I agree with you on my Hard mode runs as well! Most of these's I found out before the information like this video came out such as the Liberation upgrade and Marth Engraving which I make a point of doing EVERY new playthrough to assure the weapon is pretty much the only thing I need for Alear along with anything like a Bane Sword and Arts later on promotion! Next to verifying I wasn't crazy or made a mistake with the ones I did find! I got to learn an extra few "I didn't know about" but glad to see your enjoying the game! F the "Maddening/Lunatic is the only way to play!" haters! I switch between Normal Classic for a casual experience ever so often and Hard Classic on major runs! I only touch maddening/lunatic once and never again. I feel Hard is a perfect balance and "Normal" mode for me! funny that I use to play every FE from the GBA and beyond on normal till Radiant Dawn tricked me into playing it on Hard Mode, and now I can't play any FE on any difficult BUT Hard (Or in the old ones Normal since Hard mode in those games is what we know as "Lunatic/Maddening" LOL! I play to have fun, not to be miserable to prove a point to idiots that don't matter in the long run!) I'm enjoying the DLC as well (Hope the next batch comes soon! I just want ALL the Emblem Bracelets before my new playthrough so I can get the best of them, those maps are REALLY harsh if you go into them with the enemies in Promotion classes at or PAST Lvl 5/25 where they have class skills) But man are the Emblem Bracelets great and they shine quite well after Ch 10/11, though early on their good because you don't have much anyway at early game! (Almost makes the bond rings meaningless!)
Oh my god, your videos are so helpful. I already finished the game once on hard mode, so i didn't REALLY need to follow your advices until now, but since i'm starting my maddening run without DLC soon, i want to learn a bit more about the game
it's so funny how they just said lets make magic the best thing you could possibly do in this game. i have used levin swords and radiant bows on the last chapters on 10 magic units and they still do more damage than using physical weapons with way higher strength. but gatcha is king so the heroes weapons are kinda to good for being free starting equipment. i have done multiple run and every time use them till the last chapter thats just how good they are especially nóatún as a light weight silver axe
I caught a mistake at 4:05. You said "Magic is king" when you actually should've said "Magic is everything" to reference all of the hilarious Reinhardt (Fire Emblem: Thracia 776) memes that came from his appearance in Fire Emblem: Heroes where he says "Magic is everything". I think that the people who know about that reference would've really enjoyed that reference and would've felt cooler than the people who didn't recognize that reference. I started playing Heroes (after getting stuck past the prologue because I didn't have the storage for the later patches) for the FEH weapon pack in Engage, and I was also thrown when it wasn't a Reinhardt reference (it helps that 5* Reinhardt's availability is amazing, because he's the reward for Heroes' Path level 5)
I think losing the ability to engrave with the lost emblem rings post 10 was a really cool design decision, I thought alot about what to invest in pre-ch10 on my second playthrough of the game. It reminded me of preparing the gen1 units for the gen2 units in fe4 in a way.
Into the mid-game, I've found Silver Daggers to be the strongest. At just +1 they have 12 might. That's the same as a Silver Sword at base but with 4 less weight, and the ability to hit 2 range. And keep in mind, before +5, all daggers increase by 2 might every upgrade. A +5 Silver Dagger has the same might as a +5 Steel Axe.
And it's nearly half the weight, at base it's 7 Wt, and I think with refines it becomes 6 maybe 5. So you barely lose any speed either from wielding it
Ive been a bigger fan of the steel daggers because their cheaper to upgrade and they give that +10 crit. Ngl, i feel like the devs just wanted to make Yunaka OP. Thats the only way i can explain daggers being OP, coverts being dodge tanks with basically 0 effort, the Micaiah engrave, and her having a dedicated chapter built to make her shine, literally.
@@degreeskelvin3025 I think they wanted thieves to still standout, but because they don't have the usual "thief utility" of other games they just gave them really good combat.
I swear, my Citrinne with the Olwen Ring and a +5 Thunder tome was better than most actual 'Engage' ring units. She absolutely shredded and the number of times she would just delete a boss' health bars with a refresh or two was giddying.
@@checkerhat327 I used this strategy with Ivy and it was fantastic. She has high magic and you get flying 6 move to put her over water and flier terrain after attacking. The canter also helps you position her for dancing and you can get the benefit from her personal skill which can help with thunder's lower hit chance against bosses.
I would also recommend Sigurd's Engraving for Libération as well, as the +20 Avo you get for it does go a long way especially if u get yourself Avo +10/+15. The +5 Dodge doesn't do much, and the 90 hit the weapon comes with is more than good enough and doesn't need upgrading.
Love these helpful Engage vids, there's so many options in the game i get analysis paralysis. If you could give tips on Emblem Ring pairings that would be amazing!
A somewhat quick answer: any ring that completes the units personal skill (example: panette and ike are powerful together and with vantage++ skill bought with sp makes her a killing monster.
My recommendations, Yunaka or Zelkov with Corrin Sigurd on General (although I’ve been liking Edelgard on Great Knight, but I’m assuming no DLC) Lucina on Alear for 90% bonded shield, or if you don’t like that (like me), Lucina on a Wolf Knight has great range of effect and the chain dagger attacks DO poison. Allowing you to poison enemies who your wolf knight would do 0 damage against I like Micaiah in Seadall, gives him more utility, but I also see Sigurd as a good option. I looooove Pannette Ike. Lyn turns nearly any units into a top tier, but I recommend Alcryst in specific for ungodly range in Astra Storm and the fact that Luna can proc on every hit of Astra Storm. Personally, I like having Byleth on a non combat support unit. On my current maddening playthrough that is the flier cleric you get at the same time as Byleth. Marth on Alear is bread and butter I actually think Celica is pretty meh, throw her in any mage Lief… sucks, but on my Hard run, I used him well on Diamant while inheriting Ike’s skills. Roy is also pretty meh imo, but he works on literally everyone, so just give him to however doesn’t have a ring yet. Erika is also kinda meh imo, but I think she has a surprising great niche in 4 hit Brave weapon users like Kagetsu. Then for DLC Hector on Timerra Camilla on Alear until you get Marth back, then put Camilla on the obvious replacement I’m doing the funny Martial Master Jean Soren build, a bit finicky, but working Edelgard can go on anyone, but I say longbow users and classes that can have axes and lances at the same time are best I have Tiki on high priest Anna, but Tiki can go in nearly anyone. Aaaaaand that should be it. Also Olwen is godtier, I love her on Lindon
Hi, I know this video is about Forging but I got the Olwen Ring later in my first playthrough and it was completly nuts. Cannot wait for my first Maddening run with K N O W L E D G E. Also, do we know what each animals gives us? Maybe in the end it was Camel Emblem all along.
Finished my first playthrough on hard and it was way too easy. Was also excited to do a maddenning run but now that I am a good way into it (like chapter 12) I am discovering it is way harder than "hard." I'm contemplating quitting since I can barely make any progress (don't get any crafting materials so I can't upgrade any of my weapons and get so little xp and sp that I barely have any skills). I'm wishing there was a difficulty in between like hard+ or something!
@@geran4473 Fair point. I am on chapter 25 now and my problem was that I was trying to do the paralogues and skirmishes as soon as they appeared. Once I realized I needed to wait a while they were doable. I still feel like Engage maddening is way harder than 3 Houses maddening (I was hoping for a maddening+ in that case)!

