Supergirl. I'm a massive fan of all the Tom King short series comics. Woman of Tomorrow is largely a Supergirl version of an existing book, which I don't want to spoil, but it's a great story to re-imagine as a Supergirl comic.
Plus if it does well, maybe we get King's Mr. Miracle, Rorschach, or Human Target adapted.

I really think it’s smart to focus on both bigger and smaller characters, which Gunn has shown he can do well himself, and with the help of other writers and directors. A lot of people had no idea what The Boys, or Invincible was until shows came out. The boys was in demand more than Marvel shows at one point, and Invincible is loved. If you don’t think a character Booster Gold with the right director and writers can do that, you wildin lol. Imagine Booster Gold being done by Lord and Miller😭🔥🔥

Damian actually makes a lot of sense considering they want to introduce a lot of the bat family. it gives us a robin while also giving us the others, admittedly without their backstories, but it's not like they were ever going to make movies of each character's time as robin. This also makes a ton of sense to approach it in a drastically different way from The Batman franchise. But yeah, overall, i feel like the slate is pretty risky, it could easily all crash and burn. But frankly it kinda needs to be risky, and I'm cautiously optimistic about it all.

Why would fans be annoyed when you try to give superman depth? Superman is a boy scout. That's always who he is. He's not narcissistic when he carries his S symbol. He's the last of his kind and he's supposed to give people hope as what its supposed to mean.

I think this is one of those compromises you have to make when it comes to movie adaptations for these long running comic series. Comic books are drawings. But in the movies we may only get 3-4 movies focused on Batman because actors simply want to move on. You just don’t have time to cover everything and so I think skipping straight to Damian actually kinda makes sense.
By the time Dick grows into the role of Nightwing, the actor playing Batman might already want to move on.

I always hoped that once WB got it together with Dc, we’d get things like this being done since they’re a company who’s had success with things besides heroes with big directors. Instead of the same formulaic, comedic, cgi fests were used to seeing in this genre, we can actually see these movies delve deeper as dramas, sci-fi, mystery, and horror all in one universe. Everything can feel distinct, and have style tailored to what a director wants. We really can get a Stephen Spielberg Superman, or Edgar Wrights Flash someday without the whole “creative differences” excuse we hear from other companies when they don’t fall in line. It led superhero comics to lose a lot of readership and fail to bring new readers in for decades and now the movies are going down the same path

The best news for me to hear was the emphasis they're placing on the importance of the writing and not green lighting projects till they're confident in their quality, which places a huge emphasis on the importance of writers -- and considering how writers are treated/overlooked in the industry, this was an unexpected, but welcomed surprise.
Elseworld projects as expected sound the most interesting (for me) than the canonical stuff. Idk how The Batman 2 will top let alone match the first's Batmobile sequence. That was the best Batmobile chase I've ever seen on the big screen, but I can't wait.
As far as Superman is concerned, I wish James Gunn would put a cap on anymore Henry Cavill talk outside of dispelling rumors and misinformation. His latest attempt noting how Cavill "wasn't fired, just not hired" is a pretty tone deaf response imo. Especially in the wake of David Zaslav's project cancelations and Peter Safran's (imo) disrespectful vocal support of those decisions. That said, Gunn has more than proven his capability of adding genuine empathy and emotional depth to outsider characters so I'm sure his Superman film will be okay at worst. I just think it's funny by the time the movie comes out, it'll have been over a decade since our last Superman (Clark Kent) centered film. I don't think a rebooted origin story would've hurt, but obviously only time will tell.

DC has been all over the place in tone, theme, characterization, and certainly quality, across movies, shows, games, and comics. For this to work, it cannot have some self-styled auteur decide that their vision means everything adjacent can go hang, nor anyone who thinks their messaging is a higher priority than story or character. Gunn has a hard road ahead of him, and I'm not sure he has the amount of "no!" it's going to take.

