- In this video, I will show you how I disassemble and reassemble unsealed BMX Hubs. Almost all unsealed(Loose bearing) Bicycle hubs are very, very similar to this hub. This video will help you with axle replacement, Bearing cleaning/lubing, Hub adjustments, and more.
If you are working on a rear hub and need to get the freewheel off, check out my last video on

My mission is to keep more bicycle riders in the sport.
Whether you can't afford to take it to a shop,
you don't have a way to transport it to the shop,
you don't have time to take it in for repairs,
or you just want to learn to fix, repair, and upgrade your own bike,
I will help to keep your bike running smooth and you riding longer.
Thank you. Helped a lot. This is the only tidy bearing servicing video for an old BMX I've found on UA-cam so far. So cheers butt 👍
i tell u what dude i should not go ever again to a bike shop cuz they are very pretty expensive and lazy , my front wheel is making a crank noise and i believe something went into the hub and took in to them to see , and returned with the same noise, i will get one new axel and replace myself. never again go spend money on them. best video ever
Thanks. I hope my video helps.
GREAT tutorial video! Thank you
Great video, I wasn't even too far off really. You cleared up some things for me. With that being said I think my only questions are. What kind of grease do I need to use? And how many bearings go in each wheel
I like to use park tools polylube 1000 or automotive grease. It seems to last longer although lithium grease will give you faster roll because its thinner. As for bearing count, It depends on the wheel. I've taken apart many wheel with different size bearings and the number of bearings varies also. Basically, If i take a wheel apart that is missing bearing, I try to put in as many as i can fit in comfortably. Thanks for watching! I hope this helps.
Try bleach:) high way to heaven
I have watched a few of these bearing service videos, but they all lack one aspect, and that is how do you replace the bearing cup in the hub. These do suffer from corrosion and pitting, so how do you remove the old worn cups? Peter Smith Australia.
Great video. To the point.
Thank you! I’m glad I could help
Can you swap out unsealed bearings for sealed on hubs that came with unsealed bearings?
Fantastic.. best video I could find
helpful
great video very helpfull
Sweet thanks!!!
Do you have a size chart for the bearings I'm missing some and want to get new ones but I don't know the size
how often should you grease a loose bearing hub?
Depends on how much and where you ride. When i rode unsealed bearings, if i only rode in dry conditions, mostly street and park, i cleaned and greased them every couple months. If i rode through rain or mud, every couple days.
My blank front wheel needs new ones and I couldnt figure out to take it all out
What size ballbearings?
my bike always loosing bearing, what should i do?
My son has autism he is 15 now and refuse to pedal his bicycle smaller bicycle the rear wheel move the pedal bigger bicycle you can stop the pedals while the wheel spin.
Can I convert this so that the pedal turns only when the rear wheel turns ?
do it for mag wheel metal
what do I do if the bearings are missing out of the bike on both sides how can I know which bearings to buy the axcel looks short in its in a bmx 20’ bike
Iv got mine with a rubber hammer and it won't budge what do I do help please
is it safe to say that a 13mm cone wrench is a must-have to do this job?
Some cones take a 15mm and I've even run across one that was 17mm. Most Are 13mm and Yes, a cone wrench of the right size is a must have to do this. I did once grind a 13mm wrench thin when i was young and didn't have a cone wrench but i don't recommend it.
Sorry for the stupid question.....Is it possible to convert this style hub to sealed bearings? Thanks for the great videos, they're very helpful.
I don't think so. You have to get a new hub because if the way the bearing race connected to the hub are designed
Whenever i ride my bike standing up it snaps and stick to the brakes my homie said i have to tight the axle
so all i have to replace is the axle. On my tire. I have a bike that my cousin just had to turn to shit and I'm trying to fix it back up. one of the problems I'm having is the screw part on the tire where bolts and pegs attach to is very stripped and the nuts wont tighten all the way cause of it?
Yes. All you should have to do is replace the axle. Usually that is caused by over tightening the axle nut.
@@thebasementbikeshop2336 ok thanks. Where would be the best place to order bike parts?
Caged bearings fit?
Yeah. in some wheels.
@@thebasementbikeshop2336 Thankz Bro
I have a loose ball driver and my hub is wobbling any fix?
Try to find the sweet spot of not-too-loose and not-too-tight that allows the wheel to spin while not being too wobbly. Good luck.
@@anaphrodisiacxyu ye a little update j have a semi sealed i replaced the bearing with the stample from 10 to 13ball and have to thigten it like every 2 days and doesn't matter if it doesn't roll well when just thigtened because it comes loose anyways, il be getting a freecoaster wheel anyways so it doesn't matter to me.
my hub is ok but my driver is wobbly. How to fix it?
@@JSB-2Z-2K idk i have a cult match v2 now, maybe thigthen the driverside locknut
@@Sunss yeah the problem is i need to hold the other side with another wrench, and when trying to even untighten the driver's bolt it doesn't work, and I'm afraid of braking something if i force too much
Why didn't you mention the grease seals?
You took them out without mentioning them.
Bb size?
so its the same for the rear wheel
Yes. After you remove the freewheel.
@@thebasementbikeshop2336 im struggling to push the little cover back in to hold the bearings in
@@jamescarter67 did you try putting the cover in before the cone nut
My sealed bearing won't come out
how to fix a wobbly driver? I'm afraid to break something, the bolt won't come off.
Do you have a freewheel that threads on like this wheel in the video or a cassette driver?
@@thebasementbikeshop2336 uh no i have a bmx wheel lol.
2009 mongoose menace
Can u press a sealed bearing in that style of hub
I am going to say no...but, i was thinking about with a cnc you could cut the loose ball race out of the hub and mill it out for a sealed bearing. I do think the cost of the cnc work and bearings would be more than a new hub.
@@thebasementbikeshop2336 ya I gess your right on that one thanks for the info 👍👍👊 keep up the awesome videos love them an they're very helpful
Hi do you know what size bearings fit in these hubs , front and rear ? Thanks
