I just purchased a Kubota L2501. My dealer was great. Spent a lot of time with me answering questions and helping me to set up my new tractor to best fit my needs. I was also dealing on a new Mahindra as well but in the end , the Kubota won out. It was simply the best choice for me. I do not agree with the comments that the Mahindra tractors are junk. I have friends that have them and are very satisfied with them. We also have a really good dealer in the area. He too, spent a lot of time answering my questions. In the end, these Messick videos played a big part in my decision. I am in the Kubota family and you are stuck with me now Neil.
Mahindra is an India based company. They made tractors for International Harvester and made Willys Jeeps back in the day. The machines themselves perform well, service and parts are the downside since they are so new to the USA. Also, all tractors are foreign tractors these days. Mahindra has an assembly plant in Pennsylvania.
All tractors are not foreign, many are but the Kubota in the video, as well as 40% of their products are legitimately made here. The Mahindra "assembly plant" you are referring to in Pennsylvania is actually an old Walmart that closed up. An ex Kubota dealer runs the facility, its not owned by Mahindra. They mounts loaders, backhoes and puts tires on machines that come in from overseas and deliver them to dealers assembled. Since Mahindra's dealer network is typically not at the same level as other companies this removes the assembly responsibility from the dealer level. Not all the tractors are junk, the ones Mahindra builds themselves are near junk, but the Mitsubishi and TYM built machines are okay.
Messick Farm Equipment Thanks for the info. My father and I did a laborious job with comparisons when we purchased our tractor. We have a small grain, hay and cattle operation. We compared the Mahindra 8560 with I think a Kubota 8200. Both were comparable, but the Mahindra weighed 8,000 pounds compared to the Kubota at 6,000. You are correct, that doesn’t matter for most applications, but it does when your pulling a chisel plow, which we still do for planting sunflowers and sweet corn. The Mahindra was around $40,000, which was too good for the amount of beef we were getting compared to Kubota. Don’t get me wrong, Kubota makes GREAT equipment. For our operation, the Mahindra checked many boxes and 5 years later, we’ve had no issues. Like I said, service and parts are the only issue due to lack of dealers close to us, but I can order most things online and have them here in 3-5 days, which is sufficient for our operation. I have 2 Kubota zero-turn mowers that are wonderful. Kubota was relatively new to Southern Maryland a few years back and resembled Mahindra in terms of pricing (not factoring inflation, of course). As with any brand, as the following got stronger, the product (and price) rose. Like you said, matching a product to your needs is important.
@Deklyn Denison Mahindra (I think they had a different name then) had/has a license from Willys to build Jeeps for sale in India. I'm working from memory on this one, but I think I remember a 2-cylinder diesel in it from the early 80s. Like 15 horsepower or something, maybe 25. Fast forward to now and they're making a sort of jeep-looking thing that's legally an off-road-only vehicle that can't be registered for road use is the US. I don't know much else about them.
@Deklyn Denison That is true, but the same Jeep was made by multiple manufacturer's for the war department. Mahindra was one of the many manufacturer's that had the contract.
As a Mahindra fan and former Mahindra owner, I thought this was a decent comparison. I have sat on all colors and I do feel Mahindra has their place in the market. Here, they are indeed a little cheaper than most comparable models. We also have a very competitive Kubota dealer in the area and Mahindra hand no problems coming in under them - done so with out even waving Kubota prices in their face. I did step out of a Mahindra but not because of quality or anything else. I needed a larger machine and when shopping, the best bang for the buck became a blue one. Those darn NH Workmasters are just hard to beat for the money! As for Mahindra and the where its made / who made it fights, here's the current crop: eMax: made by TYM out of S Korea, powered by Daedong Max: Made by Mitsubishi out of Japan, powered by Mitsubishi 1500/1600 Series: Made by Mitsubishi out of Japan, "1526" & "1626" Powered by Mitsubishi, all others Mahindra. 2500/2600 Series: Made by TYM out of S Korea, powered by Mahindra 3500 Series and up are made by Mahindra out of India, powered by Mahindra. Implements come from all over including Amerequip, Kodiak, Bercomac, and others.
As a diesel mechanic...I'd feel much better if the whole thing was built in Japan. The US can not match Japanese quality. You see it time and time again.
Just FYI - I purchased a Mahindra 1538 (not the 1533 in the video) with loader and had the tires loaded with rim guard and delivery for 19,350.00. The kubota L3301 I checked out was quoted at 25,000.00. EASY DECISION My Mahindra has been great and way cheaper than a Kubota. I would have bought a Kubota if the price had been competitive but you get very little for the 6 thousand dollar difference. The 28K MSRP for the Mahindra mentioned in the video is laughable and not at all realistic.
+Casey Hoell dealer pricing can add huge swings and variation to the price. This is why we try to compare MSRP. The list price for these tractors is very close to one another. It's possible you got a very high price from a Kubota dealer at very low price for Mahindra. Very possibly could have been the right choice for you but likely will not ring true for others.
Perhaps you're correct and I won't disparage Kubota because I think they make fine tractors. I would also own John Deere, Yanmar, LS, New Holland, Kioti, Case and maybe some others (yes I know half of them are made by someone else). I do think the Kubota dealers in my neck of the woods are awfully proud (not as bad as John Deere though) and that's why they lost my business. Not trying to be a jerk, just wanted to state my experience. Enjoyed your video, make some more!!
You made the smart and correct decision....The 1533 and 1538 have a 50 hp block and DOES NOT REQUIRE THE DPF (particulate filter) or the DEF (blue fluid) that can be found on the Kubota.
CRD actually stands for common rail diesel which means that the injectors share a fuel rail and are controlled electronically as opposed to having a mechanical pump driving the injection pulses.
Most of his arguments are groundless. Why? Amount of Titanium used in allow can provide much more tensile strength than 5" thick axel. It would have been better if axels were taken apart and used hydraulics stress test to see the exact tensile strength.