The main concern for me and many other fans is the fact that we are seemingly getting an older Batman in his early 40s (41, 42, 43) and a Superman said to be in his mid 20s (24, 25, 26). The age difference in this situation is not very appealing when the two are supposed to be peers even though Batman has always seemed older.
    So, I propose a Batman timeline so that we can get the experienced Batman that has gone through Robins to have his son as a 3rd or a 4th (Depending on Tim's inclusion), and is young enough to be a part of a 10 year plan as a man in his prime. Specifically, early to mid 30s (31 - 36). Here is my proposed timeline;
Bruce Wayne is 8 years old when Thomas and Martha Wayne are killed.
Ex - British Soldier/Spy Alfred Pennyworth becomes Bruce's legal guardian. This is when Bruce's training begins in truth.
Training Arc I: Alfred begins Bruce's training in order to give the boy an outlet and the means to protect himself while he continues his school education.
Training Year One - Bruce is 8/9
Training Year Two - Bruce is 9/10
Training Year Three - Bruce is 10/11
Training Year Four - Bruce is 11/12
Training Year Five - Bruce is 12/13
Training Arc II: Alfred and Bruce travel the world in order to take a brake from Gotham. Bruce continues his education and training while gaining additional Mentors when Alfred has to leave for Gotham periodically to tend to the Wayne Manor and Wayne Enterprises.
Training Year Six - Bruce is 13/14
Training Year Seven - Bruce is 14/15
Training Year Eight - Bruce is 15/16
Training Year Nine - Bruce is 16/17
Training Year Ten - Bruce is 17/18
Training Arc III: Bruce becomes an adult and parts from Alfred, the latter returning to Gotham. He gets a Collage degree, gains more mentors, and runs into Ra's, Talia, and The League of Shadows/Assassins.
Training Year Eleven - Bruce is 18/19
Training Year Twelve - Bruce is 19/20
Training Year Thirteen - Bruce is 20/21 (He takes a gap year. This is when he runs into Talia specifically and begins his affair with her, siring Damian).
Training Year Fourteen - Bruce is 21/22
Training Year Fifteen - Bruce is 22/23
End of the Training Arcs. Bruce returns to Gotham. He trains for 15 YEARS and has been gone from Gotham for 10 YEARS.
Batman Year One - Bruce is 23/24
Batman Year Two - Bruce is 24/25. Dick Grayson becomes the 1st Robin at 13/14.
Batman Year Seven - Bruce is 29/30. Dick is fired and becomes Nightwing at 18/19. Jason Todd is taken in to become the 2nd Robin at 13/14.
Batman Year Nine - Bruce is 31/32. Jason is killed by the Joker at 15/16. Tim Drake is taken in to become the 3rd Robin at 13/14.
Batman Year Eleven - Bruce is 33/34. Tim is 15/16. Talia brings Damian to meet his father at 13/14.
Batman Year Eleven is where the Brave and the Bold should take place. We have a Batman who has trained for 15 YEARS, 10 of it which he spends away from Gotham, and has an 11 YEARS worth of experience as Batman under his belt.
He sires Damian during his solo travels as a 20 something year old. All of the Robins take on the mantle at 13/14 which I think is the most reasonable minimum age for a live action Robin.
Dick would have been Robin for the longest out of everyone (Which it is how it should be) and has been Nightwing for sometime at this point.
You can Include Barbara as Batgirl and her transition to Oracle in anyway you like using this template.
Jason was killed at 15/16 and is resurrected a couple months later at the same age range which puts him at 17/18 during Brave and the Bold. This gives him enough time to grow and come back as the Red Hood down the line.
Also, I think that Superman should be in his late 20s (27, 28, 29) as well. And before people think that this is too old for the planned Superman, I urge them to remember the fact that their beloved Henry Cavill portrayed the Man of Steel in an origin movie where he hadn't even began his career in the Daily Planet at the age of 28. So the ages 27, 28, or 29 for a Superman who isn't having an origin and has been a reporter for a little while and is considered young would be no issue at all.
A Superman who is 28/29 to a Batman who is 33/34 is absolutely perfect.
And to those who think these ages might not work, remember that Chris Evans was 29 when he played Captain America for the first time and RDJ was 42 when he played Iron Man for the first time. They played their characters throughout a 10 year plan as well and I think nobody is complaining about the results.
Anyway, if you have come this far, thanks I guess 😂😅

