All for the cruise control. I barely used mine when it worked, and when I broke the sensor while adjusting the clutch, I never missed it. I always worried that the thing wouldn't disengage when I pressed the brake or clutch...
@@catjudo1 Unless you have one of the shitty early cruise controls before engineering got it worked out, this has never been an issue. A decent cruise nowadays probably drive better than most drivers.

I remember being excited to get my first car and keep it in a decent state. How do some people get to this level baffles me.
Especially when most things you can look up on the internet and find step by step instructions which usually are on someone's UA-cam video.
Cars have become appliances that people need to get from A to B, nothing more. That's why we need self driving cars or BUSSES!
People want the nice fully loaded cars but are too cheap to pay for maintenance 😂
Lots of people don't like to drive. They consider it a hassle and a necessary evil and care not for making their experience better.

My brother's Hyundai showed a warning for the turn indicators. The dealer said it needed a new body control unit. He asked me about it as I am an electronics technician . I told him I don't have any experience with automotive systems but I would check the lamps and sockets, as the control unit might be seeing a high resistance due to corrosion.
He check them and sprayed contact cleaner in the sockets and the problem disappeared.

I got caught doing the same thing when my engine died and I thought it was an old ignition issue resurfacing. Then I remembered I had high centered the van like 6mo ago and that the gas tank was probably concave

I had just rolled into the shop like 5am one day, there was a guy under a customers car in the lot prying down the exhaust with a piece of fence post, he saw me and explained it was his friends car and if I could run him out a extension cord for his Sawzall. I said sure buddy gimme a minute. Called owner then the cops lol. Cat thief, smh😂

I had both cats cut from my '09 Express van:(( Had aftermarkets put on for about $850 + all the 02 sensors eventually went bad as well.
Check Engine light just came on again hope it's just evap leak..

The loose ground nut after 2 transmission changes and 3 torque converter changes is so real.
Seems insane to me. I mean grounds are the first thing you check when you have total failure right?
I went nuts checking my grounds in my 94' Camry one time when the issue was just the (singular) ignition coil.
@@rushnerdLoose ground on a painted metal body section is just the icing on the cake, star washers are not a solution went through 1/2 of my last car gained 2 mpg. A lot of scraping and spray paint.

@@rushnerd they pierced the factory paint with star washers to ground circuts it didn't work well.
The mechanic whose videos I watch has a good first check for any electrical or electrical-adjacent errors in any vehicle.
He checks for loose or corroded brake cables.

Then, before he even thinks of the parts cannon, he checks wire continuity.
Also remember, just because a part is new doesn't mean it's good.
I can't believe how many people don't see their brakes as vital. I worry about my brakes first and then everything else

That's what happens when you buy an overpriced status symbol car (Mercedes, etc.) to impress people you don't know and can't afford to actually maintain it.
It must be so satisfying for the tech to show the customer how simple the solution is, whether it's pushing a button on the dash to turn the rear lift gate on, or finding a bad ground.
Oh I probably wouldn't be a good fit for a repair shop for when a moron customer comes in and can't figure out something as simple as untangling a seatbelt, as I would go out of my way to shame them, which wouldn't be good for customer relations for the business.
Stupid people like what are shown in these videos should be publicly shamed for what some of these people are driving a potential accident, that will undoubtably involve some other innocent motorist in their well-maintained vehicle. We have to share the roads with ignorant morons.
After spending about half-an-hour and getting absolutely nowhere in changing a headlight bulb on my mum's car, I took it down to our local mechanic to see if he could figure it out. He saw the bulb we had, walked to the back of his garage, picked up another one then fitted the bulb with one hand in seconds whilst sitting on the front grille. He was very pleased with himself.
To be fair it wasn't even my fault - Halfords (UK car parts retailer) had the wrong product code in their catalogue. Or as he put it "they're a shower of lying b*stards".
Nope, it's a huge waste of time and you don't get paid for it.
To be fair, SOME of these vehicles should require a week-long training course for operators because of all the crap they put on them anymore. Then you have the poor ol' Granny types that didn't grow up with all this tech & nobody ever showed/taught them. HOWEVER, then there are some of these people that are pretty numb in the brain and between their lack of care/interest in automotive care & operation, PLUS their lack of knowledge/care about traffic law, it's a pretty scary combo of what we have going on out there on the roads anymore. It has become borderline mayhem!
I guess it depends how big their ego is. Some people like to help others without judging them.

