@@mandowarrior123 Yeah Ella Musk looks like a child but she may not be since she has a younger sister in Windrise that looks like an adult. That could be an error or maybe Ella Musk is just a short adult lol
Man, the fact that you take the time to motion track the "EMPLOYED" popups with the camera movement in the games, is completely unnecessary and I'm sure takes a lot of extra time - but boy does it show your dedication to making these videos fun and interesting to watch.
I haven't finished the video yet, but I would just like to say that the cut from "You can, but I might edit it out if it's boring." straight to "✓ Employed" was absolutely perfect.
2:16 Donna is actually an employee of Floral Whisper (Flora's shop). She tells you off if you touch the flowers, so her job is to keep an eye on the goods. You also missed Alfred, an old bard who shows up in the morning at the graveyard. Does the city bridge count? Lynn the Survival Expert of the Adventurer's Guild is just outside the city, near the bridge.
@applecake2209 They probably talked to Timaeus, but didn't show it in the video, I think they skipped Helen, the bard that sings from the balcony above the adventures guild. Shuyun and Margaret of the Cat's Tail Tavern. Literally every single playable character from Mondstadt. And there should be a large * since most of the KoF are on expedition
I'm surprised Mem didn't mention the Dawn Winery to the south of Mondstadt. There's so much alcohol in the city because they're a wine town. It's also possible the windmills are helping in the production of wine somehow.
In Mondstadt City there is an npc named Michelle with the title "windmill keeper" she explains that the windmills are used for drawing water. You find this out by talking to her, asking what shes doing, then asking her to tell you about the windmills.
Katheryne must be the MOST employed person in all of Teyvat haha. Never thought I'd see you do Genshin but this made my day. The funny thing about the overrepresentation of knights is that what we see in town is basically the reserve crew because a large chunk of their fighting forces are on some mysterious journey to another country. Truly the no.1 employer in Mondstadt.
@@iota-09 she in fact has neither of those. Nahida freely takes her over through the Akasha because she's a puppet with no free will or consciousness to override.
@@CircusFoxxo during "The Trail of the God of Wisdom" however you ge tto talk to katheryne while she is on break, in this instance, it is actually katheryne, although there are theories that during work mode she has no proper consciousness to speak off as using nahida reveals she has no thoughts, the fact she can take and enjoy -however rarely- a break is testament to the fact that she has free will.
I would say there are several playable characters who don't appear but who are residents of Mondstadt and are employed (Jean, Lisa, Diluc, ect), so they should have been counted
19:19 actually, you commented earlier in the video about the abundance of taverns, which ties directly to monstadt's most notable export, that being wine! monstadt is famous for its dandelion wine, and the dawn winery estate on the outskirts of monstadt is huge and employs a large amount of people, so much so that the head of it (diluc ragnvindr) is very influential in the city despite not belonging to the knights in any way
@@B_SkizzleThey do change NPC dialogues based on the impact the main quests have on the world. Certain NPCs had changed professions and moved to other places before.
Really great video, but I’m surprised at how many places were missed despite having someone who knows the game present, like Good Hunter and the Cat’s Tail. Would be super fun to see other Teyvat locations in the future.
So, about Vile, She's an informant in the sense that she gathers info about dealings and goings on in the underworld and relays that to the knights. There's a group of bandits called the Treasure Hoarders that operate throughout the whole continent and the knights are always trying to keep an eye on them. And on that note, Nimrod is also an informant. He works with the treasure hoarders near Mondstadt so he can then let the knights know what they're doing.
@@catto1003 It's from "Currents Deep Beneath the Lanterns" during the first lantern rite event, so unfortunately it's not something you can still access in game. Kaeya sends you to meet an informant towards the end of the quest and it turns out to be Nimrod.
@@marblemorphel oohh so he's actually helping the knights.. I misread ur original comment :' Too bad Genshin doesn't let newer players to play previous ones, thank u!
7:55 I'd have to disagree. A lot of these games have monsters and bandits that will attack people without hesitation so a heavy presence of guards would be necessary
@@MrWizardjr9Said dragon had been asleep for hundreds of years, is the only known example of his kind in the area, and had previously been recognized as a friend/ally of the city. As such, he cannot be looked at as being representative of the kind of threat the Knights would've been expected to handle.
Yeah i also get the vibe that during peace time they do this job and when the civil war eventually comes because of the high unemployment they will be cutting down all the drunks. With that high unemployment, its good idea to have a lot of security.
To be fair, Nimrod does have a job. He works as an informant, along with Vile, for Kaeya. Yhe difference is that he goes undercover as a treasure hoarder, then monitors and relays info of their movements to Kaeya, the chivalry captian of the Knights of Favonius. When things a taking a turn for the unusual or for the worse, he immediately informs Kaeya. His wife Eury probably doesn't know that he's a spy, thinking that her husband only ever drinks all-day.
@mar-nyan Holy heck, this was 1 year ago. Hahaha This is from the game. If I remember correctly, it was from an event quest. If you missed the event, you never would have known. The guy has been an undercover agent for a long time. He's an alcoholic but he mentioned that he would rather never drink a sip of alcohol if it means keeping Eury safe during the Stormterror crisis.
@@mar-nyanI believe it’s from the second Lantern Rite actually: You discover someone messing with the blackpowder in Liyue Harbor and go to ask Kaeya about a symbol. He arranges a meeting between you and his informant, who turns out to be Nimrod.
You know, I really like the implication that either 1) all of the places/games you've done surveys in exist in the same universe/world, or 2) the Bureau of Labor Statistics is some otherworldly bureaucratic entity with access to transdimensional travel, and is just really concerned with the state of the local economies.
You missed a lot of people. Most playable Mondstadt characters are employed (most of them belong to the knights), two additional nuns, the owner and the guy working at the front counter of Cat's Tail, a kid feeding pigeons on the bridge and Timaeus the alchemist next to the shop (and probably some more I'm not thinking about). In addition to those, 80% of the knights are currently on an expedition so I'm not sure if they count.
also the random people all through the region. i would count springvale as well. just make it the entire region since its hard to figure out from other npcs who's from springvale and who's not. also a walk away from the main city unlike other locations like watatsumi island, port ormos, ritou, qingce village, and aaru village/caravan ribat.
8:30 actually when anna wishes into the fountain during the day, anthony scrapes up the money at night. anna actually does eventually get better in the game and then becomes employed by the Adventurers Guild