But the reason why I like that they start with the last robin, and the reason why I think they chose him is so we don't have to wait years to have nightwing, red robin and red hood. This way they can show up at any time they want and if they want to show them as robin they can always use the first half of their own movies to show us the whole progression, or even make the whole thing a prequel, which makes more sense than having the movie take place in the future and then go back to present day.

i wholeheartedly agree with the point that this new approach could very well feel like homework to most people. im honestly pretty disappointed to hear that (almost) everything is going to continue being part of a collective universe, even if it's a new one. it's already exhausting enough trying to understand, and explain, which comic book movies are connected to each other, which ones are standalone, which ones require prior knowledge, etc etc, and this new delineation between "canon" media and "elseworld" projects just feels like another layer of confusion i'm gonna have to explain to my dad. i've always been a big proponent of the idea that it makes sense for superhero movies to have insane concepts and interconnected references to each other, because that's how comic books have always been. but there's a point where it becomes, like you said, impenetrable to the casual viewer/reader. i can already imagine how difficult these movies are gonna be to recommend to people without spitting out an essay explaining why they exist. every time these movies are brought up it's gonna be like "no _this_ batman is a _different_ batman, the _other_ batman is his _own_ thing, but _this_ batman is part of the _new_ universe that was created in the _old_ flash's universe. yeah joker 2 is coming out but it's _not_ part of the _current_ universe, cause _that_ universe has its _own_ joker, and so does _The_ Batman."
i'm _also_ at the risk of sounding like a cranky old man when i say that i kinda wish they went the direction of every dc hero having their own standalone movies. it would set dc apart from the mcu and make it feel much more accessible, not to mention the fact that joker and the batman were both wildly successful, partially on the merit of them being completely independent. it's so relieving to hear the words "don't worry, you don't need to watch anything else to get it" in regards to superhero movies nowadays. that all being said, gunn's existing superhero films have never let me down, so here's hoping he can truly redirect dc's future in a positive direction.

The good thing about DC is that the Characters aren't just in 1 City like in Marvel.
In Marvel, Spider-Man might be right around the corner fight Green Goblin, while the Avengers are Nuking Time Square with Fin Fang Foom.
In DC, Superman might be facing Metallo in Delaware, while Green Lantern is in Space... Or in Black Adam's case, the Middle East.
So they don't necessarily have to be super connected like in Marvel, since they live far enough to not be heavily influenced Locally.

My only issue is having so many different versions of the same superhero and it make the timeline so confusing. I get that James Gunn wants to not only stick to the New 52 run of the DC heroes, but he should of done what MCU did and have a mainline time line and then have Flashpoint bring out other versions of the Super Heroes, at least then we can get invested in one actor / actress playing the hero then have so many different actors / actress playing the same hero

    • @christopherwashi

To be fair. The timeline isn't solid one bit currently. I mean you already had two different versions of The Justice League movie pre Gun. Sure they have the same outcome of Earth being saved but through different events. Honestly I like your idea maybe Gunn could have did a swan song and cap out the universe with some decent send offs to the DCEU versions before a reboot. I don't see the problem with just Two Batmans. Grounded detective stories/Character study on Bruce Wayne on side and Fantastical elements like Posion Ivy or Clayface/Batfamily stories on the other. It let's Batman be the best on both fronts. Unsure how Elseworlds are gonna pull this off.

