Plain nonfat Greek yogurt doesn't cut it for me. I need a bit of fat to emulsify and usually mix yogurt with low fat mayo. This recipe looks great, though, and I'm going to give it a try!
You are so welcome! Exactly, for 1 cup avocado oil I can have 3 large containers of Greek yogurt, and I enjoy it much more this way, light but as much as good.
I added some garlic to this. Then I mashed up some leftover cold cooked salmon, 1/2 an avocado and 2 teaspoons of the dressing. TDF! Served on homemade seed bread. Made without flour and sugar.
I use plain greek yogurt as the dressing for Waldorf salad (apples, celery, grapes or raisins, walnuts). So delicious! And BTW, making mayo at home using olive oil turns out bitter and inedible.
I learned from America's Test Kitchen that beating olive oil too much can cause bitterness. I don't know about making mayonnaise, but I once ruined a batch of hummus that way. Then I found out about over-beating olive oil, and now I add it last. Even if this tip doesn't help with mayo, I hope this helps someone with some other dish!

Taking into consideration the Star Wars mug you presented in one of your videos, I hope you won't mind that I named this "The Obi-Wan sauce". The story behind the name is short yet tasty. About month ago I decided to finally give Star Wars a try and watched Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, I absolutelly fell in love. I made some tortilla chips with this healthy mayo to snack on during the show and now every time I taste this sauce only one thing is on my mind: Star Wars 😄 Hence the glorious name "The Obi-Wan sauce". Thank you for your awesome recipes and may the Force be with you!
I have been looking for a healthy and easy recipe for mayonnaise since most of the commercial mayo have bad oils, high fructose corn syrup, and things you can't pronounce... The "healthy " ones are expensive and usually close to expiration date AND they taste rancid at best. I am ecstatic to find this recipe! I will add a bit of raw honey and organic paprika! YES!!! Thank you for rescuing my favorite dish which was waiting for the perfect mayonnaise!!!
Here in the US, for chips or vegetable crudite we commonly make a dip out of sour cream and either powdered onion soup mix or powdered ranch dressing. My fiancee prompted me to try making it with Greek Yogurt and it a wonderful low-fat, high protein alternative. I have also started making a pseudo milk for breakfast cereal by mixing 1tbsp Greek Yogurt with a 1/2tps honey and then thinning it out with water.
I have a very healthy diet and eat almost no processed foods and almost no hydrogenated oils except for mayo, which I love and use a lot. I have been looking for a replacement and can't wait to try this recipe. Thanks.
You can make mayo with any type of oil to avoid hydrogenated fat. It's simple and tastes great. Sometimes I mix homemade mayo 1:1 with Greek yogurt, that's very light and tasty.
Thank you so much for this recipe, can not wait to try it out. I have been looking for a substitue and this sounds great.. Look forward to trying out more of your health recipes....have a lovely day!!

Looking forward to making this. Looks amazing and most of all easy to make, not to mention less in calories. And yes, duration stored in refrigerator? A week, less than a week?
Yeah, making this Greek yogurt mayo is a double win, and for duration, well I would say up to 2 weeks, but the more it is exposed to air (how ofter do you open the container), the shorter it will keep in the fridge.
I LOVE Potato Salad, but the high calories + pretty much always having Soybean Oil leads to me rarely eating it. I'm definitely going to have to try some homemade using this.
Exactly, it's such a huge difference in nutrition, and the taste is just on point, and you can always add your touch to it. Glad you like the idea Hazel, and thanks for sending over your comment! Enjoy your week too!
Thank you, i made homemade mayo yesterday and figured there had to be better low cal options, and here we go. Gonna buy some greek stuff next time i'm at the shop, this is 1/4 of the calories!
Love it, thank you. I made some this evening to go on my salad, added some herbs and some garlic powder😋, I won't be buying shop mayonnaise anymore that's for sure 😀.
Well, the simplest, healthiest, and by far most delicious is homemade mayonnaise: quality organic cold-pressed oil - olive or other, free-range egg yolk, freshly squeezed organic lemon juice, and natural sea salt. Beat the egg yolk in a bowl with a wire whisk and slowly add oil, drip by drip, beating steadily. As it thickens naturally, add oil faster in a thin stream until all is blended and the mayonnaise is thick and golden. Stir in sea salt and lemon juice. This takes less than a minute and is so delicious that you will be tempted to eat all of it with a spoon! P.S. Mustard, garlic powder, etc. are not needed and muddy the taste.
@@user-ti1tk2fu3h The yolk is eaten raw, and, yes, if you keep it, it should be refrigerated. But the idea is not to make enough to keep - just enough for what you want right away.
A great alternative oil for making mayo and for cooking in general is high oleic sunflower oil. It has the same healthy fat composition like olive oil but it's neutral tasting because it's still from sunflower seeds. Thank me later.
Now do a hollandaise sauce! Never been a fan of mayo and typically use an vinaigrette over a mayo or ranch topping. Of course if I had homemade mayo I might like it but American eggs are notorious for their recalls.
Have you checked out a health food store or local farmer for organic or at least free range eggs? I buy mine at the health store who gets their eggs from a local producer.