Very good video but a couple of notes: 1) Many of the chivalry including Varka are out on an expedition (Idk if it counts but they are mondstat inhabitants) 2) You missed the inside of the cat tavern towards the entry 3) There are playable characters who are employed that you missed to count for, off the top of my head are Diona (A child tho) working as a barista, Jean the "Mayor", Lisa the librarian, Albedo is an alchemist, Barbara a priestess, Amber works with the guards, Sucrose another alchemist, Eula has some military rank, Mika a cartographer, Diluc and Kaeya also work but don't live in mondstat but just outside still in the region. 4) The sick girl can be cured and become an adventurer, also outside of the town there's ppl that live there but work outside
considering albedo lives on a neighboring mountain i also don't think he would count, this is a report for the intramuros city rather than the whole region
Five little errors I noticed since I'm absolutely obsessed with this game: Donna works at Flora's flower shop! You learn this during one of the quests during Mondstadt where you have to go buy from her Flora is actually canonically an adult, and her flower shop is a legit store. There just happen to be short adults in Genshin (I think we all *really* know why, considering 98% of them are women...) Anna *is* severely ill, like you said, but she's actually also canonically only a teenager! When you do her quests, she's referred to as a "child." (Edit: She also becomes an adventurer after you finish her quests and cure her illness, which is also in line with other canonically-older-teens like Fischl!) Sansa actually *is* employed as a bard. In Teyvat, anyone with that title is canonically employed Herman actually *is* retired. There's no minimum retirement age I also think you missed a few people/buildings (like Timaeus and Sara, and the people in the Cat's Tail), but you may have just cut them out. It also would have been cool to see you factor in the playable characters, or even characters in Mondstadt but outside of the city. I get how those could have taken way longer tho Anyway, great video! I'd love to see more!! :3 Edit: Either fellow Genshin fans are doing their usual “No she’s short so she must be a child!!!” like they love to do with Diona, Sayu, Nahida and Dori, or they’ve once again changed Mondstadt’s story, because when I played through it was explicitly stated that Flora is an adult. Who knows. This game is an absolute nightmare when it comes to getting a straight answer because of how much the English translation teams fucks everything up and how much fans love to deny canon ages, lol
I'm an RPG fan, one who has also taken notice of bland NPC's in the more retro games (something that I aim to fix in my own little indie, not a plug, hasn't been announced yet) Anyway enough of that. Genshin seems to do good at this aspect, yet just in this comment from a sane and chill fan, there's talk about a rather dubious aspect of Genshin. I don't know if I'd ever play it, especially with it's stigma.
My thoughts: 1. Should totally go check the other regions of Mondstadt. Winery, Dragonspine and villages 2. Also check the playable Mondstadt characters
Also number of employment varies between how much you did the commission that changes the npc behaviour, like some NPC became an adventurer eventually because you did their proper commissions
I do have to wonder how the playable characters factor into this. Unlike Pokémon, where the Gym Leaders hang around, in Genshin, you can only really talk to the playable characters during the main plot or seasonal events, so Mondstadt resident characters like Acting Grand Master Jean and the Librarian Lisa might need to be discussed separately.
Most playable characters are employed except for Itto and Venti who are able-bodied adults and unemployed. Razor does not have a formal job but he's also a teenager so he is not counted in the labor force.
@@thienphucn1 i think venti should technically be considered as employed, due to him being arguably considered the most famous bard in mondstadt. he also has access to money as he mentions in kaeya's hangout that he didn't bring enough money to buy a second drink. He also teaches poetry classes, and regularly performs at Cat's Tail despite being allergic to cats.
I think wine is the “unique export” of Mondstadt. Its wine is highly valued across the continent - there are at least 2 NPCs that tried to sell fake Mondstadt wine. Also, according to one text, the tax revenues generated by the Dawn Winery amounted to 11.4% of the annual expenditure of the nation.
Austin, this was the most entertaining one yet. Holy crap, I couldn't stop laughing. When you bring Mem along for these, I can't handle it. It's so good, I love her so much and she's the perfect matching energy to your monotone delivery. ♥♥♥♥♥
If you wanted to, you could use the Character Archive to track the playable characters' employment. Also, the Dawn Winery has a lot of employed people in it.
Came here to say that I bought Mario Sunshine and Majora’s Mask for my sister and me to play 100% because of your employment survey videos. You made me love Delfino Plaza and Clock Town before I ever played in them myself! Thanks for these videos and please use this comment as proof to Nintendo that you should get paid a portion of sales of all games you cover
This is awesome. I want to see more of these this is fascinating as someone who only got about this far in the game. I am actively playing Honkai Star Rail so I wanna see the employment of Belobog, especially since you can look at the two separate cities and see how much worse the “slums” lower city is. You can’t survey the Herta Space Station though cause canonically everyone there works, including the kids.
@@gaIIowsCaIibrator I think it would probably have pretty high unemployment, but like. Natasha works at the clinic so she has a job. There’s a working hotel. Maybe you could also count wildfire members as employed since they’re kinda like the police/public service folks down there.
Windmills such as these are almost certainly used seasonally for grain processing, potentially even barely. In Germanic medieval culture can also double as a keep for city watch (see Mule am wall)
Some corrections I'd like to point out regarding the statistical data collected in the video: -Mondstadt does have a unique and popular export industry of wine. -The employment rate of Mondstadt should be subject to change considering the playable characters like the members of knights the knights of favonious (eg: lisa, jean, albedo etc.), the dawn winery owner (diluc), more nuns (barbara, rosaria) etc. -The interior of "cat's tail" where several other npc's and diona (another child) needs to be considered in the data collection. Ps: Regardless of these details, it was an entertaining video to watch and a unique topic for a video. Especially considering the popularity of the game which would lead one to assume all the best video topics have already been covered by now. I usually skip through many videos but managed to watch this till the end without even having known this creator before or having any preference for their videos. It was fun.
