Craziest thing I personally seen that caused a tire puncture was a push rod from a small V8. The rod went in the tire between the tread valleys somehow and was rolling around inside. He, and us, figured it was just a gonna be some random chunk of metal. I walked in the lobby with a big smile and told him he won. All puzzled he asked what I meant and I reached in my pocket and said 'You won a push rod'. Still staring at me he says 'is THAT what was in the tire?!'
Definitely a highlight of my tire shop days.

I have been qualified mechanic for 50+ years and I live in a country that has 6 montly safety inspection and now yearly inspections for cars under 20 years old, any kind of structural rust gets rejected until repaired by a certified bodyshop, even tho our roads never get salt on them we have many 30-40 year old cars with barely surface rust under the car, most of problems are caused by internet repairers, good for busy Monday mornings.... 90% of these chassis related problems would not occur because of our safety regulations.we do have a great number of Xbox thought driver fatalities. Those auto adjust timing chains are the best. Who needs tension in a chain anyway. I also love spun bearings and thin rotors and pads. I also love when the piston of the caliper doubles as a brake pad and backing plate. Brake pads and meaty rotors are so over rated anyway. Being dead serious, i replaced my wifes front pads and rotors back in may....the parts i threw away would make for new parts vs the crap i see here. I love my wife so having good brakes is reassuring.

Not a official mechanic but did work in the auto feild for years and I cant agree more. My daughters boyfriend is forever saying there is this problem that problem this needs fixed and diagnosing it himself. The same guy who said he would help me change my front brake pad cuz he knew what to do but put them on backwards. Yet when I look at it tell him what I believe to be wrong or there is no issue he says, "well I dont have the money or I will have my uncle look at it". He works 5 days a week and comes home at least 3 of those days with a new "problem". Plus I have had to fix 6 of his uncle the "mechanic" fuck ups in 2yrs. Not to mention he pays his uncle but not me. But because his uncle is a "man" and had his own "repair" shop he knows more than I do. Hey I am no certified mechanic just a gal who is a shade tree for her own cars but Im not a know it all who wont ask for help or refuses to admit Im unsure of what wrong or how to fix it. There is a repair shop near me that I turn to when I need help and the owner is awesome. We met when I worked at the salvage yard and have been friends since. In the last 6yrs or so he started teaching the mechanic class at one of our college's. He has had so many cars come in that this dude has either misdiagnosed, messed up or had it duct taped together. There have been times he even turned people away when he found out that this guy worked on their car. Especially the ones who have their car diagnosed and a quote for repairs done but decide to take it to this guy cuz he was cheaper. I dont blame him though honestly.

My shop had the sign you've probably seen before: "The shop rate is $50 an hour; $60 if you want to watch; $70 if you worked on it first" I never understood why people aren't honest with mechanics, or at least honest with themselves about their level of mechanical knowledge. When I worked at a parts store I dreaded weekends when guys would have their wives/girlfriends call about parts. I'm sure they were trying to avoid having to say "I don't know" directly to a "man" when asked about something they actually didn't know.

    • @jenniferrogers2624

@@fasillimerick7394 in all fairness when I work in automotive there was plenty of guys who dont know anything about cars also. I loved what I did. To be honest I would much rather deal with someone who is unaware than a "know it all" smart-ass lol. Or the guys that would call and tell me they wanted to speak to a man because a woman dont know anything about cars. My boss at the salvage yard gave me the green light on those crotch goblins. I will be the first to admit that I dont know, Im unsure or I would speak to one of the guys about their request. If you wanted to buy a part from that salvage yard they was going to talk to me respectfully and not like the son moms wished she would have swallowed🤣. If they wanted to continue to disrespect me all of the cars they needed parts for we just crushed the day prior🤣. Opps sorry dude your screwed. Some men welcomed women into the auto world with respect and decency though. Even though I cant work at a job now I do all my own repairs on our 3 cars and enjoy doing it.

@Scratchingforcash, yep! I couldn't help but laugh a bit though as the oil starting spewing, "The Beverly Hillbillies" came to mind "...up came bubbl'n crude..."😂That was some seriously black oil. I'd be wondering about the health of the engine and the change intervals they're using. It just reminds me of how carboned-up engines look when people haven't changed the oil in forever. And speaking of "engine health", something people might want to consider is that if it's been a while, change the oil & filter if you know you're vehicle is coming up for an emissions inspection soon because degraded engine oil can increase emissions.

some things I learned about the USA:
    - The average state of an average car is comparable to uncivilized bushmen with absolutely no sense for at leaste a minimum of technical safety.
    - The average driving skill of an average driver is not measurable; you can just go into the next DMV, pay a ludicrous fee, and get a driving license in return. There is no skill at all.
    - They call themself the "Land of Freedom" ... free to kill each other with murderess technical state of cars, without any signs or remorse or even understanding.

@@stevie-ray2020 Here in Germany we also get salt on the streets during winter but I never saw rot like that on a vehicle here. Maybe these cars get off the streets much earlier as we have do to safety inspections every 2 years. If they find something dangerous like structural damage (and the cars in the videos are way beyond this) you won't be allowed to drive off.

Very stupid question, but how do these vehicals get this bad? In the UK we have anual roadworthy test called the MOT, it is a legal requirement to pass this or the car is classed unroadworthy until fixed, our cars could never get to this state as it would be picked up early. Are there not roadworthy tests in the US?

sometimes i think here in germany it is not too bad to drive the car to the TÜV every two years. They check the car completly for technical issues and look over all safety components. If your car failed you want be allowed to drive it until the issues are fixed.

I had a 05 Sebring that would do the no electrical system thing like that lincoln...headlights would shut off too, they were auto so you could flip them to manual and that seemed to fix the problem...till it did it again. It was completely random so was never able to duplicate it, car would keep going but man a dark rural road and suddenly everything shuts off on you but the engine is concerning.

Same thing happens every now and then in my 07 Prius. Supposedly it's cause a cap or something goes bad. Unplugging then replugging in the battery fixes it, for now. Eventually it'll stop fixing it. Thankfully it doesn't happen while driving.
