  • Welcome back!
    Today's video is about how to possibly tame canaries! We made a small guide with a few steps that might win your birds their trust.
    Please let us know what you think of our small guide and if you see improvement in your birds trust! Also feel free to leave suggestions for the next video!
    ps. because I can't stress this enough, don't remove juvenile birds from their nest to tame them, they need their parents until independent and also remember that not every canary (or any birds) is able to trust humans and become tame towards you.

    I have taken a found canary on February 13th.
    I never thought she'd ever come near my hands, but since yesterday, she started to inspect them.
    My scared birdie is now a handtame canary that likes to be with me everywhere.
    Canaries are amazing pets.
    She's always flying loose.
    She has her safe spaces on top of the closets, in the plant bins, on the watercooket, well, anywhere she pleases really.
    I don't bother her, she will talk to me, or come to me herself if she wants attention.
    Her body language will tell if she appreciates me being closes or not.
    Today she even slept close to me when I took a little nap.
    My house is a mess, because I took my time to enjoy these moments with her.
    The first landing on my arm, jead, first time sirting on me for a while, first time landing on my finger, eating deom my hand.
    it was amazing.
    it IS amazing.
    My scardy birdie has become a sweet companion that loves close contact.

    I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I lost 3 of my original canaries back in December 2022, and before seeing this video I did all of these things without knowing that's how you tamed them. The ones that have passed did have moments when they would randomly hope on me. This helps assure they knew I loved them and that they started to feel the same towards me before they passed.

    A year ago my grandma canary had 3 babies. I noticed that the mother was ignoring the smallest one and feeding the 2 bigger ones. In the past the mother had done the same thing and the smallest one always died. To prevent this from happening again I took the smallest one to feed. I then placed him back in the nest hoping the mother will just sit on him because I didn’t know how to keep him warm. Once I did that the mother stoped feeding the other 2 and would not sit in her nest. So I ended up taking the other 2 and had the responsibility of taking care of 3 newborn canaries. I did a good job and raised them to be fully feathered canaries. Once they learned how to fly around the house the two older ones would have nothing to do with me but the little one would always fly to my shoulder and just chill with me. I had a plan to go to Florida for a week and had to leave them with my grandma. When I came back the little one had passed and I was very Heartbroken. I felt guilt. My grandma said he just got sick out of nowhere. Maybe the mother canary knew that the youngest was weak and was going to die that why she was focusing on the other 2 but at least I tried and I hoped he lived a great life even if it was short.

    Ik had een gewonde kanarie gevonden buiten, na het bezoek aan de dierenarts besloot ik om haar zelf te houden. Ze heeft alles wat ze moet hebben, een ruime kooi, bad, eten, snacks, water, stokjes, spiegel, speelgoed,… alleen weet ik niet of ze gelukkig is. Hoe kun je zien of een kanarie zich goed voelt? Hoe weet je of ze helemaal niet tam wilt gemaakt worden? Alvast bedankt!

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  2 роки тому +1

      Ze heeft het in ieder geval goed getroffen bij jou! 💛 als kanaries gelukkig zijn dan laten ze dit vaak zien door te badderen, poetsen, lekker hun eigen ding te doen, goed te eten en drinken en fluiten (al doen voornamelijk mannetjes dat). Kortom ze zijn dan lekker de hele tijd bezig 😄
      Het niet tam willen zijn merk je eigenlijk pas in het proces. Als er vanaf de eerste stap al een langere tijd (ook deze stap kan weken duren) geen positieve veranderingen zijn en dat ze minder comfortabel lijkt, dan zal ze niet tam willen worden. Maar ook dit kan na een lange periode en vertrouwen winnen door niks te doen en alleen de dagelijkse verzorging, verbeteren waardoor het ooit wel mogelijk zal zijn 😄

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  2 роки тому +4

      We only open the windows at night when my partner and I both know for sure they are both in their cage (we lock them in their cage when they sleep) and we check every window like 3 times before opening the cage again 😄. And if we want to open the window during the day we communicate and make sure the canaries are inside the cage and locked in (they easily jump in of we bring them to the cage). We also have an extra door between the front door and house and our house rule is that one of the doors must be closed at all times when the other one is being openend, but if we expect visitors we lock the birds inside their cage to prevent possible accidents. We take a lot of precautions 🙈

If he would be often in his cage, how large at last should the Cage be? He prefer longer cage than tall as I heard. Is dust dangerous for him? How often he need special send and cutting nails? And if I must leave him alone for one weekend and I will give him enough food and water, will he be ok? And can I replace his cage for night next the wall and at the day replaced the Cage in front of the window to have more sun? Thank you for answer 🙏 and sorry for bad English 🐦

