what's funny is that we're actually getting close to a normal unemployment rate now
Egypt be like "I wish, habibi"
Considering the town has a school, while other nearby towns do not, I think it was an error to count the children an part of the town's population. At least some of them would have just traveled there for school, this is evident by the overly large percentage of children.
considering how small the region is that also makes sense. it wouldn't take long for a kid from a nearby town to walk there.
We have to take to the consideration that children are not employable, thus making your point irrelevant
Maybe all the families move to Viridian City for the good schools... by which I mean good school... by which I mean only school in the entire region
@@szymps ok but its something to mention, it does account for the abnormally high population of children
@@shaobues Would still have to get through Viridian Forest iirc but only if they’re from Pewter Town. I don’t think a kid from Cerulean would just go through Mt. Moon for class but Pokemon kids are built different
“Sorry I think you meant the kid from the bureau of labor statistics” I thought you didn’t believe in child labor
He's doing an apprenticeship.
Only if they lie on their application, which he did
"Kid" like the way a 50 year old branch manager talks to his 30 year old employees. I'm sure.
I like how you called Nursejoy's Chansey a Chansey at first, then a Clefairy, then a Chansey again, I guess this is why you ended up in the Bureau of Labour Statistics & not a Pokemon trainer
I love all the ways the ✅EMPLOYED and ❌UNEMPLOYED signs come up next to people
Something worth considering for future unemployment surveys in Kanto.
Kids can become Pokemon trainers once they turn 10 years old.
You consider Pokemon trainers to be employed.
By this logic, although it is unusual in other areas, children in Kanto may need to be considered as employable.
I think employment should only count if the kids aren't dependents. Children implied to be in the care of a parent shouldn't count, but being a Pokémon trainer is very, VERY lucrative for a job a child can do.
Actually, the 10 years old rule is from the anime. There’s not an age limit in the games. In Black and White, you can fight preschoolers at one point.
Perhaps the bureau is discovering a concerning nationwide trend of child labor
Make sense. It just because its illegal in our universe doesn't its illegal in another
I mean this is a world where you get your pokemon license at 10 and don't have to go to school, I think kids can absolutely be employed. the confusing part is that you find lots of kids conspicuously younger than you who are pokemon trainers or even masters.
It's possible that a significant number of adults in Viridian city actually commute to work at the nearby Pokemon League, not as elite four members but working jobs like gate keeper, pokemon center nurse, or pokemart employee. If true, that would explain the strangely high proportion of children and elderly people within the city compared to working adults.
Correction: Kanto is not a continent, it is a region. The full size of the landmass is unknown but it is directly connected to Johto, on the same landmass, and there is good reason to believe Sinnoh is connected on the same landmass as well.
To be fair, Pokémon battling is enjoyed continent-wide still ;)
i still believe kanto, johto, hoenn, and sinnoh are all connected as the route numbers seem to build off of the last regions, with hoenn starting at 101, 102, 103... and sinnoh starting at 201, 202, 203 etc..
unova was the first region to start back from route 1, and I think is also disconnected from the rest of the pokemon regions
Its all an archipelago meant to mirror real world regions in japan.
@@BaneRain your mom is an archipelago
Pokemon regions are more like states
A historical survey showing trends over the past 25+ years in the Kanto region would be fascinating.
Especially since nobody moves, ages, gets a new job, or does anything else.
@Hyun-Shik I didn't see Giovanni here in the gym so some stuff certainly changed
If master trainers aren't considered residing in specifically the city they're standing in, or close by, shouldn't they still count to Kanto as a whole in the end regardless? So for all people you can't determine where they reside, they should just count to "unknown, Kanto" and still count to the whole percentage at the end regardless.
Or even attributing them to the same location that the elite 4 is based. As that appears to be the house of the Pokemon Association. With the master trainers all being connected or employed by that group.
I think that it's reasonable to assume that a master trainer be assigned to an area, that they would relocate for their job.
@@dannypestolesi712 good point! There has to be some authority over the master trainers so it probably is the Ingigo Plateau!
They're all employed by an LLC based out of Delaware. Since Delaware isn't in Kanto, they don't count.
@@BokBarber I too work in Delaware. I will start deciding who around me looks unemployed.
I adore this series, I’d love to see you do one of the botw villages (especially rito or goron village would be fun)
Hateno or Gerudo town would be the most entertaining. Lots of people, lots of businesses. Although Goron area does have the mines where some people work so he could do some traveling around to find them all. BotW in general would be awesome for this series.
totally agree! This would be awesome!