this was a great video!! absolutely loved it, especially since it's about the game that ate up my life for two years. the mistakes are completely understandable since you're not toobfamiliar with it yet, but i hope you'll consider doing more! the game itself is very alive, so people move around a lot (like you saw with Six-Fingered José) so i feel you may have missed a few people aside from the ones I already saw mentioned by others. specifically, i'm thinking of the nun in white who is the wife and mother to the father and child inside the church and of the knight-in-training beside the knights of favonius headquarters. also i'd like to point out that Patton (man outside Angel's Share) is not technically employed. if you talk to him a little more, you'll find he's in more of an indentured servitude/forced labor situation under the playable character Diluc for accidentally breaking a vase.
I still have no idea how a video on figuring out unemployment rates in video games is so entertaining. You've taken something so boring and mundane in real life and made it interesting. Hats off to you sir!
I love when you and Mem collab, both of you make great stuff and together the vibe is amazing! Also "looking at sexy nuns is unemployed behavior" made me lose it lmfaooo
thank you this is one of my favorite videos on the internet now, ive been waiting years for you to talk about genshin. genshin also has a lot of unremarkable and odd places on the edges of the map, especially in mondstadt and liyue so id love to see more videos!
13:46 it’s actually really funny that you noticed how empty the city feels bc there’s an actual in-lore explanation for this: Varka, the grandmaster of the knights of favonius actually took a huge percentage of the knights out for an expedition before the events of the game take place so the population is a lot smaller than it normally is LMAO
I remembered that someone talked about windmills SOMEWHERE in Mondstadt, so I went back and sure enough there’s a lady named Michelle that appears during the day next to a windmill in the eastern part of the city. She is labeled as a Windmill Keeper and says her family has worked the windmills in Mondstadt for a while and that they draw water.
Memoria is like 5 subs away from 5k. Go sub: www.youtube.com/@MemoriaMatters edit-- two things 1) we always edit a lot out for entertainment purposes. all the places yall are saying we skipped we didn't skip. relax. 2) this is going to be my only genshin video.
Might I suggest the town of Inaba from Persona 4? Many times while solving a supernatural murder mystery I've thought to myself, "say, how many people in this town are employed?"
maybe they just cut it, but did Austin go into the Cat's Tail to count the bartender, also did he count Margaret? She wanders around the plaza but I don't remember them counting her..
Always fun to see Mem on the channel. This one was more fun than I thought it would be, lots of people to talk to and most of them seemed pretty obvious with only a few people that weren't very clear.
I haven't read in the comments the fact that during at least one Story quest, you journey deeper into the Cathedral - possibly Monstadt's largest employer where at least a dozen employed persons can be seen. Also, it wasn't shown on camera, but near the docks just inside the city walls are a few more employed people. It can also be assumed that some people are... you know - working? Hunting/gathering/transporting goods/housekeeping/etc in areas that are not obvious or accessible to players. Like you say, lots of buildings and chairs for 48 people.
Flora the flower shop owner was a grown up lady on Genshin's pre-released version. Before (on the official released version) (during earlier version of the game) there was an NPC outside Mondstadt that talks about his admiration for Flora. Then some players who noticed it are starting to call out the situation to Hoyoverse because Flora has a child body model. Then a video comparison for Genshin Impact's pre release (beta) vs released version came which shows Flora had a grown up body model before. Some players (who had access the pre-released version) commented about the lack of diversity for body model for NPCs, so Hoyo decided to change the body model of some existing NPCs (maybe they did it ramdomly bacause there is a scholar named Ella Musk who are studying Hilichurl's language that has a child body model also.) Now what I know the NPC's dialogue who talks about Flora was changed.
Been a fan of your vids and now you're playin my game! Welcome to Teyvat! The unemployment problem is something I've noticed in the game. The cities actually have it good. Go around the world (Liyue and later) and you'll see a disproportionate number of treasure hunters and bandits. Most of the residents of Teyvat turned to a life of crime to get by. It's pretty sad. We need more industry.
There are also a few more knights and other people around the region who probably love in the city. A researcher or two, some adventures, a merchant, and of course some more knights. Obviously the playable characters who live there and who are also employed should count.
While it seems you are focusing on the city itself, it is supported by a nearby village (largely hunting based), and a vineyard. (It’s implied there are other vineyards but only one is shown) wine and flowers are the major economy of Mondstadt. There is also an unreleased port town, which should be an economic hub for Mondstadt. Additionally a large portion of the knights and some clergy are on a long term expedition
A few notes from a Genshin addict: Albert the nun stalker is actually stalking a teenage girl nun, Barbara. The hot nun Mem was likely talking about is named Rosaria, and dresses like a hooker. lol There are playable characters that don’t show up on the overworld but definitely live in Mondstadt. Barbara, Rosaria, and a leaked character all work at the church, and the god/Archon of the nation would fall under your definition of unemployed as a drunk troublemaking bard. Amber, Kaeya, Lisa, Sucrose, Jean, Noelle, and Eula are all employed by the Knights of Favonius. There’s also a cartographer named Mika, but he and the large majority of the KoF are off on a long-term expedition, so they probably wouldn’t count for the survey as itinerant people. There’s a Chief Alchemist of the KoF named Albedo, but his status as a homonculus with an identical clone also running around the city leaves his un/employment eligibility unclear. In the same vein, Katheryne is a robot that also runs the Guild’s commission system in every other major city. The other tavern, the Cat’s Tail, isn’t accessible anymore, being overwritten by an interdimensional trading card clubhouse. Another playable character, Diona, works at this bar, but she probably lives in the neighboring town of Springvale with her father. Said clubhouse is the workplace of Saint, a non-talking cat, and Shuyun, his translator. Another playable character, Mona, is a broke astrologist, and works both as an astrologist for hire and as a columnist for a newspaper from another region. Bennett is an adventurer, but it’s unclear if he’s a kid doing it for fun or if he’s getting paid. The adventurers all co-parent him (co-babysit?). Another girl, Fischl, is a LARPing book series fangirl that I believe also works for the Guild, but again it’s unclear whether or not she actually gets paid. Boosting the population numbers, Klee is a child Knight of Favonius that gets babysat, so definitely not getting paid. So an additional 13 employed individuals and 17 total population, with the exclusion of Katheryne and the Albedo twins. Love your and Mem’s videos, and hope you analyze other cities in Genshin! The NPCs can be pretty silly, it’s fertile ground for this series in my opinion.
