With one of the recent Hornet updates, we added new and more realistic tones for the AIM-9X Sidewinder. This video is provided to help better understand them.
Thing is, as a military pilot, I cannot overemphasize the usefullness of these sounds. You see, when you are pulling Gs, your vision will be impaired before your hearing... so using these sounds to your advantage is very important.

That's literally the point, as when you're pulling heavy gees you'll lose eyesight as part of a process called G-induced Loss of Consciousness (G-LOC).
Thanks for this. It’s been partially helpful but I’m not quite sure what the tones you are describing are in some cases. Are the sounds the Aim9 only or is there RWR sounds in there as well? I’m also not clear on what is meant by waterfall sound, high pitched (they are all fairly high at that point) and scratchy - I assume this is the white/pink noise tone. Anyway, I’m sure I’m just stupid.
The AIM-9X is a low-mid-high rising waterfall, the RWR 'emission dropped/new' is a high-mid-low falling waterfall. 0:31 First one is high-off-boresight waterfall, second is RWR tone. Sounds annyingly similiar, though.
Do you think we can have a confirmation window pop up when you select a mission in instant action? I've accidentally hit stuff like VFR Landing when I wanted Case I landing and it's pretty frustrating especially when it's the first time you load it and it takes like five minutes
Next stap in DCS...? Force feedback..I saw C.W. Lemoine talking about it..The flightsims working wel..but he didn't had contact/feeling with his F18...
I feel that this will not be a high priority issue for ED, as there is currently a hen/egg problem with force feedback, meaning that currently not a lot of games support force feedback (other than a few racing sims), therefore not a lot or, currently, any joysticks/HOTAS are produced with force feedback in them. This in turn leads to not really making it worthwhile to introduce/refine force feedback for those few that still have some of the older joysticks with force feedback.
single lock tone for the archer shows the russians too poor to add different tones, 9x different tone is not cosmetic its different tones represent different angles lock, if the missile is 90deg off-boresight it create a different tone than 60deg off-boresight, it helps the pilot to track the enemey target more effeciently and can reposition for another shot if the missile miss..archer chad 🤣🤣
I wish I could hear tones in my head if a woman liked me or not in the pub and walking around and stuff. Maybe I would be sadly disappointed about the silence.
@GIVEMEAKISSLUV Umm... missiles are not magical weapons that surely hit whenever you press the BIG RED.... okay, well actually, small red button. Missiles can be fooled, evaded and jammed. That is why flares and chaff can work.

Audio cues are perceived faster than visual also.

The "bapbapbapbapbap" tone is the most aggressive search tone ever.
Might want to mention that the radar warning receiver is also audible in these clips, in case newcomers were trying to figure out what that sound is.

why is the aim-9's tone alot more earrape than in the vietnam planes for example.
Too bad the sound is pretty much coming from a sound board; the 9X uses an imager, no "natively" modulated tones, which is more interesting.

It's called JHMCS or Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System wich you can activate with "HMD" Knob on the right side of the main dash.
