    I truly hated to see the old custom paint job gone after so much work and it turned out so well, but its great that you had the opportunity to test your skills in a pro paint shop. Great job!

    Hi Del, I learned how to spray years ago when I worked for ICI. It's a totally different ball game and having a full mixing scheme to hand is amazing. You have achieved a lovely result, and the finish is way deeper and richer than you can achieve with rattle can paint. There is no sink back, and the distinction of image looks great.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you David, I really appreciate your input, I learned so much in one day, and the biggest lesson of all was that there is a technique to using the gun efficiently aside from all of the technical information to take in, just handling the gun effectively is the thing that will take the practice, and I hope to get some more soon, as I have an open invite to go back whenever I need to!

    • @David40S
      @David40S 4 роки тому

      It took me a while to learn the correct distance and technique. I was taught by an amazing lady who was tiny, but able to spray a whole car smoothly and quickly despite her size. She didn’t tolerate lazy technique and made sure that I got it right.

    Good job! looks good! I am sure glad you moved away from those rattle cans! they are for kids and bicycles and old women and lawn chairs. Also so glad you decided on gloss matte is so has been. I knew you could do it! I remember I was so nervous first time I did it. If I was in the UK I would buy you a beer. The whole key is that fine line not so thick it runs but not so thin it orange peels

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 роки тому

      Thanks buddy, it is a fin line indeed.. it helps that the booth provides the perfect environment for paint as most of the issues painting in a garage come from dust and trash in the air.. plus it helps that it cures in 35 minutes once you crank up the heat and bake it.

  • @REKLESSWOLVES1
    @REKLESSWOLVES1 4 роки тому

    How satisfying was that mate, could tell you were having fun doing it, massive learning curve for me too going from basic rattle can paint to 2 packs, dunno about you but i found this method a lot easier than rattle can application, everything from the panel wipe degreaser to the room you have in a proper spray booth to the drying and curing times, so much easier than waiting days for a chemical cure to occur when you have an oven baking the paint, colour looks amazing though i doubt the youtube contrast does them any justice mate, they POP once you get them in the sun on the bike. Cracking video mate, give my best to The Bride Penny x. Take care. Glen Claypole.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Glen.. Yes it was a huge culture shock, 35 minutes and its ready to rub down, thats crazy, like you said, that would be days and even then you'd have to be gentle.. You're right also, it looks incredible in the sunshine (from the short glimpse i had walking it back to my unit), some camera shots it looks gold.. others it looks a dark orange. but in daylight it's all of those colours and shimmers too.. really happy with it so far. have a good weekend mate, and thanks for your support.. Hi Del, what did you use to wipe down the paint properly and cleanly in-between coats to in order to keep the dust off? I'm going to be painting my tank soon, but can find very little information on the type of cloths I need, and I understand they have to be 'solvent based' lint-free cloths for use between clears and Candys etc?

    Brilliant, just brilliant...love this color. I for one am so happy you chose gloss. Absolutely the best choice hands down as Satin would do a big disservice to all that color. This bike is going to look stunning now if you ask me. It’s just my taste, and I’m so bored with Black painted bikes. If you said so I missed it, so why did you decide to scrap the old paint job you did?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 роки тому

      Firstly, thank you for your kind words Patrick, the whole thing from start to finish was an evolution, at the start I fully intended to paint it matt black, then the painter suggested I look through his colour charts before I decided, we looked at some great satin copper finishes, and if you watched the video all through, you'll see we literally decided on the hoof to go with gloss, once I'd got the colour fully laid up, it took on a satin finish (as it always does) and I saw the potential straight away in using a clearcoat, so all in all, really happy with the result... it pays to stay flexible and keep your options open aye?! As for scrapping the old paint job, much as I loved it, sometimes it looked a little fussy and busy in place with all the other black and chrome, I felt a single block colour would, maybe, simplify the bike and make it look a little more sleek! Plus, of course, a wonderful opportunity handed to me by a generous pro painter willing to reach out to the amateur sector.
