Love the system - reminds me of my chip bagger. A flexi tub with no bottom. Stand it in a bag, four shovels of chippings, lift out the tub and hey presto the bag is full of woodchip! Simplest ideas are sometimes the best 👍🏻
@@InTheWoodyard lots of gardeners use it as a mulch around their plants and to add to their compost to enrich it. I don’t sell it, I give it away as I need it out of the way as quickly as possible. I advertise it online and it’s usually gone within a couple of hours - I also have a lot of people message me asking to be told when the next lot is ready for pick up! I do know of someone local to me who sells it by the bulk bag for a minimum charge, but they have the space to store it all until it’s gone.
I think the best thing would be if you two get together and process and deliver! I would be so fast because one could cut the other split! Keep it up guys!

With scrap lumber, you can have a free-standing bundle station with only the center of the bundle supported and put a few wraps on each end to make the bundle. Essentially it is a bundle machine cradle with the supporting ends moved together with a central post to support it with the top of the bundle station being open. Less messing around by not having to find the perfect piece to finish off the bundle.
I was going to give you the same exact advice, but the Firewood Physician said it much better! The bundles seem to be sturdier that way also. If you were willing to modernize up to the Iron Age, 3 sided angle iron squares would speed your production, and save a few splinters in your wrist, too!! I'm surprised how comfortable you are with that store-bought shrink wrap stuff!! No stone or flint knives anywhere!! OK class. It'll be on the Final. Who invented the first wheel? The square one.. And who was Alley Oop?
What I got as well… I continued to calculate: 1 cord equals 128 cubic feet so in a cord there are something like 146 bundles of that size, each one for 2.50$ makes 365$. For a full cord nit-bundled and splitted to normal size it’s quite the same. The work almost only replaces the delivery, correct?

They're up to $8 in the Tops near me... Another guy has them for $5- all Ash, and they're bigger, too. (I bought a $20 bin off him, and it's darn good stuff.) He's just making some extra $$ off cleaning out all of his dead Ash trees, is what he told me. $5 seems to be the norm for a bundle around here, going by Marketplace. (W NY) I'm sure the guys that sell near the camping areas are smart enough to charge more, if customers are willing to pay it. I saw the ones at Tops, and just laughed and shook my head. I have a saw, a couple of axes, some racks- and all the free maple I'd ever want to cut up that say "BWAAAHAHAHA!! I'm not paying that." For kindling, I have all the sticks, twigs, fallen branches- and splitting debris I could ever use. (sorry Kenny!) Plenty of spruce to split up, if I want pretty smelling kindling.
That I pretty much how i do my kindling bundles here also. I keep all my run off strips from my sawmill roughly 1 inch by 1 to 3 inches cut them up at 16 inches and bundle them up around 12 inches by 12 inches and it works like a charm. You will get the chance to see all of that when you come visit Chris lol 😂
I think Ken's bundler is great! It's really not much slower than one of those fancy ones, maybe a little slower but for light bundles like those it's absolutely fine. It's firewood guys, it's not a high a profit margin business so keep the costs down, I say.
Nice job on your bundler,if I were you I would go to your nearest lumber yard and have them metal strap them and you won't have to worry about them coming loose

Chris, I thought your were frugal, but Kenny makes you look like a spendthrift. However, quite rightly, basic kit always works, and works well. It works out to about $365 / full cord. I think he has wanted a ballast box for a while, but had to stay with the ‘sausages’ to prove a point! All good stuff, and very entertaining!
That works pretty good. A cheap “upgrade” if you will would be to have one side 1” larger both dimensions. Put it in the small side then if the shape is off a little it can still easily get put together without getting stuck.
Mine first one was simular put it on a saw horse top was open wrapped the ends with the same wrap. Then I bought a used electric bundler for 1500 10 years later still using it
Nothing wrong with cheep and simple, and upgrade later.. Chris I make new parts and tools for the Mazda Rotary Engines..I have allways had engine stands around when rebuilding. The 1st time I seen a guy use a 5gal bucket I was impressed..