Also I did do some effective stuff in engage maddening, like only stable dogs etc. I also had the DLC, so got tiki and 3h ring.
Notes for DLC players! As you can get the Bracelet Emblems before Chapter 10 its worth noting what the engraves do for those with the expansion pass. The biggest one of note is Rivals, Edelgards Engraving. At the cost of 1 Weight you get a minor boost to mt, hit, crit, avo and dodge. Making the weapon slightly heavier for a lot of positive bonuses is worth the trade off. Rivals synergizes with Daggers well due to thier low weight not causing the engrave to slow the user down alongside its boost to mt and crit (especially on the steel dagger) Unfortunately I cant say much for Dragons, Strength, Acumen and Revelation. Dragons, Strength and Acumen give the same general bonus of increasing mt at the cost of decreasing avo and dodge. Avo being decreased is not an issue on tanks or an Ike user, but the decrease in dodge (up too -30%!) Will add a lot of variance in your survivability. Pair it with Eirika or a unit with High Luck. Revelations, Camilla, also has the same general set up as the above, but with an extra 30 crit. Its a gamble that gives both you and the enemy crit, but still may be too high variance to feel safe. Granted, all of the above Engraving also Synergize with Thunder too. Magic is Everything!
Bows, especially the Longbow, could synergize with some of those as well. A loss in Avo and Ddge is way less impactful in a 2 range weapon after all. Specifically, I am thinking of the Camilla engrave on a Killer Bow could lead to some wacky results
Thunder/Elthunder/Thornon I think are hands down the best candidates for the Radiance engraving (Ike’s). Weight isn’t a factor since the weapons can’t normally double, so min-max the Mt and your mages shouldn’t be getting hit anyway
@@Blitz_Spencer I give it to my thunder+4, you have to be careful though, because whoever wields it is absolutely gonna get doubled. An alternative is to give it to a Smash weapon like the Silver Greataxe that you intend to give to a General if you use one (or whoever is using the Ike Emblem tbh, it's kinda funny to see Great Aether delete a group of wyverns without even needing effective weaponry)

I know this is post chapter 10, but I've found the fates engraving on a refined Peshkatz insane (at least on hard). Consistent +60% crit rate, and easy 100% avoid

yeah its freaking great. i was worried it wouldn't be worth since u get a steel in ch 10, but that refine really takes it over the edge and synergizes so well with Yunaka.
Gonna throw another one out there: Tomahawks. Refined and engraved for a bit of accuracy and your axe users will just shred anything on enemy phase. My Anna 1 rounds pretty much anything with her high speed allowing her to double almost anyone
maybe it was just my FEH bias, but the FEH weapons for linking your account are pretty darn good for early game and its really easy to do. I never regretted getting a couple refines on them
The feh weapons really do feel like cheating, especially in the early game. High might low et and cheap refines make them better to ttphan steel and even silver weapons and you get them super early

