These videos are great for home owners learning how to take care of their own homes. Almost every video this guy does is something that the vast majority of home owners should be doing on their own as part of being a home owner.
I use old vertical blind slats cut to 3-4 feet and push it under the baseboard, shielding the carpet, moving it along as I paint.
THANK YOU! That just saved me using up my masking tape for the carpet side and saved me on buying a 10"~ drywall knife! I have old ass blinds that will do the trick!
I guess everyone has a take on doing this, however as a DIY beginner these tips are invaluable. Thank you
Every professional painter and the DIY'ers like me have their own means and methods. This video is done very well and gives everyone some good ideas. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
That wide brown packing paper (for me) is the best method to cover the carpeting and a great idea.....I'm a clumsy painter, lol. The blue tape is too skinny for me and I'd get it all over the carpet.
Thanks for posting and sharing my friend. 👍👍
My absolute favorite channel for the most compact, practical information! You never disappoint! Just finished the A/C unit repair/cleaning from your prior video (along with the grounding tip from the comments!😵) saved major $$$ from needing a service call! And in the current heat wave-it’s working GREAT!!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK ON THESE VIDEOS!!!
Thank you so much for the amazing feedback! Please email me when you have the Chance please 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
Awesome
Out of all the videos I have seen so far on painting trim boards this by fair has been the best simple step by step video and so simple for me. I had to watch this video a few times due to my short term memory loss. So coming from someone like me that’s a big kuddos !!! God bless
Masking works well if you are lucky to have a gap at the bottom of the skirting board though here in the UK our skirting boards don't usually have a gap. Also I'd suggest also putting a tarpaulin or cover over the main carpet to avoid any paint drips from the paint can, etc.
Yes, I live in the UK too and don't know if thats the same with me because my carpet is quite thick but now I realise I probably don't have a gap, such an American thing, everything they have just bloody works.
In our houses in uk dont have any gap between skirting and floor, if you can tuck your carpet under the skirting there must be something wrong
You dont need to put masking tape on the wall to paint the skirting boards etc and you dont need to be a professional to cut in your paint so to avoid masking tape.
Same with Australia
Preparation and patience are key. We all need to be reminded of these factors from time to time. I thoroughly enjoyed the video and learnt a good tip to use a putty knife for the carpet and the tape. Thank you.
I just use a thin piece of cardboard, about 2ft long and push it underneath the baseboard. Dont paint to the ends of the cardboard, leave about 5 inches on each end clean and gently pull it in the direction you're painting, keeping it under the base. Usually a couple pieces will do an average room.
Likewise, simple, effective cheap.
I use modified Vinyl siding , just cut the edges off to turn it into a 2.5 inch flat strip . Slides under the baseboard with no issues and its reusable.
@@manchesterexplorer8519 I have always used a piece of metal soffit capping,,
I do the same for any trim...
This tutorial is fantastic! Your method for protecting the carpet and achieving super clean lines on the baseboards is brilliant. The detailed step-by-step process and the practical tips, like using painter's tape and a putty knife, are incredibly helpful. Thanks for making a potentially tricky job so much easier and more manageable
In stead of tape, paper or other stuff, take your painter's tarp and tuck it under the base board. That way, it'll be there when you do the wall too...or vice versa. Also, paint wall, then install base board.
Hi great ideas if you have a gap under your baseboard, we in the UK call this skirting board, which is placed on top of the floorboard, so tucking under would not work. Regards welshman2081
And having that gap often results in the edge of the carpet becoming dirty as dust can blow in draughty circumstances.
I'm a retired painting contractor of 36 years. The tapering method is by far the fastest and most efficient method. You don't need to use a drywall knife , just use your fingers to push it down and under the base.
Actually, tile and wood flooring is the best option..carpet is way old school in Florida...
@@thedbcooperforum We LOVE our carpeted floors upstairs. Not everybody wants to spend all their lives walking on cold, hard stone.
@@wolemai snowbirds are not in my equation, lol ever heard of house slippers..
@@thedbcooperforumnot everyone lives in Florida, some of us in fact most of us live in colder climes where carpet is the best option ,btw hard floors still get paint on them if you don’t mask
@@Royboy50 my comment explained I live in Florida, my comment never claimed to not need tape..I did say snowbirds excluded and slippers are available everywhere...
I'm getting ready to paint my living room and this is so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! I wish you well on your project! 🙏🏽😊
Great information for an inexperienced DIYourselfer. Thank you so much. I like using the blue paint along with a straight edge.
Awesome ideas to help those that always wonder how not to mess up their little paint projects. Once they are done they realized it's like "what is this mess"! 😢
Than you for the feedback! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
@@FixThisHouseThe fact that you need to use tape at all tells me you are not a qualified painter, learn how to ‘cut an edge’, it’s much faster and cheaper.
Could not be happier. I am about to start painting. Thank you so much.😊❤ . You are the best.
Thank you so much for the love and support! Really means a lot! I wish you the best on your project! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽

Thanks for the tips pare! 🎉
I’m glad to help pare ko! 🙏🏽😊
Thanks. I usually do the first method that you showed. 👍🏻🖌
Thank you Ron! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
On past jobs I’ve take a roll of plastic, and cut it to about 6” wide. Then unroll it and using a plastic drywall blade/scraper I just tuck it under the baseboard and then get to painting. After it’s dry, just pull the plastic and roll it back up
People don't have skills anymore. Thank goodness for this guy.
Exactly correct, then 12" paper and tarps. I watched to see where this would go, great job!
Thank you so much William! 🙏🏽😊
We have mostly hardwoods, but the challenges are the same. I'm going to check out your channel and see if you have addressed white interior doors. Very good video! I'd probably use the brown paper because we have a huge roll of it. Tape on the top.
I absolutely love this....!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
Very helpful thank you!
Nothing beats a steady hand
This is a great idea we’re going do to this today. Thanks!