I don’t mind starting with Damian as long as they keep him as the fourth/fifth Robin, his relationships with Dick and Tim are so interesting
Not to mention I think introducing the league of assassins in the first movie is a great opportunity to foreshadow Red Hood. I don’t mind them fudging with the timeline a bit if they want to hold off his reintroduction till after Damian’s Robin. It could be really interesting to have Jason’s death hang over Bruce and Alfred as Damian becomes Robin. The idea that the Robin title has this dark stain on it, scenes with Jason’s memorial in the background of the bat cave.
Tbh I think the league of assassins and Talia could be a really good through-line in a bat family focused series of movies. Bruce, Tim, Jason, and Damian have all had pretty defining experiences with them, and they seem like a good choice if they want to steer clear of the Joker.
Starting with a later Robin leaves the doors open for Nightwing or Red Hood movies, and I can’t say I’d complain about those, maybe what I’ve described takes the focus off Batman a little bit, but we’ve had so much Batman, and very little of the characters that surround him

So jumping in on the Brave and the Bold movie, I'm excited because a truly creative person could do so much with especially with the Grant Morrison run. And I think one of the best ways they could do this is while still having the war and maybe one or two characters in a mattress penguin like rolls from Batman classic Rogue gallery to focus instead on Rogues that we have never seen onscreen especially if they're from the more recent Grant Morrison run. If I had a choice between the first two Batman movies these are the villains that I'd want. To me the first perfect villain for the first movie is Professor Pyg. Think about it that man is trying to be a father which he's not great at because he didn't grow up fully with a father and his son is trained in a philosophy that is completely different from his. Pyg is not only a character we have never seen on film and fairly and most Batman media since he's an expert surgeon where he quote fixes people it can be a nice parallel to Bruce trying to perfect and control his son. I also think that if they go for a more lighthearted and Marvel like tone with most of the series, Pyg could be a nice contrast to wear because of all of the normalcy in the rest of the film when he shows up and basically becomes a Matt Reeves Batman character really Sucker Punch the audience with how awful and horrific he is. I think in this first movie you should also have Grayson consoling Batman and maybe showing up in an action scene near the end assisting him as Nightwing trying to do her thing having a strained relationship with Bruce. The second film I think would be perfect to actually introduce the Red Hood Jason Todd story. Because as I said in the first movie you have one Robin that turned out right and you have Oracle whose life was going well until Joker screwed everything up and then you have Jason Todd fail the robin who got murdered. This is also in a penguin like roll you can introduce this universe version of The Joker who's going to be the linchpin to all of this because red hood is a philosophy that movie 1 Damien would absolutely love and to some degree he still attracted to in this movie and of course Batman's going to have to confront his biggest failure. I don't know what a third movie would be but I think having Professor Pig and the Red Hood is Jason Todd being the first two villains and each movie respectively would be fantastic would show the audience villains and scenarios that they have never seen on film before I would be a great contrast with what Matt Reeves is doing and what past Batman films have been doing.

I’m sorry but I have to disagree with a lot of this. Having the movies have a more comic book lineup is a great choice imo. As you said, it may be daunting to new viewers, but what got me over the hump in terms of comic book inaccessibility was the fact that there is so many entry points, so many different tones of books to choose, making choosing something you’re into a lot easier. You have stand alones (the Batman, joker) which is what I first picked up to avoid continuity, then you get into your favourite characters in a tone you like. Not into the Batman’s dark and gloomy take? Here’s the brave and the bold to get you excited! I agree, chooses Damien to start with is a weird choice. I like him as a character but the logical beginning is Dick, but grant Morrisons run is some of the best. I just hope they’ll one day do the snyder and capullo run. You’ll have blue beetle for teens, swamp thing for horror fans, Waller and the other suicide squad stand in, creature commandos, team for those who were into that, and who doesn’t love booster gold? (Here’s hoping he gets together with blue beetle). Something for everyone! I love that approach, and how it differs from the homogeneity of marvel movies. Btw so many of these are just the sort that Gunn does so well. Throwaways, flawed heroes and b teams. I have faith

I'm highly skeptical about Gunn's plan, I'm still bitter regarding how he handled Cavill's firing, and the less we talk about Ezra Miller, the better. The fact that Tom King is one of the authors Gunn is taking inspiration from doesn't give me high hopes. The authority is the one that is making me the most nervous because I'm afraid they might butcher my boy midnighter.
I really want this to work, but let's be honest, Gunn, DC and Warner have all the stacks against them
