5AR blockers reduce androgens which are known to be involved in preventing dry eyes. With these patients, I usually suggest finding the lowest effective dose of perhaps finasteride instead. Slowly tirating up in strength , eg 0.25mg daily for 3 months, 0.5mg for 3 months and 1mg for 3 months allows the body to adapt to the changes and unregulate other mechanisms of keeping the eyes lubricated - might be another useful tool.

Most of them including this guy have had hair transplants that's why their hairline looks so good. They need to stay on the minoxidil to maintain the hair that wasn't transplanted. Though most of them skim over the fact they've had a transplant and make it sound like it's the products they shill have done all the work and briefly glaze the fact they've had surgery

    • @nathan87

Firstly, hair loss in many cases is now entirely treatable. Just because somebody has a full head of hair, does not mean they do not have androgenic alopecia! In other words, somebody may *seem* not to need treatment, even though they actually do.
Secondly, with hair loss, the ideal time to start treatment is *before* you seem to need it. If you wait until you seem to need it, your hair loss has progressed to a point where it becomes difficult to reverse.

    • @johnfox901
      @johnfox901 2 місяці тому

that is a good point although that doesn't mean that they aren't very invested in preventing hair loss. I have been focused on preventing hairloss for 15 years, taking finasteride for 14 years + and now dutasteride and oral minox for 6 months. Many people tell me that my hair looks fine and i don't need to do these medications BUT, I was losing hair in my 20s and immediately started doing something about it so perhaps I saved my hair and maybe even regrew some. Im going to try the oral minox for a full year before I decide on it.

Dr. Parissis: If you take oral minoxidil, you need to take it with a loop diuretic, otherwise you get fluid retention, thus the symptoms you're experiencing. I am taking 5 mg or oral minoxidil and 2.5 mg of oral finasteride daily. I am feeling fine. The body eventually gets used to the drugs and the side-effects go away. As people get older I've read (people 40+ years) it takes more oral finasteride for it to be effective for hair regrowth.

Thank-you for advice. Although it’s never best practice to introduce diuretics to counter the effect of other medications. Diuretics have serious effects on kidney function and blood circulation. Whilst they may help here, trying to optimise the dose of oral minoxidil is certainly going to be my first approach.

@@monke7532 From my reading, 1mg of Finasteride might not be as effective once a person is age 40 and up. I read post menopausal women are given the amount I am taking with positive results whereas 1mg was ineffective. Men go through a process once they hit their forties called andropause and am thinking that we may have the same issue and needing the increased dose too. I break it up though, 1.25 mg in the morning and 1.25 mg at night.

I've experience this too, and it was noticeable after only two days using it. I tried several times and every time it happened. Wasn't worth it for me, easier to get a good wig or something than to fix my face.

Minoxidil turns me into the Michelin man with subcutaneous water retention. I wonder if I stuck with it, if it would eventually go away

Looks like rosacea. Dysbiosis of the skin. Ivermectin cream helps with this.

I took this stuff for about a month and couldn’t deal with the sides at all. Chest pain, heart palpitations and it just genuinely made me feel awful like there was something really wrong with my heart. Had to stop taking it. Finasteride gets all the hate but it gave me zero sides, whereas Minoxidil was absolutely horrible

were you taking it at night or in the morning. I felt awful when I was taking it in the morning by midday at work but now that I take it around dinner time I don't notice any side effects.

Redness still visible on the cheeks. Doesn’t seem like a fair trade of for some increased “hair thickness”. Stay away from oral minox folks!

I was listening intently to your explanation because I've been taking finasteride 3 to 4 times a week and I noticed that my face is a bit swollen in photos. I did a quick google a while ago and a puffy face is one of the possible side effects of oral finasteride as well. I got disappointed because I don't want to give up finasteride. It's the only thing that keeps my hair loss from getting worse. @@DrParissis

Other people says minoxidil aged their face/their hair became grey.
I've seen this in a hungarian forum too where most of the guys don't speak the english language, so they didn't have access to online fearmongering yet they still posted this.

It's probably not the minoxidil but the alcohol in the spray. Also, people treating hair loss generally happens at the age where their hair would start to naturally grey and also their skin would start to age. Could just be a correlation rather than a causation thing.