I doubt Albedo's homonculus status matters here. He's considered a citizen of Mondstadt as much as anyone else, so he should be counted as usual. Venti also probably *technically* counts as a citizen??? But is definitely NOT employed. He pretty intentionally tries to be the single most unemployed person there. It is canon that official members of the adventurer's guild do get monetary compensation for commissions they take, and both Fischl & Bennett seem to fairly exclusively do commissions for the guild. For Bennett it's probably close to the equivalent of growing up doing work for your family's company until you can legally get on the payroll. And since we know the lack of child labor laws in Mondstadt, I think it's safe to assume they'd both count as employed as much as any other adventurer. They also didn't even touch the remaining aristocracy, whose employment status seems to change every episode. The Lawrence and Gunnhildr clans are definitely still rich but it's unclear if they're actually making money off of anything or are invested in any businesses? I feel like if they're just sitting on old money it shouldn't count. (And we can't count *all* of their members obviously, but we do know a few names from both.) I don't think being sponsored by the Fatui via collusion really counts as employment either? I'd love to see them do more Genshin cities but they're also inevitably going to miss sooo much and the comments section is going to be filled with paragraphs of corrections like this. Good for the algorithm though I guess.
you should do 4-5 minecraft villages and average the employment rate of them just to see the employment rate of your average minecraft village. and for once you can 100% tell if they're employed!
Donna is working for Flora, the little girl who sells flowers. Anna becomes an adventurer in a daily quest so she does get a job later on in the story. Herman has the hunters uniform so he should be working as a hunter. Vile is working for whoever gives money, she was employed by Kaeya in his story quest. There are two other locations where people live in Mondstadt, the Hunter's village and the Winnery. There is also a point where Adventurers go near Dragonspine and some other people are just around the map doing their own things. The main city is far from being the only population of Mondstadt but still a very interesting video nonetheless !
I’m unemployed right now and living in my car. Honestly, it may be the happiest I’ve been in many years. I haven’t had nor have I needed a single dollar to my name in the past month and it feels just so incredible. @@JoacoG11 Sorry I took a month to get to your question, just now saw it. So, where I live they have a lot of resources for homeless people such as but not limited to public 24hr food pantries located at several churches across the city, dinners every night at Salvation Army, and many other places for breakfast and lunch. I personally try to avoid those places as scumbags and criminals have kind of overrun them but recently I was able to get EBT food stamps after months of being lied to by staff at The Human Services building. Wait until you get to the other cities with dozens more named and unnamed NPCs and some look like they have jobs but no one isn't really sure if they're on break or just loitering in the area
It might be intentional (and I assume homeboy doesn’t play the game, which is fair) but the Knights do have 9 additional employees as playable characters, who I presume must live in the city, plus 2 more at the church, 2 more from the Adventurer’s Guild, and an astrologer who is employed as an editor for a foreign newspaper And maybe Venti if being a god counts as employed
My headcannon is that the windmills provide such abundant passive automation that the cost of living in the city is extremely low. There might not even be enough jobs at the moment.
Mondstat has an export culture particularly around their high quality dandilion wine which is sold teyvat over, the windmills are presumably involved in the production of the wine.
I'd love to see you figure wealth disparity into this equation. 😊 As many these days are experiencing, being employed more often does not equate to prosperity.
That will totally be interesting. Lol. But it wouldn't work specifically in this video's game because of lack of actual data. Only the NPCs/non-NPCs who talk about money are the ones who's struggling deep. Lol. Either that or the lore suggest they're royalties to business moguls. Lol.
I love your videos so much. I should comment about it more often. you’ve arrived on an absolutely perfect bit to do and you’re executing it with perfect delivery
2:08 Aw man, I wanted to hear about the adventurers! 3:22 Professional gourmet isn't a job?! They can't be a food reviewer? 4:06 The flowers do seem varied, & if they've ran it for a significant amount of time, calling it a "lemonade stand" seems wrong; Lemonade stands are often very limited & temporary.
You actually missed two NPCs. There is a bard named Helen on a balcony near the entrance. And there is also a guy that lost his daughter and is seen in graveyard.
Might they be in a better place than it seems at first glance based on comparison to real world economies and employment rates? it is all those windmills that have my attention. Given the types labor needed in that kind of an economy, they are effectively running a highly automated yet pre-industrial society. As long as they have a means of keeping the seemingly unemployed provided for so that they can contribute to the economy as consumers, and that sure appears to be the case based on their appearance, then they are actually fine. They basically have a bunch of people who would be doing windmill labor instead just collecting whatever UBI they must have while the windmills do the labor.
6:00 one thing to note tho, Anna is employed now, she accept's commision at adventurers guild, she's an Adventurer also, inside cat's tail you can see many people employed and also rich folks who play cards all the time 7:42 Also Glory has a boyfriend who is employed as Knight of Favonius but he wasnt in town so you wont find him there.
1. another great vid lmao 2. i'm sure this has been suggested before, crash team racing (ps1) has some fantastic odd and unremarkable spots. such as the pier or the crashed ship shortcut in the very first track, loved chilling near the back as a kid despite literally no reason you would be or even see that spot just playing the game. OH i just remembered, a lot of those spots probably have boxes there during those specific challenges, but that doesn't make them any less interesting imo. also some of the battle arenas have weird vibes and spots. ctr ps1 ALSO has some neat old game skyboxes/backgrounds to appreciate. 3. the remake doesn't hit as hard in that odd places regard due to being a modern remake (but also has great skyboxes). and especially in some of the new stages, there's some neat details going on that... you would never see... just racing through them. 4. an odd and unremarkable yet lovely place in tears of the kingdom: shortly after entering the highland stable well, there is a small ledge dropoff into a little shallow pool of water that is also on raised ledge. the placement gives it interesting aesthetics, but also after you kill the shock likes, the muffled stable music kicks in the background and it becomes very peaceful. the little pool has lovely blue mist over it, and the privacy of being down in a cave while also hearing the music as to not feel detached from the world. and are some lovely brightbloom seeds right near it to make things prettier. just crouch link into the water and let link have some me time. or him time.
Honkai star rail would be better for this because even characters you can control are in their designated locations in the world while in genshin you know they exists and their jobs but cant survey them in person