This series has inspired me to make sure all of my NPCs of appropriate age and fitness are, in fact, employed.
It took me this many videos to realize the podium isn't real 👁👄👁
holy shit
.... no. No that can't be.
I like these and would like to see the series continue.
Side note: Kanto is not a continent, nor is it even a country. It is comparable to a japanese prefecture, namely, the Kanto prefecture. Yes, they just used the real life name. You may want to use this information in future report summaries.
Kanto in real life isn't even a Prefecture but a region. Kanto is actually made up of several Prefectures, specifically Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo and Kanagawa.
Kanto in Pokémon however could essentially be considered a Prefecture to a greater nation, even if the official term for these Subdivisions is "Region". It even seems to be subdivided into Municipalities just like a Prefecture would be.
@Sonic and Red Yeahh i forgot about regions. I looked up the prefectures for the comment and it gave me a region map ig. Was hoping he'd do his own research on it anyway tho
@@waitwhat9939 @Wait What That's understandable, unless it's the US or Canada you don't really think about Subdivisions that much unless you come from that country (and there's quite a few Japanese videos about their Prefectures). But yes, trying to treat Pokémon's Kanto as a continent when there's quite literally another region right next to it is pretty jarring. Forgive me if this isn't a good example, but it's like saying that Texas is a different continent to Florida while ignoring the fact they share the nation and landmass, much like Kanto and Johto would be.
@@Hijiri_MIRACHION To be fair, though, Kanto and Johto are only connected via a passable route at a single point, and it's a pretty difficult path to travel, so it's not that unlike the division between other connected continents, a la Europe and Asia or North and South America.
The bigger question is what you consider the ruling body in the Pokemon world. Does the Elite Four hold political power over the region? Would that make challenging them and becoming the new champion equivalent to performing a form of coup? On the other hand, that would make the Gyms the more local-level political leaders, but that seems to pretty clearly not be the case.
@@-tera-3345 If we're going by paths that are difficult to traverse, surely the connection between Asia and Africa would fit more alongside the Tohjo Falls and the Panana Canal, what with the Suez Canal being there? The main problem with the Europe/Asia border is moreso political rather than geographical.
Then again, the existence of the SS Aqua going between both regions shows that the people of Kanto and Johto clearly thought about the difficulty of getting through the Tohjo Falls.
As for the political state of the Pokémon World, I always did think that Gym Leaders were Municipal Leaders and that the Pokémon League sort of functioned as a regional administration. However, later generations (mostly Generations 8 and especially 9) really throw a wrench into that idea. There's also the problem of who would lead the towns that don't have a Gym Leader.
The Pokémon League probably isn't necessarily a form of government either, since that would mean that Alola was basically in anarchy before they started a Pokémon League (which was very recently), and the player came along to become their champion. However, since the Champions of each game seem to remain in their position no matter how many people try to defeat them unless the plot demands it (see Hoenn or Unova), it's very possible that there is some distinction between their Champion roles and the players (this is the case in Paldea, at least), and that the Champions do act as some kind of political figure. As for the people who challenge them, I'd think of it as some state-run test of your skills as a Trainer, with the Hall of Fame being the equivalent of a Regional Honor Roll.
So, to sum up my opinion, Elite 4 Members and Champions are probably Politicians, but the Gym Leaders mostly aren't (with the sole exception of Drayden, who is literally confirmed to be Opelucid City's mayor).
I love how this video got progressively more unhinged as time went by. It went from a normal survey to questioning which type and level a hypothetical grandma would be if she was stuck in a pokeball, and if Chancey would be wacked with a stick if he dropped said pokeball.
On another note I would love to see you make one of these videos with Breath of the Wild.
Yeah, would love to see a BoTW video! Maybe Hateno Village, since it is one of the most populated towns? Or Gerudo Town.
"What level is grandma? What type is she?"
Brings new meaning to "what's your type?"
Knowing the enumerator is somewhere out there surveying the public on their relationship with employment brings me a sense of order in an increasingly chaotic world. Thank you for your service.
This is a goldmine of a series! :] Really hope you do Pyrite Town from Colosseum where EVERYONE is just standing around being shady. Also, maybe Chansey wants you to believe she doesn’t count. After all, if she’s just counted as a service animal then she doesn’t have to pay taxes *laughs evilly*. How do you think she affords that Mansion on the Orange Islands huh?
