. So... you bust through most tanks.
Her mag and str growths are equal. it entirely depends on the class you give her to choose which stat to prioritise. But yes as picket, you might need to cultivate hers somewhere else.

In my hard playthrough, I absolutely loved Timerra: maybe I was lucky for her Def growth, but combined with Ike, she was a pretty tanky frontliner who could counterattack from range 1-2 (javelin +5) for decent to massive damage id Sandstorm activated.

Alfred doesn’t really “fall off” he’s getting doubled basically immediately and is at significant risk of being one rounded even significantly early. Like he’s very likely to die in the 3rd map he’s in. To even use him you have to forgo Sigurd+Louis and Sigurd+ Louis is so strong having a single nothing unit to have Sigurd+Louis is better then Sigurd+Alfred since Alfred certainly can’t chase after the thief on his own with Sigurd he’ll die from all the fire he’s taking on the enemy’s back ranks. If anything he becomes better with time if you can get him into general going from undisputed worst unit of your squad early game to decent. He’s like a villager but unlike a villager he doesn’t become dominant if you put the effort in. Similar curve of viability if trained to Arthur in fates except arthur’s significantly better early.

My Timerra on hard mode ended up being a very competent tank. It's not obvious at first but she synergises very well with the Ike Emblem she comes with. Ike gives her Resolve and access to the Defense Skills which both boost Sandstorm damage. Defensively she took very little even from most enemies even 0 from some, and doesnt get doubled as often as classes like general because of her decent speed. Offensively, her good Dex and Speed combined with Ike's wrath and Killer lance meants she usually doubled with a high chance to either crit or proc Sandstorm, meant she one rounded most enemies even if the damage prediction wasnt anywhere close to finishing them off

Timerra is a monster with the DLC Hector emblem. He supercharges her defense and makes her an insane enemy turn unit. Heavy Attack fixes her incredibly low build, and Quick Reposte still lets her double enemy initiated attacks at full health. Don't sleep on this pairing if you have the DLC!

  • @robby6382

Timerra is, in my opinion, most likely a much better candidate for Lynn, as she also has the ability to have each of her hits trigger sandstorm, but has the big difference of making her guarenteed deal more damage off of the proc rather than Luna being rather middling from my experience. Lynn also patches up the biggest issue Timerra has as a unit which is her build, as Speed taker on top of Lynn's general bonus to speed will make Timerra double regardless of weapon weight, and that weight can be transferred into damage with Heavy attack being inheritable, as well the fact that she (along with any of the other lords) can utilize Dex +5 from Lucina in order to make sandstorm more consistent, however, this is more so a budget bandaid. She is definately really good
something else that you might want to consider is that at base even though her strength is only roughly 15 or so at lvl 5 Picket, she basically hits as if she had 2x strength since she has a little over 20 defense at level 5 as well, and there are many things that you can do in the game on your end to make sure her defense is high so that she deals the most damage possible with her procs as apposed to Luna being a "some times they will have less defense" this means that you can much more reasonably see it as a second crit chance in my eyes. Note that Sharena's bond ring has fortify defense, and Tiki has a defense and res buff that applies to the unit it is on on top of adjacent units. Even though luna is more consistent in terms of Alcryst having the highest dex growth, again, Timerra has more a more consistent bonus to make comparatively, so I feel like it is better for those reasons since luna is most impactful against units you probably shouldn't be using Alcryst to attack anyway
TLDR: I believe that Sandstorm is more impactful but a little less consistent than Luna

Fogoato is kind of the hard carry of my hard mode playthrough. I gave him the magic bow and he shreds armored units and can already kill most others. He has alacrity and canter on him to hit and run and take no damage and honestly, I haven't completed the game yet but he is MVP more than literally any other bow unit I have ever used including Claude which is mind boggling. Diamont and Ivy though are my favorite units and both have been very good to me. It's sad their personal skills are so unlikely to trigger but I am getting more than enough mileage out of them just because of their growths honestly so I don't really see playing through the game and not using them.

The thing with Céline’s name is the accent on the “e” it indicates that the name is stressed on that e, while the standard English version of the name has no accent. It’s the same with the wird “naïveté”. Where the accent over the indicates that the the “e” is audible and stressed. Many languages like Greek, Irish and French make use of accents and once one understands how they work it makes learning and pronouncing these languages much easier that languages that don’t have accents.

Completely agree with this take. A lot of the special classes have that awkward dex scaling which forces you to throw in the Dex+5 skill to leverage any use out of them.
While it isn't bad for some of them, cause frankly they need the extra hit/crit rate, it sucks that you need to sacrifice a skill slot when there are so many other better skill combos in this game. All for a marginally better chance at triggering their skill and increasing hit/crit rate which is arguably more important. Alcryst is the only one in this regard that felt satisfying to use with how easily he can trigger the skill.
The trigger chance only gets reasonable with Dex+5 and the Chrom bond ring to increase the trigger chance +11% (Chrom gives +1 Dex). However again, that's another gargantuan sacrifice of not having an emblem ring or another better bond ring. It helps but sacrificing a skill slot and ring for RNG is painful.

Timerra has honestly been putting in tons of work for me. Alot of people pair her with Ike but imo Leif is perfect for her.
The build bonus helps keep her Spd stat high with how heavy spears are. Her build caps at 12 and 17 is just enough to wield Brionac with no penalty. Plus more HP is always nice and the Def adds to Sandstorm damage. Her being Backup also adds the 10% free crit bonus on Adaptable too which works great with Wrath and the free Vantage.
Her dex also caps at 50 which makes Sandstorm a decently reliable proc. It really helps boost the damage of Quadruple Attack.

Something that I actually love is something you mentioned disliking in this video -- all these unique skills that trigger off of Dex. Putting aside the low Dex caps on some of these classes, I love this idea, because it means two things -- 1) You don't have to memorize a ton of random methods of activation for different abilities like in the Tellius games, they're all pretty reliably Dex and 2) It makes Dex not a dump stat with massive diminishing returns like it has been in pretty much every other Fire Emblem game where as long as you have enough Dex/Skill to hit, you're fine and if you're in a class that gives a crit bonus having some extra is helpful, but most of your crit bonus is probably coming from your weapon for most of the game. In this game these skills are essentially a secondary crit condition based entirely on Dex % which makes Dex always valuable as a stat even when your hit rates are fine.

Just a bit of theory crafting, what if you put Timerra in a class that has higher def or dex growth and then swapped back to Picket? I found some good mileage with her inheriting Dual Assist and a refined javelin, but I think that's more of a result of her being a backup unit rather than her personal performance.

Timerra was an absolute beast for me. I just kept her with ike, and then Roy at the end and she was a great secondary tank. Brave lance increases chances to proc sandstorm. She fell off for me at the final two levels but her weapon was somewhat weak compared to the others on my team to be fair. Overall she was definitely in my top 5 best units overall