Some might have questions on what late game weapons are worthwhile, specifically the S rank weapons. The only worthwhile S ranks to invest in are: Brionac, Cinquedea, and Nova. S ranked weapon for sw/ln/ax/bw at max investment are 2mt higher and 10 crit higher than their silver counterpart max forged but cost way more silver ore and gold; however unlike with the sowrd, axe and bow, the Brionac is 1-2 range, the Cinquedea will actually be 3Mt higher and 20 crit higher than the silver dagger, and Nova is a brave tome.
Venomous is really great too if you can manage to get it somewhat early it cost Firene lv 5 to get but right out of the bat its the same might as a Silver Greatlance +5 (34 mt) with equal hit rate(80) and +10 crit that can also apply poison and with just +1 forge(3 silver + 3000 G) its already stronger then the Silver could ever be. Its really strong in particular with the Sigurd ring for powerful overides and and Eirika thanks to the Eclipse Brace + Smash weapons combo that give enemies the vantage effect but minimizes that negative by healing you on your counterattack and in general its an incredibly strong enemy phase weapon.
how tf do you people get to +5 anything but an iron??? as I chose Lunatic setting to engage my suffering chamber for this amazing game, it was my choice to willingly stumble through and make up for it with tactical acumen. But one truth from the start of this video was investment, I went broke and got succer punched by Firenese Charity, so I couldnt bring up Brodia’s level for greater quantities of ingots until after the castle funds, so I was left starved for BOTH Gold & Ore! Now I just gotta make do with what Ive got. sorry I couldn’t keep up with your initial livestream choops, I enjoy optimizing the hell out of minigames like somniel (except the Monastery, uuugh) so Im very slow, and excessively deliberate and plan out turn by turn for each map. but it was really fun joining your twitch community! maybe once Ive finally finished endgame, lunatic, I would love to join the next livestream you’ll set up for Engage.
Hey now, the Celica engrave has its purpose. Leif's Adaptable for some reason has a real hard-on for Dodge so the Celica engrave will rig a weapon much higher in Leif's priorities than it would otherwise be. I mean the Byleth engrave does that too but maybe you want the Byleth engrave on a good unit instead of whoever's left over and got stuck with Leif
@@Izanagi-Arsene see the funny part about that is that when you get broken you lose your enemy phase offense, but Leif also makes you lose your enemy phase offense on his own already- Genuinely I think one of the better uses for Leif would be to just use him for his Avo+20 for Covert units when engaged and deliberately keep his Bond at Lv9 by not getting the B convo, that way the Light Brand doesn't get in the way of your counterattack damage. Sniper can use him as an on-demand Close Counter (and Alcryst's Luna can proc on each hit of Quadruple Hit so it might even do actual damage sometimes) and Thief can be funny and carry 1-range crit knife with a Ddg forge with them that they will then always switch to when attacked at 1 range (well except against lances because of the Killer Axe, but hey) (and then sometimes you might get some extra pocket change out of it I suppose. I've tried using Anna, wasn't impressed, and can't imagine it's any better when it only works on your engage attack)
A bit closer to midgame but some weapons are really really worth upgrading types/tiers on for example Iron Greatlance which you can buy in Chapter 8 can be fairly cheaply upgraded to a Silver Greatlance with 30+ MT absolutely crushing things for the next 10-15 chapters. You can use the same technique to get Crit weapons very early on and begin upgrading them too which is also worthwhile since they last the entire game and are top investments for refining too.
Thank you once again for the killer content choops, it may be a little late for it to benefit my first run as I am nearing the finale and had to figure out a good chunk of this the hard way, but it will certainly help on subsequent runs, and it will help my siblings who are starting the game (they are at Ch 6 right now. Thank you as well for the bond ring guide, I saw it a little bit after playing through Ch 10-11 sadly, for which it would've been most useful, but I got a lot of value from that knowledge and boy have these Olwen and Claude rings been paying off.
I know for me one of my favorite tools in my run was when I did Sigurd Engrave on a Killer Bow. Got that to +5 and the crit rate with it was monstrous. 12 Might in the end isn't the worst thing ever, especially when you should have around or over 50% chance to crit using it.
What I do is Ellfire tome, use Micaiah Engrave and give it to my Anna, she will kill everything and dodge everything and some times give me money. It works.
@Linkachu HQ I tried it with Alcryst but figured that Emblem Lyn is better on slower but stronger units like Etie, even with luna procs my Etie is just better than my Alcryst, not sure if he got STR screwed or not (I'm playing on maddening so I don't think that's the case)
@@xSimplyChronox if its a first playthrough maddening then everyone's got forced fixed growths so Alcryst and Etie are turning out how they're expected to turn out. this excludes any special investement you do so your Etie sounds better since she's prob been your most invested unit. so her fixed levels prob got a lot of strength compared to Alcryst who'd prob get more dex for Luna activations. if its the random growths thats unlocked after you beat the forced fixed growths first playthrough of maddening, then thats deff a maybe, cuz fixed growths will often have empty levels before a good stat increase every few levels. while random grwoths'll have at least 1-2 every levels
This video makes me feel stupid, I think I +5 every Iron Weapon I got early game and screwed myself for later chapters. SOMEHOW im on Chapter 26 now and jesus christ, lord save me 🙏
I really like micaiah's engrave on a short knife, that one has a higher base dodge and avoid than the rest of the knives. When you get corrin you can give it to yunaka or replace it with the corrin engraving, but both make her a stupid dodge tank that won't be hit by anything.