The boat ramp is always a comedy show. I couldn't tell you the number of times people take the winch hook off and back down the ramp. Only to have the boat go shooting off the trailer. Or the one who backed in until the jetski in the back of his pickup started to float.

technically not a bad idea but then you must let that board dry for a couple of days with a fan blowing if not then a week , most pc parts can be cleaned with hot tap water but you must let it dry and left over water can cause a short

@4450krank stuff like this makes me wish we did have inspections where I'm at. Only time a vehicle is inspected in MD is when it's bought or sold. Even then, I question those inspections.
That's what I like: driving a Mercedes-Benz, brake disks down to paper-thin, but replacing them is too expensive! 🤦♂️

from working at a ford dealership in Grand Texas.
Customer states loud popping noise from rear of car above 50 MPH (The tech who pulled this asked me to ride along after confirming the noise, because he couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was coming from, in a Ford Escort)
Got on the freeway and verified the concern, noise coming from center of the roof.
I had him pull off at a gas station at the next exit. got out of the car, removed the Styrofoam Jack in the Box antenna ball from the centrally mounted roof antenna, which had been blowing in the wind and popping the top of the car. verified repair on the way back to the shop.

I was quoted around $1-1.2k to get the brakes replaced on my Suzuki hatchback.
I looked online to see if the hardware was really that expensive, and found all the parts for around $120.
For the $1k difference in price, you can literally buy every single tool to do it yourself in an hour or so, and have enough left over for a nice weekend vacation.
It's amazing how lazy/unmotivated most people are to learn a common skill, especially when it can save them a ridiculous amount of money.
$1k had better include brand new OEM calipers at that price

Or why you learn to do repairs. There are lots of things the majority of people can do on their own, with minimal tools. Not knowing isn't so bad, but you can save lots of money by doing some things on your own

2:09 To be fair. A lot of mechanics would do the same thing. It feels more and more often that guy's in the shop were just hired off the street and taught how to read error codes, and just change parts.
Surely if a shop tells you a part has to be replaced, but it doesn't fix the issue, then you don't have to pay.

It's refreshing when the mechanics can actually diagnose a problem; some channels have horror stories of lazy and/or incompetent mechs failing badly, and firing the Parts Cannon repeatedly to no avail except running up a big bill for the customer.
Guy gets car towed to another shop because the price is "too high". Feel like the price of the tow is going to make the price difference negligible at best and more than what they were quoted at worst.
Also, I hope the cops were called on the dude with the open beer bottle and breathalyzer in the car...
A good tip about your car's electrical problems that I have learned through personal experience, make sure your mechanic has already checked the wiring, all ground connections and the fuse box before changing anything, which, will save you a lot of money, because there are a lot of mechanics out there that will tell you something is wrong with your car without checking basic things.
Step A for me is always ask the customer what has recently been done or happened. Been told by former managers/service writers don't. I swear by it, gives you a good read on the customer/vehicle.. I don't care if you spilled your beer, ran over a animal ect. .. 😉
Maybe I'm just a cynic, but I bet most mechanics would assure you they've checked everything and roll their eyes about another customer telling him how to do the job...
But if a mechanic told me to replace a part and it didn't fix the issue, I'm not paying for that part!

I did a brake job including pads and rotors on my car a couple months ago but the car ended up having a mechanical failure on the ABS module to the point where I had to get the entire module replaced, but when I look at how other people do work on their own cars, I look at the brake job I did and I’m so proud of myself. Only one brake would stick and it was because that side of the pump would not flow the fluid back properly, something that I really couldn’t have anticipated anyway. Otherwise the work I did was perfect and by the book as far as anyone else was concerned, and everything is working just fine.
Next time, open up the bleeder screws or replace the calipers. Keep the brake fluid fresh.
Even though I'm not a mechanic I know how most things work on a car, but it never occurred to me that the piston would just fly right out of the caliper if given the chance - hilarious!
Yep. They pop right out of the rubber seals. Just brake fluid behind them and nothing holding them in when they don’t hit the back of a brake pad or rotor first.

