I'm just amazed on your depth of knowledge of this motor. Never would've thought this powerplant was viable for major high output numbers but you demonstrated it can be a B58 alternative with no downsides.
well the downside is that it’ll cost more just to make the same power as a b58. and less overall potential. doesn’t sound as good. less reliable. but at least the days of the garbage n20 motors are gone, these new b48s are pretty stout
Yeah it can be an B58 alternative depending on your power goals. If you picked up a 2019 for under 25K and put 8K into it you're at 32K and making close to 500 WHP. You could pick up a 2020 M340i for closer to 40K and put 3K into it and make similar power but you'd have your power falling off near redline. Given the 330i is lighter and will hold power to redline with the upgraded turbo I could see a situation where the M340i can't compete on a stock turbo. Main thing for me is the balance of the 330i, handles great. If you were looking to spend 10K+ and go as fast as possible for under 50K total then it wouldn't be a B58 alternative but I'd imagine that 90% of people would be happy with a car that runs low 11s and maybe even high 10s with a good tire.

Ok, dumb question. I have heard talk of chilling the water-cooler with the AC cold side line. The reason for my question is i live in a super hot state, keeping my IATs cool and engine cool as well is top priority. I also am not trying to over tax any system when adding power. Is this possible and is it worth the effort?
B48 Whp goal post has been moved a few more yards. New record is 650whp 525tq on a revised conservative tune on a built engine ( Trinidad and Tobago F30 330e ).I think the guys in the Middle East (white car) can make 780whp safely. They have way more mods done to their build like a totally built out B58. I believe the balance shafts may become a problem unlocking more power beyond 800whp safely. Lets say the balance shafts are a non issue, is anyone looking at the potential of reving this engine even higher to 9000rpm on a bigger turbo 68mm with a properly ported head and hardware ?
The manifold upgrade should definitely take priority over the turbo upgrade just because of how it not only makes the car faster but also help preserve engine longevity. The turbo upgrade alone will easily heat soak the engine and shorten the lifespan. Turbo upgrade alone is good for a daily but you can’t do any serious track work. I’m definitely going for the manifold first as soon as I’m out of warranty.
@@deutsch323yep, cooler intake temps = more power. And it will be a consistent boost in power. If you heat soak an engine it will pull timing and lower your power to protect the engine. This modification should definitely take priority before the turbo upgrade.
Well, bigger turbos running less boost pressure to achieve the same flow of mass of air will actually help to keep the engine run cooler too. Either way, you need to upgrade both to keep the engine as cool and the least stressed as possible. With the stock turbo and upgraded intake+intercooler, you’ll still be running high PSI and overworking the turbo to get the maximum power, and likewise with the stock intake+intercooler (but upgraded turbo), there would still be a build of pressure and heat in the intake once you start to push it. Personally, i think if you’re not in a rush for big power, the intake+intercooler is the best first step because it means you can happily choose a turbo later knowing that it’s not going to have any restrictions on the intake side of things. However, if you’re just trying to get to 400whp+ as quickly as possible, a bigger turbo will be able to do the trick relatively easily without actually increasing the stress on the engine that much because it flows much easier/better and causes less back-pressure on the exhaust/hot side of things.

I never would of thought the stock pistons and connecting rods in the B48 would be able to sustain 400+ wheel horsepower. I remember a few facebook marketplace warnings of some shop in Texas saying a few people cracked their piston heads from running JB4 map 3 on their imported 420i, but I have read the B48 in the 20i variants use weaker construction overall since that car runs 11:1 compression and is only ever intended to make 184Hp.
Yeah I went off the fact that the rod and piston in this engine is interchangeable with a 2021 3.0 Supra. Plenty of examples Supras holding up in the high 700 whp range so just did the math. The high pressure fuel system plays a big part, the older 20i B48 in the F series did face issues due to the higher comp ratio and lower fuel pressure.
@@VehicularDIYGood to know, forgot the MK5 supra uses the B48/B58. I to have a G22 430i. Im pretty interested in getting that intake manifold you have listed, as the boost of HP is significant. PLEASE POST MORE VIDEOSSSSSSSSSS! UPDATE ON 330I PLEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
UPDATE HAS ARRIVEDDDDDDD!!!!! 😆😆😆
What's the line at 12:39 that is unable to connect to the intake manifold? Why would it throw a CEL?
There are so many tubes and stuff in this engine compared to older models that it becoming problematic due to any of this failing is increased exponentially!!!
A lot going on for sure but most if it is just PCV related, the reliability ratings on these newer BMWs are starting to be come quite high.
I was waiting for this video!
i have a F30 330i. B46B20 engine in it (SULEV, Canadian car) im assuming the engine code of yours is B48B20. if correct, does the B46 hold the same capability of the B48? if not, where is it different, and what needs done?
Wish i had the knowledge this guy has, does everything with such ease. I would love to do this stuff on my car but i dont know how to, nor do i trust myself lol. 😂
This videos are great, I really like watching how the series 3 is getting faster and reliability. Is the perfect bmw sleeper
I'm glad you may give me a solution for my wife 330i xdrive 2017. She hates the lack of power and anoint noise from the engine. She call it the German camry. The car has 65,000 miles. Where I can get this intake and how much? Thanks 👍 😊 🫂 🙏
Heat exchanger vid???
can confidently say your videos are going to greatly help me push my g20 330i to its full potential, glad to be a part of the community 🦾
Shit there be times when i forget shit and i come to this channel for a quick reminder bro been putting out bangers since forever got a sub here for life
Lovely video again 👌👍🏼💪🏼
Awesome! Would be really interesting to see how the car pulls at all speeds and all gears both before and after each upgrade if you happen to have it. 🎉
Interested to see the gains. Would have liked to see if you had any gains with the stock mani and aftermarket heat exchanger
Wondering can you do this to a 530
Is there mechanical difference between this G20 B48 and the G30 B48?
Hi can you put turbo in 2020 corolla 2.0 rally wana see how this thing will do. No one did yet
Any update on the wheel hp on 91 octane?
Can this fit on the mini b48!
Thank you very well explained. Will this work on my 2015 and 20 four-cylinder X.3 BMW thank you.
It's time to get a new BMW
Hmm. For a f36 430i on (E5) 93 octane, maybe this intake and the upgraded HPFP would be good enough for close to 350whp on the stock turbo…
Really interested to see where u go with this build
When's the next video coming bud?
my n26 2016 only doss 11mpg in city would you know how to fix it? please help thanks
How's the car holding up?