I'm not defending mahindra but when you did the bottle test, it looked like the bottle was taped or had something sticky to it so it wouldn't fall off. It just looked that way.
Would that not be worse for the Mahindra? :-) after all, we're not so underhanded to tip the scales like that. Nor do we have the time on our hands to create demo's that are one-sided.
I thought I saw that also, but looking at the clip a second time, it looked like he was applying pressure to the bottle as a means of stabilizing himself when getting off the tractor.
I've used an old New Holland (1997) and a new New Holland (2018) skid steer. The old one beats you up in no time. It's shaking, it's screaming, but it does work hard. The new one is quiet and smooth, and works just as hard.
In over a year of this being up, not one person has pointed out something factually incorrect, dishonest, etc. That's more than you can say about just about any other tractor video.
when you are comparing a nice machine and a pos its easy to be biased haha. Mahindra is not as good of a machine as Kubota you will find no one with actual decent clear points as to why the Mahindra is better. you may see someone say something about the cup holders. if Mahindra reflected it in the price and their tractors were 15% cheaper on retail then I think a lot of points could be over looked but the fact that they are priced extremely close to the Kubota its hard to overlook the short fallings.

They are very different devices, that do very different things with the exhaust. The representation you gave on the Tier 4 could use some corrections, as the Mahindra has a huge advantage in the after treatment category.

I just looked up the info on where the Mahindra was manufactured. Everything about it states it is made in India. Nowhere is there anything that says mitsubishi. So where did you get that info from.

It has a Mitsubishi engine. They are assembled either in Pennsylvania or out west somewhere. Texas I think. None are sold in the U.S. that are already assembled. Kubota does however import all of their tractors. None get assembled in the U.S. Unless something changed recently.
So I actually know a little about this. I know the person who runs the facility in Pennsylvania. It's an old Walmart, they pretty much add tires and install implements. Nothing is really manufactured there, it's the same work dealers of other brands do themselves. I've also been to the Kubota facility in Georgia twice.. KMA. 40% of Kubota product is legitimately manufactured here. Kma employees 2400 people, and there are three more other Kubota manufacturing facilities in the area.
Did anyone notice when he picks up the bottle of water it looks like it was stuck and as he walked behind the other tractor it looks like he was peeling off something from the bottom of the water bottle, because when the O was running the water was moving but not the bottle, it didn't look right to me
Steve Armendariz sr no, he was digging through his keys for the mitsuhindra key. When he gets up you can clearly see thatbhe pushed down on the bottle, he didn't have to yank it off as it wasn't glued. Besides, if it were, you'd have seen vibration on the surface of the water.
I have a Kubota B 6000/2 cylinder diesel four-wheel-drive made back in the mid-70s 77 or 76 I think,,, built like a little Sherman tank Kubota really knows their stuff they make a good tractor or at least they did when they built my little B6000........
The Kubota in this case is made @ KMA in Georgia. This was a Japanese model at one point, they moved production here. The KMW loader is also 'Made in the USA'.
Messick's if a product says “made in USA”, it has to have a minimum amount of US materials in it in addition to being assembled here. “Assembled in USA” can be made of all foreign parts. The Mahindra tractors are made in India or Korea, kubotas are made in japan. You want a US made tractor, get a Deere.
The more popular Mahindra tractors are built by Mitsubishi in Japan, the Korean ones are built by TYM. The Deere compacts are made by Yanmar in Japan. You'll find Yanmar equivalents of their models if you look. You'll find 'Made in the USA' marks on many of the Kubota products. I've been to the factory twice. As odd as this is, with this tractor the Kubota is a more American product than the Deere. Fundamentally its a global marketplace and these conversations are a bit silly, but the realities are often far different than most people expect.
Its impossible to manufacture a kubota front to end,as in the case of mahindra.not denying the fact that kubota is better,but mahindra gives you what you pay for and gets the job done.
Well ur right.. u haven't seen or used a machine like Mahindra but still making comments...Farmers globally are fools to trust Mahindra then.. only ur dealership salesman knows about them by sitting in a air-conditioned show room.. without any practical application knowledge... BTW a tank's engine will have more vibration and noise ... Because they're meant for a purpose...they have to go out and spit fire..that doesn't mean that they r bad engines .. they have to rough... the purpose of the water bottle test in my opinion is not to show that the engine is good or bad. its to show how smooth the engine operates when you are sitting on a machine all day long and operating it that vibration can be extremely annoying and uncomfortable.
I was really surprised to find out that Kubota tractors actually aren't much more expensive than Mahindra tractors. For what you're getting I expected the price difference to be night and day, but they're pretty comprable.
I have owned both Kubota and JD tractors under 40 hp and lawn equipment over the years and the only real gripe about Kubota is the foot pedal when backing up doing alot of loader work. That said, I know when either is 10+ years old I have and been able to find any part I need,not so sure about the Mahindra.
Mahindra is an Indian company, but most of their tractors are built by other vendors. This model is actually a Mitsubishi. Some are TYM. A significant minority are actually Indian built tractors built by Mahindra themselves.
don't spew more BS. Mitsubishi never built a tractor for Mahindra, however Mahindra as bought some Mitsubishi motors for their tractors. That still doesn't make it a Mitsubishi built tractor.

