TK Leskey the Mancubi made it funny for me mainly since their grunt sounded like hump your mom or I’m your mom, and the arachnos just looked funny to me. Yeah I liked making fun of designs
A bug in this map: "A possible bug or warning that occurs is that if the last 2 arachnotrons die at the same time, it may cause the stair step surrounding the exit in the center to rise twice, making the exit in the center become seemingly inaccessible, but if this happens, you can still access the exit by running across from the lowered northwest or northeast platforms."
Thank you. I was completely baffled that the video made no mention of lowering the stair case. Was about to restart the level until I saw your comment.
So nostalgic watching these walkthroughs! Thank you! This is my favorite level in DOOM II. So simple in design and yet it gets my heartrate up every time. Despite now being much, much better at the game than when I was a child, this level is still a great challenge. DOOM is eternal!!
I find so amazing how much of a seasoned professional you are at these games and how you have the names of every single thing memorized like the back of your hand, even the names of certain walls! I mean, who knew the makers named one of the walls a Bathament (if that's how you spell it) Wall? I sure as hell didn't. No pun intended XD. But the fact that you have all this memorized reminds me of back when I was playing Doom before I found your guides and I would be talking to my bro who also loved and was I think pretty pro at Doom, he at least had the enemy names memorized, and I would run into a demon on surprise and I would jump screaming "AHHHHHHHHHHHH! PINKY!!!!! PINKY!!!!!! HOLY SHIT PINKY!!!! OH GOD!!! OH THE HUMANITY!!!" etc, etc. And my bro (Cristo is his name) would get all annoyed, do the sigh that always is accompanied by the rolling of one's eyes, and say, "They're not called Pinkies, they're called demons," the annoyance intentionally clear in his voice, to which I would reply "But that's what everybody calls them, it's their nickname cause they're pink." And then it would go on and he'd get pissed because he's a grammar Nazi and everybody always has to be politically correct around him, well, really only with Doom terms, and demand I call them by their correct name. But I insisted on still calling them Pinkies, and still to this day, because it's just more fun that way. Also, because I can. Also, because that's what I was originally introduced to them as, and old habits die hard. Anyways, yeah. Just an amusing little anecdote. :)
@@SkrillexDeath Funny how my ass is having a tough time and very surprised at how hard Doom 2 actually is. Doom Eternal includes the original Doom 1 and 2 that are unlockable which I'm currently playing on and I am genuinely getting stuck at some parts having to look up videos like these, I'm having a more difficult time then the campaign I beat on Doom Eternal lol. Also you'll be happy to find out that they now officially refer to them as Pinkies.
@@christopheryanez Doom 2 is so much harder and fun than Doom 1. 1) The SSG. 2) More and better enemies. 3) Better map design and less wandering. 4) See 1!

I'm also doing Doom II, but with Brutal Doom V19 :-) I remember first time playing this map and that was in the times when I was using only keyboard. I was like "Holy hell, how am I suppose to beat this map?"
It's meant for multiplayer only, but in most cases you can still access it using IDCLIP, although I seem to remember it being revealed normally in certain sourceports, presumably after you killed the last arachnotron. This secret exit also equips you with the BFG.
If you don't lower the platforms, you can take those monsters out with the super shotgun strafing from one wall to the next, saving your rockers in the process ;) but great video man! I use your walkthroughs to find all the secrets ;)
You can't. Its an inaccessible secret. Its only available in the multiplayer deathmatch mode...Or if you use the no clipping cheat on single player. there's also a secret exit
this room has caused me to die - a lot. I keep accidently getting one of the invisibilities, and then I get squished by the enemies cause I can't dodge.
Well played as always my friend :D As you said this map is insane ! It's insane on all difficulties but with your tactics it is doable - as long as it's not played at the Nightmare difficulty lol. Good thing the map creator didn't put some Archviles along or Pain Elementals don't you think lol Anyways good video again and see you for your next video :D
Just keep moving/running and blasting them one by one out (plasma gun or rockets if you want to be safe), yoú're faster than them so take advantage from that :)
i came here to see if you had found the secret exit with a BFG 9000 It is on the outer ring, where the arachnotrons are (official name of the spider-brain monsters) The only way i found to access it is by cheating (type idclip to go through walls) it seems nobody has found a legit access, without cheating. Maybe forgotten by the programmers, or left for the cheaters and curious, i dont know And thanks for your walkthrough, especially on Doom 1 Thy flesh consumed, and explanations about the levels names. It was well needed :) It doesn t seem that way, but these games require some strategy and quick thinking, and especially for hard difficulty and/or speedrun. Nearly 30 years later, i still appreciate this game a lot and think it is an excellent game to discover and enjoy, a cornerstone in the (obviously!) "doom-like"and fps genre
Heh heh, funny enough, I was always imagining a Quake version of this map where you'd have shamblers in the courtyard, ogres lobbing grenades from above down at you, and vores along the perimeter.
