A crazy detail left out from Mary and Darnley’s marriage is that Darnley murdered the aforementioned David Rizzio right in front of Mary during a meal, suspecting that she was pregnant with David’s child. This murder directly led to his downfall and later death at Kirk o’field.
Yes. Yet another crazier detail is still left out from your add on. Lord Darnley was ACTUALLY the one sleeping with David Rizzio, not Mary. And, James, her son, looked just like his father, Lord Darnley. Just J U S T like him! So, he was wrong, and i believe he knew far better
I love you guys with your ridiculously brutal bonus facts! The past was nuts. Can you imagine this happening today? Our scandals are so lame, not that I’m complaining…
Along with all the illegitimate half-siblings, Mary actually had two legitimate older brothers who died as young children. If even one of them had lived, her life might have gone very differently.
Also, I believe she was innocent -a figurehead of rebellions that weren't of her making. Also also, her last request was to have her body sent back to France and interred beside that of her first husband, who was the only one of the three who had actually loved her. Elizabeth refused.
Me too but he sounds a little off from his usual self, just not...as excttic as he usually do. I'm genuinely curios if something is wrong with him, as in, something happened to him or ifhe's just having an 'off-day' or tired of this job. I even went so far as to thinking it was somewhat of an imposter or worse, trained AI ?!
Mary always struck me as being that one friend we all have who is reasonable and intelligent in most things but has self-destructively terrible taste in men.
"Story about Mary was well to tell She seemed to scheme for a dream to sell She spent a night locked in a cell..." I knew Mary well cause she Raising Hell
I have seen or read this story several times and it still baffles me. I just don't understand, for the life of me, why Elizabeth I kept Mary hanging around on English soil for years suspiciously plotting against her. And then finally saying, "OK, off with her head."
There is a great channel on the people places and events in Scottish history called Scotland History Tours. There is an extensive playlist of videos on Mary and her incredible life. It's run by a bloke named Bruce Fummey the funniest Afro-Celtic comedian and historian working today.
Mary was a pawn for power hungry men. She was setup for failure by her brothers and by Bothwell. Her marriage to Bothwell was likely forced and she had been raped. I have written a novel about Mary, Queen of Scots where she is interviewed by a time traveling historian. He ultimately falls in love with her and vows to save her from the axe... which he ultimately does. Mary was rescued and moved to a convent in France where she lived another 50 years. One day I hope to finish it and get it properly published.
WOW! Mary Queen of Scots is an ancestor of mine through the Stewart line. I have read 2 different books about her but there are several things you presented in this video that I have never heard about or read about before! Thank you for sharing your love of history with us! You're one of my favorite channels!
0:39 Hahaha! We watched There's Something About Mary (1998) all the time my sophmore year at Doane University when I lived on First Floor Frees. I was actually a pizza delivery boy less than two months after the film was released.
@@MariaMartinez-researcher I'm subscribed to the channel and it wasn't posted until today. The algorithm didn't force him to make this video within the few hours of me looking it up and the video being posted.
She's my direct ancestor a few times over on several different limbs. My husband's as well. Turns out, most of us are directly decended from all the royal and noble families of the world, no matter your race. Alot of Europeans died out during famine and sickness, so it makes since that those better off would have better health, thus surviving. 😊
1,200 watched this in 30 minutes and only 160 likes? How hard is it to push a like button guys? These are awesome videos with a awesome narrator. Come on you guys...
“Mary, Mary quite contrary how does your garden grow? With cockle shells and silver bells and pretty maids all in a row.” The garden refers to growing cemeteries, as she filled them with Protestants. Silver bells and cockle shells were instruments of torture and the maiden was a device used to behead people. This saying was applicable to either Mary Queen of Scott’s or Mary Tudor the Catholic Queen of England.
Hello, There!! I've been a faithful follower for some years now. I love your channel, and I think you should make a segment about Mary Jeanette Kelly, the last known victim of Jack The Ripper. Little is known about this woman, except that she was an immigrant, and that she was married at some point, and that she was extremely beautiful. I hope you take my request into account. May The Force be with You. Best, Marco.
I always wonder who is that lady with short black hair in the background of the transitions in all of these Weird History and Nutty History videos. Is she smiling or smirking? Is that a flower in her hair? Is she from the 1920's with that hair cut? Who is she???
It’s so difficult to tell what the true character of powerful women figures were, since sooooo much of recorded history was written from the male perspective. Mary Queen of Scots was probably very anti-English, as there were divisions in Wales and Scotland that made relations with England tenuous at best. Given that she was relaxed about having Protestant relatives at court, her resistance to the throne was likely purely anti-English sentiment. Of course, being crowned as a baby probably made her susceptible to the ethics and politics of her advisory from an early age. She likely wanted to carry out her father’s wishes politically, continuing a stronger relationship with France. France was literally always knocking down English sovereignty, any chance they could get, especially during and after King Henry the VIII. I suspect the rivalry between Mary of Scotland and Elizabeth I, was a continuation of deep-rooted rivalry between their daddy’s. Daddy isssues and power = plenty of baskets with heads in them 😊

Mary is one of my favourite figues throughout history.

Elizabeth repeatedly was worried about setting a precedent that it would be ok to execute queens/former queens, since she was also a queen

Fascinating history on Mary, the social dynamics of the past in that area are very different than today!
I always thought her death was accurately portrayed on that BBC radio show just before that penguin on my TV exploded.
Always a good time for a Monty Python reference.

3:28 This is as complicated as the first time I saw the Arrested Development intro.
8:00 I am considering getting a day planner, I am not sure which one though...
My favorite narrator
"Weird History All Star" was a solid throw away joke.
Lets do one comparing the show Reign vs the real facts about Mary's demise..
Another detail that was missed was the fact that Mary was more or less held captive by Bothwell & she married him under duress. She hated him.
Anyone know the music that starts at 2:50?
It seems so hard to be a royal with the name of "Mary" back then

There's SOMETHING about Mary...like Marie Antoinette she lost her head...literally
……they were wild back in days
I am going to watch the Weird History video:
x ---TIMELINE 1984---
i dont thin, she was backstabbing, she just tried to find her place in society , in the world and she could not ever be sure, where that was.
Didn't Bothwell force Mary into the marriage?
Just like Marie Antoinette she "lost her head 🗣️"
The true Queen Scotland
Mary was a tragic queen.
Mary was a pawn for power hungry men from the very beginning.
Funny how I made a video on these facts months ago lol. Very odd coincidence
Mary, unlike Elizabeth, just didn't have any discernment. Religion has no place in matters of State.

Owen Tudor ?? John of Gaunt.

Weren't all of her ladies in waiting named "Mary" as well?😂😂
No
There's no evidence that Mary Mary is about anything other than gardening.
So, British “Royalty” has always been weird… stranger than a soap opera even 😮 So King Charles is “normal”.
None of these jokes would have worked with the other narrator.
I hear you using the words "Lady" Fleming @3:42 but are we historically certain that's not a man, man?
Luck was not a lady to the throne.
🦝
Bloody Mary?
Excellent question, but no. Bloody Mary was Mary I of England and Ireland. She was the Queen immediately prior to Elizabeth I.
Wish I had a name to go with the voice
Is it just or if you are born to the European royal family and named Mary or any name similar like Marie or Maria you are doomed.

Apparently she's my 15th great grandaunt because my grandmother is a Stewart. We've traced our family back, it's crazyyyy.
And her son, the King James responsible for the King James Bible, had every motivation for doing a translation that suppressed certain truths.
