I'd even argue that Gor-Rok is a great campaign for new players, given he gets a ridiculously overpowered legendary hero slann from the start. It's so easy to just throw Gor-Rok solo into a fight and make the A.I stack multiple units on top of him making it textbook-level easy to spam aoe spells (i'd get like 1k+ kills on Kroak in turn 8-9 battles sometimes)
This. In fact most of the Lizard campaigns should be recommended in-game as beginner friendly, while The Empire should be taken off. CA aren't gonna do it though, which makes me believe they don't understand their own game.
@@mattandrews2594 it's not that they don't understand, it's that they just don't give a fuck. They are busy creating more DLCs so they can get more of your money. You already bought the base game, no need to waste time there improving it when it's of no monetary benefit to them.
@@connerair3520 It's not like they don't care, it's that there's a lot of technical debt. We still get reworks, we got immortal empires for free now... etc.
@@mattandrews2594 Beginner factions remain the same, cuz theyre human (-like, in case of Tyrion), have diverse armies closer to what historical TW players might have got used to. Thats all. You also dont want to set DLC factions as beginner-friendly, that would look pretty bad on CA. Also, with all the faction changes between WH1-3, difficulty changes, and whether you turn in endgame or not, you'll get vastly different results at who is easy and who isnt. They are just not willing to put in the work - of even listening to campaign players - to change a simple recommendation people care about as much as about Terms and Services. Putting Kislev as beginner-friendly was definitely a mistake though, even lorewise they are in a horrible place geographically, and thats well translated into the game. Gor-rok on the other hand was easy in WH2, but now he is surrounded by enemies. I fought tooth and nail for like 70 turns (granted, in SFO) to grind down Pestilens, and I still had Delves, Khorne, Tomb Kings and even Vcoast who literally resurrected at Awakening a turn after I finally wiped them out the first time. That was the hardest early game I ever had in any campaign. Id argue Tehenhauin is at a much better place to start off with to the south. Itza is in the middle of Lustria, surrounded by enemies.
Lord Kroak is simply ridiculous. I just started playing Warhammer 2 after playing Warhammer 1 for over 300 hours and despite doing everything to beat Gor-Rok's army with my high elves on normal difficulty, Lord Kroak still got over 300 kills - despite the AI being bad at using magic correctly.
That strategy was awesome!!! It was insanely easy. Playing on legendary and having a blast. This will be my first lizardmqn campaign. Thank you so much for all the awesome information in this series!!
Gor-rok's my favorite lord hands down, and Kroak's an absolute juggernaut. His campaign is so easy I actually allow Skrolk to get stronger before marching into his territory outnumbered like Alexander wolfing down Persia
Thanks for video. I had diffrent start (maybe they patched something) so i will give me advice to people with same problem. I did the same with nurgle which was very helpful, but Skrolk wasnt in Oyxl. I took Oxyl only using heroes and dino and then used Kroak to scout Subatuun, there will be new lord starting to recruit. Skrolk will be in Time Guardian full stack with extra army so u should make ambush in trees, he will go take back Oxyl and with one point in ambush u should have 86% of doing it good, then u kill him and easy cake.
I played this capaign recently and what suprised me is how fast the number of your enemies start to grow. It was like turn 10 when I have consolidated the two starting provinces (Itza and Oxyl) and I was already at war with Harkon, Bordeleaux, Wulfhart and Rakarth + like three minor factions ( clan spittel for example). Also funny thing is that i didn't manage to confederate oxyotl, nakai or tahanuin since all three of them died while refusing to join me. Itza also haw pretty easy conditions for short campaign victory (i did it by accident at around turn 40).
man, played a gor rok campaign last night, hes so damn fun, having an army of boosted sauros warriors and then gorok himself being basically unkillable with his items is so fricken fun, and then having some skinks to catch any fleeing enemies bc theyre so fast, i love the lizardmen. oh and not to mention the giant nuke flinging frog wizard that follows behind.
First of all many thanks for reviewing all these campaigns. I can confirm that in June 2023, your start suggestion still works to a huge degree. I did not find skrolk in turn 3 but I still took their main settlement away and caused a huge issue to their recruitment. However, I recommend NOT doing this to people looking for a challenge. I play VH/VH and after I crippled clan pestilens in turn 3, there was no more challenge left in this campaign. Just been straight sailing. Regardless, many thanks for all your hard work Legend!
I played a Lizardmen army way back when and my leader was always Gor-Rok with a cohort of Temple guard at the core. Now so many years later I get to see that minature I painted come to life and smash up Skaven by the hundreds. He might not be the best legendary lord, he might not be the most fun legendary lord, he might not be the most skill based legendary lord, but he is the legendary lord that I waited on ever since warhammer 1 got announced, and ever since warhammer 2 I fell in love with that big murder block all over again. I just wish Temple guard were a bit more stronger for a viable late game melee grind build.
I think this campaign is perfect for new players. New players tend to be more defensive and Gor Rok is all about defense. Additionally he also starts the game with an insanely powerful legendary hero. HE are easier to use, but Gor Rok just gives so many good defensive bonuses
Love the lizardmen. I ran gor-rok on the table top solely cause I love him as a character. He was my first campaign in total war. Though I think cha'xak should be in his role being he's the ultimate slann body guard. Gor'rok should still be in the area but he was all about repelling anyone dumb enough to go to lustria as well as stomping deamons
I think rotating between factions might be wisest. That way he gets the broadest coverage of the player base instead of catering to the players of one faction at a time :)
Gor-Rok is a lot of fun, an easy campaign where you can just sit back and crush your enemies with the insanely OP magic of Kroak. In my recent Gor-Rok campaign I had 8 doomstacks of Temple Guard, Carnosaurs, Stegadons, and other elite units stomping all over Ulthuan and the Empire just because I wanted to.
Looking forward to trying this! Was at a total loss on how to deal with Skrolk, as I kept getting to turn 15 or 20 and they would declare war and hit me with 4 full stacks. Hopefully this alleviates that 😊
yea lord Skrolk isn't sitting in Oyxl on turn 3 anymore both times I did this start on very hard hard he hasn't been in there. Maybe I'm unlucky but still just saying it's still pretty easy just he isn't sitting in there anymore.
