The Japanese have a major appreciation for funk/jazz fusion. And for that, I have major appreciation for the Japanese! I've listened to a few of their musicians. I was impressed with Akiko Yano. And I've listened to Toshiki Kadomatsu's entire After 5 Clash album. I really enjoy listening to J-Pop.
If you like the bass player, Domino Line from Mint Jams is a must. Possibly the greatest bass solo of all time in my opinion.
