Thank you for taking the time to review this, Ben. I enjoy unknown multi-tools too. Sure, I like watching reviews of the big ones, Leatherman, Gerber, Victorinox, but most people who review those, stay away from the cheaper ones. If a reviewer, with experience in a relevant field, real life usage, critical thinking and an objective take does not review these cheap, unknown ones, who will? Also, many people who watch reviews of multi-tools own multi-tools, mainly the common ones, a Wave here, a Rebar there, a Gerber, perhaps even a Ganzo or Roxon. I have a Wave, a Rebar, a Ganzo, but I do not have the CAT one. I do not know anything about it. What does it have on it? What's the quality like? Is it total garbage or a decent inexpensive option? I may not buy one necessarily, but it is a different design than the ones I own, so I am very interested to see it reviewed by someone who knows what he is talking about. So, thanks for giving some attention to the lesser known tools. I appreciate it.
It's really kinda sad you can't get a quality electrician/wire stripper based multi tool. I didn't discover the ES4 until a few months ago after they were discontinued (and the prices had ballooned to at least $40 used on ebay) but I've still picked up a few and carry one every way. It can be a bit awkward at times due to its size but it's far handier than keeping my kleins with me at work. If LM (or any reputable company) released a full sized tool with either a set of strippers or even a set of crimpers (I can strip easily enough with them most of the time) I'd be ecstatic
That sheath I would give three days until that belt loop broke. Im also quite surprised that the amazon listing has it at 5 stars. This if im not mistaking is also sold under a bunch of different companies, not just CAT. I wouldn't spend more than 8 dollars on it. Great video as well.
All I want is for Leatherman to make a full sized tool with a wire stripping head. The E4 and ES4 are nice, but a larger, Wave sized tool would’ve been super neato. Seems every full sized multitool I’ve seen with wire strippers is just not good in some way.
I hear ya. I always thought if they made a Wave with a really good wire stripper that it would sell well. Maybe change the tools around to be more advantageous to electricians. Like a jab saw for drywall instead of a wood saw, longer screwdrivers, things like that.
@@txtoolcrib That would definitely make for a great tool! Also, just got my first Swisstool a few days ago. The one with the one-handed blades. If it had a bit system, I’d be pretty tempted to replace one of my Leathermans with it. The Universal tool adapter does work, but it’s something extra to carry.
@@txtoolcrib I’m fairly certain I ordered the last Stainless one. Contemplating a BO one, too, but idk. Have you checked out the black G10 Charge, yet?
See, I can strip any size wire really well with any multitool. The problem is that rarely do multitools have a crimper. If leatherman made a tool like the Surge but it had a better connector crimper that was integrated into the pliers like the MUT is, that would be awesome. So just a bit longer pliers should be able to acomplish this.
i agree, it's strange that such a major company would besmirched their own name. however, i have the CAT sub-$10 mini / micro multi tool, and i EDC that thing everyday because it has a button (no velcro on the sheath!) and it's so small it doesn't weigh down my belt and doesn't jab me. i don't need it for any hard use, but for the occasional wire cutting, screwdriver, and emergency repair with the pliers, it hasn't failed me yet.
One for my weird, cheap ass multutool collection. JCB does the same in the UK, their branded tools from who knows where are really hit and miss. I do have a decent demolition chisel knife from them though.
I’ve actually used quite a few JCB products on the job. They’re really not that bad. They make that little farm loader, it is a baby extended reach forklift that includes a bucket attachment. They work pretty well. Here in the states Ahern rentals is going with Xtreme. They have one extended reach forklift that is a 20,000 lb machine. That thing is like a mini crane. Well, it’s actually not really mini. That thing is a monster forklift.
@@txtoolcrib I've not used any of JCB's vehicles myself so I can't speak to their quality (if I can't lift it with my hands I don't use it). 30+ years ago their back hoes, etc., were near universal, so much so that JCB is still slang for any of that kind of plant.
Definitely not a fan of these gimiky kind of multi tools. Seems to be of poor quality and just isn't worth it to me personally. I have the Leatherman squirt es which is an electrical themed tool with a striper plier which works well. It's small but very effective. Great video 👍
Even their extended reach forklifts are some of the best. I wish companies like CAT and John Deere wouldn’t throw their brand name around so much. Still, I don’t think products like these dilute from the brand name because people in the know are well aware of the quality of their products.
I agree with what your saying 100% i mean even snap on at least went with gerber. I dont see why LM wouldn’t team up with these guys and brand a wave. I imagine that these are just freebies they give their customers for purchasing equipment, that they also sell, so people dont expect much out of them
If you hate this you'll definitely hate the Dewalt multitool too. Beyond the lack of quality, it's just a fat chunky thing that's way bulkier than a multitool of it's size should be.
I think my Leatherman Radio Shack Micra is a better electrician's tool than that. It strips everything the Cat does except the 10 gauge and does it better. The screwdriver tip of the file on the Micra is cleanly squared off and the whole thing probably weighs less than the 'head' of the Cat and rests unobtrusively in my pocket.
If only they made it the same quality as the blackfire multitool for around ~$40-$45; it would work with a screwdriver, wood awl, file, saw and sailors awl (rope is used a bit in landscapeing etc.).

Love the Lone Star cutting mat!!
Thank you very much.
Greetings from the UK, loving these reviews, keep it up!
Thank you very much.
Will it at least hold a blueprint down?
Yeah I think it can handle that task. Lol

You and me both. There is such a need for one good quality electrician-based multi tool. Maybe someday.

I don’t know who in their right mind would give this thing five stars. Yeah, that belt loop probably wouldn’t make it past the first week.
@@txtoolcrib Maybe someone who has never held a leatherman? Someone who doesn't know quality if they were hit in the face with it? I don't know.
Been looking for this so thank you for the review, I showed off there fixed blade but have yet to test it.

I got one on the way as well, I had to get mine in BO because the stainless versions were gone already.

Thanks for the review, good to know. Can you please give some other multitools that are good quality and have wire strippers?
I’m always looking for this type. When I run across some more, I will put them up.
@@txtoolcrib Thanks! I work with cables a lot, so something to replace my bulky cable stripper would be cool

Some of the SOG models are pretty good at wire crimping. I know what you have in mind. That would actually make a pretty good tool concept.
The surge atchualy does have a crimper function that works great
That sheath is the same one from the Bluepoint Multi-tool... and yes, the belt loop failed on me. It was a "decent enough" tool. Kinda like this CAT.

Any brand of CAT are bad quality, glad you showed us this multitool

Shame CAT does that, i agree with you. I have CAT backhoes best machines on the planet. But their multitool knife marketing products are no good

I would agree. The CAT model really doesn’t do anything well aside from cutting wire.
11.5 ounces is 326 grams not 32. A good deep sea fishing weight.
Yeah, it happens.
I wouldn't want one even if they gave them away for free
Makes a good paperweight.
I agree totally us 🇺🇸 companies need to make American products

Hello again.

Thanks for sharing the super lack of quality.

It sure isn’t Leatherman is it?