Max Liberation with Marth's Engraving turned the thing into a RIGHTEOUS weapon that left more slots for Alear to equip other weapons! Basically it gives the sword the MT of a Silver Sword, with the weight of an Iron Sword (meaning if you been getting some good blessings from SPD, Alear will be doubling! Take note Liberation WT is Alear's STARTING Build/Bld! Meaning you'll never suffer a Spd DROP THAT AN actual Silver Sword would do to Alear if that Bld doesn't grow! I honestly give Alear a Wyrmslayer to deal with the occasional Wyvern Knight! Also don't forget killing foes with Liberation means the Engage meter will be filled an extra bit! Seeing that Alear is the only one (well their personal classes anyway) with the Dragon Battle Style, this makes sense as their meant to be engaging almost a large amout of times in the battle (since they bring out the best of the emblems special traits and abilities! Hell even the Magic focus Celica, Soren and Micaiah are useful if Alear's Mag stat is good enough, nothing one or two Spirit Dust Cocaine can't make useful!) Happy with this guide video though! Some like the Liberation example I found out on my own and happy to see validated! and the Dogs! The moment I learned the first three dogs gave me Steel and Silver Ingots, I just "kidnappe....I mean ADOPTED" every dog I could find to have them all over the Stable. But others I didn't know like the donations (I barely touched it in fear of money till I learned how to gather it smartly around CHAPTER 21!) and the Bane Weapons (I knew I should have at least got some of them to +2, I had a weird dream before this video on upgrading Bane weapons, but I shruged it off, seems my subconcious and you my friend are smarter then my dumb ass!) Seeing how Recreation is a new activity from the updates to get Support points more quickly! I hope they add some other functions to make it abit more easier on you with the Gold gathering (Nothing to BREAK the balance, dear god I hate to see that, so far they've kept the balance even with the new stuff and free items and money and still keep it Balanced, yeah you'll break Normal in half, but Hard and ESPECIALLY Maddening are still unforgiving if your stupid or just plan unlucky!)
Poison is x3 stackable. First stack adds 1 unblockable damage, second & third add 2 unblockable damage each. Total bonus damage of 5 per hit at 3 poison stacks to all hits. This bonus damage ignores defense & resistance, and will proc even if your Might is lower than their respective defense or resistance.
Celicas engrave is kinda underwhelming HOWEVER it is perfect for ivy as for her abysmal luck she gets crited constantly so the +50 doge is basicaly her livesaver and all that for the meager price of 1 might.
I'm glad that everyone can now know just how busted iron dagger refines + micaiah engrave can be. I saw how good that avoid bonus from her engrave was and Yunaka made for one of the best frontline units. Barely anything without an emblem attack can even come close to killing her
What carried my early game was louis, especially on chapter 11 I had him promoted as a general with a silver great lance, the enemy froze his movement and that was part of my master plan. He stayed behind and killed everyone except the hounds and corrupted drake who was chasing my team.
Personally, I don’t like putting Micaiah’s engrave on any active use weapon BUUUUUT I like putting it on a Shielding Arts early game. Then having that sit in my inventory until I get Seadall and give it to him, that way if he is put in danger, he is far more likely to survive. As for dodge tanking in maddening, that’s where having a backup steel dagger with a -Avo engrave come in handy. If my Yunaka is TOO evasive with her silver dagger, I can do a controlled nerf to get her just in the range to be targeted and still never be hit. Her main problem keeping her from soloing is still Mystical units tho
unironically decent if a unit just needs an extra point of speed to reach doubling thresholds and gets weighed down by their weapon. needs you to check the map beforehand which is hassle but it has some uses. enemies also usually have some crit bc of steel weapons so the dodge is useful even if hard to notice
I've been refineing weapons, and actually got bottlenecked with *Iron* I've also been mostly refineing Steel weapons. Silver is a lot more expensive and resource-heavy, and I'm doing perfectly fine with Steel weapons instead. There are a few things I've bumped up to Tier 3 now I have some silver; like Citrinne's Elthunder -> Thoron. Thoron + 2 just... vaporizes things. But Yunaka is perfectly happy with a refined Steel Dagger. Alfred is content with his refined Steel Lance, and so on. Silver is heavier; more expensive to upgrade and only a bit better than Steel. The percentage difference between a +5 Silver and a +5 Steel isn't much. This lets me save my gold and silver to upgrade things like the Levin Sword.
I have questions on weight.., I don’t have the Thunder bond ring but when I use Elthunder or Thoron on Ivy or Celine they seem to be more vulnerable on enemy phase since they only hit once vs two hits of Elfire+3 which kills anything, so I have to position them further back than I want, am I missing something that makes it good or is Thunder+5 the only good one? Also on the Levin Sword isn’t it too heavy for Celine to use and still double? Again for me it didn’t seem stronger than Elfire+3, I’ve only used it on Fogado who always doubles everything
4:57 For the Levin Sword, I have 2 atm, one for Chloé (with the Sigurd engrave already) and a second for Anna (both are Griffin Knights. What emblem engraving should I put on the 2nd sword?
On the dagger note, I did a wolf knight only run a few weeks ago. I had forged 3 silver daggers for my first 3 wolf knight candidates, the rest got steel due to a resource shortage. The steel dagger units performed consistently better long term than the silver dagger units
I'm in my maddening run blind on ch24 and getting the Olwen ring was a run changing moment. Great video choops it felt cool to see some of my early blind refine choices here! I did however missed the mark on many lol, I have like two refined Scrolls in my Convoy getting dust since forever lmao
This'll be extremely helpful once I start my second playthrough. I found myself broke in both gold and SP, so late game was really hard due to no refined/upgraded weapons, and a limited selection of skills.
Iron Dagger+3 with Micaiah’s engraving was something I did EARLY. It carried my homemade Maddening+ ruleset run HARD for Yunaka as an untouchable dodge tank.
Wowzers! Time to second seal as much as possible and only use Thief units with a Steel Dagger +2 (Dawn Engrave) Maddening mode? More like easyening mode!
There aren’t many defensive weapons but the one I think best fits celiac’s engraving is shielding art. It helps to make my Jean less likely to be killed whenever I have him acting as a support.
I dont recommend mt penalty on iron tier weapons tho nothing is more depressing then setting up the perfect scenario to troll using yunaka or zelkov just for whatever youre fighting to take zero damage lol. I feel like if you have DLC put rival on Liberation and Beginnings on the iron dagger instead.
Yes (to the meme part, not the missing something). You can place it on a low Luck character to not be crit so much, but that's about all it does (at the cost of 1 Mt, so not that bad, just not helping you kill anything).
i entirely agree for the dagger especially since you will get another steel dagger during chapter 10 meaning that if you need a dagger with higher might to be able to do damage you will have the ability to do so.
I learned so much from this guide it was very useful on my Normal mode run with ALL the DLC!

