    Something to note: Shang-chi uses the rings as an extension of his king-fu/fighting style, where as the dad uses them as an extension of his arm (that’s why he shoots em, and punches with em), that’s why Shang-chi’s rings are stronger and an orange color like his moms.

    Really good movie. But you’re right - with this and the Eternals it’s a lot of new characters for the MCU with (one assumes) the X-Men and Fantastic Four possibly still to come. It will be interesting to see how they’re all incorporated into the overarching story.

    • @zTeaTheCoffee

      well, we know its all gonna go down in the next dr strange movie. its already pretty likely we'll get patrick stewart as charles xavier, john krasinski as mr fantastic, and maybe even a tom cruise superior iron man. i really dont doubt we'll get a shang-chi cameo in that movie, or maybe one in the future. all these new characters, like yelena and shang-chi, being introduced must be building towards something biig.

    • @rileyribble6733
      @rileyribble6733 2 роки тому +3

      @Rich Jermy the X Men are definitely on the way and Fantastic Four has already been officially announced, likely coming 2024 if I had to guess. But I think what’s happening is that due to how many teams and characters are in Marvel comics, along with the characters they’re introducing now, it’s becoming very apparent they’re branching off into several different storylines. There’s the cosmic based heroes with a story developing there, we have the multiverse story with Kang developing, and then we also have the supernatural corner of the universe developing with Blade, Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, presumably Ghost Rider and others. I think it’s going to be a long time before they all eventually overarch with each other, so for the next 5-8 years or so I definitely think it’s more so branching off. The big crossover point will probably come around 2030 or so for a Secret Wars crossover where some people from every corner and team come together

      @@zTeaTheCoffee That's not all. They're also introducing She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms.Marvel through Disney+ series. But they're also slowly phasing out the old characters. Stark and Widow both died in Endgame, Cap is as good as gone. Thor: Love and Thunder is Thor's final movie where he is reportedly handing over the role for Jane Foster to become the "Mighty Thor" (my prediction is that he will die in the movie). So yeah they're kinda transitioning to a new era of the MCU.

      Would you still feel that way if they made an MCU X-Men film that introduced 10 X-Men who are new to the MCU? Or are you just using this critique as an excuse to shit on The Eternals? ;)
      The Marvel Universe has many groups of heroes other than the Avengers. Sometimes a group just needs to be introduced all at once rather than having 10 different trilogies before finally teaming them up. lol

    • @flippy3930
      @flippy3930 2 роки тому +6

      @@marcw6875 That's an interesting thought actually. I'm not sure. I think the thing with Eternals was that it not only introduced 10 new, extremely powerful heroes, but it also introduced Celestials, a huge game changer for the MCU, which I don't think is possible to properly flesh out in one movie.
      Also, the X-men are a lot easier to do because the story they are in doesn't have to affect the entire universe. And there are a lot of X-men to work with, they don't have to introduce 10 all at once, which was my exact problem with Eternals.

    • @hajarbaghir9091
      @hajarbaghir9091 Рік тому +2

      I personally compare introductions in Eternals more to Guardians. Watching the first movie felt like a different universe to me as well but at the same time it was important to do it like group. And Thanos (main villain for 3 phases) was more in spectrum than other movies. Especially Gamora and Nebula being his daughters and Ronin working for him directly.
      We needed that Celestial explanation in long time. We only got bits and pieces in GOTG franchises and that's all. So I wouldn't be so judgy about something new and wait and see what they'll gonne do with them. We all know that Marvel always 10 steps ahead of us😊

    Just one minor correction, the Ten-Rings didn't use the pocket to get through the forest, they were waiting for the pathway to open which only happens once a year. The pocket is another way to get through the portal, but I guess is setup so people only from the other side will know how to navigate it. Also props to the Ten-Rings using taser weapons over more lethal ones when they came to attack.

I was a little iffy at first about how much of a cgi creature vs creature battle the third act was -- I was absolutely loving all their previous martial-arts based fight scenes -- but at the very least they made it really epic and the dragons did look dope. I love that the rings are so versatile and they showed like 6 different ways to use em during their fights, that's really cool.

    Okay little late, but I hope Seb still somehow sees this. The beacon on the rings is most likely to a Kang variant since we see these same rings in the quantum realm with Kang the Exiled. They surround the ship when it is taking off. Cool little detail because the inscriptions on both rings are the same.

    Here are some recommendations:
    Tony Leung is a Hong Kong legend, and this is his first Hollywood film. The man can do anything. You should check him out in the martial art Hero (2002) with Jet Li and Donnie Yen. The romantic drama by Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood For Love (2000), Infernal Affairs (2002), which inspired Martin Scorsese's remake called The Departed, and his gun-fu action Hard Boiled (1992) with Chow Yun-fat and directed by John Woo.
    Michelle Yeoh's classics include Crazy Rich Asians (2018), The Lady (2011), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Wing Chun (1994), Thai Chi Master (1993), Yes, Madam (1985).
    Yuen Wah, the old man, was in Kung Fu Hustle (2004) [a movie poster of it was in Shang-chi's bedroom], which paid tribute to both Hollywood films and old school martial arts films. Wah has been in countless movies and televisions, starting with Fist of Fury (a.k.a. The Chinese Connection 1972) starring Bruce Lee.
    The bus fight with the jacket copied Jackie Chan, and any of Chan's work is a must-watch.

    I got obsessed with Hong Kong martial arts movies as a teenager and there is so much of that style and feel in this. Which I love it because it feels so different to the other MCU films yet it still manages to feel like one

    I'm not one hundred percent sure about this, but I believe the beacon the rings are sending out might be an indicator that the next movie with have something to do with Fin Fang Foom. He's an evil space dragon who is connected to the rings in the comics.

    "Tony" Leung Chiu-wai is pretty much HK film and TV royalty, and it definitely shows here. And Michelle Yeoh is of course incomparable (although Maggie Cheung, Zhiyi Zhang, and Pei Pei Chang come close, but are not as well known outside Asia).
    One director/actor that would probably appeal to you is Stephen Chow and his martial art comedies. In particular I'd suggest Kung Fu Hustle. And *not* just because the protagonist gets to take his shirt off.
    But this sort of Asian cinema is definitely a deep rabbit hole to explore.

    You are the first reactor who wasn’t surprised Shang Chi followed through with his mission, and killed the guy who killed his mom. I realized he was lying when he said he didn’t follow through, when his dad stopped him from killing the man in the mask, because he definitely would have killed him. You also gave the exact same logic I did, about the way he was brought up, and everything he saw, from his mom getting beaten to death, to his dad killing the group responsible, asking him to help him fulfill the blood debt, training him from the age of 7, and telling him to kill the main person responsible for killing his mom, for his first assignment. Killing the person responsible for his life turning into hell, because you know that if mom was still alive, the rings would never have gone back on, and he wouldn’t have been forced to train as an assassin. So as far as 14 year old Shang Chi was concerned, that man took his life from him.
