Hey guys, here is step by step on how to replace your water pump on BMW's latest 4 cylinder B48 engine. It is pretty straight forward process but if you have any questions ask below.
Thank you for watching
Just wanted to say thank you, followed step by step and was able to save almost 2k by doing it my self. It was a long process but worth it at the end :)
Happy to help👍
Great video as My 2019 430i water pump is leaking through the weep hole. Your step by step instructions are great and especially the o ring from the water pump being taken out that is still in the engine. REALLY appreciate your professional approach and cautions you give. Buying the pump brand name does save a lot of money.
THANK YOU SIR!
Happy to help🙌
Was yours smoking out of exhaust ??
@@DriveDynamicsAz No, mine leaked on the engine down onto the cover for the electric steering motor. The blue coolant I spotted when I was cleaning the engine bay, not much that it dripped onto the garage, but stayed on the plastic shield below.
Thank you, I had to replace my water pump for my 2018 430i after I was informed by the dealership that there is a leak. After going through your video, I was able to safely remove the old (including the o-ring) and insert the new water pump. The plastic housing inside the waterpump insert was broken. This DIY replacement saved me $1,000 from what I was offered by the dealer to replace it.
Happy to help👍
How much was the part?
@@Ayushverma-xf5oe $122 via BMW Parts Hub, with shipping and tax, total was $140
man now im in your shoes and really dont have the confidence to tackle this job, was it hard? are you a mechanical person in any way? im really not at all but try to be sometimes and it usually just ends up going bad
@@Ayushverma-xf5oeim getting $146.99 on fcp euro
Love the video...very well done! My question is... would you suggest replacing anything else while in there as preventative....such as Belt, thermostat (unit) etc.... ??
Thank you, I’d say it is all condition based and for every car recommendation would be different, replacing thermo regulating unit doesn’t require touching water pump at all. Assess condition of mentioned items prior the repair and go from there😉
love your method of teaching
Thank you
You are a legend, sir. Thank you very much for the video!
Happy to help 🙌
This was the perfect “How to” video!
Great job in explaining the whole process! So if the heater is working as it should and no overheating, that's usually an indication that there are no more air in the system correct?
Pretty much yes
love the tutorial, is there any risk to not doing a vaccum fill as per in the ISTA procedure? It's the only thing holding me back from doing any DIY related to coolant tubes.
All you need to do is shown in the video, nothing else is necessary
Dumb question but why is it necessary to remove the bleed screw if the cap is open? Won't the air escape out of the main cap hole?
No, that is basic physics🤷♂️
Brilliant
Great video! question do you need to replace the thermostat as well, I have a small leak in my water pump, thinking of replacing the water pump only or should I also replace the thermostat as well?
It’s not thermostat anymore, thermo regulating unit and in my experience they last much longer than water pump so just water pump will be fine
@@Zeiten Sounds great! Thank you very much for the respond
would this be the same way for a 2021 330e?
I know the water pump is attached to a larger bracket. Sometimes the gasket between the bracket and the engine will fail causing leaks. Replacing the bracket is much more involved, requiring removal of the alternator and AC compressor. How often in your experience dies bracket fail vs just the water pump?
My question exactly
Is this the same process as the g30 530i
Yeah same engine
awesome !!! you made it look so easy ... thanks for sharing
What is the brand name of the water pump please, great video.
Off topic question. Who makes the best ignition coils for the N52 engine ?
I like bosch the most
I have 2013 x5 3.5 i I install new battery after a month now. I'm getting battery drain sing..But not all the time .before I go to bmw dealer to get checked any Suggestion
Get it diagnosed that’s the best suggestion, intelligent battery sensor might be failing but it’s just a guess so get it diagnosed properly and don’t replace everything you find online
Did you programme the battery to the car?