it's so funny how they just said lets make magic the best thing you could possibly do in this game. i have used levin swords and radiant bows on the last chapters on 10 magic units and they still do more damage than using physical weapons with way higher strength. but gatcha is king so the heroes weapons are kinda to good for being free starting equipment. i have done multiple run and every time use them till the last chapter thats just how good they are especially nóatún as a light weight silver axe

I started playing Heroes (after getting stuck past the prologue because I didn't have the storage for the later patches) for the FEH weapon pack in Engage, and I was also thrown when it wasn't a Reinhardt reference (it helps that 5* Reinhardt's availability is amazing, because he's the reward for Heroes' Path level 5)

I think losing the ability to engrave with the lost emblem rings post 10 was a really cool design decision, I thought alot about what to invest in pre-ch10 on my second playthrough of the game. It reminded me of preparing the gen1 units for the gen2 units in fe4 in a way.

The cheap +1 refines that added +2 damage were incredible in early game
Into the mid-game, I've found Silver Daggers to be the strongest. At just +1 they have 12 might. That's the same as a Silver Sword at base but with 4 less weight, and the ability to hit 2 range.
And keep in mind, before +5, all daggers increase by 2 might every upgrade. A +5 Silver Dagger has the same might as a +5 Steel Axe.

And it's nearly half the weight, at base it's 7 Wt, and I think with refines it becomes 6 maybe 5. So you barely lose any speed either from wielding it
Ive been a bigger fan of the steel daggers because their cheaper to upgrade and they give that +10 crit.
Ngl, i feel like the devs just wanted to make Yunaka OP. Thats the only way i can explain daggers being OP, coverts being dodge tanks with basically 0 effort, the Micaiah engrave, and her having a dedicated chapter built to make her shine, literally.

I swear, my Citrinne with the Olwen Ring and a +5 Thunder tome was better than most actual 'Engage' ring units. She absolutely shredded and the number of times she would just delete a boss' health bars with a refresh or two was giddying.
If you put canter/canter + on the unit it also makes it a lot easier to place the unit in safe positions after attacking

@@checkerhat327 I used this strategy with Ivy and it was fantastic. She has high magic and you get flying 6 move to put her over water and flier terrain after attacking. The canter also helps you position her for dancing and you can get the benefit from her personal skill which can help with thunder's lower hit chance against bosses.

I would also recommend Sigurd's Engraving for Libération as well, as the +20 Avo you get for it does go a long way especially if u get yourself Avo +10/+15. The +5 Dodge doesn't do much, and the 90 hit the weapon comes with is more than good enough and doesn't need upgrading.

Love these helpful Engage vids, there's so many options in the game i get analysis paralysis. If you could give tips on Emblem Ring pairings that would be amazing!
A somewhat quick answer: any ring that completes the units personal skill (example: panette and ike are powerful together and with vantage++ skill bought with sp makes her a killing monster.
My recommendations, Yunaka or Zelkov with Corrin
Sigurd on General (although I’ve been liking Edelgard on Great Knight, but I’m assuming no DLC)
Lucina on Alear for 90% bonded shield, or if you don’t like that (like me), Lucina on a Wolf Knight has great range of effect and the chain dagger attacks DO poison. Allowing you to poison enemies who your wolf knight would do 0 damage against
I like Micaiah in Seadall, gives him more utility, but I also see Sigurd as a good option.
I looooove Pannette Ike.
Lyn turns nearly any units into a top tier, but I recommend Alcryst in specific for ungodly range in Astra Storm and the fact that Luna can proc on every hit of Astra Storm.
Personally, I like having Byleth on a non combat support unit. On my current maddening playthrough that is the flier cleric you get at the same time as Byleth.
Marth on Alear is bread and butter
I actually think Celica is pretty meh, throw her in any mage
Lief… sucks, but on my Hard run, I used him well on Diamant while inheriting Ike’s skills.
Roy is also pretty meh imo, but he works on literally everyone, so just give him to however doesn’t have a ring yet.
Erika is also kinda meh imo, but I think she has a surprising great niche in 4 hit Brave weapon users like Kagetsu.