So have I, I have had experience with kubota and put well over 2k hours in two of them and only minor fixable issues within an hour. Mahindra ive heard absolute HORROR stories on here about how bad the wiring is, the safety switches, ignition switch, dashboard, how bad the warranty is and how they won't stand behind their stuff. They try to get out from under their warranty so they dont have to pay for wiring it every 1-5 years. Mahindra overall sucks i wouldn't take one if you gave it to me
US assembled not built. Don't confuse people with words like mahindra did with the sticker as you pointed out. Assembly is different that manufactured in the US.
I would be curious to see how the LS XR3135 fits into these comparisons. I bought an XR3135C shuttle transmission tractor with backhoe for $29k. The tractor is 3589lbs without loader. The loader is rated at 2400lbs at the pins and the front axle is rated for 4klbs. At the HP size, and cost, it's right there with these models, but seems to offer some additional weight and loader capacity.
Better fact check Kubota's long term parts support. I have a 3650 and have 2 parts, the tube that protects the shaft that runs the front wheel drive & the left hand engine compartment cover), which I need that Kubota no longer services. Very disappointing from a supposedly top tier manufacturer. I was able to get the tube welded, but am still searching for the cover.
Hey Messick Farm Equipment, does the L3301 have the particulate filter? And what temperature does it reach during the regeneration period? And if you're in a field during regeneration, can it set the filed on fire? What about a barn or shed? And be sure to tell us about how much does one of those cost? Would you have one in stock? And if it went out in, let's say 40 hours, would it be covered by Kubota warranty? While you were quick to knock on the Mahindra loader, you didn't bother on the Kubota...was there a reason for that??? And you didn't bother to show the quick attach handles on the Kubota either.....I guess you think people are going to be so wrapped up in "sales" speech, they aren't going to notice your omissions.....but getting back to that particulate filter that Kubota has on their machines, and Mahindra does not, how many pages are dedicated to the particulate filter in the owner's manual? 8? 9? If it's either, then tell us why there's that many pages dedicated to that particulate filter? (Before you try and say "it's not that big of a deal?") Waiting...thx
All Kubota engines over 19KW (25Hp) have a DPF filter. temp during burn is the same as at wide open throttle. The barn or shed concern is why the machine has a button to delay or bypass regen. Honestly, I've never read the owners manual. On todays tractors there is literally nothing to do but turn the key and go to work (this was not true when this tech first came to market) Cost to clean a DPF is $300-400, but should not need done till 2000-3000 hours. When I do these videos I generally try not to do too much back and forth with another tractor. Reason being is that the "other" tractor is often cherry picked in these kind of videos. I try and point out broad practical thing that would compare to a majority of tractors.
I can get parts for a 35 year old Kubota. People often ask if it is for sale. If you have 5k less look for a lightly used unit. Lots of hobby farmer owners out there who sell 5 yr old machines for a serious discount with low hours. When you see rental companies using a Mahindra TLB then consider one.
A tractor has a lot of parts. Assembled means fit together to make a whole working product. Those parts are manufactured outside of usa and then imported to usa and assembled in usa to make a tractor.
Good info on what was compared. I guess I wanted more detail. Transmission, shifting, etc. Small farm so my main use would be mowing, raking, square baler, barn cleaning, some light tillage.
I like kubota, but hate the fact that they are going to shitty hydro transmissions instead of gear that is much more reliable. Mahindra at least offers the choice of a manual transmission that is more reliable when doing heavy work.
+Jacob Anderson these are available in gear drive. Really though, a modern hydro is more reliable than a gear drive. Less efficient, a bit more expensive, but absolutely more reliable.
Show me a 40# year old hydro with zero issues. I have three 1960s manual tractors, two still have the original clutch. Gear transmissions only break when used by idiots. Put the same idiot behind a hydro, and it won't last one season.
I’m narrowing down my tractor choice between the Mahindra Max36 and Kubota B3150. Both appeal as they are low profile, just over 2 meters tall and both have strong hydraulic flow. These are factors I’m considering as I need a tractor to operate in an orchard.
I just purchased an L3301 Kubota today after several weeks of looking at brands, dealers, Internet forums, UA-cam, etc. My local Kubota dealer and rep were outstanding. Initially, when I inquired about a NH on his lot, he told me that in their repair shop, they have mostly red, green and blue tractors and that he strongly urged me to focus on the Kubotas. Two days later I went back and asked to see their repair shop and sure enough, 5 NH's, 3 JD's and a red one (not sure, maybe MF, but perhaps a Mahindra??) and ONE Kubota that was having warranty work done on it due to an accidental error on the operators part. Instant credibility! Anyway, can't wait to get mine delivered and start playing!
@greg Abernathy Normally you don't (ever) have "warranty" work done because of an operator error. Warranty work is completed due to a manufacturers defect, plain and simple.
I love my Kubota and when it needs replacing I will replace it with a Kubota. The only issue I have is the parts I need are made in China. I don’t mind buying from Japan, not from China.
Lots of brand do this with lots of equipment, and in our experience its rarely good. Your paying another middle-man raising prices, and typically your parts support is far worse than the company who actually built the machine is not going to invest in quality long term support when their name is not on the hood. Its not their reputation that takes a hit. Mahindra's #1 position, is from essentially selling tractors geared towards 3rd world countries that do not meet the expectations of the American market. They would be #1 as far as unit sales go, but a far cry from even being a competitor for dollar volume. 'Crap' is kinda in the eye of the beholder. The Mitsubishi or TYM Mahindra machines are far less crap than the ones they actually build themselves. They have some jaw dropping bad equipment, as some stuff that's kinda sorta okay.
One more quick question. For a 40 Acre virtually flat farm, 35 acres under irrigation and mini pivot, currently just pasture, now hay production. Which tractor do you recommend for doing general farm work. Moving some boulders, digging fence post holes lots of MOWING. I do typically like to go a little larger than needed but would love your advice.
I have a kobota and also purchased a LS 4155. It is a beast and it looks exactly like the Boomer 55. I am a mechanic and it has same engine and everything. Only thing different is the loader.
Mahindra is a budget tractor but why does it have the bigger axel and steering links behind the axel rather than in front and steel rear whereas kubotas is aluminum and smaller from what I've seen unless that's all bull??
Messick's what model Mahindra would u consider the b7800 equivalent? Also ballpark cost on 2008 b7800 hst with 4609b backhoe on it? Curious if price points very much in your locale (approx 420 hours)
Appreciate your so called honest efforts on sharing and comparing these two tractors. But, what is the big fuss you are building around it? When one of your smartphone and laptop USA company makes all the parts in China and gets assembled there. You folks are proud to own it, use it and credit it to a great extent saying it is an American brand but cannot tolerate if it is an Indian brand?? Why such step-motherly treatment dude??
Kubota is definitely a great company since it comes from Japan. I have great respect for Japanese technology. Having said this Mahindra is a very well known brand in India.
I compared oranges and bought the Kubota. Materials were very cheap on the Kioti. The new Kiotis on the lot had steering wheels that were already cracked, weird. Sun visors hanging and slow hydraulics. They are fairly reliable though says my cousin that has one. I sincerely love my Kubota.
I compared them as well, I ended up with a kioti, I think the condition has to do with how long they sat out side dealer. The kubota I was looking at had cracked steering wheel and faded paint already, My kioti was ordered and came new right from the crate to me so no hang time. I compared the l2501 kubota to the ck2610 and the 2610 came in 4000 dollars cheaper and seemed to be a little heavier in the rear end and front axles. Not saying i dont like kubota, My dad just bought a mx5200, and I love that, it takes everything you through at it. It does hay operations well, and is very reliable. But for me, i just needed a tractor to do horse chores, work a garden, snow removal, so in the end i went with saving a bit of money. So far its been a great machine. Both Kubota and Kioti have a lot in common, they both make their own motors, cast own rear ends, and genuinely have more invested in the success of their specific brand. Heck Kioti even worked with kubota in the 80s on a line of tractors. Then kubota sued in 2003 or so , over design similarities (which i get) and get this, the orange color. Kind of a joke if you ask me. I didnt know color could be copyrighted. They have diverged more in looks since the lawsuit, and I think the new kiotis are quite sharp and quality is way better than they were even 3 years ago.
I bought the Kioti ck4010, mostly because the Kubota dealer didn't seem interested in my business. This is my first tractor. Needed help to understand the differences and the Kioti salesman was very helpful. The Kubota guy seemed to be talking down to me.
Well after that I would be totally sold on a Kubota tractor but already have one and I love it. After five years it has not given me a hint of an issue except the odd one I caused.
Thank you for clearing up some concerns I had. As a female looking for the right tractor for my equine/arena and mowing needs I have been steered in all directions. In continuing to do my research I keep going back to Kubota. Any tips for negotiating with my local dealer is welcome!
visit 2-3 local dealers, keep an open mind. Compare the info they give you and simply make it clear your going to check their price with others. No need to brow beat, a salesmen who knows he is up against inline competition will put his best foot forward.
Thanks for your very biased approach. Why would a tractor company give residential warranty when the tractors are used on a farm? I have checked with mahindra and there is no such thing like a residential warranty.
I'm not sure where you are getting your info.. but with tractors that's not the case. It IS the case for things like zero turn mowers where a home owner and commercial landscaper receive different warranties.
Sorry, you are referring to Mahindra. Yes.. he is correct when he says the Powertrain warranty has a slew of limitations on hours and application. I am sure they don't make that info easy to find.
I don't see a lot of videos or talk about the Kabota B2601. Is that an odd sized tractor? Are there a lot of implements that can be used with it? Such as brush hog, back hoe, snow blower, tiller and so on. The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking to purchase a Kabota B 2601 and don't want to get stuck with a white elephant. Thank you.
The B Series has an aluminum cast rear end, and can have mid-mount mower. The L series is cast iron rear end, and does not have mid-mount capability...it more like a farm tractor! The B series is more like an over-sized garden tractor and priced accordingly.
Mech Uno fyi. it's not aluminum. that's Deere, all Kubota stuff is cast iron. at this size.. your far from garden tractor. that comment us not too far off for a subcompact machine.
+Michael Murphy. Again, the b-series is cast iron. Also many (not all) l-series tractors have had mid mowers. You can also buy some standard L tractors for less money than a B series machine. You can't paint with too broad of a brush with these things.
Dear sir mahindra is not just a tractor manufacturer they build from scooters to helicopter and I am not exaggerating they do that. So not all components are manufactured by them they do outsourcing Just like GM.

