    you NEED to listen to the 1981 album "The Rainbow Goblins" by Masayoshi Takanaka. It's a concept album, with musical narrative sections (kinda like a Gizz album, eg Murder of the Universe) about a book of the same name by Italian author Ul de Rico. It's funky as fuck, has a crazy story about 7 goblins, each a different color of the rainbow, who travel through the land catching rainbows and stealing their color. It's one of 8 albums out of the ~300 I've reviewed that I've given a 10.

    I think Casiopeas top work is Mint jams live album and it also features this song too, nice to see you enjoy them! I wonder if you will enjoy Gabor Szabos album called Dreams, its abit jazzy, but more ambient and feel oriented than technique and all of that. it's great part is the way Gabor mixes in national motives to create these ethereal atmospheres.
    In my opinion jazz appreciation comes with experience, and for the most part people who like jazz are musicians themselves, it's very common for musicians to take inspiration from jazzmen and jazz records to shape their own style and sound, but saying that i do not mean that everysingle jazzhead out there must play some instrument, there are people who just enjoy this way of music, cause althou jazz is a genre it's really diverse.

    Im glad you enjoyed it man! Thank you for checking it out. This whole album is great, so is there live album “Mint Jams”. Also this band is one of the japanese jazz fusion bands that inspired the composers of nintendo music, so you hit the nail right on the head talking about video game menu music. Thanks again, keep up the great videos!

    You should definite check out a live version of the song "Black Joke" by them, specifically the 1979 version. That bass solo is the most unreal thing I've ever seen.

      Domino line isn’t off of self titled, it’s originally from cross point but the live version is off of mint jams

    a lotttt of japanese jazz fusion was an inspiration to the soundtracks for some of the gran turismo games, so that must be the kinda games you're thinking of

    • @acetylen42
      @acetylen42 9 місяців тому +1

      Not just inspiration, Masahiro Ando from jazz fusion band T-Square is actually a composer for most of Gran Turismo's music. The main theme "Moon over the castle" is literally T-Square's "Knight song" but with guitar melody instead of an EWI.

    So cool to see you review this one! You were spot on, these guys were a huge influence on early video game music. Especially in the early 90s around the Playstation era. Mario Kart 8 today draws a lot from bands like Casiopea.
    This is a great short UA-cam video on Cassiopeia and their connection to video game music: ua-cam.com/video/RVzld8ES9hQ/v-deo.html
    Another similar recommendation would be Masayoshi Takahashi - Speed of Love., he was/is another insane Japanese jazz fusion legend popular in the 70s. He shreds insane surfboard shaped guitars and was another big influence on video game music.

    You need to come back to them dude. Listen to “Mint Jams” in my opinion the best live album of all time. Sounds better than most studio albums I mean it. A couple videos for a few of the songs on that album so don’t forget.

    Casiopea's Self-Titled is amazing and a personal favorite of mine, but its a double-edged sword for me since it was the best album they ever did imo. Super Flight and Make Up City are fighting for second place and Crosspoint is a distant third. As for their 2 peak like albums, Thunder Live and Mint Jams, they swap back and forth for me.
