    "I can do this all day" was Steve's thing... not Captain America's... remember Steve was saying that even before he became a super soldier. It was just who he was. Never gave up. Never backed down from a fight. Even if he was completely outmatched. I'm glad that Sam didn't say it. He can flip and smack people with his shield and give inspiring speeches, that's fine, that's what Captain America does. But NEVER surrendering when you know you're right and always standing up to bullies even if it means you're going to lose or get your ass kicked.... that's what Steve Rogers does. Don't take that from him.

      So glad you said this about Steve Rogers catch phrase "I can do this all day". My thoughts exactly in WHT it wouldn't be right for Sam to have said them too. So many fans didn't seem to understand this point at all, just like they kept wanting Sam to take the serum. Why should he ? What made the first Captain America who he was was mainly the man inside...that pure hearted Steve Rogers who was the driving force behind Captain America becoming so popular and admired by so many. That's also why John Walker, regardless of how hard he tried and his good intentions, could never be the Captain America Steve was. In fact Walker even said he wasn't trying to replace Steve, just trying to be the best Captain America he could be. The problem for Walker was that the government chose him for the wrong,or at least superficial reasons.
      As for Sam not taking the serum...he never did in the comics either..thus just speaks to his nature/personality. He's going to rely on his brains and technology to do his Captain America job....making him a bit more like Iron Man, something everyone keeps forgetting. Tony's strength came from his brains and technology, not a super soldier serum. No real need for Sam to have the serum when he has Wakandan tech to rely on...he does need to vary his fighting styles though.

      Yeah but that’s the point of Captain America. What drives the mantle. It’s been said multiple times in the comics that Captain America stands up to bullies, does what’s right no matter the consequences. So that’d be silly to basically act like ‘not giving up’ is just Steve’s thing, he passed it down with the shield 💀

    It’s important to understand that what made Captain America a staple was actually Steve Rogers. His goodness and overall character that was willing to do what he had to for justice.
    Instead of focusing on the character and judgement skills, John Walker was chosen solely because of him being a good solider. Who could not only fight but follow orders and that is exactly what makes him break in the episode. The pressure of being good and following orders broke him along with loosing his best friend and conscience.
    Also the irony of USA basically having Captain America as a this influential, almost godly figure when in civil war he was the one who went against the accords and branded as a criminal.

      *Bucky dies*
      "I am not gonna stop until all of Hydra is either *dead* or captured."
      Notice how he not only puts dead as an alternative, but actually the first option. You think Steve really asked the Hydra people to surrender first? Just because we didn't see him go on a revenge driven killing spree, does not mean it never happened.
      The only thing that broke him was seeing his best friend die.

      Being 'a good soldier' was the reason why Colonel Philips wanted to choose Hodge over Steve for Project Rebirth. Erskine refused because Hodge was a bully. Then Steve jumped on a dummy grenade, the rest was history.

    I really appreciate how much focus is given on the entire racism factor. It’s a touchy topic for most people but it is a very big problem. Racism doesn’t just involve bullying or slur calling. It’s that look or act of judgment all because of a persons skin tone. And that is exactly what Sam will have to face. Most super hero movies don’t dive into such things because it’s like the person is a hero so automatically pass to everything.

    @22:47 - the full inscription on Isaiah's memorial reads:-
    Isaiah Bradley is an American hero whose name went unknown for too long.
    Isaiah was one of a dozen African-American soldiers who were recruited against their will and without their consent for participation in human testing in pursuit of the super soldier serum. Most did not survive. The few who lived through testing were sent on secret missions during the Korean War. During the conflict, against all odds, Isaiah Bradley rescued his fellow soldiers and 28 other POWs from behind enemy lines.
    However, fearful of the ramifications of a black super soldier, some individuals within the government tried to erase Isaiah's story from history. His family was issued a falsified death certificate. And for decades, the truth of his unflinching bravery was buried.

    What this series does well is take Erskine's line from the first Captain America movie and shows what happens when just that happens;
    "Whatever happens tomorrow, you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are, not a perfect soldier, but a good man."
    Walker was a good soldier who wanted to be a good man where Steve was a good man wanting to be a good soldier. It also feels like Walker is suffering some kind of PTSD which when mixed with super soldier serum is always going to end badly.

