Custom Shapes

- I’ve been playing around with Custom Shapes in Photoshop to try out a different way of generating thumbnails and compositions. I love the old west, so I thought about creating some cinematic compositions for a revenge story I have in mind. I quite liked where some of these ideas were going so, in the future, I might revisit some of these designs and develop them further.
Anyway, I figured some people may be interested in the process, so here’s a time-lapse of how I created these designs.
As always, I hope some of you find it useful.
Cheers!

No problem, I'm glad you like it
Amazing art! Thanks for sharing :D
Awesome work,
🐎
Well that is cleaver. I think I will try this :D
Nice sketches and technique
I was covering this process today with my students and you can bet that I’m urging them to watch your video. Very inspiring.
Cheers for the comment Anthony. If you're showing it to your students, just let me know if you need anything clearing up or explaining further. I hope they find it useful
David Paget so each layer is a clipping mask layer: when you directly paint, as opposed to placing and manipulating custom shapes, are you creating a new clipping mask layer above the custom shape layer to do your brush work? I hope that makes sense!
I think I understand your question and the answer is - a bit of both. If I'm wanting to focus in one area (say the ground for example), I'll paint into a clipped layer so that it only focuses on the ground itself. But, if I'm adding atmosphere, fog, general rough texture, I'll paint on a new layer (that isn't clipped) so it blends and paints over everything. If that makes sense?
super nice job
Thanks man, really appreciate it!
Awesome.
Thanks!
Это просто великолепно,спасибо за туториал)
So cool David! :) ive experimented with the custom shape tool on and off but not to this extent, you're really maxing its potential here - these fames are really great, and so hypnotizing to watch - excellent choice of backing track to :)
Wow!!!
thoses are so good, you really are talented !! bravo !
Awesome I like it
Thanks John!
There were a few times when it looked like you were exploring the main character as a middle and almost foreground piece. I wish you would have solved that. It would have been great to have seen the main character closer to camera. Overall, they are really beautiful frames that capture a sense solitude and perseverance. I think your technique with the shapes was very successful also.
were you coming up with these compositions on the spot, or had you already sketched out some thumbnails?
GoBIGclan From the looks of his workflow it looks like it’s pretty much on the spot
hi, i would liike to download your custon shapes.thanks you
The last piece reminds me of The H8ful Eight.
What tool are you using to stretch and manipulate the custom shapes?
Is it a specific funtion under transform?🤔 Cause the normal transform doesn't do that
where to download or buy it bro, so cool??
nice. is there any way to get on those custom shapes?
what's your canvas size?
Where can i get those beautiful custom shape presets?
Hi. They're mostly shapes I've made myself and they're not currently available online. If you want to check out artists like Sparth and Long Pham, they have custom shapes available on their gum road accounts. Hope that helps!
Like your work, and what is the name of music ?
Cheers John. It's called White Lotus by Kevin Macleod. There's a link to the song in the info above.
world best tutorial
How to get my own custom shape?
Where do you get your brushes?
Hi Dimitri. The brushes are mixture of Photoshop defaults, custom brushes I've made myself and others from different artist packs I've collected over the years (artists like Maciej Kuciara, John Sweeney, Eytan Zana, Craig Mullins, Marek Okon, Grzegorz Rutkowski, and more)
what sort of textures did you get these shapes from? can you do a tutorial please? :))
Hi Reuben. I get the textures from all kinds of photos of landscapes. If you check out the photo packs on Photobash.org they have some great sets there. And I might do a tutorial in the future if there's a demand for it :). Cheers!
@@davidpagetart please make tutorial , how to make custom shape
can i get ur custom shape please ?
17:52 lmao
I would also definitely pay $20 for your shapes on gumroad
also, I'd pay 20 bucks for your shapes if you were to put them on gumroad ;)
Amazing! That's exactly what we need - more cookie cutter "concept art" that everyone has already seen a hundred times. Now even the individual shapes will be the same in every picture! :D
