- Officer Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) is recovering in the hospital after being buried alive. Her training officer, Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), is watching over her and fellow rookies John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Jackson West (Titus Makin) come to visit as well. I love this moment between Lucy and Tim. He obviously stayed there all night, managed to make her laugh as soon as she woke up and knew how to give her exactly what she wanted. It was BEAUTIFUL
I like to imagine he picked that magazine up at the last minute when she started waking up to hide the fact that he'd been watching her sleep, just waiting for her to open her eyes :)

At 0:40 after Chen asks Bradford if he's been there all night, she says "Mhm", which I just noticed re-watching the scene. Most likely implying she knows he's lying, as he's clearly awful at it haha. A wonderful little scene between them, and I personally hope they end up together!

These two are my favorite characters to watch. They're so great together. Tim puts on such a tough guy act and is so demanding. I can't imagine other Rookie's getting very far with him as their TO but Lucy likes that he pushes her to be better. They're both tough but they both care deeply too. I do hope they end up together one day. With the previous threat of being branded for dating a cop, and with Tim being her TO, Lucy will want to resist. And with Tim's previous marriage to a cop ending horribly, he's going to resist too. And then there's risk of distraction if they're working together when they have feelings for each other. It's a great set up for a complicated but beautiful relationship. I would be bitterly disappointed though if they got together in some cheap hook up and then couldn't stand working together. I love them on screen together and want to see more of it, not less.
Another rookie would do just fine with him as a TO. He's had rookies before her. No Police Officer recruit needs to be coddled. None of the the TOs do any coddling. There's nothing uniquely special about that.
@@a_noelle8595No, I agree, none of the TO's do any coddling and shouldn't, but I'm surprised you don't think Tim is harder on his rookie than the other TO's are on theirs. Yes, he has had rookies before but from what I gathered, they didn't get very far. He said that he had 11 of his rookie's wash out of the program on their Plain Clothes day. And when Tim found out Jackson was freezing up anytime shots were fired, he wanted Jackson kicked out of the program immediately until he found out Lopez's career would be over too. When it comes to Lucy, she was frustrated and bored when she was put with a cop that wasn't hard on her and didn't challenge her like Tim does. So I dunno...it's just my opinion, but I do feel like Lucy is a better match with Tim than other rookie's would be. She seems as determined to learn as he is determined to teach. And even though she's told him he's a pain in her ass, she appreciates the "tests" and the lessons he teaches, even if he does it the hardest way possible.
@@BlackFairyBug Okay. It's good that you think this way. Seems you really love the characters and the show. As do I. Guess I just don't romanticize everything. I don't think it's out of the ordinary for people to learn differently or generally like different methods, or for a rookie to prefer the TO they've been working with and learning from over being placed with another for a brief period of time. They are great together as a team. I have no argument for that. I'm simply not putting so much weight on it.

The way that she reaches for him in a clawing motion always catches at my heart. She was clawing to get out of the grave and she knew she was safe once he was there. He also taught her to be a cop, in that moment he was who she needed.
Lucy and Tim are so great together, love them and the way they connected!

Melissa O'Neil is such a perfect actress for this role and Eric Winter is soooo cool as well. I love the characters and actors on the Rookie as they all bring something to the show. This cast so much better than the shows the media and public slurp when they have long out lived their run -yes thats you Greys Anatomy

Dude I can’t even!!! For a strict n angry TO he doesn’t seem like one when u see him there. He was there by Lucy’s side (for sure), he wouldn’t stop looking for her, he knew what she’d like when she was hungry and he’s all over protective (like the others but still) of her dating anyone. Love how their relationship has grown but they better be the endgame

Looking at these comments (& others around UA-cam) there really is an obsession with people getting together romantically. I'm not saying these two couldn't or shouldn't get together. I'm just saying that he should care about her even if it's not because they're secretly falling in love. She's his recruit. He's her training officer. They work together as partners and spend most of that time one on one. How could he not care about her well being in this scenario? How could he not know her well? He felt partially responsible. What kind of heartless monster would he be if he didn't care?

u do realise that out of all of her friends there, tim freaked out the most. he got aggressive with some people trying to find her and was on the verge of tears at some point and when she finally got rescued, he was always by her side. her other friends went home, and came back in the morning. when it comes to tv shows then you'll know that how he reacted in the episode was obviously a giveaway that he feels something more. lucy has a lot of guy friend on the show, and yet tim was the one that stayed with her all night. That should tell u something.

These are your implications based on the character's actions. What you got out of it. What it means to you. But your observations don't take anything away from my comment which pointed out several reasons that are not romantic as to why someone in his shoes should/would care. Because seriously, there are other types of relationships where people care about each other's well being.
Putting them together romantically would be one way to go. It may be the way they go. But it's not the only way it could go. And folks should be okay with that.

Would be nice if more attention could be placed on the partnership and the friendship. Particularly in this case since this show basically began with her getting lectured on why it's a bad idea for her to get involved with another cop. These writers contradict themselves constantly. She and Nolan are peers and that relationship was frowned upon but somehow one with her direct superior is a-okay. 😒 Of course it is because... What else is there?
