He held the B natural for almost 4 seconds. An average hold. The note is actually written to be merely touched upon before descending, but tenors with easy tops over the last 60 years have made it almost traditional to hold it longer. It fits with the piece to hold it, because it is a bravura aria of triumph, & any tenor who sings it as written today would be wrongly accused of being frightened of the note. Kaufmann made a reasonable effort here.
If you close your eyes you can easily see the night fading away and the first rays of sunshine in the last part, and the full dawn in the last "vincerò" .
A legendary performance complete with "scoop singing" (which I find to be both refreshing and vindicating). At the crescendo and final "vincero" Mr. Kaufmann displays the rarest qualities of Pavarotti's intensity and boldness reminiscent of his televised performance of "O Soave Fanciulla" at the Met. Congratulations to Maestro Alsop, Jonas Kaufmann and the BBC Symphony Orchestra on a most inspiring performance!
Kaufmann never fails to get me with that powerful voice..pair that with a powerful song like Nessun Dorma and you get an atomic performance! Truly Brilliant 👏🏾👏🏾💯
After Pavarotti, you always get nervous when they approach the finale. This bloke did a pretty decent job. Though every time I watch some one sing this it reminds me just how powerful Pavarotti was.
Pavarotti was overrated. Domingo was better. Just because you can sing both Donizetti and Puccini doesn’t mean you’re the best at either. He was the Volkswagen Golf GTI of opera. Very good at everything. Brilliant at nothing.

After Pavarotti, this is the best version, for me he is a great tenor, range of a tenor, with the timbre of a baritone, it is impressive I applaud his performance)...
Well.there are many superior versions of this area to.the most famous and popular one by Pavarotti.Pavarotti had a beautiful Lyric Tenor voice which suited the Bel Canto roles in operas composed by Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini.Turandot is an opera best suited to Spinto Tenor voices, there are some excellent recordings of Nessun Dorma by Corelli, Bjorling, Domingo, Cura, Kaufmann.Nevertheless you have every right to your opinion, which I respect.
For me, Mario del Monaco and Franco Corelli are made for the role of Prince Calaf. They have much larger and heroic voices than both Kauffmann and Pavarotti, not to mention, packed with killer looks.
He's the male version of Edda Moser. Edda had a big voice with a very dark timbre to it. You would have sworn up and down that she was a mezzo, but she was a soprano whose signature role was the Queen of the Night so she could get up there. It's the same with Jonas. He's got that dark heft to his voice which makes him sound like a baritone. However, he is a tenor and this proves that he can get up there.
Perhaps a dinosaur but this is not great Pucccini , often out of tune and not a great Calaf timbre. Try and listen to an early Bjoerling or more recently Corelli. Sorry Mr K but please no more Puccini from you Khushroo Suntook
Edda Moser's technique is much better than Kaufmann. He is singing throaty, that is not his true voice. No tenor voice sounds like this. Kaufmann's voice is dull, there is no ring to it.

Jean-Baptiste Grillon ,but I think Andrea bocelli kept it longer
Andrea Bocelli kept the note for 12 seconds. The longest I've heard is the great Pavarotti for 18 seconds
Jonas Kaufman is my favorite, singer, the Expression, and the Fantiasticly handsome man is Just the Ulltimate BRAVO Jonas
That’s a true victorious smile at the end. He really nailed it - Bravissimo 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This is out of this world. Best version i‘ve personally come across.
Couldn't we all use something so majestic, and inspiring as this!! Well done Sir. I've always enjoyed Placido Domingo singing this, but wow.
Congratulations to Maestro Alsop, Jonas Kaufmann and the BBC Symphony Orchestra on a most inspiring performance!

