Something similar happened to my mom once, she's a nurse and like, jeez, 30 years ago, when she was disposing of a needle someone else who "disposed" of one just before she did hadn't done it properly and she ended up getting stuck with the used needle. She had to go for testing periodically for a year to make sure nothing happened from it and she was very lucky nothing did and she was fine.
It's a good storyline, because cops have to deal with this issue all the time with needles and blood and bodily fluids getting spat at them. It's also really stupid because the person who needs an immediate blood test for HIV, HepC, TB, and MRSA is the person whose needle it was, and/or the needle itself. Yes, HIV is so amazingly powerful it will have infected Chen's cells enough to be detectable in her bloodstream only an hour after being exposed. In fact, you take antivirals, a blood test to make sure you don't already have it, and a repeat test in six months or so, and you and your partner have to use condoms for that length of time just in case.
wow that was crazy. I hope they fired that idiot for doing that. I am sure the amount of trauma that your mom went through was traumatizing. Thank god she was alright since there was no prevention meds for HIV at that time.

@user-nw7om2br5cI believe they test for the antibodies that your body produces when it comes in contact with the viruses. Checking for antibodies on the needle doesn’t look possible (I can be wrong here as I’m still in early years of med school). Well doing a PCR to detect viral DNA could be possible (like for some viruses, they take a swab and check for DNA/RNA, but I don’t know if it’s applicable in this situation. Notify supervisor, go to a hospital, Fill out workman's comp, fill out an injury report, get blood work done, and get the pills and then follow up with blood work.
nah that’s hockey pockey BS, wife’s a nurse she gets yelled and screamed at all day long and comes home crying that all the patients treats her like trash, also the waiting rooms are only for people who have appointments waiting for others filling out their personal info (that’s only if it’s your first time) and or are not emergencies shouldn’t have been brought to a hospital and should have been brought to a “doc in the box” aka MedExpress where you go for non emergencies, so if you show up with like a stomach ache ya you might wait a few hours, go to a medexpress you’ll be infront of a doctor in 2 minutes. but if you showed up in the waiting room even with a simple open cut they cannot let you go sit in the waiting room, so they’ll immediately bring you too a room to be helped. waiting in the waiting room with an urgent medical reason is all hollywood bullshit. doesn’t happen and has never happened in real life, and no matter how badly you treat the staff they’re held by law to treat you they cannot refuse treatment (unless giving a viable reason ) and if they do refuse treatment for no reason they can be arrested and sued for everything they’re worth. as long as your not belligerent an flipping out you can disrespect every person in the hostpital and you’ll still be treated the same, it’s an insult to all doctors nurses and hospitals staff too say they’d let petty emotions dictate whether or not they’d break the oath they took an would ignore a suffering person . the reason they became who they are is too help people , because they genuinely care about human life, an usually they’re a lot smarter than the people they’re dealing with, an they’re trained to deal with insufferable people so they know the persons just acting out of immaturity stupidity or fear so they act calmly and nicely because that’s how they were trained to handle out of control people, they were not trained to take out their own anger on patients , it’s a joke to even think that. you’d have to have the intelligence of a child to beileve that.
Not a cop but I totally get his reaction. It always feels weird when your colleague says thanks when I just give a consult for them. I personally never have gotten used to receiving a thank you or a recognicition by just doing my jobs.
My childhood friends uncle was in the army and they were running through a hospital when he got a needle in the thigh and contracted HIV which turned into AIDS. He died about 3 years later, and it’s always seemed so unfair.
It would have made no difference, if disease like AIDS or HIV goes in your blood washing the wound is like fixing a hole in a ship with some tap.... once in your blood you need to be treated in an hospital this is not something you can get rig of with disinfection

That's real life too. Say when a girl you fi d interesting tells you she likes you BUT she only sees you as a classmate nothing more. Or When you do well in an interviee and thr interviewee says BUT we have found a better candidate for the job position.
My doctors are sooo paranoid when I told then the first time I had sexual encounters but used protection and they were in my face telling me to get tested and would not let me go until I get blood tested. Now, I will just lie that I had sexual relations because then they get all alarmed. Reality, HIV does not show after several months of exposure. Doctors think they're hot shots.