    • @CedricBassman
      @CedricBassman 2 роки тому

      Walker IS a good man.
      The only difference between him and Steve were that Steve got the Serum while he was still innocent.
      Walker took it AFTER he experienced the horrors of War, after he lost Friends.
      The serum amplifies everything. This is where you can see Karli and her people werent good people, the Serum didn't make them bad, they were already bad before.
      Walker struggled, but in the end he came out on Top and made the right choices, good choices. If he was not a good man, he wouldn't have tried to save these people.

    • @doomse150
      @doomse150 2 роки тому +1

      But to be fair, we rarely saw Steve actually losing someone important to him in battle. The only time that happened was when Bucky seemingly died on that train, and he beat up those goons pretty good. It just wasn't shown in such a graphic way. Also notice how the killing move was the exact one that Cap used on Tony in the end of Civil War, only Tony's suit could tank such a strike without Tony getting killed.
      Bottom line is that the whole comparison isn't as much good vs bad as people make it out to be.

    • @Gray_Scale675
      @Gray_Scale675 2 роки тому +1

      @@doomse150 I think people really exaggerated how bad Walker was in the heat of the moment when they were first watching the show, me included, but now after a year of it being out and being able to look back on it more, more people are seeing that Walker isn’t a bad person more of a misguided and struggling one. The world isn’t black and white anymore like it was in the 40s. It isn’t just good guys versus bad guys. There are lots and lots of grey areas and Walker is in one of them. He proved at the end though that deep down he is a good person, he is just struggling with lots of trauma and the loss of his best friend.

    Oh we are at the end. The last two episodes, also known as the ones where Bucky and Sam become besties. Episode 5 and the ending of episode 6 are my favorite parts. Just seeing Bucky being part of a community and family makes me feel so warm. We can also see him getting more comfortable. At the beginning he is wearing his gloves and after more and more time he has his whole arm visible. Also he is got more confident in himself and less scared of being out of control. Like when he lets the kids dangle from his arm, the thing that used to be the most dangerous part of him when he didn´t have control. Sam is our Cap now which I love, honestly I would love to see Bucky to have the shield sometimes, but now is Sam´s time to shine. It´s what Steve felt like was right at the moment. This series has its heartbreaking moments but overall it is quite feel good tv show and it´s just about two guys becoming best friends, Steve would love to see it.

    That boat is a metaphor for a lot of things.
    Notice how Sam is a much better therapist than the psychiatrist. That's what he was doing before Steve Rogers showed up.
    Here's the thing about Sam using the shield: he doesn't have superpowers, but because he can fly, he can add a lot of velocity to that shield when he throws it.