also, with electrical parking brakes, there is a mechanism behind it that would fall apart when the piston falls out. you need a specialist to put it back in, so the caliper is effectively destroyed... with some vehicles, if left alone the actuator might engage the parking brake on it's own without warning, which is why they need to put into mainenance mode to avoid accidents.
What kind of car has a power lift gate knob 😂 I'd be stumped with that one too

well maybe one should try looking if they can find the origin of the noise, but otherwise i agree.
but if the driver can't be bothered to at least get to know what features their car has (mirror guy), they'd do better to hand over their keys and start walking

A true story….it takes place in San Francisco a fellow trade show union coworker received a large inheritance. So he goes out and buys an early Lamborghini Countach 1980’s square wheel arches . One night probably after over revving the motor( it was making noise under the valve cover ) he decided to take the engine apart.
Disaster…..so if you see an 1980’s white Lamborghini 😊

Is there some sort of medical condition regarding the ear where people can hear sounds but not tell which direction the sound is coming from? This site has so many clips, like the rolling apple, where customers can't seem to locate where the noise in their vehicle is coming from.

It’s an interesting question, the short answer being yes. How much it may apply to individual roll-ins (as opposed, say, to laziness) is another. See the topics Spatial Hearing Loss and Sound Localization.
If you have no (or limited) hearing in one ear, it's really hard to identify sound direction, especially in a confined space. I know, because as I've aged I have virtually lost hearing in my left ear.

Long story short, my neighbor, who knows nothing about how to fix or work on cars, knows I'm a retired mechanic, and, (master in fact of 40 years) he has his hood up both he and his wife are staring into what to them is the abyss but to us the Engine and all its friends. I swear they propped the hood up to bait me lol like best way to catch a friendly neighborhood mechanic and meanwhile I'm like yeah I could use so quick cash.
He heard slapping and AC went out they can't afford to take it in don't know what to do, I'm thinking.....yup Belt. And right there in front of him is the naked AC pulley...he felt dumb when I told him what's wrong.
He said I have no idea how to change this...I said I could do it. By they way this is a 2003 Chrysler 300M. I know still running and everything. But this and the concord were famously tight spaces to work on.
Don't get me wrong I do like to help people, and he asked how much and how long?
I said 30 bucks and about 25 maybe 30 min unless I run into trouble....I'm retired folks for a reason.
He said okay so I told him might as well get the other belt too when you go to the parts store as it has to come off anyway to get that back V Belt on.

So, 3pm comes I am in my mechanic overalls I sewed a Black cat heat patch to an open pocket it's that cat with the face like WTH is that noise or are you sure you know what you're doing kind of look...I named him Mr. Peppers...
As I walk nextdoor I stop in my tracks as me and Mr. Peppers have a sight to behold. The cars Hood is up my neighbor stands in the driveway with his head down and the other belt in his hand,
The front of the car is just torn apart...
He hands me the belt, I look down past my open hand and see coolant on the driveway, my eyes focus back into my open hand as he places not one and not two of two idle and tension pulleys but their brackets....
I start to speak, "What,,, happened,,,,,, to,,," he hands me the broke off oil dipstick and I yell the rest, "WAITING FOR ME!!! ???"
He said I don't know how to put it back together he says I a sort of sad kid way lol.
I said well wish me luck...
He asked why?
Because I have one experience with the Concord and the Intrepid and both are the same platform but slightly different, but honestly this was going to be my first 300M.
He asked I thought you are a mechanic?
I absolutely am, I am a freaking fantastic mechanic, but we are all tried on how to follow a mental breadcrumb on taking things apart and having years upon years of experience means I know not only how to do that, but what doesn't need to come off, or how or why or what it is....my God man, As I look around and he has one generic craftsman tool set socket and rachet set and a couple of open box end wrenches...he said I stopped when I couldn't take anything else off and found the belt could have come off 25 steps ago..
You Think, is all I said.
I felt for him, I sat down looking at this beautiful bastard and his stupidity of bravery..
He asks can you fix it?
I look up and say, is the Pope Catholic?
He smiles, what can I do to help he asks?
Nothing is right guys! I said well, you got a beer? I'm absolutely going to need one...he says right away as many as you want...
He comes back with a cold one he asks want me to just stay out of the way?
I looked up at him drinking that beer and said nope, you kidding you are going to be my assistant and I'll need you to hand me stuff.... including more beer.
He asked how long will it take you think? I said well, remember when I said 25 or 30 min depending on if I run into trouble? Yeah?
Well, you were the trouble and it now will not be 30 min...
Because I didn't want to work well into the night I was only able to do between 2 or 3 hours, he turned a 25 min job into 3 days he had so much stuff apart, more than what he handed me.
But I was able to get his new belt on and all back together. He paid me way more then 30 bucks oh I added 5 bucks more so 35 bucks due to oil stick repair...he asked next time tell me how you would have not broken the dip stick?
I said I would have waited for the mechanic, he asked but what would have done?
I showed him removing it lol.
The plastic was melted in the tube I had to cut off ¼" of the tube body and then with a Dremel and a shop vac perform what I can only imagine what must be like coronary artery surgery removing plaque....sigh. bad attempts at trying to remove the remaining dipstick.
Well believe it or not this was the short version, sorry long, and I'm not editing typos as this was on my phone and the box is tiny to edit all this.
So yeah, I am amazed at what people do, I shouldn't be, but I am...lol