Everyone at work tells me that the biggest danger I face working in the parking lot is getting hit by cars. I think the only thing worse then that, is finding used, disguarded needles. I never knoe what it was used for, what was in it or if the person who last used it had some serious illness.
ua-cam.com/video/1e5XvyQyvH4/v-deo.html Not really. He comes into a hostile situation, and looks at his partner before looking at the actual hostile situation and pulls his gun out afterwards. Such a bad move. Should have went into the room ready when she called for back up.
Test the needle for contamination, test her blood for other viral agents, and then she's on hand *in the hospital* in case anything shows positive. She showed positive for Staph, so she'd be able to get immediately put on either anti-bacterials or anti-virals to fight the staph infection before it can start weakening her immune system.
Been an officer for 4 years now... And that shit is is terrifying. Luckily, you can go and get what we call a "peanut butter shot" and even if it had HIV, in most cases it won't take hold. I remember when I got cut by a razor back when I worked in the prison... So stressful to deal with.
My sister is a Nurse at a prison facility and one night she was taking out a bag of hazardous waste which is a bag full of needles that the nurses inject into the prisoners for medications or whatever it be. As she lifted the bag, she spun it in a circle to tighten up the bag n tie a knot. Little did she know there was an open needle somewhere in the bag and accidentally stuck her pinky with it as she was tightening the bag. (Usually needles are supposed to be capped before being disposed of for this exact reason) she was then sent on a paid leave for a couple days as doctors ran multiple test and kept an eye on her vitals. Luckily she didn’t catch hep c or HIV, the needle was clear of any disease and she’s back at work and healthy. These type of accidents are actually very common. Be safe people.
Why the hell don't they use sharps containers? Idk what part of the world your sister lives in, but where I'm from, doctors dont put needles in garbage bags, capped or not.
Maybe she just wanted his money faster. He didn't sign a DNR, said by herself, so... She could be just trying to kill her brother. Also, she doesn't have the "crystal ball"...
Happened to me while working on a drain where I got a needle in my hand. You just go to the hospital, get some medications to fight whatever may have gotten into your system and then you have to do a series of check ups for 3 months. Was told the chances are slim that anything would pass on and if it did the meds would kill
I grew up in a rough area and there'd be used syringes everywhere so you get into the habit of checking. Moved to a nicer area and completely lost that sense of caution and on returning to visit family, I got jabbed by a needle and had to get tested. Somehow managed to make the same mistake and got jabbed on another visit back home a month later and had to get tested again. When I went for my second test they did ask if I had anything about my lifestyle I'd like to disclose 🤣

nah that’s hockey pockey BS, wife’s a nurse she gets yelled and screamed at all day long and comes home crying that all the patients treats her like trash, also the waiting rooms are only for people who have appointments waiting for others filling out their personal info (that’s only if it’s your first time) and or are not emergencies shouldn’t have been brought to a hospital and should have been brought to a “doc in the box” aka MedExpress where you go for non emergencies, so if you show up with like a stomach ache ya you might wait a few hours, go to a medexpress you’ll be infront of a doctor in 2 minutes. but if you showed up in the waiting room even with a simple open cut they cannot let you go sit in the waiting room, so they’ll immediately bring you too a room to be helped. waiting in the waiting room with an urgent medical reason is all hollywood bullshit. doesn’t happen and has never happened in real life, and no matter how badly you treat the staff they’re held by law to treat you they cannot refuse treatment (unless giving a viable reason ) and if they do refuse treatment for no reason they can be arrested and sued for everything they’re worth. as long as your not belligerent an flipping out you can disrespect every person in the hostpital and you’ll still be treated the same, it’s an insult to all doctors nurses and hospitals staff too say they’d let petty emotions dictate whether or not they’d break the oath they took an would ignore a suffering person . the reason they became who they are is too help people , because they genuinely care about human life, an usually they’re a lot smarter than the people they’re dealing with, an they’re trained to deal with insufferable people so they know the persons just acting out of immaturity stupidity or fear so they act calmly and nicely because that’s how they were trained to handle out of control people, they were not trained to take out their own anger on patients , it’s a joke to even think that. you’d have to have the intelligence of a child to beileve that.
I’ve had quite a lot of staph infections before. They weren’t drug-related or anything, but they still hurt and scarred my skin

My childhood friends uncle was in the army and they were running through a hospital when he got a needle in the thigh and contracted HIV which turned into AIDS. He died about 3 years later, and it’s always seemed so unfair.
Shouldn’t she have like taken her stuff off so they could clean the wound or something?
It would have made no difference, if disease like AIDS or HIV goes in your blood washing the wound is like fixing a hole in a ship with some tap.... once in your blood you need to be treated in an hospital this is not something you can get rig of with disinfection

Made me laugh when the female cop pulled out the taser and the male cop pulled out the gun.
That’s how it works, one persons on less then lethal and ones on lethal, if the person does something like stabs the victim or charges the officers and the taser doesn’t deploy or work then you have lethal