    Here's what I will say about John. He is damaged goods from trauma caused by being a war vet a few times over. Seeing things like that seeps into your brain and becomes part of your dna. Sam is a rare case. Him being a counselor probably helped that he already knows the tools to work through that. Tony went through PTSD after New York's battle. Each person reacts differently once something traumatic happens to them.
    John was wrong for killing that guy.
    And yet, I had to think about that too. Yes. They killed Lemar by accident, but they were all there to murder Walker and parade his body to the world in order to make a statement. And yes, it's wrong to kill, but.... how much sympathy did he deserve?
    Walker would have been dead if he didn't take that formula and his reflexes didn't get faster. That guy threw that blade at his throat with such force that the blade was stuck in til the handle.
    And they all assumed Walker was just a non powered man, whom they could easily kill with their super strength.
    Steve had a pure heart, but he got the serum before seeing battle. So maybe it would have made him harder, or maybe just like he turned out.
    On top of Walker having to deal with no cooperation from Sam and Bucky, an escaped Zemo on his watch, a group who has now bumped themselves into terrorists, and pressure from the American government to show some results and make them look good....he is carrying a lot on his shoulders.
    Now, his best friend from childhood, and who he's survived several tours with, was just murdered in front of him.
    Yeah...there was no way he wasn't going to short fuse.
    ..Notice his head ticks when he was attacked with the blade?
    Notice his hand shaking after he bludgeoned that guy and stood there holding the shield? That was the effects of the serum. He was also in an alert adrenaline state because of the attack.
    It's like the serum is definitely messing with his mind. Add that plus: alpha testosterone, war trauma, government/media pressure, and the fresh murder of his best friend together and you've got a powder keg waiting to blow up.
    One could say the same about Karli. She is an angry displaced young woman who took the serum. All that anger built up in her and she is now obsessed with getting her way, no matter what it takes. She is leading her people to hell for doing extreme things, like murder.
    Sam was getting through to her and had so much sympathy for her, but why not give the same consideration to Walker?
    Walker is trying to be "the man with the shield" because it's the same dog and show pony as they used to make Steve do, til he disobeyed the government and made a house hold name for himself by becoming a real hero.
    Karli is young, but old enough to know how to make the right choice. The speech Sam gave to Zemo about blood shed not being the answer is also exactly what he should have said to Karli in more detail. I guess either way, she wasn't going to listen to him, because she was determined to carry out her desperate agenda.
    Doing evil in the name of justice or good is more sinister than just being pure evil, because you fool yourself.
    Walker does need to learn that there are more heroes on the board now. The world outside of the U.S. don't really care about him....a lot in the U.S. feel the same.
    To him, maybe this was a different war, and he didn't want to lose any longer. It's still a tragedy that the serum screwed with an already messed up mind.
    The government threw him under the bus and took away all of his earned military benefits, which is what they could have done to Steve if he stayed under their control. Steve used guns and has killed war criminals in his day. That was in his 1st movie.
    Idt John is "Red Skull" evil....just "damaged goods" by serum corruption, that went too far on one of his attempted murderers.
    It's almost like he and Karli are two sides of the same coin. Only both have good agendas, just wrong executions of it.
    Bucky made his hero landing, so that makes it official. He's a superhero. 😁
    I hope to see Bucky in the next Wakanda movie, doing his duty to protect, as the White Wolf.
    Sam looked amazing in his vibranium costume.
    Bucky hanging out with Sam and his neighbors really gave him a since of belonging for the first time, since Wakanda. It was the first time he felt like his old 1940's self again...especially when he started flirting with Sarah...he got his swag back.🤣
    I truly believe Sharon is a Skrull in disguise, and she is going to be a big part of the Secret Invasion show.
    Sam, may show up in Armour Wars with Rhodes.

  • @Lightningrod75

    My guess is that the edge of the shield must be made of something other than vibranium. If the whole thing was made of vibranium, it should simply drop as soon as it hits a thing. There has to be a way that that energey gets redirected into bouncing about.

    • @doomse150
      @doomse150 2 роки тому

      It's not just the edge, the properties of the whole Shield frequently switch between being a perfect reflector (which explains the bouncing and the whole Mjolnir+Shield combo move) and being a perfect absorber (like when Peggy shoots at it in First Avenger and the bullets just drop down, or whenever it's used as fall dampening) depending on what is beneficial in that moment.
      It is in a way a convinience plot hole/device that everyone just accepted and ran with, which is a bit strange given that the Marvel fandom otherwise tends to be quite nitpicky with inconsistencies. But given that Vibranium has established itself as a form of high-tech ex machina anyways, it's not a big deal anymore.

    Some people may disagree with me, but John Walker was great and loved the acting, I feel like people just hate too much on him because he’s not Steve and he’s not perfect.

      Also, as a psychologist student who’s really interested in the clinical side, I love to see the toll that the war in Afganistán brought on John, how he wishes he could’ve done something better if he had the serum at the time and how the pressure he’s put throughout the show makes him snap. It’s great to see how they depict the reality of soldier, who are put through such horrors by men in suits and are then abandoned by their government, just like they did with John when he killed that guy, lost all privileges he could have gotten and left by himself, and all because of their image, if John had killed that guy in private he would be alright. As I said before, John is far from being a perfect guy and he’s got issues, and that’s what I love, characters that show a darker side because of their past.

      i liked them all and i liked john's development and as a character even if i don't like him personally... until the last epsiode
      the shift of him suddenly being 'cool' with bucky and sam randomly and cracking jokes was a bit jarring i feel like an epsiode or two in between epsiode 5 and 6 is what the series needed in general even though i get there wasn't as much to do for other characters but i feel like i needed some more epsiodes in between for john in particular to make a bit more sense and that's my gripe
      i don't mind him being a gray character and turning around because that's what his character has always been in the comics
      i just think the shift was a bit too fast too soon and this is why the last epsiode isx the weakest in my opinion even though i ADORE the issah stuff