I agree, to make a good homemade mayo it's best to use some organic eggs, but I think the problem is with oils you use. Vegetable oil - highly processed, olive oil - too strong, avocado oil - too expensive... so I choose Greek yogurt any day.
I really do like mayo and I especially like the Avocado Mayo from Primal. I will soon be trying the Chosen Avocado Mayo brand. But I love the idea of this yogurt version of Mayo. I could absolutely live with that as well!
What I like about this is that it does not require a seed oil, like Sunflower oil. You cannot make an egg mayonnaise with olive oil, the taste is disgusting. But Sunflower oil, like all seed oils but sesame, is very high in Omega-6, which is very inflammatory. I'm glad to reminded of a way out - I used to make all my mayo with yoghurt, but then I drifted away - but it was always quick to make and delicious. I'll be going back to it. Thank you.
Balsamic vinegar works well, so does pickle juice. I use oil if I'm making it for others but leave the fat out for myself, it makes the texture a lot nicer but it's not bad the without it. Greek yogurt works as a replacement for sour cream as a condiment, I haven't tried to replace sour cream as a cooking ingredient though.
Mayo isn't bad because of fat. It's bad because almost all brands use soybean oil aka "vegetable" seed oils that are very bad for you. If you make your own mayo out of olive oil or avocado oil, it is fine.
@@firelow You anti-fats have been proven wrong over and over. It is sugar that is the real danger, not fat. Outside of trans-fats which is the same kind of industrial fake "vegetable" oils I was talking about.
Love Greek yogurt, I'd just as soon make tzitziky. With cucumber. Instead of a fake mayo. Egg and oil mayo is perfectly healthy. Use light olive oil or avocado oil. The calories and fat from eggs are the best you can get, that's why it's the best food for babies...
O my. Your recipes all look v exciting and nutritious. I ask the heavens why you show up only after about 10 months of my search? Thank you mr Sasha. 🥰🇵🇭
Greek Jogurt usually has 10g fat per 100g. You're also adding olive oil so in the final product, 100g has a lot more than 2g fat. Nowhere near as much as 75g but the 2g is very misleading. Also if you say "use low fat Jogurt" well sure, but then the taste suffers, because fat tastes good that's why all the yummy sauces (think döner cocktail sauce mmm) have a lot of fat in them. But other than that I will give this a try, I usually do tzatziki with a mix of normal Jogurt and low fat Jogurt. This could be a real alternative to being more variety :)
Thank you for great healthy salads creams, instead of Mayonnaise... I love the taste of Mayonnaise for potato salads, or for Tuna sandwiches, but I dare mot use it often, so I buy Mayonnaise only just once or twice a year! So now I am happy to see your wonderful ingredients, for tasty and healthy salads sauce. Thank you God bless 🌿🙏
Your greek yoghurt has pretty wild macros compared to greek yoghurts I find in the store. That extremely low fat and extremely high protein for greek yoghurt is quite interesting.
I like to use sour cream or light sour cream. I also add olive oil and lemon and dried mustard, but prepared mustard is nice for the vinegar, so usually both. Then season.
Mayo doesn't have to be unhealthy. I make mine with avocado oil and organic egg yolks which are a powerhouse of nutrition. Yogurt will never give food the same taste and with added vinegar it's too sour. I prefer the real things as long as it's made with right ingredients
Funny story… While visiting family in The South (Georgia USA), I made a homemade chili. Everyone said they didn’t eat yogurt. I had a thick, creamy Greek yogurt on hand, put it in a bowl and passed it around with some cheddar and they all assumed it was sour cream! They gobbled it all up!
I made this and it was tasty, but it didn’t give me the same mouthfeel as regular Mayo, and in certain applications I think I would be missing that. However, I added a touch of honey, a little extra oil, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley, and it made a fantastic ranch dressing. I tasted it side by side with some store bought ranch and the version made from this recipe knocked it out of the park

I made some tortilla chips with this healthy mayo to snack on during the show and now every time I taste this sauce only one thing is on my mind: Star Wars 😄 Hence the glorious name "The Obi-Wan sauce". Thank you for your awesome recipes and may the Force be with you!
❤❤❤
Please can you make a video of essential groceries to get that you usually use in most of your recipes? Like oats, Greek yogurts.. Etc
I will be sharing more of this stuff under the community tab, but yes I will think about it, which model would be the best to share these tips.
I really appreciate you taking time out to share your healthy recipe alternative for mayonnaise. It looks really creamy. Thank you very much!
Thanks Loretta for your kind feedback, I'm happy to able to help with my recipes.
You r just amazing.Luv you Sasha for making my life so easy.Always searched a healthy substitute. THANKS SOOO MUCH.🥰❤️
So glad you love the idea of making a healthier substitute for mayo. Thanks for supporting!
Hi! Glad you like the idea of making a healthy mayo substitute, hope you'll enjoy the recipes!
OMG! This was so good. I actually prefer it to regular mayo. Just tripled the salt. Definitely don't forget the chili paste.
Thank you - this really did the trick! ✅✨🙏
This recipe is wonderful - I"m going to give it a try!! Thank you!!
Hope you like it!