Messick Farm Equipment Oh I cannot claim to be educated enough on the subject to speak on it intelligently but it is obvious that you have a bias which maybe for good reason. Overall, I believe the Kubota probably is the better tractor. They certainly have a good track record. I am about to buy a new tractor in the next couple of weeks and I am comparing four or five different brands in the 70 horsepower range including the Kubota m7040. What I am finding is that many of the competing brands have a similar specifications for the same size tractor, but they include many options that Kubota charges extra for. A lot extra. Like quick attach front end systems and rear remotes. If I Kioti dealer can add on a rear remote for $500, why does Kubota think there's is worth $1,200? He Mahindra dealer includes two. And a quick attach loader system at a lower price point. Even at that, I might still opt for the Kubota except that there financing is more difficult and they can't seem to get the payment down to where I want it.
Neil, nice job! Just can't beat Kubota quality hands down only machines I own. All ya have to do is compare build quality, you can see the difference. I have always recommended Kubota machines plus resale is the highest. Join the Orange club you won't be sorry.

This is an old video so not sure if I'll get a reply. Where do you even find operating capacities? I assume operating capacities are similar to a gvwr on a truck? The total amount of weight the frame/vehicle can hold?
No one publishes anything like this unfortunately. No specs on axle capacity's, frame capability, etc. There are lift spec''s, but those don't tell you the capability of the underlying tractor.
@@MessicksEquip In most of your video's talking about tractor capability wars, it reminds me a lot of the american big 3 truck makers in 2000-2012 before they adopted universal SAE standards and such. Seems like Kubota is a lot like Toyota in publishing achievable and reliable numbers/capability rather than sprinkling magic number dust on things and claiming off the wall numbers that aren't useable in the real world like the big 3 used to do.
I've not been to the factory that does these, but if its like other Kubota products the engine and transmissions are delivered in crates from Japan, and the rest of sheet metal, ROPS, axles, tires etc are done domestically. My guess would be the % of parts is somewhat less than the BX-ZD-ZG-RTV plant @ KMA.
We have a 2018 Mahindra Roxor , it's been a dependable and great machine, it's part of the farm now. This outcome did not translate into the Mahindra 1600 series tractor. Engine and transmission were great , little mule. It was the little things , controls and features , so cheap built , things just started falling appart at 50 hours. Then comes service. Mahindra parts and service just sucks. Back to Kubota we go.
If your going to make any attempt to check pricing, you need to include all the attachments and configurations. These things can swing the price thousands.
are you able to do a comparison between the John Deere 3R vs Kubota Grand L series? I'm trying to decide between these two tractors and I've only seen the one-sided comparison video made by John Deere.
John Perdue no one I would think but sometimes you buy the wrong size tractor, sometimes you sell your house and retire, sometimes you loose your job. I think they call if life.
If no one ever traded, moved, died, etc there would be no tractors on the used markert! Right now we have 27 used ones for various reasons. Typically its because of changing needs and circumstance as time goes on.
I looked at Deere, New Holland, Kioti, Mahindra, and Kubota for a while before I made my decision in my opinion Deere is now going off their name instead of quality and going above and beyond, I’ve been around John Deere tractors all of my life and at first I was a die hard Deere or nothing fan, until I started looking at other brands and comparing them together... People have told me kioti is a knock off of kubota which In a way yes but no kioti tractors have daedong engines (which frankly have never heard of in my life lol). The mahindra seemed better because of the reason of no dpf filter but I started doing more research and found out what was stated in this video... New Holland just felt and looked very cheaply made in my point of view. Kubota was the only tractor I felt was built the best and the most “user friendly” tractor all the way down to the loader hydraulic couplers are mostly in a area which is a easy access to disconnect if needed. My local dealers quoted the mahindra and kioti to be the cheapest price and Deere as the most expensive and kubota under Deere. I purchased a L2501 kubota absolutely love it I did months of research on brands of tractors of what to buy and in my opinion kubota has came a long way over the years I am thoroughly impressed!
Well said Neil. A lot of work gets done and a lot of people get fed in this world thanks to Chinese and Indian equipment. Thank God for that! But there are reasons why the first world tractor market is dominated by Green, Orange and Blue. Engineering, innovation, refinement, quality control, dealer network etc. Accidents of birth afford us the luxury of these fine machines. Keep them coming, and keep your fine videos coming!

