Great video; made it super simple! I am a novice driveway mechanic and I took care of this no problem. Even did the fuel pump too! I was pretty high on gas fumes, but way better than paying a shop to rip me off.
A great install for all the guys and gals out there. Subie Speed rules. Stay safe brother 🙏.
one question, i have a 06 sti will this kit still work?
Hey SbubiSpeed, great video! Quick question for you, will the module mount on a car that has a crawford AOS installed on that intercooler bracket?
As long as it's not blocking the fuel lines you can mount the module elsewhere.
Can I install this and safely drive it
to my tuner shop about 30 minutes away after it’s done for the pro tune? Trying to save the 288$ install fee for this. Looks easy.
what happened to the head unit?
You guys rock!
What do you mean if "my" car doesn't want to start with fuse removed. Is this behavior different across model years?
This kit is a must for FA20DIT owners who have access to E85. It really transforms the car and instills confidence that you can actually beat the car next to you.
But what else needs changed out to run e85?
Can you run premium too though?
@@cyclonic7134 yeah of course, it'll sense what fuel you are running
@@koolman7733Fuel injectors, fuel pump, obviously a tune, these aren’t necessary but an upgraded inter cooler and AOS catch for long term engine health.
@@zooweemama911 No injectors needed for fa20dit
Excellent video. So, I installed the kit but I’m being tuned for e60, I also have TGV deletes and with the base map everything was working okay but now with the first revision when I flashed it I’m getting a P2016 code which states “TGV Position Sensor 1 (RH) Circuit Low” causing a CEL. I spoke about it with the tuner and he told me to disconnect the sensor since I’m getting e60 anyways. I disconnected the sensor and now I’m getting also P2021 which is the same as P2016 but “Sensor 2 (LH)” Is it possible that it’s the actual sensor and module giving issues or is it actually a problem with the tune itself since with the base map there were no CELs. Hopefully someone has answers, the tuner gets back to me literally weekly.
Great install video. However I do have a question. When I did my install I ensured all the sensors were firmly connected. The check engine light was thrown saying the vgt was stuck closed. Major power loss. I double checked the connectors. I disconnected the tgv sensor and reset the ecu and it went back to normal after I reset the ecu. Do I have a bad Cobb harness?
WRXTICKLE S yes I did (sorta... I installed my tgv deletes)
Soooo you already installed the fuel pressure sensor?
Are those kits universal
hey subispeed I just got this entire setup for my car today and can't wait to install it. but my question is I can't see on the install video where to plug in the tgv connector I have the deletes on my care if their is any way you can show me or tell me would be great thanks I always get my stuff from you guys!! you rock
There will only be one plug from the Cobb Flex Fuel Module harness that will fit into the connector that is left on the car since you have the TGV deletes. Plug the female connection from the harness into the male connection on the car.
Will I need to unplug anything or will it be a open ended where it's just goes in
Thank you so much
Is it possible to add 10% ethanol to the engine without the flex fuel sensor?
Yes subaru designed it to work on e10 which is at the majority of gas stations in America
Does this kit also work with the 2018 WRX? On subispeed.
Com it only says 2015-2017.
Its cobb so check out their website. Pretty sure it works on 2018 too
and shops are asking 350-500$ for this install LMAO
I know just got quote 472$ crazy
G3 I know right
When ever you mention flex fuel kit. The shop automatic it gonna need fuel injectors, fuel pump, flex fuel sensor and wiring.
550 quote from my local shop
@@Serpent-qj3nx the cobb kit comes with wiring
Your rail pressure may be thousands of PSI, however you're putting the sensor in the low pressure side - which probably doesn't exceed 7-8bar... ~105-120psi.
Still don't want 100psi of fuel coming at my face when I disconnect that line lol
After I install the flex fuel sensor can I run a regular ots stage 2 tune for a couple days until I get the tune???
SouthFLRacing yes just dont put e85 . You could still run on pump gas. Did you change your fuel pump?
I have a yellow top but the terminals are backwards smh. How’d you make yours work
contact them and get a new one.
If car still runs with fuse pulled both before and after startup, restart with the gas cap removed. Was waiting forever for my car to die until read this from a forum
does the cobb accessport have a oil pressure reading?
No :/
Since I have tgv deletes as well. Does it matter which plug I use from the Cobb harness? I know you guys taped one. And also can i have everything plugged in except the main brown clip? Id like to have it installed when I go for my pro tune. That way I can just click one harness in.
Subaru Wrx theres a male & female connector only one will fit. As for the brown connector, you can just connect it. It won't actually do anything you get tuned for it.
SubiSpeed so can we just install it all and still run 93 like normal without problems before getting tuned?
Correct.
SubiSpeed great thanks for the quick reply
Anyone get the Cobb1 Cel wondering how to fix it?