Parking brake motor. Reason #167 why I hate these things being electronic now.
A lot of people are actually too feeble to operate the manual E brakes I've found. However this can be overcome with a release lever design instead of making them electronic.
All modern cars are designed by 14-year old computer nerds. Why use something as simple as a lever and a cable that has done the job efficiently for a hundred years when you can have a hugely expensive piece of electronic gadgetry that will inevitably go wrong, immobilise your car and cost a fortune to fix? Progress? - I don't think so....

The person who removed the caliper to drive it to the garage instead of towing gets my support. Funky tiedown, but a worthy move. Next time just remove the pads. The rest of them are crazy :)
If you remove the pads, then the pistons hit the rotors. And that's even if you can while the parking brake is engaged
I had to ask. I had no idea! my chatGTP question : I HAVE A 2002 ford e150. does the piston in the front caliper have a stop travel on it? If i remove the brake pads and hit the pedal, will the piston pop out without pads? Response : On a 2002 Ford E150 (as well as most vehicles), the front brake caliper piston does not have a built-in "stop travel" per se. If you remove the brake pads and depress the brake pedal, there's a risk that the piston could over-extend and pop out of the caliper bore.
If the piston pops out, it can cause brake fluid to leak and introduce air into the system. At the very least, this will necessitate bleeding the brakes, but if the piston or caliper seals are damaged in the process, more extensive repairs or replacement might be necessary.
If you're working on your brakes and need to push the piston back into the caliper to accommodate new, thicker brake pads, use a brake caliper tool or a C-clamp while ensuring the brake fluid reservoir does not overflow. Always ensure that the piston is compressed straight back into its bore to avoid binding or damage.
In general, it's good practice not to depress the brake pedal when the pads are removed. If you're checking piston movement or brake function, you can insert a block of wood or an old brake pad in the caliper to simulate the presence of the brake pad and prevent the piston from over-extending.@@counterfit5

I commend the people who take their car to the mechanic for something rolling around in the cabin.
They hear an unusual sound and realize it's a problem and get it checked out rather than ignoring it.
It's fun to laugh at because most people who watch this channel have some sort of mechanic skill, but they do not, so taking it to a mechanic is their best option.
Having a quick look first would’ve been their best option but, yeah, the people who ignore sounds like that are definitely the ones who deserve the criticism!
Im sorry but infant level problem solving skills can easily diagnose an apple rolling around or even buttons that operate functions.

Wrong. Dumb comment. The point of those clips is that it's something SO COMPLETELY OBVIOUS that it's ridiculous they took it to a shop without literally even turning their head to the side or being aware of WHAT THEY THEMSELEVES PLACED INSIDE THE CAR.

I feel bad about the guy with the mirrors stuck in the closed position. Cars can be so complicated and unintuitive anymore. They should be designed to be easier to operate instead of more difficult.
"Intuitive" it's not fucking quantum physics and they don't design cars to be iq tests.
This "problem" required two things to fix
1. Being able to read the manual
2. Being able to follow what I imagine to be the incredibly simple instructions, something I am quite sure an average 6 year old could follow.
Or you can do what this numpty did and embarrass yourself.

It's worth mentioning that a lot of these really simple things, like the lift gate or the power windows not working, are almost always really old people who get confused and can't figure out really simple things. I worked in an auto shop in high school and older folks would stop in to get really simple things "fixed" all the time. They really shouldn't be driving but because the US is so car oriented they can't really survive without a car. If someone told me that 30% of all drivers over the age of 60 in the US weren't mentally/physically fit to drive I would absolutely believe them.