Pyrite Town would be an interesting one for sure.
@@AklyonX I enjoy that it's named after fools gold
I dunno if you've considered this, but I think it would add a little bit more satisfaction watching if you added a visual/audio cue for Ineligible Person, similar to the ones you currently have for Employed Person and Unemployed Person.
I was thinking about this yea. I’ll have to make one.
@@any_austin it should be like a "stick your tongue out to make a fart noise" kinda noise, or a subtle "womp"
@@any_austin you should use the PAL Dreamcast logo for some reason
This is the quality content that got you to 100k, congratulations!
I would love to see you do one of Disco Elysium. You can actually tell if most people are employed in that game
Shout-out to the intercom bit... humorous, and something I wouldn't likely notice on my own, let alone realize it's pointless in a single room building
The ghost type joke had me... dead
I feel like while excluded from the city counts, it would be impossible to exclude all 153 ish Pokemon specific masters from the overall region’s count, as traveling or not, if they are an employed entity it would be hard to say they weren’t members of Kanto in some specific state.
Also I look forward to revisiting the Chansey question when we get to Vermillion’s construction crew.
For Chansey I would like to think about performance and animal actors. While they themselves cannot take payment, they still get paid and can be considered employees (the payment is just directed to there trainers) Buddy, the dog from Air bud made roughly 1k-2k per week when starting out as an animal actor. Also we have to think about the origins of Pokémon that was told to us in Black and White and how Pokémon and humans are basically one in the same (and how humans marrying Pokémon is considered normal but that's another story.....) So it is very possible to count Pokémon that have jobs as employed while simultaneously not counting the ones in the wild. It is not mandatory for them to work, similar to a child, but if they do have jobs they can be accounted for.
Since you are considering the entire region, shouldn't the master trainers count, just not as a part of the individual cities?
I love to imagine Austin telling all these pokemon jokes about his dying grandmother to his face, whilst the child cries uncontrollably
I agree with the call on the master trainers. They don't even exist until after you beat the Elite Four, so it doesn't seem likely that they are residents of the towns they're in.
Showed this series to a friend and we enjoy your delivery!
A related idea if you're ever interested might be going to RPG towns to figure out the homeless rate. Seems like a lot of RPGs have more characters than homes.
I like the pen clicking. Really sells the vibe of a records guy from the bureau just taking inventory.
The payoff on the grandma in a pokéball bit caught me off guard lmao
Never thought I’d be so invested in a series like this but here I am. Great video haha looking forward to the next one!
The concept of the BLS tracking employment data for Pokémon, implying that humans would need to compete with animals for work on the job market, feels both surreal and also like an insight into the local economy
this is my favourite currently active series on youtube it's amazing make more please
yes pls keep making more of these i love them! this series is so fun and relaxing
ok, woah. This is my first time seeing this series in my subscription box and it made me realise how much I already look forward to each of these videos. Hahaha.
1:17 this episode is brought to you by Keeps!
ETA: This is my first time viewing this series, and since you asked at the end I thought I'd let you know that as a new viewer this was a great video and I will be watching the rest of the series.
Pokemon content seems to have gotten stale of late, and as an adult who still plays this is the sort of series that is not only fresh, but more in line with an adult audience without alienating younger viewers.
i really like ur voice n cadence n melody, it doesn't feel like im watching a carefully prepared video ever it's like im on a discord call with my bestie who has a major in philosophy that they'll never use for a job. good stuff
I love these, hearing government-eske presentations about video game towns make my day :)
The summary at the end was so good! The student to semi-bloodsport pipeline comment got me good
He swapped between "Chancy" and "Clefairy" twice
This is my favourite UA-cam series! I get so excited when I see it popping into my feed with a new episode. Keep up the good work Austin!
love this video, keep em coming! i really do enjoy the other stuff you do, too, like the $2 games and the snow video
Nice to see another of these! Thanks for uploading! Might comment more later!
Your music and videos are great as always, can't wait to see and hear more!
Just found your channel today and can't get enough of these videos. Looking forward to the rest of the surveys from the Kanto region.
continue to make this type of content
I look forward to these videos, they're goofy, but a lot of fun. Love your content, keep up the good work!
These videos are awesome! It's like a world tour, but way better because it focuses on a new question that other tours don't ask!
Really glad UA-cam served this up to me. Loving this series and looking forward to more.
These videos are always so fun. Thanks for doing them!