7:54 I always get a kick out of thinking about the population of Cyrodiil in the time of Oblivion, feels like 40% guards, 40% necromancers and bandits, 10% beggars and 10% citizens.
The professional gourmet is, by definition of being a proffesional, employed; Being paid to eat is a job that exists. Eury however, probably wasn't employed, her drunk of a husband looked to be of nobility, he probably gets an annuity from his estate that funds his drinking and her shopping, so it evens out.

Taking coins from a fountain is basically the opposite of stealing, unless it's a known magic wishing well at which point you couldn't take the coins anyways, it's just making use of money people litterally have thrown away for no sane reason.
mond is a wine city with the winery being one of the major employers, though the winery is outside the city. Theres also springvale mostly populated by hunters though one of the playable characters who works in the city (diona) is from springvale. (also the windmills are mentioned by an NPC to be helping pump water(?)) ALSO nimrod is technically employed as he works as an informant for kaeya in at least one quest, and you would imagine that does pay. this is to say a LOT of monds working population seems to work outside the city along with most of the knights having been taken by the grandmaster Varka on an expedition (hence Jean only being acting grand master), the playable characters are employed too! (last i remember there are 19(?) playable characters who live in mond) I think the only CURRENTLY playable mond character not consistently employed is razor, wolf boy who lives in the woods (though he does seem to adventure with bennett sometimes in events so he might be getting paid for commissions) amber, kaeya, lisa, noelle, jean, klee, eula and mika are affiliated with the knights of favonius (albedo is too but he is also an alchemist and he seems to be focusing on that - sucrose works with him) diluc runs the wine industry, diona works as a bartender, mona works as an astrologist, barbara is deaconess of the church and rosaria is a nun there, venti is a bard. fischl and bennett are both employed by the adventurers guild as well.
The debate about Flora amuses me, because one of Klee’s voiceovers indicates that Mondstadt has no concept of child labor.

