SOOOO happy that you are back doing Simcity 4!!! It's so classic and everything looks exactly like in real world. I get inspired by your previous series and I can't wait to see what you gonna show us in this one!
The good old SimCity4 :) I actually prefer the grid and it's aesthetics. Not to mention the roads, you can plan every bit of roads to as much details as you want (with mods), and you actually have enough space for complex road systems.
What!! I never thought I would see this day come. I like your other series, can't wait until I can actually watch this video through. By the way, I just recently uploaded my own 200th SC4 video with essentially the same principals--focusing on realism, organic development, aesthetics in general over everything else, etc. It will be very interesting to see how your work measures up.
Oh nice! This zone is one I took a bit to recognize because of the minor changes you made, but I'm using it too! The designer did a great job with mostly flat land and nice hills/mountains. Ahaha great choice =P Thanks for these videos and so many amazing creative ideas.
For the future you should lower the music a tad more (just slightly really) but nevertheless it's amazing to see a new Simcity 4 series on youtube, the game deserves a lot of attention for the mods
The old SimCity 4, where you load maps from the internet and they get the normal sprite when you enter them! xD I think I'll enjoy this more than the futuristic design centric, I watched most of the episodes of season 1 though. Also, there are night mods available if you would like. :P Another thing, you should add parking lots to your town as well, those can be plopped if you have the mods for them, for example parking spots in between two lanes. :) And you were going to post links for the mods? I'm already drooling.
Still best city building and manger game of all time. Love cities skylines but it's not even close to the level of details and mechanics of this. I reached billions in regional population and had aesthetically linked cities and was so effin proud lol
YAHOO just found this, excellent! I am far too lazy to comment on every video of yours i have watched, I am sorry. Ty for your 'Design centric' videos I enjoy them across many games!! Hope to see more vids soon!
You should try to find a tunnel and slope mod. At least for the draggables. The ploppables I just end up flattening the land with roads. With the NAM puzzle pieces, if you go by one, use shift+tab to go back.
You need to place the bushes and trees on specific days for them to look properly. If it's a seasonal tree or bush place it on 9/1 that is when they change to the fall look.
I'm guessing for all these mods to work you need SimCity 4 Deluxe? I bought the regular version years ago and never realised the potential that mods had. Btw can't wait for more episodes!
Any chance we could see you try some natural growth patterns in some of your cities on this play through? I love watching how cities can organically grow in sim 4
Very excited for this! Do you get problems with the game crashing when transit enabled pieces/lots are hovered over by other pieces/lots? I'd hate for you to lose a tonne of stuff to a game crash. Good luck with the series, can't wait!
Hi Strictoaster I like your designs. Very happy to see this series. I have exhausted the ideas while designing San Francisco map. So hope to find some really cool ideas as always. :) Can you share the list of mods u have used for this video. One more thing, according to my experience the difficulty level does not matter.
There is a mod that allows the debug cheats to be accessed... I think its on simtropolis. Plus one of the cheats lets you put in how much money you want to habe!
Are you gonna use mods and buildings form simotropolis? Sim City 4 is a way better looking city bulidng game than new Sim City. It's more realistic. We can make a downtown ,centre, and not have a 1000skyscrapers at small city tile like in new Sim City.
He should've grabbed SPAM Agricultural Mod Trains not so good with that and it's companion mods your really rural even down to the roads putting a train will destroy esthetics. Subway better just add PEG Subway Station that would look better
Stric I know this is gonna be a great series but for the future can u do lets design prison architect?! That would be absolutely awesome! Looking forward to it!
I absolutely LOVE your series! It has gotten me back into playing SC4. One question: how did you get the annoying tooltips to disappear? (Like when you have a tool selected, the bubble covers it up!) I can't seem to find something online that does this.
Is it a mod that you are using to level the terrain with the monorail tracks or is it just something that the game does itself? If it is a mod can you please link me to it as I've been struggling to find it. Thanks Great video by the way