à parte che e' calante durante tutta l'aria ...
ma siete tutti sordi ?!?!...
@@ImInLoveWithBulla what a disrespectful comment, truely sad to see something like that. It's alright to have your favorites, but this is just nonsense
Jacob K calling him versatile and very good at everything is disrespectful?
@@ImInLoveWithBulla sorry chief but Pavarotti is the greatest at this aria. He knew how to control his passaggio much better than Domingo in my opinion. Domingo sounded like he was screaming occasionally. Most people definitely prefer Pavarotti's voice over Domingos. To say he was "brilliant at nothing" is arrogant as all hell. He made opera as popular as it is and noone even remotely comes close to contributing more. There's a reason most consider him the greatest tenor of modern times, he had a one in a generation voice. I hope you're a trained tenor making these comments.
Once in his generation. Voices are better now.
Великолепный , благородной красоты голос . Выдающийся певец нашего времени., Благодарю за доставленное наслаждение !!!
This is outragesly good !!! I saw it live on television, I was totally overwhelmed.
Love the Orchestral Hits specially at the end. So clean and precise!
TALENT AND BEAUTY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEAUTY AND TALENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DIVINE TENOR !!! DIVINE MUSICIANS !!! DIVINE CHOIR !!! BRAVO Dear DIVINE MAESTRO !!! BRAVO FOR ALL YOU !!! ENDLESS BRAVO Dear Jonas, Dear musicians, Dear Maestro !!! ALWAYS WITH A LOT OF LOVE AND LIGHT YOUR ETERNAL FAN NADYA MIRKOVA FROM SOFIA - BULGARIA
After Pavarotti, this is the best version, for me he is a great tenor, range of a tenor, with the timbre of a baritone, it is impressive I applaud his performance)...
On Nessun Dorma number 1 will always be Franco Corelli
Well.there are many superior versions of this area to.the most famous and popular one by Pavarotti.Pavarotti had a beautiful Lyric Tenor voice which suited the Bel Canto roles in operas composed by Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini.Turandot is an opera best suited to Spinto Tenor voices, there are some excellent recordings of Nessun Dorma by Corelli, Bjorling, Domingo, Cura, Kaufmann.Nevertheless you have every right to your opinion, which I respect.
@@peterholwill1170 Finally someone with knowledge
For me, Mario del Monaco and Franco Corelli are made for the role of Prince Calaf. They have much larger and heroic voices than both Kauffmann and Pavarotti, not to mention, packed with killer looks.
check out Andrea Bocelli singing this song
We see and hear so many people singing this and most are lack luster to say the least but this man sings it with passion and his voice is amazing
Kakav glas kakvo izvodjenje, divno, prelepo mladi covece ,dar ,nesvakidasnji, poseban bravoooo
Came here while looking for a good rendition of "Rule, Britannia!" and found this masterpiece. Probably my favorite so far.
What do you think about the "brexit" ? Should GB implement a new referendum ? My question being a German..:)
the look on his face at the end, worths a million
@@khushroosuntook4840 Viva Corelli!
@ian1856 He never sounded good. He was too nasal and masky before he started singing like he does now. His true voice is like Bonisolli’s.
Oh look the armchair wannabe tenors huddled together spouting shit. Poor souls.
Probably this is the best version of this song i have ever heard . All world love this Wonderful Tenor and Fantastics Actor ..My Best Tenor Ever ..👏👏👏👏💕💕💕🌹🌹🌹...
No pasa ni un dia que no oiga alguna de tus arias...me alegran la vida. Bravo!!!
That smile in the end was AMAZING. Sense of achievement
¡¡¡FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS!!!DESEAMOS AL TENOR ALEMÁN JONAS KAUFAMANN,QUÉ NACIÓ UN 10 DE JULIO DE 1969...BRILLANTE CANTANDO..
NESUM DORMA!!🎤🎵💐
If this were performed at AGT, everyone would clap every 10 seconds
Remove the 0
And scream and hoot.
I guess it's not just musicians
@Sohrob Rouhani woah you listen to Opera too?
They won’t perform in AGT
Just love his style & the Strength in his voice & entire being.
One of the best versions of Nessun Dorma I have heard.Such depth and clarity.
You obviously haven't listened to many tenors then! Kaufys technique is bad.
I cried. I would love to see this live one day
The power in that voice. Look how far the mic is away from him. 👏
OMG. The smile at the end after the feeling of complete and utter triumph. Vinceró!
I am proud that Germany gives this talented man to the world. Dankeschön, Gänsehaut, Tränen.....
Mr. Kaufman, you always make me cry. I love your voice and the passion you put in your interpretation so much. Thank you. ❤