Wow! It's kinda odd how the music called "Shawn's Got the Shotgun" is included in an ironically hard and short level like "Dead Simple". Fighting the Mancubi brings back memories of when their deaths are the goriest yet, and so are the Arachnotrons. Anyways, nice video.
Dude, the way you observe enemy fire and know how to control your movements, I think you would be a MASTER Touhou (Or any danmaku for that matter) player. You should definetly try it, with voice-over walkthroughs of course! ^_^
Simple design but deadly! And they really introduce the Mancubi and Arachnatrons in huge numbers! I laughed at the "Prepare to shit your pants" part real hard! But it means something!
I remember your no damage video for this map BigMacDavis. I don't know why I thought of this map as a PokeBall. I see how this map can be tricky, I tried to get 100% under par time, and I got torn apart, in fact my best time is 2:34. Nice job with the enemies, and good demonstrations sir.
The only secret is actually the rising stair which can be rocket jumped over (if you didn't know this already). Because of this I had an interesting discussion with AltimaMantoid as to why there wasn't a separate submission for NM100S and NMSpeed on Compet-N
This map was crazy terrifying and i was running and gunning the whole time. Somehow it only took me two or three tries... and then two more when I decided to do it again immediately after.
For the secret area, I believe in other version of Doom II, there is a secret room with supplies that you can access from the outer skirt's wall. So in this version, they removed that secret room and changed the secret tag to the steps on the exit instead of making the secret untaggable.
You forgot one secret room in the outside. The game does not consider it as a secret, but hidden behind the walls in a corner. It contains the BFG9000 and an EXIT teleporter. I used to cheat to get to it, but once I managed to open those walls, but I never knew how.
I cant believe youve memorized every single level to this degree, that's insane. Also what's insane is that im playing this in VR baby. AWWW YEAH its off the hook in VR. Highly recommend BigMacDavis.
LOL! When I was playing this map, I got "stuck" because there was a bug that happened on UV when I killed all of the arachnotrons. The stairs had lifted up twice! I thought I couldn't beat the level there! But all I had to do was get on one of those platforms the mancubi were standing on and strafe my way up, you'll see the footage when I upload it to my channel.
The Xbox 360 version there is a Exit Malfunction. To exit you have to walk onto one of the lifts the Mancubi was on and run onto the corner of the ledge where the exit is from the ledge of the Mancubi lift. Love your Videos man
Killing the Mancubus is pre programed as Sector tag 666 to lower the wall to Aracnotrons kills activates Sector Tag 667 to raise a step to exit. There is another exit but its where death match is with a BFG gun. And open from otherside.
I rushed this Map like AltimaMantoid did for my Map07 UV Let's Play Video, and dropped down to 4% health, and barely got the Megasphere in time. It had been a while since I last played this Map, and I usually do better than what my Video shows.
I liked your tips about the strafing techniques. They're the most important thing on a FPS game along with shooting techniques. If you master these two things, you probably will play much more easier any FPS game. About the map, I remember when I first played it... wow, that was scary. A lot of enemies with almost no cover, yeah. Anyway, nice video!
Yes, those two things are the most important. In any FPS game. Then again, there are some instances where even those can't save you. More is needed, lol.
***** Yay, you can answer my comments again, lol. Yeah, you're right. I think the third most important thing on a FPS game is to establish a foothold (or base, whatever) to kill the enemies without being surprised from where you cannot see.
This map is great. No numberous switches you have to do or secret areas, no fast running to take some hard hurdles. Just you, a square and the enemies. I like to keep most of the switches off and kill the Mancubus-men by peek-a-boo-ing form behind a wall and then get mental on the spiders.
Fun fact 1:- mega wads like Epic 2 and Alien Vendetta have a tribute to Dead Simple. Fun fact 2:- there's a area that can't be reached unless you use idclip. It only contains a exit.
I played this game from the CD when if first came out and it has always been my favorite. I find your walkthroughs the best out there. I have been playing it just with a keyboard and a mouse and find it hard to do the things (like strafing) so I get damaged more than I should. Can you Mac or anyone else advise me as to the best joystick or game controller to play these older games.
I was missing your vids Jeff, welcome back! I'm MrMontilius, I just changed my account "thanks" to Google+. But I kept my profile picture as I think it's funny. I love the next map, it's very tricky and confusing in a good way.
I have remembered playing this map when I had PS3 and I must've died couple of times, but I pulled it through eventually. The weird part about it is that I somehow never used Rockets alot as much why? I honestly have no clue or it's because I don't like rockets on my face as much hehehe. I'm weird at that.
First time I have played this map, the whole neighborhood could hear my screams of anger and fear. in the aracnotron part. man, when I though that I had done the map. the slaughter starts. and also, I played the doom 64 total conversion. there is a map like this one. but with traps in the outside walls.