i'm watching in 720p, for some reason i get a bit of motion blur while in 1080p (motion blur i think it is). you know, on the tree leaves, they get blurry if he moves the camera around
Unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of Cities XL. That doesn't mean I won't do videos on it, but it probably won't be a long lasting series if that happens.
I'm just got this game, and your game looks awesome. I was wondering if you could tell me what are the "essential" mods you use and where can I get them, I allready have NAM, but what are the other mods you use that change the look so much from "vanilla"?
Hi Stricto! I know some time has passed, but I was curious about the mods you're using in this series. I'd like to try them out on my game! Hope someone can still answer me ahahah!
Hey Strict, just watched the video. It's great to see you already working on some real detailing with puzzle pieces and MMPs. Nice and curvy road networks too. Since you asked for plugins suggestions, I've got a few. I made a list on Reddit recently of basic plugins to install to give your game a "makeover" at least for residential and commercial zones, if you install them it will heavily cut down on the Maxis feel of your growable lots in favor of some top quality American-themed custom content. There are also a handful of purely cosmetic mods, basic stuff that I consider essential enough that I wouldn't play the game without them. Find the list here: www.reddit.com/r/simcity4/comments/295cxt/addons_you_cant_live_without/ciiwv3f?context=3 Just be sure to grab the dependencies along the way if you do download things out of it. As far as modding the look of your terrain and trees, I highly recommend choosing a recent mod for each. HD terrain and tree mods are one area where there's been a lot of qualitative progress in the last few years. For terrain mods, the preeminent three are Gobias' Sudden Valley and Berner Oberland mods and Lowkee's Appalachian Terrain mod. Modern terrain mods affect everything about your terrain and eliminate the need for a rock mod, beach mod, DJEM, etc. For tree controllers, the preeminent recent ones are the Arden tree controllers by vortext and Blunder's Cascadia tree controller, which I use myself with the Sudden Valley terrain mod. Going for older mods in these areas gives you access to more varied choices but usually means giving up some texture quality and diversity in your flora set. Also, it's a lot easier to get smooth slopes if you use a fully functional slope mod that adds variable slope for different networks as opposed to the (quite long in the tooth) monorail slope mod. Personally I suggest Ennedi's slope mod on the medium setting. Even though it's only "medium", the slope restrictions for the heavy rail network are strict enough that you can use it to smooth out just about anything in the same way that you use the monorail slope mod in this video. I hope you find this comment useful! I'm sure if you practice that you'll remaster all of the menus, tab rings and other quirky stuff about this game in no time. Also, it goes a lot quicker if you use the hotkeys!
+Pablo Rocha Hey dude, it's been a long time since you're written this, so you've probably found out, but you don't need a mod. If you just want to plant trees, after you establish your city, just hold Ctrl, Alt and Shift, and click on God Mode. It will give you all of the commands you've had previously. You can terraform, plant trees, etc, all free of charge. :)
Just found this channel. Awesome. Loved the region so much I had to try it. One question though. How do I change the god awful color to the more pleasing color. You mentioned something about pre-rendering. Not familiar with this. Looking forward to the whole series. Thanks
You should dual-boot and have Windows just for situations like that. You can also try to use Wine (Basicly a Windows virtual machine for Unix systems).
NAM developer here. The NAM returned to the Mac earlier this week, with the Version 32.1 release, which includes an installer for the first time, and fixes a number of the issues that affected the NAM on post-Rosetta versions of OS X (Lion/10.7 and above). It's up at ModDB, SC4 Devotion, and Simtropolis.
I downloaded a mod where when you bring up the cheat box you can type in "moolah (any amount of money, even 9999999999999)" and you get that amount of money. I forgot what it's called though. ?_?
OGM You can get it on Steam for $10. This is what a curator wrote: "Still the best city builder out there. Warning: a bit buggy on newer machines. Mod community is amazing and it's dirt cheap."
One thing Simcity 4 badly BADLY needs a mod for, is instead of the scrolling, a window would open up where it would shows all the different parts. scrolling a list of say 100+ items thats so annoying