Finished my first playthrough on hard and it was way too easy. Was also excited to do a maddenning run but now that I am a good way into it (like chapter 12) I am discovering it is way harder than "hard." I'm contemplating quitting since I can barely make any progress (don't get any crafting materials so I can't upgrade any of my weapons and get so little xp and sp that I barely have any skills). I'm wishing there was a difficulty in between like hard+ or something!

Once I realized I needed to wait a while they were doable. I still feel like Engage maddening is way harder than 3 Houses maddening (I was hoping for a maddening+ in that case)!

Also I did do some effective stuff in engage maddening, like only stable dogs etc. I also had the DLC, so got tiki and 3h ring.
Notes for DLC players!
As you can get the Bracelet Emblems before Chapter 10 its worth noting what the engraves do for those with the expansion pass.
The biggest one of note is Rivals, Edelgards Engraving. At the cost of 1 Weight you get a minor boost to mt, hit, crit, avo and dodge. Making the weapon slightly heavier for a lot of positive bonuses is worth the trade off. Rivals synergizes with Daggers well due to thier low weight not causing the engrave to slow the user down alongside its boost to mt and crit (especially on the steel dagger)
Unfortunately I cant say much for Dragons, Strength, Acumen and Revelation.
Dragons, Strength and Acumen give the same general bonus of increasing mt at the cost of decreasing avo and dodge. Avo being decreased is not an issue on tanks or an Ike user, but the decrease in dodge (up too -30%!) Will add a lot of variance in your survivability. Pair it with Eirika or a unit with High Luck.
Revelations, Camilla, also has the same general set up as the above, but with an extra 30 crit. Its a gamble that gives both you and the enemy crit, but still may be too high variance to feel safe.
Granted, all of the above Engraving also Synergize with Thunder too. Magic is Everything!

Bows, especially the Longbow, could synergize with some of those as well. A loss in Avo and Ddge is way less impactful in a 2 range weapon after all. Specifically, I am thinking of the Camilla engrave on a Killer Bow could lead to some wacky results
Thunder/Elthunder/Thornon I think are hands down the best candidates for the Radiance engraving (Ike’s). Weight isn’t a factor since the weapons can’t normally double, so min-max the Mt and your mages shouldn’t be getting hit anyway
@@Blitz_Spencer I give it to my thunder+4, you have to be careful though, because whoever wields it is absolutely gonna get doubled.
An alternative is to give it to a Smash weapon like the Silver Greataxe that you intend to give to a General if you use one (or whoever is using the Ike Emblem tbh, it's kinda funny to see Great Aether delete a group of wyverns without even needing effective weaponry)

I know this is post chapter 10, but I've found the fates engraving on a refined Peshkatz insane (at least on hard). Consistent +60% crit rate, and easy 100% avoid
i never really gave the 1 ranged daggers a shot, but ill give it a try this run for sure!

yeah its freaking great. i was worried it wouldn't be worth since u get a steel in ch 10, but that refine really takes it over the edge and synergizes so well with Yunaka.
Gonna throw another one out there: Tomahawks. Refined and engraved for a bit of accuracy and your axe users will just shred anything on enemy phase. My Anna 1 rounds pretty much anything with her high speed allowing her to double almost anyone

maybe it was just my FEH bias, but the FEH weapons for linking your account are pretty darn good for early game and its really easy to do. I never regretted getting a couple refines on them

Noatun+1 with Marth's engraving is a straight upgrade over even an Iron Greataxe.
The feh weapons really do feel like cheating, especially in the early game. High might low et and cheap refines make them better to ttphan steel and even silver weapons and you get them super early

Started my first blind playthrough on Hard, definitely found that the iron dagger and levinsword were definitely must haves
Some might have questions on what late game weapons are worthwhile, specifically the S rank weapons. The only worthwhile S ranks to invest in are: Brionac, Cinquedea, and Nova. S ranked weapon for sw/ln/ax/bw at max investment are 2mt higher and 10 crit higher than their silver counterpart max forged but cost way more silver ore and gold; however unlike with the sowrd, axe and bow, the Brionac is 1-2 range, the Cinquedea will actually be 3Mt higher and 20 crit higher than the silver dagger, and Nova is a brave tome.
u should def look at the refine costs before u decide investing in an s rank weapon.
Venomous is really great too if you can manage to get it somewhat early it cost Firene lv 5 to get but right out of the bat its the same might as a Silver Greatlance +5 (34 mt) with equal hit rate(80) and +10 crit that can also apply poison and with just +1 forge(3 silver + 3000 G) its already stronger then the Silver could ever be. Its really strong in particular with the Sigurd ring for powerful overides and and Eirika thanks to the Eclipse Brace + Smash weapons combo that give enemies the vantage effect but minimizes that negative by healing you on your counterattack and in general its an incredibly strong enemy phase weapon.
how tf do you people get to +5 anything but an iron??? as I chose Lunatic setting to engage my suffering chamber for this amazing game, it was my choice to willingly stumble through and make up for it with tactical acumen. But one truth from the start of this video was investment, I went broke and got succer punched by Firenese Charity, so I couldnt bring up Brodia’s level for greater quantities of ingots until after the castle funds, so I was left starved for BOTH Gold & Ore!