I just purchased a Kubota L2501. My dealer was great. Spent a lot of time with me answering questions and helping me to set up my new tractor to best fit my needs. I was also dealing on a new Mahindra as well but in the end , the Kubota won out. It was simply the best choice for me.
I do not agree with the comments that the Mahindra tractors are junk. I have friends that have them and are very satisfied with them. We also have a really good dealer in the area. He too, spent a lot of time answering my questions. In the end, these Messick videos played a big part in my decision. I am in the Kubota family and you are stuck with me now Neil.
Mahindra is an India based company. They made tractors for International Harvester and made Willys Jeeps back in the day. The machines themselves perform well, service and parts are the downside since they are so new to the USA. Also, all tractors are foreign tractors these days. Mahindra has an assembly plant in Pennsylvania.
All tractors are not foreign, many are but the Kubota in the video, as well as 40% of their products are legitimately made here. The Mahindra "assembly plant" you are referring to in Pennsylvania is actually an old Walmart that closed up. An ex Kubota dealer runs the facility, its not owned by Mahindra. They mounts loaders, backhoes and puts tires on machines that come in from overseas and deliver them to dealers assembled. Since Mahindra's dealer network is typically not at the same level as other companies this removes the assembly responsibility from the dealer level. Not all the tractors are junk, the ones Mahindra builds themselves are near junk, but the Mitsubishi and TYM built machines are okay.
Messick Farm Equipment Thanks for the info. My father and I did a laborious job with comparisons when we purchased our tractor. We have a small grain, hay and cattle operation. We compared the Mahindra 8560 with I think a Kubota 8200. Both were comparable, but the Mahindra weighed 8,000 pounds compared to the Kubota at 6,000. You are correct, that doesn’t matter for most applications, but it does when your pulling a chisel plow, which we still do for planting sunflowers and sweet corn. The Mahindra was around $40,000, which was too good for the amount of beef we were getting compared to Kubota. Don’t get me wrong, Kubota makes GREAT equipment. For our operation, the Mahindra checked many boxes and 5 years later, we’ve had no issues. Like I said, service and parts are the only issue due to lack of dealers close to us, but I can order most things online and have them here in 3-5 days, which is sufficient for our operation. I have 2 Kubota zero-turn mowers that are wonderful. Kubota was relatively new to Southern Maryland a few years back and resembled Mahindra in terms of pricing (not factoring inflation, of course). As with any brand, as the following got stronger, the product (and price) rose. Like you said, matching a product to your needs is important.

@Deklyn Denison Mahindra (I think they had a different name then) had/has a license from Willys to build Jeeps for sale in India. I'm working from memory on this one, but I think I remember a 2-cylinder diesel in it from the early 80s. Like 15 horsepower or something, maybe 25. Fast forward to now and they're making a sort of jeep-looking thing that's legally an off-road-only vehicle that can't be registered for road use is the US. I don't know much else about them.

That is true, but the same Jeep was made by multiple manufacturer's for the war department. Mahindra was one of the many manufacturer's that had the contract.
As a Mahindra fan and former Mahindra owner, I thought this was a decent comparison. I have sat on all colors and I do feel Mahindra has their place in the market. Here, they are indeed a little cheaper than most comparable models. We also have a very competitive Kubota dealer in the area and Mahindra hand no problems coming in under them - done so with out even waving Kubota prices in their face. I did step out of a Mahindra but not because of quality or anything else. I needed a larger machine and when shopping, the best bang for the buck became a blue one. Those darn NH Workmasters are just hard to beat for the money!

Just FYI - I purchased a Mahindra 1538 (not the 1533 in the video) with loader and had the tires loaded with rim guard and delivery for 19,350.00. The kubota L3301 I checked out was quoted at 25,000.00. EASY DECISION My Mahindra has been great and way cheaper than a Kubota. I would have bought a Kubota if the price had been competitive but you get very little for the 6 thousand dollar difference. The 28K MSRP for the Mahindra mentioned in the video is laughable and not at all realistic.
+Casey Hoell dealer pricing can add huge swings and variation to the price. This is why we try to compare MSRP. The list price for these tractors is very close to one another. It's possible you got a very high price from a Kubota dealer at very low price for Mahindra. Very possibly could have been the right choice for you but likely will not ring true for others.
Perhaps you're correct and I won't disparage Kubota because I think they make fine tractors. I would also own John Deere, Yanmar, LS, New Holland, Kioti, Case and maybe some others (yes I know half of them are made by someone else). I do think the Kubota dealers in my neck of the woods are awfully proud (not as bad as John Deere though) and that's why they lost my business. You made the smart and correct decision....The 1533 and 1538 have a 50 hp block and DOES NOT REQUIRE THE DPF (particulate filter) or the DEF (blue fluid) that can be found on the Kubota.
FYI - No tractors from anyone under 75 Hp have DEF.