These videos are the primary reason I subscribed. Pls keep them coming :)
A friend forwarded me this video and I loved it! Excited to see more
100% want to see more. Love these series, and would love to see them completed in the current games as well as expanded to others. You make it, I'll watch it! 👍
For the master trainers, since they aren't counting toward the city we find them in, what is the bureau's plan to include them in the overall region metrics, if any? It seems 151 people, who we presume to be workers and not volunteers, vanishing from the count would skew the overall statistics and insights from the region (one way or the other).
I do agree with the decision to remove them from my the local count, given they seem to be part of a greater Kanto organization without an obvious local level gathering or organization site. For comparison's sake, I would say it is different from the more "franchise office" local employment for the "pokemart" and "pokecenter" brands which also extend through the region, but have clear need for local workers to staff on a more permanent basis.
hey austin, guy. congratulations on your channel doing well. your work is truly unique and the success is well-deserved. hope you're doing well old sport.
Love these videos! Just watched through all of them and am excited for more.
Idk why but you shaking the paper was absolutely killing me
I needed a high quality, entertaining video to watch! And look who provides... Great work, man. I keep looking forward to your videos!!
Love these enumeration videos! Keep them coming and I'll watch every one!
Hi baby! I'm so glad you're back with this series, I've already started crying
Thank you for the gift that is you continuing this series
I love your videos, the comedy is so dry it makes my skin crack in the winter.
Quality Content. I never thought I’d find Pokémon bureau of labor statistics so relaxing, but here I am
Love ya Austin! It's always a good day when I get to see a new unemployment video from you
Definitely love this series. Please keep it up! If you ever need economic advice/more jargon to put in your videos I'm sure myself and other nerdy economists would love to help you out
Congrats on 100k! Keep em coming!
I am really happy you are making more of these
as always, i liked this video. i also respect that the bureau doesn’t clickbait us and includes the percentage in the title
I absolutely love this content. Keep up the amazing work Austin!
These continue to be fantastic. And the enumerator's getting better! There's an unexpected character arc in the making!
This series is awesome. Please continue surveying digital cities and towns. Also, please continue producing great music.
I enjoyed this video as always. Viewing the worlds of video games from the perspective of how they function economically is interesting to me.
Dam Austin! Back at it again with the quality content!
this is my favorite content. thank you austin for your service.
I liked this video, keep making more! Thanks for your hard work surveying Kanto.
Keep up the amazing content man, especially looking forward to more odd and unremarkable places
I always love your unemployment videos, as well as your unremarkable places videos!
Another great one! Loved your notes in the report at the end because I've always thought that the economy and infrastructure in the Pokemon worlds was a little bit one-track, but thought I was the only one who was bothered by it 😂
Something about your videos puts me in a state of sleepiness even as I fully enjoy them, I've been playing the playlist of these to fall asleep for several days now 😂❤
Man, you were just absolutely savage with some of these.
That joke at 6:40 was a real dark type joke
Great as always Austin, keep 'em comin' and stuff
2:53 i love the mask and rotation you did here, you had no reason to do it and that's what i love about it the most
Really really enjoyed this video!I always love your unemployment videos!
8:05 i love how the irreverence of the BLS persona carried over into so many of the chapter titles in these videos lmaooo
this, the Bart College bit in that one skyrim video, love it
your voice is soothing and well spoken for these types of videos. I highly recommend that you continue, it's very cool to look at pokemon at a more "industrial" (is how i'm going to phrase it) angle, can't wait for the other regions after kanto.
Doing every city in Kanto is a fun idea. It'll be interesting to get to towns like Lavender Town with the Pokemon cemetary.
this is the type of content im looking for at 2 in the morning thank you
Something about the voiceover for this is so unique and charming.
There are a lot of children in Viridian City, so I predict it becoming a huge trade hub and tourist spot within 50 years time.
man it will be a treat to watch this series through when its completed
Congrats on 100k subs; its well deserved, keep up the hard work, brother.
The minor editing on this video is so good. Excellent job 👌
I liked it. Your videos are always fun to watch and informative.
Love these videos I would love to see every pokemon city done! super fun stuff
Big fan of this series. Big fan of all your series, but also a fan of this one. Had a good chuckle about the Chansey tangent.
This series is great, please keep doing these
I love your content, you deserve more than the 100k subs, massively underrated creator
Let’s go I’ve been waiting for the pokémon series to come back!!!
I genuinely love this amazing idea, and I'd love to see you do it with all the Pokemon regions!
