    for those of you with stock tgv, my best recommendation is to take out the tgv. I have ETS front mount with the charge pipes in the way too. I had lots of issues getting the bolt out, but getting it back in, it was just impossible, the bolt bent and stripped. I spent hours trying to dremmel that metal bit that pokes out, I tried shoving the bolt in with wd40 and engine oil and everything that can possible lube it, it would not budge. I took the tgv out and just everything went so much smoother. Dont try to take shortcuts like I did haha, you will find that its a faster process to just take the tgv out and put it back in. (I had to buy new bolts because the t40 got rounded out and would not bite anymore BE GENTLE WITH THOSE T40 BOLTS!!!)

    Is it worth pulling the in-take fuel pump breaker and running the car out of gas? I've replaced an HPFP on a Mazdaspeed3 before and I'm pretty sure I remember that being the recommended procedure.

      If you plan to have a variable amount of ethanol content, yes - this just helps the fueling keep up with the o creased volume requirement of ethanol

      there's literally no point. the DI injectors are more than capable for e85.

      Don't need to, stock injectors can handle it

    • @NostrumHP
      @NostrumHP 4 роки тому +9

      We started the DI injector project in 2017 and had advanced prototypes at PRI in 2018. After a year of working on it in vehicle, including collaborating with COBB, we could not change the injector drive current controls. Unfortunately without the ability to tune the injector correctly there was no ability to release the injector to the open market. So we froze the project in February 2019. However....we recently reopened the project and are working with Motec to bring the injector to market for Motec Stand Alone ECU cars only (race cars, track only cars). We hope to have cars on race tracks this summer, depending on how COVID-19 plays out.

      Essentially your stock injectors can fuel a 500hp build but the FA20 just isn’t capable, better to stop now and get an sti or do a full engine and Trans swap

  • @jonbarber9895
    @jonbarber9895 4 роки тому

    So this can go on with a stock tune.. no tune needed??

    • @NostrumHP
      @NostrumHP 4 роки тому

      The pump will operate without issue without a tune. But if you are going to E85 then you are (most likely) doing it for power. So the tune is critical. We recommend one of our dealers or a tuner that has good experience with high pressure fuel systems.

  • @MichaelCoolGuy86
    @MichaelCoolGuy86 4 роки тому

    Can't you simply just do the BRZ intake manifold conversion and upgrade the low pressure fuel pump?

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  4 роки тому

      No, that does not yield the same results. The HPFP is the problem, not the LPFP.

    • @NostrumHP
      @NostrumHP 4 роки тому

      @@SubiSpeed At some point the HPFP will out flow the LPFP. So we always recommend a LPFP upgrade as well, to at least a Walbro 485, which satisfies the majority of builds.

      There were, and in some cases still are, a lot of misunderstandings about how a HPFP upgrade works. Many tuners believe that the HPFP allows them to command higher fuel pressures for the DI injector. This is incorrect. The HPFP is a mechanical positive displacement pump. Our pump flows more fuel on each piston stroke than the stock pump. This provides higher fuel flow capacity at the same target pressures as stock. There is a mechanical pressure relief valve on the pump that bypasses when the pressure is too high, limiting the pressure provided to the fuel rail. May tuners were trying to command pressures above the bypass pressure, and then complained that the pump couldn't do it. Additionally, when commanding pressures at or above that relief pressure, the mechanical bypass actually goes down in pressure (damaging the valve). So then the pump pressure capacity is damaged.