I love your channel with healthier recipes. So helpful. Everything looks so delicious too. I really want to try to make some of the recipes. Please keep them coming! 🤗🥧🍫
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching and supporting, so happy you enjoy the content!
I tried it and I think it is fantastic. It is my go to mayo all the time.
once again, you are a dynamo in the kitchen 🙂
😊 thank you for supporting, that's really kind of you
That potato salad at beginning looked very tasty
Looking forward to making this. Looks amazing and most of all easy to make, not to mention less in calories. And yes, duration stored in refrigerator? A week, less than a week?
Maybe it's just me, but mine stays for up to 3 weeks. I make mine in a small jar so there's less to replace/discard.
Yeah, making this Greek yogurt mayo is a double win, and for duration, well I would say up to 2 weeks, but the more it is exposed to air (how ofter do you open the container), the shorter it will keep in the fridge.
This is a good salad dressing to me, using in salad i make it a slightly sweeter. Thanks for this good recipe.
Yeah, definitely a delicious salad dressing. Thanks for your feedback!
This recipe looks delicious 🤤 easy and simple 😋 thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching!
I like how concise your videos are. Straight to the point and easy to follow. Thanks!
I LOVE Potato Salad, but the high calories + pretty much always having Soybean Oil leads to me rarely eating it. I'm definitely going to have to try some homemade using this.
Yeah, this makes such a healthy and delicious potato salad, have fun!
There is Avocado Oil mayonnaise.
I think your main advantage here is the protein content. Cool idea!
This sure,was a lovely 😍 idea 👍,thanks for sharing 😀.Best wishes Simon and Beth ❤️ 🙋 😍
Thank youuuuu!!! I’ve been trying to stay away from PUFAS and have really been missing my mayo. I swear you read my mind
This sounds amazing Sasha! What a difference in the nutritional values too . . . 👌👏 TFS and have a great week! 👍 💖
Hello, thank you for this recipe, I will be using it 😊 How much time will it last in the fridge?
Hi there, hope you'll enjoy the change, well I would say no more than 2 weeks, just like you would have your Greek yogurt that's been opened.
@@HowToCookSmarter Thank you 😁
Love it, thank you.
Won't you cook the egg yolk? And do you have to refrigerate it?
I'm 68 never seen or heard of an egg recall
Thank you this is great. I will make this from now on and hope it will not spike my blood sugar like mayo does.
Light olive oil is what I use to make my mayo. An egg, dash of salt, white vinegar . Also very healthy
Great one too!
Thank you.
You can of casue use cod liver oil instead!
High oleic sunflower oil is 82% Omega-9 - use that instead
Try Light Olive Oil It has the same amount of monounsaturated fats as regular grassy Olive Oil and is practically tasteless
0:50 problem is joghurt is alredy acidic.
Youve helped me!! My 18 year old daughter goes through mayo like nothing😅No she can make her own healthier much cheaper version
Mayo isn't bad because of fat. It's bad because almost all brands use soybean oil aka "vegetable" seed oils that are very bad for you. If you make your own mayo out of olive oil or avocado oil, it is fine.
Exactly! Homemade mayo is a great option, but olive oil mayo is too strong for my taste and avocado oil I don't even buy, it's too expensive here.
Wrong
correct
@@firelow You anti-fats have been proven wrong over and over. It is sugar that is the real danger, not fat. Outside of trans-fats which is the same kind of industrial fake "vegetable" oils I was talking about.
80% of mayo is oil, how it's not bad? Olive oil is still oil. They are both bad, the difference is that seed oil is worse
Any idea on what the self life would be for this ? Can i store it for ready use just like store bought mayo or not ?
Love Greek yogurt, I'd just as soon make tzitziky. With cucumber. Instead of a fake mayo.
Egg and oil mayo is perfectly healthy. Use light olive oil or avocado oil. The calories and fat from eggs are the best you can get, that's why it's the best food for babies...
Yeah, nothing beats a homemade Tzatziki!
O my. Your recipes all look v exciting and nutritious. I ask the heavens why you show up only after about 10 months of my search?
Thank you mr Sasha. 🥰🇵🇭
Hi Cynthia! Thanks for your kind feedback, and trust me, it's never too late!
Great recipe !
Thanks
How do you store the mayo?
And how long does it keep ?
Glad you like it! I keep it in the fridge, in plastic container, for up to 2 weeks.
Soft tofu drained , pickle juice, only a bit at a time onion powder blend on high to creamy
Love the idea!
Thank you
God bless 🌿🙏
Your greek yoghurt has pretty wild macros compared to greek yoghurts I find in the store. That extremely low fat and extremely high protein for greek yoghurt is quite interesting.
More fat needed.
I needed this so much. Thank you so much
Glad you find it helpful!
I'll add some dried dill and garlic powder to see it tastes like ranch.
Sure, that would be just great.
I did it today and it was great. Thank you.
Funny story…
While visiting family in The South (Georgia USA), I made a homemade chili. Everyone said they didn’t eat yogurt. I had a thick, creamy Greek yogurt on hand, put it in a bowl and passed it around with some cheddar and they all assumed it was sour cream! They gobbled it all up!