CRD actually stands for common rail diesel which means that the injectors share a fuel rail and are controlled electronically as opposed to having a mechanical pump driving the injection pulses.
Most of his arguments are groundless. Why? Amount of Titanium used in allow can provide much more tensile strength than 5" thick axel. It would have been better if axels were taken apart and used hydraulics stress test to see the exact tensile strength.

I've used an old New Holland (1997) and a new New Holland (2018) skid steer. The old one beats you up in no time. It's shaking, it's screaming, but it does work hard. The new one is quiet and smooth, and works just as hard.
That means a lot on operators health
If I wanted an "unbiased" comparison between Kubota and any other brand, I would go to a Kubota dealer. R-i-g-h-t.....
In over a year of this being up, not one person has pointed out something factually incorrect, dishonest, etc. That's more than you can say about just about any other tractor video.

when you are comparing a nice machine and a pos its easy to be biased haha. Mahindra is not as good of a machine as Kubota you will find no one with actual decent clear points as to why the Mahindra is better. you may see someone say something about the cup holders. if Mahindra reflected it in the price and their tractors were 15% cheaper on retail then I think a lot of points could be over looked but the fact that they are priced extremely close to the Kubota its hard to overlook the short fallings.

They are very different devices, that do very different things with the exhaust. The representation you gave on the Tier 4 could use some corrections, as the Mahindra has a huge advantage in the after treatment category.

I just looked up the info on where the Mahindra was manufactured. Everything about it states it is made in India. Nowhere is there anything that says mitsubishi. So where did you get that info from.

It has a Mitsubishi engine. They are assembled either in Pennsylvania or out west somewhere. Texas I think. None are sold in the U.S. that are already assembled. Kubota does however import all of their tractors. None get assembled in the U.S. Unless something changed recently.
So I actually know a little about this. I know the person who runs the facility in Pennsylvania. It's an old Walmart, they pretty much add tires and install implements. Nothing is really manufactured there, it's the same work dealers of other brands do themselves.
I've also been to the Kubota facility in Georgia twice.. KMA. 40% of Kubota product is legitimately manufactured here. Kma employees 2400 people, and there are three more other Kubota manufacturing facilities in the area.

The Kubota in this case is made @ KMA in Georgia. This was a Japanese model at one point, they moved production here. The KMW loader is also 'Made in the USA'.
Messick's if a product says “made in USA”, it has to have a minimum amount of US materials in it in addition to being assembled here. “Assembled in USA” can be made of all foreign parts. The Mahindra tractors are made in India or Korea, kubotas are made in japan. You want a US made tractor, get a Deere.
The more popular Mahindra tractors are built by Mitsubishi in Japan, the Korean ones are built by TYM. The Deere compacts are made by Yanmar in Japan. You'll find Yanmar equivalents of their models if you look.
You'll find 'Made in the USA' marks on many of the Kubota products. I've been to the factory twice. As odd as this is, with this tractor the Kubota is a more American product than the Deere. Fundamentally its a global marketplace and these conversations are a bit silly, but the realities are often far different than most people expect.
With dealers like this guy you wonder why they even sell the Mahindra. He clearly said it was a Mitsubishi.

the purpose of the water bottle test in my opinion is not to show that the engine is good or bad. its to show how smooth the engine operates when you are sitting on a machine all day long and operating it that vibration can be extremely annoying and uncomfortable.

I was really surprised to find out that Kubota tractors actually aren't much more expensive than Mahindra tractors. For what you're getting I expected the price difference to be night and day, but they're pretty comprable.
I have owned both Kubota and JD tractors under 40 hp and lawn equipment over the years and the only real gripe about Kubota is the foot pedal when backing up doing alot of loader work. That said, I know when either is 10+ years old I have and been able to find any part I need,not so sure about the Mahindra.

Mahindra is an Indian company, but most of their tractors are built by other vendors. This model is actually a Mitsubishi. Some are TYM. A significant minority are actually Indian built tractors built by Mahindra themselves.

I have noticed a lot of Mahindra with low hour, below 40, on their competitors lots.
So have I, I have had experience with kubota and put well over 2k hours in two of them and only minor fixable issues within an hour. Mahindra ive heard absolute HORROR stories on here about how bad the wiring is, the safety switches, ignition switch, dashboard, how bad the warranty is and how they won't stand behind their stuff. They try to get out from under their warranty so they dont have to pay for wiring it every 1-5 years. Mahindra overall sucks i wouldn't take one if you gave it to me
US assembled not built. Don't confuse people with words like mahindra did with the sticker as you pointed out. Assembly is different that manufactured in the US.

I would be curious to see how the LS XR3135 fits into these comparisons. I bought an XR3135C shuttle transmission tractor with backhoe for $29k. The tractor is 3589lbs without loader. The loader is rated at 2400lbs at the pins and the front axle is rated for 4klbs. At the HP size, and cost, it's right there with these models, but seems to offer some additional weight and loader capacity.

I have a 3650 and have 2 parts, the tube that protects the shaft that runs the front wheel drive & the left hand engine compartment cover), which I need that Kubota no longer services. Very disappointing from a supposedly top tier manufacturer. I was able to get the tube welded, but am still searching for the cover.