Hey now, the Celica engrave has its purpose. Leif's Adaptable for some reason has a real hard-on for Dodge so the Celica engrave will rig a weapon much higher in Leif's priorities than it would otherwise be.
I mean the Byleth engrave does that too but maybe you want the Byleth engrave on a good unit instead of whoever's left over and got stuck with Leif

leif does have his uses, from not having the unit equipped break when engaged and a high luck covert can net you 1k gold with quad hit.
@@Izanagi-Arsene see the funny part about that is that when you get broken you lose your enemy phase offense, but Leif also makes you lose your enemy phase offense on his own already-
Genuinely I think one of the better uses for Leif would be to just use him for his Avo+20 for Covert units when engaged and deliberately keep his Bond at Lv9 by not getting the B convo, that way the Light Brand doesn't get in the way of your counterattack damage. Sniper can use him as an on-demand Close Counter (and Alcryst's Luna can proc on each hit of Quadruple Hit so it might even do actual damage sometimes) and Thief can be funny and carry 1-range crit knife with a Ddg forge with them that they will then always switch to when attacked at 1 range (well except against lances because of the Killer Axe, but hey)
(and then sometimes you might get some extra pocket change out of it I suppose. I've tried using Anna, wasn't impressed, and can't imagine it's any better when it only works on your engage attack)
A bit closer to midgame but some weapons are really really worth upgrading types/tiers on for example Iron Greatlance which you can buy in Chapter 8 can be fairly cheaply upgraded to a Silver Greatlance with 30+ MT absolutely crushing things for the next 10-15 chapters.
You can use the same technique to get Crit weapons very early on and begin upgrading them too which is also worthwhile since they last the entire game and are top investments for refining too.
During my first playthrough I thought engraving just meant naming your forged ridersbane Glue Factory like in previous games...oops!

I know for me one of my favorite tools in my run was when I did Sigurd Engrave on a Killer Bow. Got that to +5 and the crit rate with it was monstrous. 12 Might in the end isn't the worst thing ever, especially when you should have around or over 50% chance to crit using it.
What I do is Ellfire tome, use Micaiah Engrave and give it to my Anna, she will kill everything and dodge everything and some times give me money.
It works.
Sniper Etie + Killer bow5 + Eirika engraving + Emblem Lyn = Profit
This but with Tireur d'elite Alcryst!
@Linkachu HQ I tried it with Alcryst but figured that Emblem Lyn is better on slower but stronger units like Etie, even with luna procs my Etie is just better than my Alcryst, not sure if he got STR screwed or not (I'm playing on maddening so I don't think that's the case)

so Alcryst and Etie are turning out how they're expected to turn out. this excludes any special investement you do so your Etie sounds better since she's prob been your most invested unit.
so her fixed levels prob got a lot of strength compared to Alcryst who'd prob get more dex for Luna activations.
if its the random growths thats unlocked after you beat the forced fixed growths first playthrough of maddening, then thats deff a maybe, cuz fixed growths will often have empty levels before a good stat increase every few levels.
while random grwoths'll have at least 1-2 every levels

I really like micaiah's engrave on a short knife, that one has a higher base dodge and avoid than the rest of the knives. When you get corrin you can give it to yunaka or replace it with the corrin engraving, but both make her a stupid dodge tank that won't be hit by anything.
Max Liberation with Marth's Engraving turned the thing into a RIGHTEOUS weapon that left more slots for Alear to equip other weapons! Basically it gives the sword the MT of a Silver Sword, with the weight of an Iron Sword (meaning if you been getting some good blessings from SPD, Alear will be doubling! Take note Liberation WT is Alear's STARTING Build/Bld! Meaning you'll never suffer a Spd DROP THAT AN actual Silver Sword would do to Alear if that Bld doesn't grow! I honestly give Alear a Wyrmslayer to deal with the occasional Wyvern Knight!
Also don't forget killing foes with Liberation means the Engage meter will be filled an extra bit! Seeing that Alear is the only one (well their personal classes anyway) with the Dragon Battle Style, this makes sense as their meant to be engaging almost a large amout of times in the battle (since they bring out the best of the emblems special traits and abilities! Hell even the Magic focus Celica, Soren and Micaiah are useful if Alear's Mag stat is good enough, nothing one or two Spirit Dust Cocaine can't make useful!)
Happy with this guide video though! Some like the Liberation example I found out on my own and happy to see validated! and the Dogs! The moment I learned the first three dogs gave me Steel and Silver Ingots, I just "kidnappe....I mean ADOPTED" every dog I could find to have them all over the Stable. But others I didn't know like the donations (I barely touched it in fear of money till I learned how to gather it smartly around CHAPTER 21!) and the Bane Weapons (I knew I should have at least got some of them to +2, I had a weird dream before this video on upgrading Bane weapons, but I shruged it off, seems my subconcious and you my friend are smarter then my dumb ass!)
Seeing how Recreation is a new activity from the updates to get Support points more quickly! I hope they add some other functions to make it abit more easier on you with the Gold gathering (Nothing to BREAK the balance, dear god I hate to see that, so far they've kept the balance even with the new stuff and free items and money and still keep it Balanced, yeah you'll break Normal in half, but Hard and ESPECIALLY Maddening are still unforgiving if your stupid or just plan unlucky!)