      @@nightfrost1891 Agree. We needed a longer series to get to know the characters better and have better development. Still, U.S Agent is my favourite character from that series, he was great even though he couldn’t be fully understood and developed.

    sam becoming cap is so special to me, ive loved sam throughout the whole mcu, he stood by steve’s side when steve needed someone because sam knows what it’s like to lose your best friend, as sam lost his wing-man riley back when he was in the airforce and that is what made sam quit the force to become a counsellor for veterans, which is what sam was currently doing when he met steve in catws.
    sam was thrown into a giant mess and was nearly killed so many times but he still wanted to help, he wanted to help this brainwashed assassin bc steve told him that it was bucky, his friend from his childhood and we all know how loyal and brave sam is, of course he would want to help someone who had lost themselves and he sure as hell didn’t want to see steve go through what he himself had to when he lost riley.
    sam looked for bucky on his own when steve was fighting with the avengers, as sam says in age of ultron “i’m happy working on our missing persons case”
    sam is the best option for cap, steve trusted him and wanted it to be sam, sam is what the world needs right now and i couldn’t be happier.
    and bucky also wants it to be sam, he had his suit made as if he’s telling sam that “i believe in you, and i will be by your side, i will be your partner”
    bucky was so hurt when sam gave the shield away at the start of the show, this is bucky’s way of saying that he’s sorry for the way he acted and in a way, making his amends to sam as well, because bucky did try to kill sam when he was the winter soldier.
    to see that sam and bucky are now closer than ever is just so nice to see, as they’ve had a messy and rocky relationship for so long.
    sam brought the old man home with him, gave him a place to stay, a family if you will… it’s just the perfect ending 🥺💗

    The difference between the Avengers killing bad guys and Walker killing this Flag Smasher is that Walker actively pursued this guy and proceeded to murder him even as he pleaded for his life and ran in fear. The Avengers would accept this as a surrender and arrest the person instead of cutting their fucking head off in front of a crowd. Like Loki for example. They arrested him when he stopped fighting and put his hands up in defeat. They only kill when they must.

    The only thing I really disliked about this show was parts of Sam's little speech at the end... terrorist is not a pejorative, if used correctly. Terrorism is a tactic whereby people without much strength or power deliberately and openly attack non-military targets like random civilians or public places. Terrorists don't have any valid strategic goals; instead they seek to cause as much carnage and mayhem and chaos as possible, with the aim of scaring ordinary people into believing that they could be next, thus encouraging those ordinary people to put pressure on their leaders to change policy. THIS is the CORRECT definition of terrorism, and it SHOULD be called out and universally condemned. Only stupid and ignorant people believe that terrorism is a word applied to legitimate freedom fighters just to discredit their cause, or applied only to brown people or Muslims etc out of racism or bigotry. Terrorists absolutely should be called terrorists. Doesn't matter if their cause is just or not... that's completely missing the entire fucking point. The POINT is to attack the TACTIC of terrorism, not whatever cause the terrorists believe they are fighting for. If people would stop misusing the word all the time then we all SHOULD be able to agree on that.
    If you are too weak to win a real strategic military victory... and you still want to change things... then you need to do this by trying to change people's minds through WORDS, persuasion, maybe a peaceful protest here and there, hell, I'll even accept targeted industrial or corporate sabotage, fine... but terrorism (intentionally hurting random innocent people) is ALWAYS wrong. And in fact it's also usually counter-productive. So it's just a very stupid thing to do and it can and should be vigorously called out for what it is.
    Were Karli and the Flag Smashers terrorists? Well, yeah, a bit. They did kill random innocent people when they blew up that building. Though most of the stuff they did was more targeted and more strategic and thus should not be characterized as terrorism. But when they acted as terrorists... they were terrorists... and it's fair to call them that. And that's not to say that their cause was wrong. Like Seb said several times, it wasn't what Karli wanted that was wrong, it was how she went about trying to get it.

      "the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims."
      Escpecially doesnt mean exclusively. The Flag Smashers were Terrorists, accept it. They used violence and intimidation to pressure a political goal, textbook terrorism.
      What Karli wanted was not wrong, but completly delusional. You can't expect just bring 4 billion people back from the dead after 5 years and not expect the whole global infrastructure to collapse...AGAIN. There was a reason Food and Meds etc. were rationed, because there was simply not enough to go around. The Flag Smashers came into existence because Karli failed at basic Math.