Man, the fact that you take the time to motion track the "EMPLOYED" popups with the camera movement in the games, is completely unnecessary and I'm sure takes a lot of extra time - but boy does it show your dedication to making these videos fun and interesting to watch.
I agree, Austin always makes the little details count!

That was funny

2:16 Donna is actually an employee of Floral Whisper (Flora's shop). She tells you off if you touch the flowers, so her job is to keep an eye on the goods.
You also missed Alfred, an old bard who shows up in the morning at the graveyard.
Does the city bridge count? Lynn the Survival Expert of the Adventurer's Guild is just outside the city, near the bridge.
And a few other people too im sure
@applecake2209 They probably talked to Timaeus, but didn't show it in the video, I think they skipped Helen, the bard that sings from the balcony above the adventures guild. I'm surprised Mem didn't mention the Dawn Winery to the south of Mondstadt. There's so much alcohol in the city because they're a wine town. It's also possible the windmills are helping in the production of wine somehow.
Not to mention wine is their biggest export

@@PiousMoltarThat she didn't recognise Vile is telling (Vile is Kaeya's informant)
They also didn't enter the cat's tail and didn't count all the playable characters, all of which (even Klee) have a job
The windmills are connected to the piping system that draw in water.
Katheryne isn't a person though, she's a robot
@@CircusFoxxo Robot literally translates to "worker", so it super-counts
@@CircusFoxxo she has consciousness and, to an extent, free will, i'd say that counts as a person enough, she just doesn't require living commodities.
@@iota-09 she in fact has neither of those. Nahida freely takes her over through the Akasha because she's a puppet with no free will or consciousness to override.

I would say there are several playable characters who don't appear but who are residents of Mondstadt and are employed (Jean, Lisa, Diluc, ect), so they should have been counted
I was thinking the same thing. Pretty much all playable Mondstadt characters are children or employed. Fichl might be the only exception
@@Doublee73 Fischl is employed at the Adventurer's Guild.
Diluc technically lives in his mansion outside the city, kaeya im pretty sure lives in the cavalry barracks though!
Well if they wanted to be counted they should have been present for the survey
Mona is also UNemployed though and unlike the rest of them her house is literally Right There
19:19 actually, you commented earlier in the video about the abundance of taverns, which ties directly to monstadt's most notable export, that being wine! monstadt is famous for its dandelion wine, and the dawn winery estate on the outskirts of monstadt is huge and employs a large amount of people, so much so that the head of it (diluc ragnvindr) is very influential in the city despite not belonging to the knights in any way
Yeah, saying Mondstadt has "no clear export" is a baffling miss
This is a powerful video because the Genshin devs might see this and actually patch in jobs for these layabouts.

Which one is the quest/dialog about Nimrod being an informant for Treasure Hoarders? I can't remember
@@catto1003 It's from "Currents Deep Beneath the Lanterns" during the first lantern rite event, so unfortunately it's not something you can still access in game. Kaeya sends you to meet an informant towards the end of the quest and it turns out to be Nimrod.

You know, I really like the implication that either 1) all of the places/games you've done surveys in exist in the same universe/world, or 2) the Bureau of Labor Statistics is some otherworldly bureaucratic entity with access to transdimensional travel, and is just really concerned with the state of the local economies.
The second one is the intent according to Austin himself. He replied to a comment in another video.