Hey Messick Farm Equipment, does the L3301 have the particulate filter? And what temperature does it reach during the regeneration period? And if you're in a field during regeneration, can it set the filed on fire? What about a barn or shed? And be sure to tell us about how much does one of those cost? Would you have one in stock? And if it went out in, let's say 40 hours, would it be covered by Kubota warranty? While you were quick to knock on the Mahindra loader, you didn't bother on the Kubota...was there a reason for that??? And you didn't bother to show the quick attach handles on the Kubota either.....I guess you think people are going to be so wrapped up in "sales" speech, they aren't going to notice your omissions.....but getting back to that particulate filter that Kubota has on their machines, and Mahindra does not, how many pages are dedicated to the particulate filter in the owner's manual? 8? 9? If it's either, then tell us why there's that many pages dedicated to that particulate filter? (Before you try and say "it's not that big of a deal?") Waiting...thx
All Kubota engines over 19KW (25Hp) have a DPF filter. temp during burn is the same as at wide open throttle. The barn or shed concern is why the machine has a button to delay or bypass regen. Honestly, I've never read the owners manual. On todays tractors there is literally nothing to do but turn the key and go to work (this was not true when this tech first came to market) Cost to clean a DPF is $300-400, but should not need done till 2000-3000 hours.
When I do these videos I generally try not to do too much back and forth with another tractor. Reason being is that the "other" tractor is often cherry picked in these kind of videos. I try and point out broad practical thing that would compare to a majority of tractors.

Assemble in the USA means what exactly?
A tractor has a lot of parts. Assembled means fit together to make a whole working product. Those parts are manufactured outside of usa and then imported to usa and assembled in usa to make a tractor.
Giving Americans jobs they don't deserve that can be assembled cheaper and better else where.

Small farm so my main use would be mowing, raking, square baler, barn cleaning, some light tillage.
I like kubota, but hate the fact that they are going to shitty hydro transmissions instead of gear that is much more reliable. Mahindra at least offers the choice of a manual transmission that is more reliable when doing heavy work.

I’m narrowing down my tractor choice between the Mahindra Max36 and Kubota B3150. Both appeal as they are low profile, just over 2 meters tall and both have strong hydraulic flow. These are factors I’m considering as I need a tractor to operate in an orchard.
I do like my Kubota! I don't use it all the time but when I need it it's a life savor!
I just purchased an L3301 Kubota today after several weeks of looking at brands, dealers, Internet forums, UA-cam, etc. My local Kubota dealer and rep were outstanding. Initially, when I inquired about a NH on his lot, he told me that in their repair shop, they have mostly red, green and blue tractors and that he strongly urged me to focus on the Kubotas. Two days later I went back and asked to see their repair shop and sure enough, 5 NH's, 3 JD's and a red one (not sure, maybe MF, but perhaps a Mahindra??) and ONE Kubota that was having warranty work done on it due to an accidental error on the operators part. Instant credibility! Anyway, can't wait to get mine delivered and start playing!

@greg Abernathy Normally you don't (ever) have "warranty" work done because of an operator error. Warranty work is completed due to a manufacturers defect, plain and simple.
How about comparing the kioti to kubota? I would like to see that please.
Can you do side by side maintenance? Belt changing, radiator hose replacement, etc and just normal PM service.
EGR for Nox emessions. It lower the combustion temperature which creates less Nox.
I love my Kubota and when it needs replacing I will replace it with a Kubota. The only issue I have is the parts I need are made in China. I don’t mind buying from Japan, not from China.

Your paying another middle-man raising prices, and typically your parts support is far worse than the company who actually built the machine is not going to invest in quality long term support when their name is not on the hood. Its not their reputation that takes a hit.
Mahindra's #1 position, is from essentially selling tractors geared towards 3rd world countries that do not meet the expectations of the American market. They would be #1 as far as unit sales go, but a far cry from even being a competitor for dollar volume. 'Crap' is kinda in the eye of the beholder. The Mitsubishi or TYM Mahindra machines are far less crap than the ones they actually build themselves. They have some jaw dropping bad equipment, as some stuff that's kinda sorta okay.
One more quick question. For a 40 Acre virtually flat farm, 35 acres under irrigation and mini pivot, currently just pasture, now hay production. Which tractor do you recommend for doing general farm work. Moving some boulders, digging fence post holes lots of MOWING. I do typically like to go a little larger than needed but would love your advice.

I have a kobota and also purchased a LS 4155. It is a beast and it looks exactly like the Boomer 55. I am a mechanic and it has same engine and everything. Only thing different is the loader.

Mahindra is a budget tractor but why does it have the bigger axel and steering links behind the axel rather than in front and steel rear whereas kubotas is aluminum and smaller from what I've seen unless that's all bull??

When one of your smartphone and laptop USA company makes all the parts in China and gets assembled there. You folks are proud to own it, use it and credit it to a great extent saying it is an American brand but cannot tolerate if it is an Indian brand?? Why such step-motherly treatment dude??

Kubota is definitely a great company since it comes from Japan. I have great respect for Japanese technology. Having said this Mahindra is a very well known brand in India.

Unfortunately its very uncommon for us to get our hands on current model tractors like this.
I compared oranges and bought the Kubota. Materials were very cheap on the Kioti. The new Kiotis on the lot had steering wheels that were already cracked, weird. Sun visors hanging and slow hydraulics. They are fairly reliable though says my cousin that has one. I sincerely love my Kubota.
I compared them as well, I ended up with a kioti, I think the condition has to do with how long they sat out side dealer. The kubota I was looking at had cracked steering wheel and faded paint already, My kioti was ordered and came new right from the crate to me so no hang time. I compared the l2501 kubota to the ck2610 and the 2610 came in 4000 dollars cheaper and seemed to be a little heavier in the rear end and front axles. Not saying i dont like kubota, My dad just bought a mx5200, and I love that, it takes everything you through at it. It does hay operations well, and is very reliable. But for me, i just needed a tractor to do horse chores, work a garden, snow removal, so in the end i went with saving a bit of money. So far its been a great machine. Both Kubota and Kioti have a lot in common, they both make their own motors, cast own rear ends, and genuinely have more invested in the success of their specific brand. Heck Kioti even worked with kubota in the 80s on a line of tractors. Then kubota sued in 2003 or so , over design similarities (which i get) and get this, the orange color. Kind of a joke if you ask me. I didnt know color could be copyrighted. They have diverged more in looks since the lawsuit, and I think the new kiotis are quite sharp and quality is way better than they were even 3 years ago.
I bought the Kioti ck4010, mostly because the Kubota dealer didn't seem interested in my business. This is my first tractor. Needed help to understand the differences and the Kioti salesman was very helpful. The Kubota guy seemed to be talking down to me.