Show them how to do the oil cooler. Just finished it up it was horrible
Soon, if you mean oil filter housing replacement it’s not too bad, not as simple as on n-series engines but still reasonable
@ most of it wasn’t bad but that bottom bolt. Definitely want to have a swivel 8mm socket. If not it’s a nightmare
@Mechanicmonty there is a way to get the bottom bolt out simpler, hopefully i’ll have a chance to shoot this repair soon I’ll explain everything there😉
@ definitely help the ppl out because there’s not much on it out. Be doing the community a big one
Thanks for sharing. Really good..
Happy to help🙌
what’s the brand of the water pump
saleri oem
Is this the same for a 2006 330i? I was quoted 1400 to fix my water pump. If this the same, I can probably do it.
No, completely different. This video is for DIY BMW E90 Water Pump Thermostat replacement 325i, 330i, 328i, 335i

You are welcome👍
I know you made a video on a Intake manafold replacement on a n54 2005 X5 but i cant find it ??? please help me im stuck taking it off ...
It’s m54, and the video is for ccv replacement here it is

Did you have to mess with the thermostat?
No need for this job
Happen to have a link to the pump?
Do you have to do without removing any thermostat hoses
Just those that I showed
Hi I have off topic question what is the proper change interval for serpentine belt in B48 engine? How many years/km?
I’d say condition based, just inspect it once in a while usually belts can easily last for 80-100k miles so if you want to do preventative maintenance just stick to those intervals but if you change the belt change the tensioner as well every time
@@Zeiten Thank you very much.I have BMW 3GT 320i with B48 engine. It is 2018 Year but very low mileage about 29tkm.I have checked the belt looks good and also tensioner w/o any noises
Depending on your location you probably have lots of time before you can start worrying about those things. Just open the hood once in a while a take a look
@@Zeiten Thank you and have a nice day
I thought you had to do the self bleed where you go - engine off, full hot,low fan and push accelerator to floor for like 10-15 seconds and you hear the electric pump running. It runs cycle and cuts off.
That was my understanding as well, plus isn't there an electric wp? How do you activate that for bleeding like in previous years. I just did a turbo coolant line on our 2019 x3 (same motor) and I can not get the electric wp to activate but I've done all the manual steps I can find. Really no clear procedure besides using a vacuum filler which I don't have.
Link for the water pump anyone please
Great instruction.
Why would you not put a new belt on while doing that job?
Wasn’t necessary, all pulleys are in good condition as well as the belt sill probably will last another 30-50k miles i don’t upsell
Please improve your lighting. It seems so dark. - great content though.
Thank you, i’ll pass it on to camera man
Great video thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot for the video... I'm about to do the same job in my B48, but I have some questions...
In order to change all the coolant fluid, should I use a vacuum valve (venturi valve) or can I just start the pump and let the engine do the job?
If I use the vacuum valve... is there anything else that I must consider? I mean, probably something related with the thermoregulating unit o any other pump or, probably, other part.
Thank you for the answers!
Do u have the link ?
I really like this guy the fact is he need some touch
I have the exact same car… color, wheels, sunroof, engine, interior and the cooling system has been a nightmare. I had a hose replaced that connects to the reservoir, just changed the water pump, now the car is leaking coolant again somewhere deep behind or under the engine.
I would bet it is a coolant flange under intake manifold
Could be the oil filter housing , it’s a nightmare
@ciabatta7538 could be, although it seems coolant flange is failing more often and sooner, i’ll make a video on both of those repairs hopefully in the near future
@@Zeiten yea im in the process of changing mine . That flange is so sensitive , if you sneeze on it , it breaks.
@@Zeitenit ended up being the engine inlet cooling flange 😂 just ordered one from fcp euro.
Your other reservoir is for the turbos and totally different system
should have done the alternator bracket with the water pump. it will start leaking and you'll be doing this job all over again
Sorry i just wanted to know what you the estimate be to get it fixed by mechanic reasonable costs excluding the part
Dealer charging me roughly $1800
2 nd part How to installed everything back .😁
Anybody else stripped that bolt with that weird spacer thing on it from the water pump?
My friend you are a angel sending by God to me ,God bless you on Yeshua Hamashia Amen.
