Now imagine if one of those missiles had gone off and you ejected, thinking you were damaged, but the plane was actually fine. That has happened to me once before.

You’re totally right. I completely refrain from saying “nice shot” to my teammates when I’m playing FPS games, too. It would be totally inappropriate considering that it’s not for real and I’d feel a real sense of shame for even for a second believing that I could be so entitled as to appropriate jargon like that.