Must I upgrade the fuel pump also?
No, but it's recommended that you do it at some point.
I don't use e85 but I bought my wrx with the kit on it. It worked great for couple months but now bout every other day my car says low voltage for ethanol sensor. Any ideas about fixing that?
You need a new sensor most likely
@@andreahighsides7756 I replaced the sensor and replaced the 02 sensor.
Think it's fixed now!!
I found a cobb flex fuel kit for 2008-2014 wrx, can i run it in 2020 wrx premium ???
No, that gen has the EJ20 and VA WRX's have the FA20
I dont have tgv deletes and i pluges them in. And i got a check engine light. What did i do wrong?
You have to mirror the tgv you’re using to the one you’re not.
P2007?
What is that power tool that you used to loosen & tighten bolts?
Lmao I wanted to know same thing!
Cordless Impact ratchet
Do you need a tune right after you install this kit? Or you can install it and run your normal fuel (mine is bp98octain) until i get a tune? Is it safe to install this and run without flex tune? I will be running my normal fuel for a while since i live far from e85.
I wanna know also
No tune needed on normal gas, because it won’t change the amount of fuel entering your car.
Would I need to upgrade my fuel pump? Injectors?
Yes
From what I heard as long as you stay under e30 it’ll be alright but anymore and the stock fuel pumps could fail and break so up to you what you want
If only there was e85 stations near me
Hi Subispeed. I also have TGV deletes. In the video, you taped it off because it won't be used. But, based on the comments below, you actually are plugging it in to the open connector their that was for the TGV, is that correct? I will be doing the install in a few hours.
what ended up happening?
@@ivanherrera2899 Shoot, it's been a while since I've done the install. I believe I taped them off as well because I remember thinking I should in case I ever need to put the TGVs back on, I should protect the connectors.
@@chancastillo7909 okay nice. Nice car btw I have the same one lol.
@@ivanherrera2899 Good luck with the install. It's fairly simple compared to other mods.
What do you have installed on your car atm?
How would this work on a stock 2018 wrx with a pro tune ? Or should there be other mods to compliment?
You need to have a specific tune for E85. Just installing this won’t damage anything (basically it’s just fuel lines and information the ECU is won’t pay attention to until told to), so it won’t affect your operation.
Adding this kit and a flex fuel tune to run e60 will be like a 80-100 whp gain. Dollar for dollar best power mod for the FA20! I am working with phattboi tuning for mine right now :)
Oh and you’ll need a higher pressure fuel pump.
@@SquatzMcAllisterthat’s only if you run full e85. Hpfp not necessary for e30-e60.
For this I don’t have to get the tune right away correct ? I can run pump gas until I get the actual E85 tune ?
Yes, this is basically just nicer fuel lines and extra information sent to the ECU it isn’t told to look at (yet). Once you get the tune, you can make use of the sensor and ethanol. Make sure you get the high pressure fuel pump too ;)
@@SquatzMcAllister thank you so much for response getting tuned at the moment can’t wait to add some E85 to the tank
@@dylanwirkus2119 nice! I just did an E60 tune with Phattboi on mine; +70 WHP compared to pump gas! That’s also conservative tuning :) good luck!
@@SquatzMcAllister thanks man ! I wanted to go with Phatbotti too but prices were so high rn and couldn’t wait any longer :/ went with mike Adkins !
Do you need a fuel pump with this upgrade
Yes aem 340 is what a lot of people have been using
Can I do the installation myself and then drive the car to the tuner? Same day
Carlos de la Torre yes
Thanks , great video!!!
If i remember correctly its just a sensor, you can run it all day on regular pump gas without a tune. Just dont run any e85 until you get a protune.
would this be ok with the cvt stock with catback or stage 1? thanks
The CVT transmission cannot handle the extra power. This would be for manual only cars. Sorry.
SubiSpeed ok thanks for the info
highspeedtubing chill out lmao. They’re better for people who daily drive most likely and definitely better for deep city traffic. Everyone has different uses and needs
@@louves118 your better off selling that cvt if your trying to mod it
So I assume the sensor is pulling power from the O2 sensor cirtcuit. How does the signal from the sensor get to the ECU using existing harness?
Through the tgv connector pin it sends voltage (0 for error, 0.5-4.5v for 0-100% ethanol respectively). I can build you one for 1/3 of the price and it will look the same. I have it running on my 2018 wrx with phatbotti duel tune. And flex sensors can be had for 20$+.
where you got hks struck bar ?
hah I saw that too
would you guys recommend an e85 kit over a stage 1+ in terms of reliability?