3) There are playable characters who are employed that you missed to count for, off the top of my head are Diona (A child tho) working as a barista, Jean the "Mayor", Lisa the librarian, Albedo is an alchemist, Barbara a priestess, Amber works with the guards, Sucrose another alchemist, Eula has some military rank, Mika a cartographer, Diluc and Kaeya also work but don't live in mondstat but just outside still in the region.
4) The sick girl can be cured and become an adventurer, also outside of the town there's ppl that live there but work outside

Five little errors I noticed since I'm absolutely obsessed with this game:
Donna works at Flora's flower shop! You learn this during one of the quests during Mondstadt where you have to go buy from her
Flora is actually canonically an adult, and her flower shop is a legit store. There just happen to be short adults in Genshin (I think we all *really* know why, considering 98% of them are women...)
Anna *is* severely ill, like you said, but she's actually also canonically only a teenager! When you do her quests, she's referred to as a "child." (Edit: She also becomes an adventurer after you finish her quests and cure her illness, which is also in line with other canonically-older-teens like Fischl!)
Sansa actually *is* employed as a bard. In Teyvat, anyone with that title is canonically employed
Herman actually *is* retired. There's no minimum retirement age
I also think you missed a few people/buildings (like Timaeus and Sara, and the people in the Cat's Tail), but you may have just cut them out. It also would have been cool to see you factor in the playable characters, or even characters in Mondstadt but outside of the city. I get how those could have taken way longer tho
Anyway, great video! I'd love to see more!! :3
Edit: Either fellow Genshin fans are doing their usual “No she’s short so she must be a child!!!” like they love to do with Diona, Sayu, Nahida and Dori, or they’ve once again changed Mondstadt’s story, because when I played through it was explicitly stated that Flora is an adult. Who knows. This game is an absolute nightmare when it comes to getting a straight answer because of how much the English translation teams fucks everything up and how much fans love to deny canon ages, lol
flora does run the shop, but based on venti's story quest, she's most likely a child (in development she was an adult though)
@@AlexDown1 huh? what are you talking about?
Well...canonically... No, I don't know much about this game, it's just funny to see "canonically" this much in random places
Too bad this game's basic gameplay loop gets annoying over time. I like the world and generally like the story, but...
My thoughts:
1. Should totally go check the other regions of Mondstadt. Winery, Dragonspine and villages
@@ambersunnyamber Then it's only Itto then. And maybe Kuki but I think she takes side gigs regularly to keep the Arataki gang afloat

But are the slums residents actually employed?
@@gaIIowsCaIibrator I think it would probably have pretty high unemployment, but like. Natasha works at the clinic so she has a job. There’s a working hotel. Maybe you could also count wildfire members as employed since they’re kinda like the police/public service folks down there.
what are the chances of the underworld slum have higher employment rate than the overworld city lol
Windmills such as these are almost certainly used seasonally for grain processing, potentially even barely. In Germanic medieval culture can also double as a keep for city watch (see Mule am wall)
5:45 actually anna is later cured and becomes an adventurer after you do her daily commissions.
Some corrections I'd like to point out regarding the statistical data collected in the video:
-Mondstadt does have a unique and popular export industry of wine.
It was fun.
this was a great video!! absolutely loved it, especially since it's about the game that ate up my life for two years. the mistakes are completely understandable since you're not toobfamiliar with it yet, but i hope you'll consider doing more!
the game itself is very alive, so people move around a lot (like you saw with Six-Fingered José) so i feel you may have missed a few people aside from the ones I already saw mentioned by others. specifically, i'm thinking of the nun in white who is the wife and mother to the father and child inside the church and of the knight-in-training beside the knights of favonius headquarters.
also i'd like to point out that Patton (man outside Angel's Share) is not technically employed. if you talk to him a little more, you'll find he's in more of an indentured servitude/forced labor situation under the playable character Diluc for accidentally breaking a vase.
idiot the drinking fool is my favorite character
I still have no idea how a video on figuring out unemployment rates in video games is so entertaining. You've taken something so boring and mundane in real life and made it interesting. Hats off to you sir!

Forgot to go into the Cat’s Tail, sad because it would have been fun to see some playable characters show up.