    • @Thebeetlemangr
      @Thebeetlemangr 2 роки тому +3

      Woah, that's a lot of questions buddu, I may not have canarirs yet but I think I can help you with some of your questions, is that Ok ?
      1) Is he gonna be loud in the morning?: YES yes he will most likely be, and not just in the morning, if you have other birds he will likely even try to mimic their dounds in his song.
      2)Could you sleep in the same room with him?:
      It depends, I personally have no issue sleeping in the same room as my birds but some people may have allergies to the dust that bird feathers produce.
      3)How big should his cage be?:
      Although a finch or budgie flight cage is the best option I would say that a breeding cage(around 60 cm in length) can still be a great option if he doesn'r spend too much time in the cage.
      4)should the cage be long or tall?:
      Preferably both, birds like to fly horisontaly but they still need some height to feel comfortable. Depending on how much time he spends out of his cage you may even be able to get away with a cage that is taller than is long.
      5)Is dust dangerous to canaries?:
      Birds have a very fragile resperatory system, and canaries are no exception,dust particles in the air can cause resperatoty infections and other health related problems.
      6)Will he need to have his nails cut?:
      Almost all birds will have to get their naild trimmed every once in a while, however you can slow the need for a nail trim by using natural wood perches, platforms and consrete perches(never sand perches).
      7)Can I leave the bird for the weekend and will it be fine?:
      You will need to have someone come and check on the bird at least once a day if you are gone, they will also be able to do some dasic meintenance such as changing the wather in case the birds taked a nath in the wather dowl, or if you use water bottles change in case it starts leaking.
      8)Can I use a differect cage for sleeping?:
      You probably can but I dont reccoment it, it's better to just move the cage from the window to the place where the birds will be sleeping.
      Have a great rest of the day buddy !

      It will be different as your bird can't leave it's safe space and therefore you need to enter it's safe space (which is not advicable) 😊 Do you live there permanently or temporary? Otherwise I would try to keep most of the contact outside of the cage 😊
      Also never push your bird to sit on you or have contact with you if it doesn't want that, that only works the wrong way

    I have four canaries I’ve only just got them the other day they’re over a year old I have two yellow canaries, which are a pair and two Gloster canaries, which are also a pair. They’re together in a cage although I realise that’s a mistake and I will separate them when I can afford to. I am worried about letting them fly around the room in case I can’t get them back in again they escaped today and I had to get my neighbour to come and catch them with a net Although I know that must’ve been very frightening for them. How do you get them back into the cage if they’re not tame yet?

    • @LemonBirbs
      @LemonBirbs  3 дні тому

      @@Gracie765 Birds will often go back into their cage when the sun is starting to set 😄 They see their cage as safe space and will always go back to it for food and rest (although some birds are very stubborn and think closets are also a good resting spot 😂). So you could try testing letting them fly around the room a bit before sunset to let them get adjusted to flying back to the cage 😄 but do make sure they are also fully adjusted to the cage already, otherwise they might not go back either if they don't feel like it's their territory yet 💛

    So I just got this canary I think he's just over 6 months old. His owner couldn't take care of him anymore . And I don't know much about canaries. I'm talking to him every day and sitting with him. He has had no training previously. I've only had him for 4 days I'm holding food in my hand. I'm patient with him. At the moment he's just getting used to me sitting I know he wants the food out of my hand but he's not sure about this at the moment. I want to be able to let him out for a fly around. And hopefully returned to my hand to be put back in his cage do you think this is possible with what I'm doing at the moment 🤔O And i think you and your birds are amazing. You must put an awful amount of time into them. That's why I thought you were the best person to ask. Your videos are very interesting and informative thank you 😀

      Hiya! Thankyou for taking care of him! I bet his previous owner really appreciates that! 💛
      Four days is a very short time for a canary to get fully accustomed to his new life and surroundings, so that may cause him to be even more uncertain of what to do. The goal you want to achieve is definitely possible, but may take a looot of time (days to months to years) depending on the birds character and respecting his boundaries, but possible!
      And thankyou so much! I do indeed put all my time into them (and have done multiple behavioural studies in my current study) 😂

He mostly just looks at his mirror, so I wanted to tame him so I could interact with him. Since it's an older bird I worry getting him a friend might just make them fight instead. This can cause a prolaps, not to mention how uncomfortable it must be to hold your poop if you need to 😅 canaries poop around every 15 minutes and if they get the right diet, their poops are very easy to wipe away with a wet cloth (doesnt even need to be wet though)
