Remember to tell people to be VERY, VERY CAREFUL! You only want to trim enough of the nail so that a tiny bit of the quick bleeds. This is easier on birds with pink feet and relatively clear nails - you can see the quick most times. It’s a little more difficult on birds with dark or black feed and nails.
Where did you send the feather to ? I have a injured say’s phoebe & a new problem is above 2 tail feathers where he was poked in the nest before dragged out to hang by his rear right toe having palm tree husk wrapped & connected to the nest . It was pink small raised areas where he now has 1 bulging area that has a center tiny raised area . Not long like his video’s on female birds with a prolapsed uterus . I cleaned this very well & legs, toes . His left wing is still dropping & both sides seem blocked by that raised area - not able to place his wings to the center & over his tail feathers . Like a indented area . I am unaware if males have this during mating season & problematic if they can’t mate . I read that his species will go after a nest to mate with the female watching over her hatchlings . A 2nd bird entered the nest april ‘20 .. took one of 3 after poking this guy in many places . He is a amazing bird & I got him to free fly . He got along wonderfully with my deceased dog & cat- they all 3 made a great security system lol & protected another . So much needs to be documented that isn’t. His call is not on any site & he has one to warn humans lol .. he disliked a guy . He looks into human glasses & see’s his image - loves to sit on shoulders & bare knee’s . They see our nails as a beak & I found that interesting. What ever this area is , he had me very concerned yesterday . Just laying, eyes closed . Held him for 2 hours after cleaning & he got up on his legs . Any help is appreciated. Ty , Lisa Oh, his toe being injured , i would rather not cause pain. This species uses their nails to perch on small things . I have counted wing feathers based on sites - he would be a male.
The rosella female have a white stripe under the wing Sttech the wing out and you can see the it on young birds there is No need to dna rosella a lot easy er
Its a bit stressfull, but trust me it doesnt hurt the birds as bad as it looks. This is an important part of a breeding program so it is something that needs to get done in order to insure future success.
Hey why don't you take feathers as a DNA a sample. Its very disturbing for bird to cut their nails. It may lead to stress. We only use their feathers as a sample for DNA sexing.
I literally JUST CHECKED to see for a new video right before you uploaded this! lol. Glad to see a new video!
😁 thankyou glad you look foward to them
DNA sexing is the only way to go. Great video cause some people don’t know how to this.

If you could show how much of the nail you have to cut off, that would be very helpful. Thanx
