0:05 The customer's insurance company did not want to cover this damage.
0:26 GPS mount hits the power button of the radio screen causing it to shut off over bumps. The technician also mentioned the customer drove 80 miles/128 km for this appointment and was rather surprised it was that all along.
0:38 Customer just thought it needed an alignment. Parts were replaced and the car got an alignment afterwards. Make sure to read the owner's manual on where the lifting points are on your vehicle.
0:50 A new oil pan gasket was installed.
1:08 Not the first time we have seen this on the channel. Hopefully, it's just from people leaving their wigs/Halloween costumes on the road...
1:20 Look at the aftermarket cover and where the buttons are on the key fob. As mentioned the customer has been pressing the wrong buttons the whole time, so the remote start function didn't work.
1:32 "2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, customer states while driving check engine light will turn on and go into reduce engine power. Found left front of vehicle had some damage and they did not put the fender liner back in that supports the wiring harness causing it to hang contacting the rim and grounding out control circuits in the wiring harness."
    1:54 Damage was repaired.
2:07 An important lesson for the customer and service advisor.
2:18 A/C was very cold when the dial was turned to the left.
2:26 Very common for Chevy trailblazers to see this happen. Looks like it has been like this for a while as you can see the tire has started to cup/have unusual wear.
2:36 Looks like brake fluid is leaking as well. Maybe the customer did the work himself but could not figure out how to put it back together?
2:47 First time seeing a Focus turned into a Cadillac.
2:56 An easy find for the technician.
3:04 "CCTV footage shows the ghost wheel rolling across the road and then smashing through the windows of a building in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, southern Thailand, on September 23. Staff were jolted from their seats as the heavy object shattered the glass and sent sharp shards scattering on the tiled floor. The shop owner said no employees were hurt as they were seated away from the windows. She said she planned to relocate the employees' workspace farther inside the building following the incident. Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027. However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts."

Ok, I’ve been bugged about it since I first heard that quote, but finally I can put it into words: That’s not actually true mathematically. The median and the mean are not necessarily the same. For example, 1, 3, 3, and 4 averages to 2.75, but only one of those four values is less than that.

    • @nuclearmedicineman6270

@@WilburJaywright Well.. think of IQ scores, averaging at 100.
A person with a 40 IQ is essentially a vegetable, we can't really test below that, nobody scores a zero. On the other side, there are plenty of people in the 160+ range, and there's no upper limit, so 200+ is possible.
One person with a 200 IQ would require one person with 0 to maintain that 100 average. Most people fall between 95 and 105. Realistically, for that one 200 IQ person, you'll have 100 people who score 99, which gets you a 100 average, with just one person above it, and 100 below it.

Some of it stems from stupidity and entitlement but largely the number of unrepaired vehicles on the roads of many countries, like the US, is a huge portion of car owners are working poor. The US consistently ranks pretty low on road safety and accident rates. This is what happens when most people must have a car to get someplace, or a car centric infrastructure. You wind up with poor people driving vehicles that shouldn't be driving because they have no other option. We have no public transit infrastructure in this country, so people must drive. Add-on this insane car culture that exists in the United States and you wind up with really aggressive drivers as well. The United States also has a lot of very old drivers who have no other options as well, so we wind up with near-disabled people driving.
the US is really stupid when it comes to vehicles, basically.

    • @astrofan8775
      @astrofan8775 6 місяців тому

@@rocksfire4390 As far as i know, you can get it released. If you turn up with a Tow-Truck, ideally with someone from another shop that you're going to get it fixed at, and are willing to sign a lot of papers. Also keep the number of the local police ready, you might need to call them to supervise the entire things, because the shop - if they don't belive you're going to keep to what you sign (fix everything before you even attempt to legally get the car back on the road) - can still refuse to release the car (unless the police says, relase it, which they can do).
Basically, if you go beyond a certain point, your wallet or convenience does not matter at all, keeping others safe from you and/or your car is. Which is why it is so difficult to make sure your wallet suffers less.
But price.gouging is also a lot less common here, due to high labor-rates making everything at every proper shop expensive enough, and controls making sure you're at the worst actually providing the services you bill your customers for (which means usually they ask you before they do anything).
Also, if you don't trust the shop not to try to scam you, how on earth do you trust their expetise? That makes no sense, a good shop is good all-round, and a bad one too (at least in my experience).

Second, if it weren't for the govt. forcing car companies to make all of their cars meet ridiculous emissions standards, they wouldn't be so expensive and they could build more low cost, "entry level" cars. Third, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... the cost of maintaining a car is usually far less than the cost of repairs. Fourth and most of all, it ain't what you drive, it's how you drive it. Poor driving habits cause more problems than wear and tear.

@@livewire2759 In well working and safe countries here's how it goes:
      - You are strictly forbidden to drive a mechanically dangerous car in traffic. If the police catches you, what you'll get is a huge fine (often times more than the banger's actual worth) and a tightened safety inspection, if you ever want your car to be usable again. Not to mention that if you cause an accident with an unsafe car, and somebody gets seriously hurt or even dies, you'll spend years in prison for that.
Owning and maintaining a car is not cheap. If you are poor, then don't have a car, it's as simple as that.
      - Mechanics are obliged to report potential dangerous cars to the traffic authority (like M.O.T.). After the report the owner gets a notification to bring the car for a safety inspection. If it fails, they revoke the "road using permission" for that vehicle.
If a mechanically unsafe car gets into an accident, and they find out that the car was in your shop some days/weeks before (and you didn't report it), that's basically the end of your career as a mechanic.

That last scene should have had a Dicount Tire sign photoshopped onto the business. Would have been hilarious! Unhappy customer returned the tire from the roadway! 😂

Whenever I doubt my mechanical abilities after graduating from UA-cam University I just turn one of these videos on and feel better about myself.
I live by the quote "There's 2 ways to do a job: The fast way and the right way."

Day before Thanksgiving, customer comes in wanting a Oil Change on her vehicle.
Service Advisor see that the vehicle has a pending update (Rapid Service Update, not exactly a recall, but we should fix it as it was a error from the factory, vehicles are not called in for these)
She apparently flipped, and stated that we were full of it as her radio updates the car all the time.
So when the oil techs came to get her car 10 minutes after it arrived, she wasn't ready for us to take it.
She also wanted free stuff to make it up to her. She said that when her vehicle comes in, it's always some extra thing that needs work that always cost her more.
Yeah, she ended up leaving, stating that she was going to another shop.

Another unnamed shop is more often than not just the customer not wanting to admit they tried and failed to fix it themselves.

When the customer won't say who the "other shop" is - it's the customer. Or some friend or relation who is "real good with cars."
