Krita is such an amazing program! The vector functionality is still a bit clunky right now, but still very powerful. Inkscape is a rather difficult program to work with, but it will do the job to create some basic shapes to create composites from. Two things I hope Krita can still inprove is the docker for the vector library (I would prefer a grid view without labels) and for Krita to offer the ability to create these libraries and add objects to existing ones.

Krtia has not a very good vector system yet.... But, this library is awesome and for rasterized drawing is far BETTER than PS, I can tell this and repeat it aloud! So, nice work and keep on!

While I didn't learn anything new about vector libraries or the interesting tidbits using layer structures and filter masks, I did see a different approach to what value vector libraries could have. It's given me some inspiration to what types of libraries I could build for my own uses. Many thanks!

I am enjoying using Krita as will be seen in some of my Videos. My only problem is not having a Vector Layer be able to be on the Animation timeline atm. I have been figuring out different ways you can animate using the vector line layers and will present this to my channel very soon but it's still something that definitely needs to be worked on more. I love using all the Open Source programs and some proprietary I have used for yrs but Krita, Inkscape, GIMP & Blender are definitely the best 4 Open Source programs to use if you're a Creator that's for sure! 👍🏼

Krita is amazing. My primary draw tool. But the vector shapes masking looks raw. I vectorized some rock/water/clouds shapes in a BW images into SVG, made a vector library in Inkscape just as you described, imported into Krita as symbol lib. But can't use them. Maybe there is a some constraints or requirements for svg shapes that you didn't mention. But looks promising anyway!
Interesting, these will add a lot to my lack of making backgrounds and conceptual art, and to krita environment in general. I never use filter masks on my paintings because they are laggy and slow to display the result, i make a duplicate layer with filter applied and use transparency mask.
This is how things are improved, if more people use a feature, then we discover new ways to optimize it with reports. So if you find something Report it please. //RM
Hi! Excelent video, thx for sharing your knowledge. I have a question, as I'm starting to use Krita and I don't really have an artistic background it's been very hard to me to create drop shadows in a Vector layer (similar to power point dropshadows on regular forms). Is it possible to do it? I've found the way to do it in the whole layer but not in specific geometric forms inside a layer.
It should be click and drag instead of drag and drop to add shapes to canvas, just like in photoshop, paintnet or paintshop pro. It would allow a much faster and fluid workflow.
Unrelated to this vids topic. this question is for the team. Are you guys planning on even morr complicated brush engine (physics based) like the one you find on Corel painter? Y'all already have the best software for artists already in my opinion, but corel does beat it in term of how realistic and good the brushes feel, and it's the only thing that keeps me using it more then Krita, so very curious if that's something y'all have in mind for the future. If so, I'll never touch anything else beside kirta.
I always liked custom shape workflows, but I never got around to making any for krita. I wish it could save selections to vector like in ps, without going over to inkscape to make them.

i can get them to work transform them etc, but, I cannot get to recolour them I do all the steps up to the point I choose the colour I want but cannot change the image from black to say blue. like I see you right click and you get options. my right click I get no drop down menu. maybe its a settings thing ,help pls

Hello, someone might have already known this, but I wanted to post it here just let others know. You can make a shape in Krita and import the image as a png into Inkscape. Once in inkscape go to path--trace path, you'll have to press "update" in the editing box if you don't see your image and then hit "apply". Once that is done you can go ahead and make your image into a symbol and save as shown in the video.
Which brush do you want to add. If it is included in the included bundle for Krita 3 is ok, But you can't import brushes from Krita 5, or Krita 4 (.kpp files) in Krita 3 because now (5) the engine is much better, there are more options that were not available before. That changed the code in the software. (a really hard task) . But let me know if i can help you //RM

I don't think so (15:43). - Vector graphics is a topic of it's own. they aren't just some shapes and tools which you can import in an exsisting programm. The workflow is different as well. in vector graphic you create object. in a painting programm you want to play with pixels and do everything you can do on paper and pen or on canvas and oil, you got the idea, i guess. perhaps krita transforming in the future to a suite. A set of 2 programms one for painting and one other for vector like the early photoshop suite but, to be honest who want a photoshop copy anyway? we do have good free programms who do the job like gimp, inkscape and 3D with blender as well. - an seemless import of those object would help and will be all you will need.
Well who knows. the future. Krita is funded by the community and sponsors so, it deppends of that support to create much more things in future. Also i was focussing in use vector as 2d Helper, and it works. Now it needs to be improved if this likes or gather a lot of people´s interest. //RM

One thing I miss is the Tool options. Before in Krita we had that to help with the uncoloured bits, but now we don't have that.
It would be awesome if we could animate with vector shapes, maybe even tween them, but its seems hard.

Not all the SVG files work, they need to have symbols included. If the author has not included them, Krita can't load them. //RM

I did not know the transform would bypass vectors stiffness it is a good tip.

Well who knows. the future. Krita is funded by the community and sponsors so, it deppends of that support to create much more things in future. Also i was focussing in use vector as 2d Helper, and it works. Now it needs to be improved if this likes or gather a lot of people´s interest. //RM
I've noticed this on your brushes tutorial as well When discussing downloading bundles or these vector resources you don't indicate where they come from and how you can get them