Anna actually does get a job later on when her illness is cured. She becomes an adventurer.
I really hopes you'll continue with Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, and Fontaine. It'll be interesting.
Surprised it’s not higher, Mondstadt is the city of freedom.
A few notes from a Genshin addict:
Albert the nun stalker is actually stalking a teenage girl nun, Barbara. The hot nun Mem was likely talking about is named Rosaria, and dresses like a hooker. lol
There are playable characters that don’t show up on the overworld but definitely live in Mondstadt.
This was great to read as someone who doesn't play it
I doubt Albedo's homonculus status matters here.
Actually wait Gunnhildr founded the Church right?? I guess that counts for. Something.
I don't think cat's tail was accessible to enter before tcg

Venti is unemployed, but he is a god so probably employed

As for bathroom stuff you can literally just use any local Walmart or other such business. We have a mall with nice big private bathrooms here that I really like.
@@andrekotz7803 To clarify, I do want to get a job again and rejoin society. After all I want a house, wife and kids like anyone else. I just want a normal quiet life.
i love these videos so much, it's always a delight when i see the notification pop up
Wait until you get to the other cities with dozens more named and unnamed NPCs and some look like they have jobs but no one isn't really sure if they're on break or just loitering in the area
It might be intentional (and I assume homeboy doesn’t play the game, which is fair) but the Knights do have 9 additional employees as playable characters, who I presume must live in the city, plus 2 more at the church, 2 more from the Adventurer’s Guild, and an astrologer who is employed as an editor for a foreign newspaper
And maybe Venti if being a god counts as employed
"I mean if you put a pickaxe in her hand and pointed a gun at her head" jesus christ man 😂😂
My headcannon is that the windmills provide such abundant passive automation that the cost of living in the city is extremely low. There might not even be enough jobs at the moment.
I know literally nothing about Genshin Impact, but I was craving an unemployment video and your backlog delivered. Thank you.
Mondstat has an export culture particularly around their high quality dandilion wine which is sold teyvat over, the windmills are presumably involved in the production of the wine.
Mem is great! You guys collabing together have great energy.
I'd love to see you figure wealth disparity into this equation. 😊
As many these days are experiencing, being employed more often does not equate to prosperity.
2:03 was brutal I was giggling so much at that. Austin is savage lmao
Genshin 2020: How do I play
Genshin 2023: Mondstadt has an employment problem
6:00 one thing to note tho, Anna is employed now, she accept's commision at adventurers guild, she's an Adventurer
also, inside cat's tail you can see many people employed and also rich folks who play cards all the time
7:42 Also Glory has a boyfriend who is employed as Knight of Favonius but he wasnt in town so you wont find him there.
1. another great vid lmao
2. i'm sure this has been suggested before, crash team racing (ps1) has some fantastic odd and unremarkable spots. such as the pier or the crashed ship shortcut in the very first track, loved chilling near the back as a kid despite literally no reason you would be or even see that spot just playing the game.
"Total surface payroll is 48 persons"
*goes to Wiki*
"There are 232 NPCs who appear in Mondstadt."
The wiki counts the entire nation. This video only surveys the main city
10:15
This guy owns like half of the real estate in Mondstadt. He's the second backbone of the Mondstadt economy following Diluc.
" he is too drunk to see me and its 745 am" GG.
16:18 with those names, they must be going to Scarborough Fair.
*seeing the title* Oh i bet Mem convinced Austin to do this
*30 seconds in* No, mems just here, probably holding the bureau at knife point
Honkai star rail would be better for this because even characters you can control are in their designated locations in the world while in genshin you know they exists and their jobs but cant survey them in person
City is half empty as a part of the story, a large force is on the front lines dealing with a crisis, up north
Gonna keep commenting as I watch to keep helping boost you because you definitely deserve way more subs and views. Your content is so fucking funny, and your ideas are really unique. Thanks for what you do Austin! Really glad I found your channel and can binge your content.
7:54 I always get a kick out of thinking about the population of Cyrodiil in the time of Oblivion, feels like 40% guards, 40% necromancers and bandits, 10% beggars and 10% citizens.
Anna does get employed later when you help her recover, she later becomes an adventurer.
They get money from guild
omg PLEASE do more genshin cities, id love to see you struggle your way through liyue harbor or sumeru city 😂
I did not think this would be so interesting I need this for the rest of the regions
this is my favorite unemployment survey you've done so far, I'm loving the series and hope you continue doing other games :D
Vile as employed is correct, a later quest reveals she works as a spy for the Knights
"We have a lot of respect for our friends in the intelligence department" pans to Human rights violations by the CIA. I broke down laughing at this one, jesus !
Anna is unemployed because she later has a quest where we get her medicine, she actually getting better afterwards and then becoming an adventurer.
(also the windmills are mentioned by an NPC to be helping pump water(?))
ALSO nimrod is technically employed as he works as an informant for kaeya in at least one quest, and you would imagine that does pay.
this is to say a LOT of monds working population seems to work outside the city along with most of the knights having been taken by the grandmaster Varka on an expedition (hence Jean only being acting grand master),
the playable characters are employed too! (last i remember there are 19(?) playable characters who live in mond) I think the only CURRENTLY playable mond character not consistently employed is razor, wolf boy who lives in the woods (though he does seem to adventure with bennett sometimes in events so he might be getting paid for commissions)
amber, kaeya, lisa, noelle, jean, klee, eula and mika are affiliated with the knights of favonius (albedo is too but he is also an alchemist and he seems to be focusing on that - sucrose works with him)
diluc runs the wine industry, diona works as a bartender, mona works as an astrologist, barbara is deaconess of the church and rosaria is a nun there, venti is a bard. fischl and bennett are both employed by the adventurers guild as well.