I'm running on pure e85. And I'll tell you, after 8k miles of straight e85 and a few 91 tanks in between. My fuel pump is starting to fail due to high ethanol content. I would love to have flex because ethanol provides both power and knock resistance. I would love to run anything around e30-50 because that would allow for a little power boost with alot more knock protection than 91. Plus finding good e85 is hard around here. So sometimes I drive 20 miles for gas. I wish I could just mix and match my gas....
You are not using the stock fuel pump right?
Jacob Tran I think a good solid ratio is 2 gallons of 91 with 1 gallon of e85 makes a good mixture for WRX... not too much e85 and easy ratio to remember... But i cant remember who said it or what E?? it gives you... But just a tip to look up
Your having issues because you didn't upgrade the fuel pump. E85 you increase the injector size more flow equals stress on fuel pump. Upgrade the stock one it's not that expensive to do and it will serve you reliably and later if you upgrade to bigger fuel injectors when running boost it will be able to deliver the fuel volume at the correct rate
Now we wait for better HPFP internals. Otherwise, 2015+ WRX owners will never really be able to go full corn.
Do i need a tune for this? Not putting E85 in it yet but want to get a head start
I know it's late, but for people who come across this in the future: No, it is plug and play and will just read the ~10% Ethanol of pump gas. Doesn't need a tune out of the box, just enables you to be tuned for higher ethanol content reliably and with a flex map.
Can I run this with stock injectors? Because I’ve tried to find upgraded injectors for the fa20 but I can’t find any so I’m assuming u can run e85 with stock injectors?
Yes no need to upgrade direct injectors on any direct injection car. If you are looking to make 450-500+whp you will need to get the brz intake manifold conversion kit with port injectors and a fuel controller other than that all you need to run Flex fuel on a flex fuel tune is the sensor, and upgraded fuel pump, and the tune itself
Reupload?
The other install video was wrong. They originally said to not do anything with the tgv plugs if they are deleted but you have to plug in one of them.
We made a correction to the install process.
SubiSpeed i hope your correction included relocating the sensor to a closer location to avoid the motor torque snapping the fuel lines. Like mine did twice in a week till we found the cause.
We had plenty of slack in ours and haven't had any issues.
I’ve been getting a ‘ethanol sensor voltage low input’ CEL. I reset my ECU it goes away for a week or so and then boom pops back up. This has been goin on this past month or so and I’ve only been running 91oct for the winter. I guess my question is, if I’m wanting to disconnect/clean everything and then reconnect, does my fuel level need to be less than a quarter tank before I relive the fuel pressure?
subie. ja did you find the problem? And how you did it ? I have the same problem on my car.
nicolas mendoza contacted Cobb, did some data logs and sent them out. They sent me a new A3 module (I had the old A1) CEL hasn’t came back once.
subie. ja okay thanks bro .
nicolas mendoza no prob man.
So when and where is the TGV delete plug going into?
There will only be one plug from the Cobb Flex Fuel Module harness that will fit into the connector that is left on the car since you have the TGV deletes. Plug the female connection from the harness into the male connection on the car.
Why they used only wrx they don’t make nothing for STI model
they do.
my car is still running without the fuse
Haha, how long did it take? Mines doing the same.
@@johnmartinez1784 about 10 minutes, don't sweat it, it's normal
Zackers Sus thank you!!!
Wait am I limited to e85 for life after this? I guess I need to look into this more
No you can still use regular gas with the kit if your car is tuned for it. Once you tune for e85 then that's all you can use until you reflash a regular gas tune.
I cant believe this was so simple 😭
You guys never showed where the TGV one connects if you have TGV deletes ....
It doesn't, you need to tape it off.
why would anyone want to run e-85 I get that's it's cheaper but that's about it you get better power and fuel mileage out of the real deal. now I can still get non-ethonal premium where I live and have 98 no Led and 101 no Led available too. so that might have a little to do with my lack of understanding of the E-85 craze.
false, I picked up 70hp just from switching to pure e85.
200whp (in colorado on 91) to 270whp stock everything except with e85.
Jacob Tran you could do that with water Meth injection and a tune for a lot cheaper ? what's your fuel mileage? regardless of my doubts I must say that is impressive.
30hw, 18 city, and about 25 combined miles/gallon. I have dyno sheets :)
Jacob Tran question, I have a bone stock '16, I assume yours is too? Any issues? Did you get those kind of gains from pro tune? I want a sleeper, so stock everything except acces port and flex fuel. What if flex fuel isn't available, such as, if you are on a long trip and can't find it? Sorry for all the questions, but you sound like the perfect person to ask.
Lol 1000psi of fuel pressure🤣
Yes, high pressure fuel pumps can generate pressure up to 2500 psi to the rails.
Lol.. unlike that old Edelbrock carburetor that runs on 6 psi.
why is that funny?
Is this only for wrx or will it work for an sti
Cobb makes a kit for the sti. Cobb makes a stage 3 that comes with injectors, pump too iirc