Well after that I would be totally sold on a Kubota tractor but already have one and I love it. After five years it has not given me a hint of an issue except the odd one I caused.

visit 2-3 local dealers, keep an open mind. Compare the info they give you and simply make it clear your going to check their price with others. No need to brow beat, a salesmen who knows he is up against inline competition will put his best foot forward.
Thanks for your very biased approach. Why would a tractor company give residential warranty when the tractors are used on a farm? I have checked with mahindra and there is no such thing like a residential warranty.
I'm not sure where you are getting your info.. but with tractors that's not the case.
It IS the case for things like zero turn mowers where a home owner and commercial landscaper receive different warranties.

I don't see a lot of videos or talk about the Kabota B2601. Is that an odd sized tractor? Are there a lot of implements that can be used with it? Such as brush hog, back hoe, snow blower, tiller and so on.
The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking to purchase a Kabota B 2601 and don't want to get stuck with a white elephant. Thank you.
B2601 is a very common tractor. Smaller than the two in this video. Check our other videos for B-series machines.

The B Series has an aluminum cast rear end, and can have mid-mount mower. The L series is cast iron rear end, and does not have mid-mount capability...it more like a farm tractor! The B series is more like an over-sized garden tractor and priced accordingly.
Mech Uno fyi. it's not aluminum. that's Deere, all Kubota stuff is cast iron. at this size.. your far from garden tractor. that comment us not too far off for a subcompact machine.
+Michael Murphy. Again, the b-series is cast iron. Also many (not all) l-series tractors have had mid mowers. You can also buy some standard L tractors for less money than a B series machine. You can't paint with too broad of a brush with these things.

Dear sir mahindra is not just a tractor manufacturer they build from scooters to helicopter and I am not exaggerating they do that. So not all components are manufactured by them they do outsourcing

Messick Farm Equipment Oh I cannot claim to be educated enough on the subject to speak on it intelligently but it is obvious that you have a bias which maybe for good reason. Overall, I believe the Kubota probably is the better tractor. They certainly have a good track record. I am about to buy a new tractor in the next couple of weeks and I am comparing four or five different brands in the 70 horsepower range including the Kubota m7040. What I am finding is that many of the competing brands have a similar specifications for the same size tractor, but they include many options that Kubota charges extra for. A lot extra. Like quick attach front end systems and rear remotes. If I Kioti dealer can add on a rear remote for $500, why does Kubota think there's is worth $1,200? He Mahindra dealer includes two. And a quick attach loader system at a lower price point. Even at that, I might still opt for the Kubota except that there financing is more difficult and they can't seem to get the payment down to where I want it.
Neil, nice job! Just can't beat Kubota quality hands down only machines I own. All ya have to do is compare build quality, you can see the difference. I have always recommended Kubota machines plus resale is the highest. Join the Orange club you won't be sorry.

This is an old video so not sure if I'll get a reply. Where do you even find operating capacities? I assume operating capacities are similar to a gvwr on a truck? The total amount of weight the frame/vehicle can hold?
No one publishes anything like this unfortunately. No specs on axle capacity's, frame capability, etc. There are lift spec''s, but those don't tell you the capability of the underlying tractor.
@@MessicksEquip In most of your video's talking about tractor capability wars, it reminds me a lot of the american big 3 truck makers in 2000-2012 before they adopted universal SAE standards and such. Seems like Kubota is a lot like Toyota in publishing achievable and reliable numbers/capability rather than sprinkling magic number dust on things and claiming off the wall numbers that aren't useable in the real world like the big 3 used to do.
So what is the L3301 made? it's assembled enough to be called such but how much assembly is done in the US vs the other country?
I've not been to the factory that does these, but if its like other Kubota products the engine and transmissions are delivered in crates from Japan, and the rest of sheet metal, ROPS, axles, tires etc are done domestically. My guess would be the % of parts is somewhat less than the BX-ZD-ZG-RTV plant @ KMA.

We have a 2018 Mahindra Roxor , it's been a dependable and great machine, it's part of the farm now. This outcome did not translate into the Mahindra 1600 series tractor. Engine and transmission were great , little mule. It was the little things , controls and features , so cheap built , things just started falling appart at 50 hours. Then comes service. Mahindra parts and service just sucks. Back to Kubota we go.
How much are Kubota 3301s going for in everybody's areas right now. My dealer in western Washington is trying to charge close to 26k?
If your going to make any attempt to check pricing, you need to include all the attachments and configurations. These things can swing the price thousands.

John Perdue no one I would think but sometimes you buy the wrong size tractor, sometimes you sell your house and retire, sometimes you loose your job. I think they call if life.
If no one ever traded, moved, died, etc there would be no tractors on the used markert! Right now we have 27 used ones for various reasons. Typically its because of changing needs and circumstance as time goes on.

I looked at Deere, New Holland, Kioti, Mahindra, and Kubota for a while before I made my decision in my opinion Deere is now going off their name instead of quality and going above and beyond, I’ve been around John Deere tractors all of my life and at first I was a die hard Deere or nothing fan, until I started looking at other brands and comparing them together... People have told me kioti is a knock off of kubota which In a way yes but no kioti tractors have daedong engines (which frankly have never heard of in my life lol). The mahindra seemed better because of the reason of no dpf filter but I started doing more research and found out what was stated in this video... New Holland just felt and looked very cheaply made in my point of view. Kubota was the only tractor I felt was built the best and the most “user friendly” tractor all the way down to the loader hydraulic couplers are mostly in a area which is a easy access to disconnect if needed. My local dealers quoted the mahindra and kioti to be the cheapest price and Deere as the most expensive and kubota under Deere. I purchased a L2501 kubota absolutely love it I did months of research on brands of tractors of what to buy and in my opinion kubota has came a long way over the years I am thoroughly impressed!

Well said Neil. A lot of work gets done and a lot of people get fed in this world thanks to Chinese and Indian equipment. Thank God for that! But there are reasons why the first world tractor market is dominated by Green, Orange and Blue. Engineering, innovation, refinement, quality control, dealer network etc. Accidents of birth afford us the luxury of these fine machines. Keep them coming, and keep your fine videos coming!