Poison is x3 stackable. First stack adds 1 unblockable damage, second & third add 2 unblockable damage each. Total bonus damage of 5 per hit at 3 poison stacks to all hits. This bonus damage ignores defense & resistance, and will proc even if your Might is lower than their respective defense or resistance.

Celicas engrave is kinda underwhelming HOWEVER it is perfect for ivy as for her abysmal luck she gets crited constantly so the +50 doge is basicaly her livesaver and all that for the meager price of 1 might.

What carried my early game was louis, especially on chapter 11 I had him promoted as a general with a silver great lance, the enemy froze his movement and that was part of my master plan. He stayed behind and killed everyone except the hounds and corrupted drake who was chasing my team.
Personally, I don’t like putting Micaiah’s engrave on any active use weapon BUUUUUT I like putting it on a Shielding Arts early game. Then having that sit in my inventory until I get Seadall and give it to him, that way if he is put in danger, he is far more likely to survive. As for dodge tanking in maddening, that’s where having a backup steel dagger with a -Avo engrave come in handy. If my Yunaka is TOO evasive with her silver dagger, I can do a controlled nerf to get her just in the range to be targeted and still never be hit. Her main problem keeping her from soloing is still Mystical units tho
Steel sword, lance and dagger, Thunder, Levin Sword, Tomahawk, Javelin/Spear, Killer Bow, Silver Greataxe. Everything else is worthless garbage. You are welcome.

unironically decent if a unit just needs an extra point of speed to reach doubling thresholds and gets weighed down by their weapon. needs you to check the map beforehand which is hassle but it has some uses. enemies also usually have some crit bc of steel weapons so the dodge is useful even if hard to notice

I've been refineing weapons, and actually got bottlenecked with *Iron*
I've also been mostly refineing Steel weapons. Silver is a lot more expensive and resource-heavy, and I'm doing perfectly fine with Steel weapons instead. There are a few things I've bumped up to Tier 3 now I have some silver; like Citrinne's Elthunder -> Thoron. Thoron + 2 just... vaporizes things. But Yunaka is perfectly happy with a refined Steel Dagger. Alfred is content with his refined Steel Lance, and so on. Silver is heavier; more expensive to upgrade and only a bit better than Steel. The percentage difference between a +5 Silver and a +5 Steel isn't much. This lets me save my gold and silver to upgrade things like the Levin Sword.
Nice guide. I like to make a lot of stupid choices in Fire Emblem games, just for fun, and this should help me compensate for that.

I have questions on weight.., I don’t have the Thunder bond ring but when I use Elthunder or Thoron on Ivy or Celine they seem to be more vulnerable on enemy phase since they only hit once vs two hits of Elfire+3 which kills anything, so I have to position them further back than I want, am I missing something that makes it good or is Thunder+5 the only good one? Also on the Levin Sword isn’t it too heavy for Celine to use and still double? Again for me it didn’t seem stronger than Elfire+3, I’ve only used it on Fogado who always doubles everything

On the dagger note, I did a wolf knight only run a few weeks ago. I had forged 3 silver daggers for my first 3 wolf knight candidates, the rest got steel due to a resource shortage. The steel dagger units performed consistently better long term than the silver dagger units
I'm in my maddening run blind on ch24 and getting the Olwen ring was a run changing moment.

If you have DLC, you'll have enough resources and money to refine the iron dagger all the way to a Silver Dagger +3
This'll be extremely helpful once I start my second playthrough. I found myself broke in both gold and SP, so late game was really hard due to no refined/upgraded weapons, and a limited selection of skills.
Iron Dagger+3 with Micaiah’s engraving was something I did EARLY. It carried my homemade Maddening+ ruleset run HARD for Yunaka as an untouchable dodge tank.
Wowzers! Time to second seal as much as possible and only use Thief units with a Steel Dagger +2 (Dawn Engrave) Maddening mode? More like easyening mode!

There aren’t many defensive weapons but the one I think best fits celiac’s engraving is shielding art. It helps to make my Jean less likely to be killed whenever I have him acting as a support.
I really love my Levin Sword Yunaka.
Also brave sword is extremely good when with plus 4, not even plus 5.

I dont recommend mt penalty on iron tier weapons tho nothing is more depressing then setting up the perfect scenario to troll using yunaka or zelkov just for whatever youre fighting to take zero damage lol. I feel like if you have DLC put rival on Liberation and Beginnings on the iron dagger instead.

Yes (to the meme part, not the missing something).
You can place it on a low Luck character to not be crit so much, but that's about all it does (at the cost of 1 Mt, so not that bad, just not helping you kill anything).
i entirely agree for the dagger especially since you will get another steel dagger during chapter 10 meaning that if you need a dagger with higher might to be able to do damage you will have the ability to do so.
yeah it's about applying that dawn engrave when u have it. otherwise you'll lose access for a good chunk of the game.