Pine rules around here, I sell about 20 to 30 cords worth of it a summer in firewood bags, all from my roadside stand. Tourists love it. 10 x 9” = .6225 of a square foot Approx 52 of bundles per face cord (32sf per face cord) 52 x $2.50 (Ken sells 2 for $5?) = $130 per face cord $130 x 3 = $390 per cord if pcs 16” long
I believe Ken said he paid $70 per face cord that means he's paying $210 per full cord... cutting it all splitting it stacking it storing it and then bundling it and then selling it for $390 a full court sounds like a big loss to me
None o these bundles here in Maine. We use softwood blowdowns from trail clearings for those quick morning/evening quickie fires. Cedar may, may, be in the mix butt mostly spruce and fir. You guys are in business. I just need to warm buns... especally for she who must be obeyed. You twins whining about 5 degrees ? Whew. Hey, BTW, how do you cook and eat beaver ?
That bundler is just about perfect. Now if he had a way to make it so you didn't have to hold it to wrap it ... Get to thinking Ken... Wait how about a truck bed high leg on just one then leave the other one on the truck bed. You're still going to have to go around the thing but you won't have to lift it. Now that that's in writing I'll take 20% of the patent and we'll both be hundredaires in 30 years. But seriously I think that one leg would save you a lot of moving the bundle.
Can you make two pieces like a u-shape plywood backing it up? That way you can lay it in real fast pull a bungee strap over to secure then warp. It just seems like it takes forever inserting wood. ???

If I split it down to no more than 3" tick it is dry in about 8-9 months, if it is 5" or more 12-16 months if it is 8 or more 2 years. Thanks for watching Robert!

After struggling with some gnarly 35" red oak rounds with the maul and sledge and wedges and axe and hickory mallet, I've decided I need a chainsaw and I want a good brand rather than buying three cheap ones over and over. There's a used one near me: Stihl MS 290 (56cc, 18" bar). I know you're a Husqvarna guy, but is that a solid first firewood start-up business chainsaw? It's going for $300. PS. Love the channel, congrats on the processor.
Sounds good to me, but...Eyeball the side of the piston via the exhaust before you shell out (you'll need to remove the muffler to do it... probably a T27 torx driver) Scratches down the side are not good; nice and shiny is good to go... Caveat Emptor 👍🇦🇺💪🪓

Yep, that's how mine are made. 3pcs of 2x8 screwed together. Set it on the tailgate like they are here and get after it.

If you put the bundle vertical before you wrap it , then build a rotary device that wraps the bundle from above .

$130 x 3 = $390 per cord if pcs 16” long

I believe Ken said he paid $70 per face cord that means he's paying $210 per full cord... cutting it all splitting it stacking it storing it and then bundling it and then selling it for $390 a full court sounds like a big loss to me

Put the two end on end and load from the top it will be much quicker and easier to handle!!

None o these bundles here in Maine. We use softwood blowdowns from trail clearings for those quick morning/evening quickie fires. Cedar may, may, be in the mix butt mostly spruce and fir.

Yes Chris I'm one of those math nerds as long as the bundles are 9x10.5x16 they equal. 875 cubic feet. So that's approximately 146 bundles per cord.

That bundler is just about perfect. Now if he had a way to make it so you didn't have to hold it to wrap it ... Get to thinking Ken... Wait how about a truck bed high leg on just one then leave the other one on the truck bed. You're still going to have to go around the thing but you won't have to lift it. Now that that's in writing I'll take 20% of the patent and we'll both be hundredaires in 30 years. But seriously I think that one leg would save you a lot of moving the bundle.
Maybe a stand instead of a leg so you can still rotate the bundle to fill the bundle. Some where between a I beam and a saw horse

Can you make two pieces like a u-shape plywood backing it up? That way you can lay it in real fast pull a bungee strap over to secure then warp. It just seems like it takes forever inserting wood. ???

don't know what happened there, some of my message disappeared, long story short, how long does your oak take to dry and what moisture content do you get it down too. great channel once again.
If I split it down to no more than 3" tick it is dry in about 8-9 months, if it is 5" or more 12-16 months if it is 8 or more 2 years. Thanks for watching Robert!
The sad part is Kenny's getting less per face cord in bundles than Chris gets for bulk delivered. But with the price of gas at least he doesn't have to deliver. Welcome to the sticks were people burn wood to keep warm. That's were I sell firewood too! So I feel Kenny's pain.
Yup, that is a good point, some people think you can charge what ever you want but your market area will determine that for you.
Kenny's bundles are .875 cubic feet. A face chord is 42.66 cubic feet.

Oak is very wet wood, split it as soon as possible, it will take a long time to dry, like a year!

After struggling with some gnarly 35" red oak rounds with the maul and sledge and wedges and axe and hickory mallet, I've decided I need a chainsaw and I want a good brand rather than buying three cheap ones over and over. There's a used one near me:
Stihl MS 290 (56cc, 18" bar). I know you're a Husqvarna guy, but is that a solid first firewood start-up business chainsaw? It's going for $300.

Sounds good to me, but...Eyeball the side of the piston via the exhaust before you shell out (you'll need to remove the muffler to do it... probably a T27 torx driver) Scratches down the side are not good; nice and shiny is good to go... Caveat Emptor 👍🇦🇺💪🪓