This map is easily my favourite. Especially when i need to let off some steam. Throw on some music and just run around like a mad man killing stuff. Really destresses me out.
They probably didn't want any secrets in this map. But if they hadn't included at least one (the one near the exit switch), Doom would show 0% secrets at the end. And that would not be pretty.
When i was a child, i played doom 2 on ultra-violence, i guess, because i felt cool. When this map came along, i regretted that i chose Ultra-violence. Now, i play on Hey, not too rough (its still hard) and i died twice on this map.
Back then i just got wrecked, once i pushed that button. I needed quite some time to learn the pattern to dodge and attack. But i remember, it was a job to do. ^^°
I like your advice on dodging the Mancubus/Arachnotron fireballs, and did you know about that area in the upper left hand corner where you can get a BFG
***** by the way dude, I just got done with this map (my fastest time was 3:45 [and that was after flipping all 4 switches, and me being ballsy]) and those Invisibility Spheres works fairly well against those Mancubi and Arachnotrons, if you react quickly enough with the Rocket Launcher and Plasma Gun
Have you ever delved into, "DOOM Builder" before?....It's tricky and tedious when you first learn how to use it, and it's quite time consuming ( depending on how large and how much detail you make your map) but it's always a good time creating your own maps and then having other DOOM aficionados try them out!....It's just one more reason why DOOM is the greatest PC game ever made!!!....
I like using just the super shotgun alone on this map, that way I can use all the ammo strewn about to stock up for future missions. There are a TON of Shotgun shell pickups everywhere so may as well use em. I feel the max Shotgun ammo of 100 is kind of low for this game to be honest. I think they should have increased it to 200 considering you'll be using the super Shotgun a lot.
The Demon's Dead Simple. What do you think?
I like it. TwiDash is best pairing.
It's "20% cooler", I guess, lol. For me, the best pairing is FlutterDash. But it's just a personal opinion. Anyway, we all like Pegasus ponies.
FlutterDash is awesome too. There are a few cute scenarios out there on the Internet involving those two.
Yup. Not only cute, but some weird and embarrasing scenarios as well, if you know what I mean. ;)
They should make a troll edit of this one. After you kill the arachotrons the outer walls lower and you get hunted by cyber demons
When i killed the mancubi the first time i've played, i was almost overwhelmed with joy. Then i met the arachnotrons, and i said... What tha hell
This stage is pretty fun and very fast.
You are master of this game!
Yup, and if it showed 0%, it would flare up my OCD, lol.
the one thing i don't like about Doom 2 is the Scarcity of the Rockets wich Plutonia has perfect Balance with Rockets and that's Awesome
DOOM 2 gives you enough rockets to use on tankier enemies Plutonia has more heavy enemies which is why you get more rockets
BigMacDavis,Are you going to do Quake soon?
When i was a child, i played doom 2 on ultra-violence, i guess, because i felt cool. When this map came along, i regretted that i chose Ultra-violence. Now, i play on Hey, not too rough (its still hard) and i died twice on this map.
since then i played very hard wads and this map is dead easy even on UV
PLASMA GUN!
The best solution for arachnotron infestation!
Fight fire with fire. Fight plasma with plasma. :)
Back then i just got wrecked, once i pushed that button. I needed quite some time to learn the pattern to dodge and attack. But i remember, it was a job to do. ^^°
Oh, for sure, I remember dying tons back in the day.
I like your advice on dodging the Mancubus/Arachnotron fireballs, and did you know about that area in the upper left hand corner where you can get a BFG
Ah yes, that Deathmatch BFG.
There is another exit in this map but last night I noclipped and tried it but it just leade to the next level tricks and traps.
So... I'm assuming the next video will be coming out soon?
How I beat that stage: The demons just started battling each other
My guy Mancubi can’t in fight other Mancubi
I think they should have increased it to 200 considering you'll be using the super Shotgun a lot.
i was the opposite and used rockets and plasma constantly
I'm proud of myself because I didn't need help with this one xD but oh damn, that was a nasty level
maybe the switch is a secret because the level needed one to have 100% on secrets
The Demon's Dead Simple.
The Demon's Dead Simple - это название сопровождения и уровня, поэтому, Map 07,10,16 - The Demon's Dead Simple, хотя, сопровождение 'The Demon's Dead' звучит только в 10-м и 16-м уровне, а в 7-м уровне звучит другое сопровождение 'Shawn's Got The Shotgun', ещё оно звучит не только в 7-м уровне, а ещё в 19-м и 29-м уровне, и перечисление всех уровней: The Demon's Dead - Map10: Refueling Base, Map16: Suburbs, Shawn's Got The Shotgun - Map07: Dead Simple, Map19: The Citadel, Map29: The Living End, почему оно так называется 'The Demon's Dead Simple', не понятно.
Ahhh Dead Simple, where boys turn to men, what a fun map
I always save the mega sphere for last. I want to have 200 starting the next level it gives me more options.