This any EXCELLENT (DIY) and I'm motivated to do it myself! BIG THANKS......

GREAT TIPS THANK YOU
Brilliant idea.
Thank you 🙏🏽
great vid, thanks!
Very helpful, thank you 😄😄👍👍
Thanks for this
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
I invented painting and decorating. And I can confirm that these 3 methods are legit.
You can also take the skirting board off or take the edge of the carpet up and then once finished, tuck it back in.
Good tip. Thanks
Thank you! I’m glad to help! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
WELL DONE!!!
Excellent !!
This is great stuff. I would be using the tape method.
The best thing for carpet and baseboard is to get yourself No residue duct tape.
Investing a few dollars in 2 or 3 rolls of this makes the job a hell of a lot easier. You can leave it down as long as you need to until you're done then pull it all up at once.
Make your strip as long as you can handle it. Keep it taut, and firmly press downward and toward the baseboard having the edge slightly curled as you apply pressure, from slightly the middle pressing down and forward getting the edge under the board.
You'll get about 1/4 inch to almost 1/2 inch underneath.
I very been able to do it with 3/4 inch carpet.
I was worried how to paint without touching the rug but thanks to this wonderful it helps me a lot!
Wow ….I would have never thought of that 👍
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
Great Video I think I’ll go with the Taping method….thank you kind sir 😊
Thank you for watching! I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
Good video. This guy definitely knows what he is doing. Same technique I used myself for years as a painter.
Fantastic! Thanks! 🎸😃
Find some scrap vinyl siding or buy it new as its worth it, cut the edges off to form it into a 2.5 inch wide flat strips . Wedge the plastic beneath the baseboard and the problem is solved. I keep about 20 pieces of it at 6 foot lengths in my Van as this works perfect 👍
Taping is " NOT" the way to do this.
Cool thanks Mr diy 👍
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Thank you !!
Thank you bro, all methods can work, I really appreciated your video, Sir. Thanks, Wade Out..
Thank you Antonio! Means a lot!
Very impressed
If you want a smooth finish it helps to apply the product with a roller and back-brush with a brush. Rollers can cover the surface quickly and the brush gets rid of the roller-stipple.
Agree, tight sponge paint gloss roller
if you get a decent semi-gloss with enamel in the paint you can skip the back brush altogether as the enamel is heavier paint which has a small paint "sag" so when you put it on with a small roller it "sags" the stipple to a nice finish without any brush strokes or stipple marks, might have to do 2 coats but it looks like it was spray finished.
@@MV-wb2cz▪︎ forgive me if this ought to be obvious but painting heavily enough for the paint to sag doesn't seem like a proper solution. Esp if the paint sags too much and pools at the bottom of the baseboard and onto the carpet or into the carpet "hairs."
@@bethanyanderson1745 forgive me but i did not say to paint a heavy coat, it's the way the paint is formulated, if you have a paint with enamel in it vs regular paint, it's a heavier paint and you don't need to back roller it
I use roofing tar paper. Always some left over, very stiff, works great, zero cost.
That’s a great idea! Thank you for sharing! 👍🏽🙏🏽😊
Well done thank you
Absolute genius 😂😂
Excellent Thank You!!!!!
Thank you so much ❤
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
Excellent
I prefer the tape as to the paint shield. The tape is a lot more labor but the results are almost fool proof is done right.
Thank you for the feedback! Tape is definitely full-proof 👍🏽🙏🏽😊
Thanks!
Very good tip
Thank you! 🙏🏽😊
Thank you so much! I really needed this video. Could I use these techniques on a floating vinyl Plank floor? The extra base board is nailed into the floor. I'm not sure ai can get the tape or the drywall spatula under it.
You can definitely can use these methods, for close joints I would use the frog tape 👍🏽😊
All good ideas.
Just a couple of tips if I may.
First. Use Pink frog tape Not green or any other colour when applying it to walls. Green is too tacky and could rip paint or paper off walls.
As for the large plasters spatular I’d personally move it along as I go rather than taking it out and putting it back.
Other than that good tips.👍
You hit it out of the park again! Putting wax paper under the baseboard seems like the best way for me to paint. I'm too clumsy to have just tape on the carpet.
Thank you so much! I’m glad I was able to show options you liked 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
Me too I think I'm going to try this one
Nice trick of the trade.
Good video I never thought of these ways.I would of been armature and got A tiny bit of paint on the carpet.
Thank-you!
I use a 36x6 strip of laminate with 2in. masking tape along the edge. The laminate is thin enough to slide along as you work. Replacing the tape after finishing a complete length of baseboard.
good videos, thanks God bless.