Check out mendelsofts channel. He does what you are with more skill. You'll get lots of ideas. On the topic of mods I have over 2000 SC mods. I have the sort of train station you're looking for. A 4 tile long single platform. Don't remember what it was called and can't look right now. If you need a mid for anything I'll probably have something for it. I'll let you know. :)

hell yeah, same here
@Adrian Penza I've seen your comment before on another channel. This is getting suspicious my friend
Omg! I’m so glad I found this series. I miss playing SC4! Such a classic.
This is like the fourth time I've watched this episode, I plan on finally finishing the series this time as I myself get back into SC4
Hahaha good luck!
@@strictoaster you wouldnt happen to still have your mood just would you
@@STEVOBRADING he still has the entire mod list up on his old website!
this game will never die out
Love this! I demand 24 one hour episodes a day.

I said in earlier comments, but I really like your videos man. Great source of inspiration.
Strictoaster you still can buy it in stores, but its a rare chance now days.
Hey Strictoaster, glad to see the decision! I was very surprised to see it was 4. Cool!
Yay! I love SC4! I hope this goes for many seasons! Likes all around! Exclamation point!
Love your stuff. Keyboard shortcuts will make your life easier!

This is oldskool!! Nice to see!! Realy love SC4!!
2021 and soo much amazing stuff you can do with this game
Simcity 3000 music? Brilliant!
excited for this new series!
For the future you should lower the music a tad more (just slightly really) but nevertheless it's amazing to see a new Simcity 4 series on youtube, the game deserves a lot of attention for the mods
Just found this - really cool man! Will catch up on all the videos and have a marathon :D
They should have dirt roads for farms, that would definitely look awesome! Nice channel, I like it.
Ooh, SC4. Retro but unique. I'm in.
Yey for the Sim City 3000 soundtrack
Neil P. Harris can't drink Heinekin! Cool Vid Series!

how do u rotate the rails before puttinf it on the land?? what key do u press?
Hi, what do you have some additional expansion packs installed? You have options and items that I don't have in my base SimCity 4 game.
he installed mods, you can find his mod list on his website.
I absolutely LOVE your series! It has gotten me back into playing SC4.
One question: how did you get the annoying tooltips to disappear? (Like when you have a tool selected, the bubble covers it up!) I can't seem to find something online that does this.
Stupid question, but I have an old PC with SC 4 installed with Windows XP. Am I out of luck as far as mods go or are there mods for XP?
You really don't need to cheat for money in this game. It's easy enough to get in the profit zone.
Ypu deserve many more subs..

How do you make the tiles like that and just the size of the region
Hi Stricto! I know some time has passed, but I was curious about the mods you're using in this series. I'd like to try them out on my game! Hope someone can still answer me ahahah!
ready to watch all 6 :)

I forgot how in-depth you can get with detail in this game using mods. Is there still an active modding community for SC4?
Very active!
Zachary Hopkins Incredibly active!
Immensely active! XD
Zachary Hopkins Strictoaster I've spent hours browsing the STEX today, I've forgotten most of the mods I used to use though :(

I used to play sim city 4 on my 2010 gateway pc with windows7 and it crashed all the time on it
I feel like someone is going to kill me for asking this, but has he posted a mod list anywhere? Please don't stab me in the eyes.
+4J25 Don't answer that, I watched episode 12. :P
+weng galaura thanks man
Where can one download these mods?
Just found this channel. Awesome. Loved the region so much I had to try it. One question though. How do I change the god awful color to the more pleasing color. You mentioned something about pre-rendering. Not familiar with this. Looking forward to the whole series. Thanks
I believe he means by "pre-rendering" to load the city once and the grass will turn the correct color and look like the other ones.
I wish I could have NAM working for me. I am on a Mac. I already had enough torture from the Steam Summer Sale!

TarkusSC4 Many thousands of thanks to youI am so happy. How can I show my appreciation. There is too much.
I downloaded a mod where when you bring up the cheat box you can type in "moolah (any amount of money, even 9999999999999)" and you get that amount of money. I forgot what it's called though. ?_?
It's called SimCity 4 Extra Cheats Plugin.
I'm unable to sign into sim tropolis it will not let me. The feature is not working.
can u link your mods?
Does the game works on Windows 7 32 bit?
OGM You can get it on Steam for $10. This is what a curator wrote: "Still the best city builder out there. Warning: a bit buggy on newer machines. Mod community is amazing and it's dirt cheap."
How do you add mods?
My mans accent is a mix of a average American and a little European

Hi
Check out mendelsofts channel. He does what you are with more skill. You'll get lots of ideas.
On the topic of mods I have over 2000 SC mods. I have the sort of train station you're looking for. A 4 tile long single platform. Don't remember what it was called and can't look right now. If you need a mid for anything I'll probably have something for it. I'll let you know. :)
Yes, Mendelsoft for the more rural stuff and HalJackey for the sprawling modern cities and amazingly done highway interchanges
dimitriid
I think Mandelsoft the better highway interchanges too, his stuff is all oriented toward realism with full size acceleration lanes and to-scale roadside furniture. And his cities are bigger since they span multiple tiles. Don't sell the guy short, he's one of the masters. Haljackey was definitely better at actually making and putting out videos in large numbers though, and at the whole commentary aspect.
Of course I don't and I do like his interchanges and realism, I just mean that Haljackey has a different style like ultra modern almost futuristic.
I love MandelSoft's videos. Unfortunately he doesn't upload/stream on a set schedule so I end up missing his videos/live streams most of the time.
dimitriid I watched all *****'s "Building a City From Scratch" episodes. I learned a lot from it.
